it is possible, someone would need to modify the phone.apk and Contacts.Apk to Skin it, as Far as getting the Miui dialler Functionality. not enturely sure.. MIUI is coming for SGS2 soon though, there is a thread on the development Pages
Edit : heres the link to the ROM in development. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130951

Maybe you could even extract the phone.apk from that rom and insert it into your current. Don't know if it is actually possible, but i gues in theory it is...

Doubt that would work, MIUI is based on AOSP firmware and not Samsungs android firmware. As a result doubt the Apks would work, not 100% sure though

Yeah, that's true, good point. I was thinking of the old Desire days where it was possible to use the MIUI dialer on other (AOSP) roms. I didn't consider differences in the frameworks...
Applications Go Contacts, Go Dialer and Go SMS are very, very similar (some might say too similar). I'm using them till we get MIUI on our beloved sgs2.

I'm not a huge fan of Sense in general, but the Sense camera app is imo much better than the stock one so I was wondering if it was possible to flash the EVO or Incredible camera on an AOSP and be able to use the camera app. I tried searching the forums for this one, but nothing turned up. Thanks guys!

Ha I knew as soon as I posted it someone was going to suggest Skyraider Athena. I'm using cyanogenmod 7 nightlies right now and love it, but just wish I could flash the sense camera over it - i guess I'm kinda of particular.

Try installing this with Astro/ES/Root Explorer.
Disclaimer: I am NOT a dev. I pulled this from a ROM zip I had on my computer. If something happens to your phone because of this, not my fault. That said, give it a shot
I know CM6 has tap to focus in the camera app. Not the sense camera, but a much better stock one. You could even tap to focus taking video. Maybe it will make it to CM7 sometime down the road.
It wont work

Yeah didn't work for me either. I found a zip file on another forum...going to try flashing that in about a half hour. I'll let you know if it works. If it does, I will post the file on here.
Alright sorry about that. Thought it was worth a shot lol

Nope, didn't work. It was designed to replace the camera on a sense rom with the EVO version, but figured I'd give it a try anyway.
Guess someone has to code it
good luck finding a solution. that was my main reason i couldn't stay with an aosp rom.. the sense cam is much better. hopefully someone could code it to work.

I'm going to say no because the evo sense camera is based on HTC frame work which is incompatible with ASOP framework. Then again, I could be wrong.

same reason for me...I know IncredibleDoes had an AOSP ROM with the Sense camera, I just wish there was a way to make an update.zip or a working .apk for every AOSP rom.
It's been done on the nexus one, on Enomther's TheOfficial NexusOne rom. There is an update.zip for adding the HTC cam, and restoring the stock cam. Do a diff on these update zips, and try to find the differences (most likely found in framework files), and apply them to the rom of your choosing.
This may require some smali/baksmali know-how, but it's achievable.
Original Thread
HTC Cam
Stock Cam
NOTE! DO NOT FLASH THESE ZIPS, THEY PROBABLY (read: MOST LIKELY) WILL NOT WORK. You have been warned.
If you want to flash it, do so with a nandroid backup of your current rom on hand.
PS This may have already been done for CM on the nexus, but I can't remember correctly where (or if) I actually saw it.
There are supposed to be nice replacement camera apps in the market, although I haven't tried any of them.
Typed on my Incredible phone!

I might give this a shot, def prefer the Sense camera. Can I verify the link though, both download htcmusic_2.14.1.zip and have the HtcMusic.apk in them
Fixed the links in my post.
The camera requires some hooks/drivers in the kernel, so a ziggy kernel may work, or you'd need to talk to enomther. I would attempt this myself, but school starts tomorrow, and I have no more free time.
Could someone please post the APK for Samsungs Clock/Alarm/Timer-package for ICS? Or for Gingerbread, it it works okay. I'm running clockworkx CM9 and the only thing I miss is the conveniently bundled clock-app from TW.
Help would be much appreciated!
So please find attached (from LPB).
Cheers
Toscha
Doesn't want to install I'm afraid (LP6). Thanks for trying to help though

thanks for the help
but didnt install on LP7, using Resurrection Remix ICS v. 1.1
have you guys tried copying the apk files to system/app ?
copying files to system/apk will not work on AOSP roms because it requires samsung specifc framework
Edit: for people still interested, kage00 has a made an apk that seems to work, and here's a list of bugs .

hello mate. I believe u can't use samsung stock dialer and contacts in AOKP/AOSP roms. it needs samsung touchwiz interface, so it won't work on AOKP/AOSP roms.
By the way stock dialer and MMS app have a lot of features more than Google app
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
still a noob
Sorry if this is a silly question, but is there a ROM that I can still use my stock phone and contacts app?
I suppose my #1 reason for a new ROM is battery life and faster speeds. In other words, if an AOKP ROM doesn't support these apps, what will? Is it simply a Touchwiz compatibility issue? Not a copyright issue with Samsung's own apps?

If u are using AOKP rom, then u will only get AOKP stuffs. u will not get samsung dialer and contact apps. that's the way it is, mate. u can't simply have what u want, but this is how AOKP roms are made. I believe there is Touchwiz compatibilty issue and no devs has been ported these into AOKP roms yet.. for battery life, u may want to check what apps is running on the background that may cause u battery drain. make sure when u exit any apps, press the back button until u see the main homescreen. do not simply press the home button because that will cause u apps not exiting properly. it will still run on the background thus, causing u battery drain. look here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 I use this on my device and has help me a lot.

You can use it, if you're using one and only Stock and Stock based ROMs.
If AOKP/AOSP doesn't supports means only Stock ROM can.
It's not only Touchwiz compatibility issue, it depends on several things such as framework, system UI & few lib,XML permission files etc.
There is copyright for Samsung apps. Including it with AOSP doesn't make an infringement I believe. More importantly Android is an Open Source

I tried to insert them as system apps, but on Sammy ROM, the phone functionality is gone when deletein the original SecPhone.apk. So I'm pretty sure that it does not work that easy.

What posts should I read? and why don't you help the OP then?
As for dialer replacement apps, they don't replace everything (most often only dialing pad and/or contacts list) and often are unstable.
I replaced secmms.apk with aosp. Works fine. Had to name it same and reboot. Did you try that with dialler?

1. He wanted a solution without a whole CM9 ROM, you told him he could install such a ROM. Questions? No...
2. I told him that the stock CM9/AOKP Dialer app does not work in Sammy ROMS.
Thats kinda help imho.
@OP
I tried ExDialer from market with ICS theme. Very nice. But the original Dialer app from ROM needs to be active in ROM. Without it=No phone connectivity.

Did not work when I tried. SMS/MMS yes, but Dialer unfortunately not
I have been with iPhone and jailbroken since the beginning, I switched to the Galaxy S3 recently because everyone I know now has it, but I'm feeling regretful now as I cannot even figure out how to install a simple theme ?? My friend rooted my device, but I don't know where to go or what to look for as far as installing a theme ? Everything is just so much more complicating ???

The easiest way to go about theming if you really want to is going to an AOSP rom with theme switcher, like CM10. But if you want to stay on the stock rom, then this thread has all the themes and mods you'll ever need

Well, since you're on the stock rom, looking for ones that say it's for the stock rom or similar is what you should get. For stock, it's usually a replacement framework file or systemui.apk.

You should read and look for more info first. But in the meantime, you can go to the play store and download a launcher, I recommend nova launcher, that will customize your device and make it look different than the stock mode. Try it
