Camera settings/mods - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I'm looking for tips in how to improve picture a quality with the dinc. My pictures look washed out and just generally not as good as I feel they should. I'm running stock 2.2, I've reduced the sharpness and that seems to have helped a little. What settings do you run? Also is there a way to add panorama ability? Thanks!

Even though this is a older topic and no one has replied, i would like to know also...
My d1 takes way better pictures then the dinc. I have played around with the settings and haven't had any luck.No matter what they all look washed/blurred out pictures.

use a rom with 720p

I am using miui rom.. not sure if its 720? what roms have it? The list on here donest say what the camera is.

check out the sense roms, aosp doesn't have it cause of the source code however if you want cm you have to go old school with cm6 for 720

So I am assuming that most of the popular ones will be updated to the 720p, like cm,miui etc?
Also what are some good suggestions for sense roms?

Yep, I would just give em a bit of time to play around with the source to make it work though. And I'm not too sure about the Sense ROM question. I haven't had Sense for more than a day since like January lol. I'd try out a 3.0 or 3.5 ROM from Joel, I always hear good things about them.

Steve if Cm gets upgraded to 720p and you can think of it. Could you chime in here and update me?
Thanks!

I might as well chime in on my now ancient thread.
The answer is - flash a new rom. I finally grew a pair and put Nils' business ginersense 3.0 on my phone (3.5 isn't ready as a daily driver imo). It's freaking awesome. I now have panorama, hdr, exposure settings and many other options. I'm not sure that the quality of the pic changed much, but overall I'm extremely pleased. This is a much better result than using cam360.

Advantages of Gingerbread over Froyo?

So I was wondering if anyone could lie out a few points of the differences or advantages between these 2 versions?
I've noticed a lot of GB ROM's are slower and a bit more "heavy" but that may just be due to them just coming out and still having a lot of work to be done with them to optimize them for speed and battery life.
As of now I'm perfectly happy with Froyo and see no reason to switch, but still would like to know what advantages Gingerbread brings to the table.
You need to try cm7.

With Gingerbread your screen has that awesome on/off animation.
I know gingerbread is supposed to have built-in VOIP calling with Google Voice. Does that work with CM7? If that did, I could totally reduce my calling plan!

hah agreed, I guess there isn't a whole lot significant about the gingerbread release, I may be sticking with Froyo for a while if that's the case.
Also I've actually tried out CM7 before (several weeks ago) when it was very first released.
The screen on/off was pretty cool for the first day or so, but it started to bug me after a while and I kinda wished there was a way to disable it.
The VOIP calling with google voice has been available on the incredible for a while now, or at least I thought it had been. I never used it because of what a pain it is to switch back off of google voice, not to mention you are required to have a 3G connection or else you're out of luck and your phone is useless.
There are a lot of optimizations made to the whole android framework form what I gathered reading the android dev blog. They were targetting UI responsiveness which is definitely an issue in android as compared to iOS. I know that all of that is definitely better from my brief play with CM7 but I think it still has a long way to go to be as good as I want it to be. I also kind of like the orange glow that appears when you scroll lists, its a subtle but nice improvement.

I'm not sure how GB roms could feel heavier/slower, especially with CM7. I'd agree with you if you were talking about sense because its a bit bloated.
I'd suggest try CM7 again, RC2 with Chad's latest 37.2 kernel. Give it time to sync up with Google then play around with it. I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Unless you are a super sense fan
P.S. you can turn off the screen animation in CM settings. In the display menu.

Alright I guess I'll be giving CM7 another go, cheers for the feedback.
Only reason why I haven't tried CM7 is no 720p recording, not complaining just stating. Maybe im being a stickler but I like to have all options on the roms I run.
I honestly have noticed any differences in speed or responsiveness. I have tried a few gingerbread roms not sure if its because they are in early stages or not, but so far it doesn't live up to the hype in my book.
If I am posting this, I'm probably pooping.
Is it just me or does CM7 have crazy good sound quality. And the bass is extremely good as well, used dsp manager to boost base and it sounds as close as I have heard to bose (but still not as good as the great bose)
There are some small things that have bothered me with Gingerbread... for example I miss the sense Camera.apk, and of course 720p. But I went back to things such as Sense and MIUI, and I couldn't last 24 hours on them. I was originally between Evervolv and OMGB... then I stuck with OMFGB. CM7 RC2.5 is what I'm running now, and may I say it's pretty amazing. But I am gonna have to try out the new OMGB 1.1.0 build tomorrow though
I guess it's just the overall feel of Gingerbread. Oh, and optimization and web browsing is quite a bit faster I have noticed.'

Are you saying the built in phone speaker sounds like BOSE? That I would believe
Anyway is the sound quality via BT and headphone jack actually better? This would be something that might interest me.
I found CM7 to work very well, even better than SkyRaider IMHO, however I LOVE what JuiceDefender does for my battery - and it's not compatible with Gingerbread. As soon as that is released, I will have a semi-tough descision to make.
Scott
Just switched to CM7 from warm Z and loving it (Pandora sounded like garbage). Very responsive to say the least, GB seems to be quite a treat.
BT tends to leave out a lot of bass, but you can help correct it by using DSP manager.
The kernel plays a bit part in this area as well, chad's incredikernel has some audio boosts (especially for the earpiece) that I like. I know the stock earpiece volume was formerly way too low in crowds or even moderately loud situations.

which rom?

I came from the fascinate which had some features I really liked. wondering how the miui rom is running? bugs? also I think my most missed feature was that it stopped charging when it hit 100%. do an of the roms have that feature? I really like the look of sense so I'd be perfectly happy with all the features of it plus the extra personalization included with a custom rom. thanks in advance!
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
I too came from the Fascinate. I tried MIUI on that, but I didn't give it much of a chance (it was pretty early, and like most ROMs for the Fascinate, there were things that didn't work).
I've tried all the major ROMs on the Incredible now (Stock, CM7, Virtuous and now MIUI), and I have to say, MIUI is really nice. No major bugs that I've come across and everything works - GPS, MMS, Camera, Camcorder, etc. Great battery life too. I've simulated the app drawer (which MIUI doesn't have) by placing all my extra apps into a folder, and then placing that folder in the center of the dock bar at the bottom - instant vertical scrolling app drawer. This way, I retain most of what I like about Android, and gain all the nice features and design of MIUI.
If you like Sense, then you'll want to stick to one of the Sense ROMs though. But of all the major ROMs, they're all running really well.
Newts roms are amazing. If you enjoy sense, then i'd recommend trying out his pyramid or sensation releases. Battery life is pretty great too...plus you have all the features of sense 3.0. but the best thing for you to do is just try different roms (sense, CM, miui, etc) and see which one you prefer. happy flashing!
I too came from Fascinate, and have tried every single one of the custom roms available for our Dinc2, at the end of the day I always rolled back to the original GB because that is the one and only rom that has zero problem. Every single one of the custom roms have issue, some more severe than the other, out of all of them the Virtuous Unity, Gingerbang, and RMK debloated version are the only three with the least problem. If I were you I would try them ALL, and see which one you can live with, personally I'm going to stick with the stock rom and wait a few more months till all the bugs worked out. Do not expect any of these custom roms to be rock solid like the Kangbang 2.0/2.1 or evil fascinating for fassy, it ain't happening just yet.

+ 1 I'm also surprised at how much I like miui too! Did the same trick for making an app drawer. Really like how easy and simple it is to switch themes. The built in ftp also rocks

Coming from fascinate also. I've been switching between MIUI/CM7 and they both are more stable than the fascinate was stock (let alone with ComRom/EF). This phone flies and really lets those ROM's work there magic. I haven't even tried a Sense ROM yet, so no comment on how buggy those are; but from reading through the posts, I don't see a reason to use them... Definitely would say that AOSP ROM's are pretty darn good daily's... IMHO.
thanks for the replies! I liked miui in the past. my only major issue was incall audio was terrible...how is it on this phone? also, from the fascinate, flashing miui /cm7 was different than other Roms. same in this case?

Ehh. The issues with GingerBang are kinda my fault. I had too low of an undervolt. And didn't include a way to limit the kernel to stock frequency at first boot. Which will be fixed in the next release. Hopefully. Lol

Not sure if anyone else has been having the low in-call volume issue, but I haven't. Calls are plenty loud and clear as day for me.
And no, there's no issues flashing back and forth between AOSP and stock roms because HTC didn't feel the need to screw with the file systems so much like Samsung did. So happy to be done with all that bs.
I've recently converted to Miui from Unity (which I really like) and have been really pleased so far.
My in call volume is fine with Miui. Can't really say that I have had any issues with this rom so far

I tried the Incredible Sensation RLS1 for a while. The Sense 3.0 was interesting but there were a couple glitches that I couldn't live with, so went back to RMK's Gingersense which works great. Might have to give MIUI a try after reading the above comments! ;-) Much more fun than my old Blackberry!
I am almost convinced to give MIUI another try from all you guys talking like this even though I was having connectivity and wired headset problems when I tried it.
I have been using Virtuous Unity's Sense3.0 ever since without a problem...
But, man oh man it is hard to stop flashing Even when I think I've found perfection.
I am using OMFGB 1.3 nighties. It performs pretty well. Very slimmed down AOSP Rom but still has some nice features. I like MIUI and may try it again, but I was having slow data speeds on it so I switched. I like Incredible Sensation also.
OMFGB has been the most stable rom I've tried. Plus they are including some awesome mods in God Mode.

Rom suggestions wanted

Ok, so here's the thing. I'm currently running rmk gingersense. It's been pretty good, but i'm fairly tired of sense, and lately have had lots of little issues with it like bluetooth shutting itself off, updates not downloading, etc. I'm a fan of CM7 but i can't run CM7/MIUI roms because of the volume issues.
Can anyone recommend a good rom where things like volume and other basic functions work well but offer something other than sense?

Dude, I ran MIUI just a few days ago and it was fine. I was using the Tiamat 1.1.3 kernel for sound issues, and that fixed them. And I've heard it works wonders on cm7 as well.

MIUI is awesome w/ Tiamat, so is CM7. One of the only other really great popular roms out there is Virtuous and I believe it's an AOSP as well. Personally I enjoy sense to death. The only issue is that it tends to drain more battery, so AOSP is the way to go.
On a side note tyler, have you tried the skyraider rom? It looks promising. Also, the pyramid rom looks pretty nifty too.
Maybe I'll check miui and CM7 out again, then. CM7 was way too quiet when I first tried it, and since I'm on call a lot, good volume is critical.

I've tried both of those, and virtuous (which is rmk's sense 3.0 ROM) and they don't stand up (in my himble opinion) to DINC2HD, which is pretty much a sneak preview (if you will) of what's to come in HTC's lineup. This is not to be confused with Newt's Bliss MySense 3.5; definitely not the same thing. Go check 'em out. Due to the fact that Newt left XDA, you have to go to his site to get the ROMs.

Yeah it is. I never had an issue with the I2HD audio. CM7 is supposed to have an improved camera. They supposedly removed the grey around the borders and made it more like the sense-camera. Also, they added in their own custom lock-ring lockscreen.

AOSP! Recently, dev supports been great and everything is so stable. Even compared to stock. I'm on aeroevan's cm7.2 kang, and it's been great.

The more recent builds of MIUI have been admittedly buggy (or just plain don't work), and I had been upgrading to each Friday build but then realized... what's the point? It ran fine months ago, nothing new has been added that makes any real usability difference, so why was I continually fixing something that wasn't broken - with something that was pre-broken? I flashed an old build that ran fine and I can see no reason to change. Maybe I'll update once (if) an Android 4.0 based MIUI is available. Maybe, but again, what issues would it be fixing?
So my opinion would be, if you like MIUI, find an older build that predated all the current problems (I think anything 11.25 or earlier were good) and enjoy. From time to time, I check out something new, but I keep coming back to the realization that MIUI has real usability improvements over the others, and that's in addition to looking a whole lot cleaner and more consistent.
which ROM?
Glad you asked! I've been enjoying custom ROMs since early Droid Incredible 1 days, and have treid and modified many of them.
For the DInc2, I've used MIUI, stock, and a couple others.
Have totally settled on a daily user with no defects: MIK Runny V. 1.01.
After downloading, I opened it with 7Zip, went to System/Apps, and removed
several things I never use and don't want loading up. Be careful here, though,
sometimes you break other things when removing stuff (!) but that's OK,
you can reload the ROM and start again if you mess up. Fun stuff really.
Well, the camera, phone, txts, Internet, and everything else works.
And it's FAST. Hope you get a chance to fiddle with MIK Runny..
If you're looking for a Sense, efficiently modified stock-type experience,
you'll be pleased.
I agree with the others saying mikrunny. I didn't believe it could be that good, so I tried it myself, and my jaw, literally dropped the first time I flicked through the home screens. It really is super smooth. Also, the battery life is amazing. A day of medium use, with everything synching regularly and nothing turned off, leaves me with about 20% when I plug it in at night.

I like mikrunny as much as anyone, but something about can just not stand how small the tabs are at the bottom of sense apps as opposed to incredible 2 HD. I just can't take it

[Q] Current Latest and Greatest Rom for Inc2

Hello everyone,
I'm new here and new to this scene, but familiar with hacking on other types of devices. My sis just upgraded her phone and gave me a Inc2. My first instinct was to hack it and so I ended up currently with a rooted S-off Inc2. My next issue is what Rom to use. I see so many out there and have had problems trying to install a couple. Since ther are so many, i know theres no clear cut "Latest and Greatest" but as i stand now, i have no clue where i should be looking. So I'm asking what u guys would consider latest and greatess. I'm really looking into going as high up in the OS as possible while also having the best stability with as much working as possible. Any Idea's?

What do you prefer? For ASOP, we have some very stable ICS CM9 ROM's and Stable CM10 Rom's. The CM10 ROMs don't have a working ffc camera or 720p camcorder, but everything else seems to work. For those who like sense, Nit's Sense 4 Viper Rom is quite nice. I typically change ROM's every two weeks, so i have tried quite a lot.
I vote for aeroevans CM10 or if you want ICS then Condemned Soul's Kangdemnation
Vivow using XDA Premium
Viperinc all da way
I'm so fresh you can suck my nits...

Well I'm not sure wether to go ASOP or Sense but from what i gather most ppl prefer ASOP, so I guess i would also. I generally would like to have everything working also.
Another thing thing would be that would i need to flash anything else besides the rom? Like kernels or anything?

Most of the op's have it spelled out exactly what to do , usually they include the kernel in the ROM
Btw : I think any of the still supported ROMs that you will find in the inc2 section are great I can't really quantify a ranking of them

Paranoid Android its a Phone/Tablet hybrid if you don't use the ffc or video that much it is my daily at the moment. "(11-4-2012)(JB)(CM10) Global 4.1.2 (4.2)" and "{10-25-2012}{Rom}{ICS} Official Global CM9" are pretty smooth running roms (I haven't had a chance to give build 3 of CM10 a try yet). "[ROM] [Port] Andromadus Mimicry 1.5 [CM9.1 Stable]" another very good ICS rom and very stable as well. Those are the ones I have been messing with the last couple of months. I think it is all in your tastes amigo. If you are a flashaholic like most of us I am sure you will try most of them.
ViperINC if you don't need BT audio. There are issues with the fact that the beats audio controls the BT audio and there is no output.
