[Q] Installation aborted clockworkmod v3.0.0.8 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have a rooted droid incredible that was running stock froyo. I was attempting to install gingerbread on clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.8 and it did install, but after it installed it wouldn't ever get past the first white screen. I think the rom that I installed was TMartinPPC_GingerInc_v1.0. I then went back and tried to reinstall the signed froyo rom that I had before, but everytime I try I get a message that says:
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery. Please switch to edify scripting (updater script and update-binary ) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted.
I've looked many places for a solution to this but most solutions involve actually being able to boot the device. Most posts I've seen say that it is an issue with clockworkmod 3.0.0.8 and that I need to revert to 2.X.X.X but I'm not sure if I can do that without being able to boot my device.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Revert to ClockworkMod 2.5.0.5

I've been having trouble with ROM installs and Nandroid backup / restores since I used ROM Manager to update recovery from ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5 to v2.5.1.2.
I would like to revert back to v2.5.0.5. I have the recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.5-inc.img and recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.5-inc.zip. If I run the .zip file from the 2.5.1.2 recovery, it temporarily shows "ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5" as the running recovery, but slips back to 2.5.1.2 upon reboot.
At this point my ROM / backups aren't booting. I can get to the adb shell while in v2.5.1.2 recovery. Is there a way to flash back to ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5 from adb shell?
Thanks,
Dan
I renamed recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.5-inc.zip to update.zip and put it on the root of my SD card. I rebooted into hboot and it ran the update.zip, then booted into ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5. Unfortunately when I rebooted into recovery again, it was back to v2.5.1.2.
Someone has to have done this before... At this point my phone is dead to me, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm anxious to hear them.
Place this PB31IMG.zip on the root of your sd card and install through HBOOT.
Being an older version, it may or may not work, but is worth a shot.
"No image or wrong image" when trying to boot that from HBOOT. It won't install it.

Make sure your sd card is formatted to FAT32 rather than FAT and that your computer didn't inadvertently rename the file to PB31IMG.zip.zip or pb31img.zip.
Thanks for the quick response. The file is named PB31IMG.zip (capitalized properly, no extra .zip extension). The SD card is FAT32. I was able to flash a update.zip this morning using the same setup. Would it be advisable to rename the PB31IMG.zip to update.zip just to get it to flash?
What is this PB31IMG.zip? Is it back to the stock RUU or is it the ClockworkMod 2.5.0.5 Recovery?
It's CWM, downloaded straight from Koush's site and inserted into a zip by me.
Another alternative, if you are able to do so, is to use Unrevoked to install the recovery image.
I thought of the same thing this morning. I'll have to try to get a ROM to boot to use Unrevoked, correct?
I tried running Unrevoked while my phone was in recovery, but the Unrevoked 3.2 tool didn't like that too much.
My problem is that after installing a new ROM or restoring a Nandroid backup, the white HTC Incredible splash screen appears indefinitely. It doesn't seem to hand off into the ROM properly. I have gotten a ROM to boot all the way to the desktop before but it bootloops shortly thereafter.
I guess my path forward at this point is to try to get a ROM to boot to the homescreen, then run Unrevoked. Can I run Unrevoked on an already rooted ROM?
unrEVOked tool reports that it should not be run on any device that is not in perfect working order or it risks permanent damage.
PLEASE!!! Anyone that knows how I can flash back to a prior version of recovery please help.
Maybe I'm doing something else wrong... The only ROM I can successfully flash is Incredibly Re-engineered. Unfortunately this ROM has a bootloop issue after some time (known issue, see the development thread and lots of people have the same problem). To install a different ROM, I'm downloading via ROM Manager (SkyRaider or Virtuous for instance), clearing data and cache in recovery (with system and data mounted), running ROM .zip selected from SD card. After the ROM successfully installs and I choose to reboot, my phone sits on the white HTC Incredible splash screen indefinitely. Is there something else I'm missing to flash from Incredibly Re-engineered to another ROM?
Beware of ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.2 on your Incredible!

Well, I've found some success. I couldn't figure out how to install an old version of CWM Recovery outright, but ROM Manager was able to successfully install the "alternate" recovery RA_GNM. I used this recovery to flash SkyRaider 3.5. Luckily, SkyRaider 3.5 comes with ROM Manager v2.5.0.7, which thinks ClockworkMod 2.5.0.5 is the most recent recovery. So I was then able to flash back to CWM 2.5.0.5 using ROM Manager before it realized that 2.5.1.2 was the most recent version.
To summarize, I think my phone is back to normal.
PLEASE tread lightly when upgrading your Incredible to 2.5.1.2!

CWM update - after boot come back to the old version

Hi,
I have CWM 2.5.0.1 on my desire after I rooted it with unrevoked in august.
I tried couple of times to update it to newer version and saw it working but after rebooting the desire and going into recovery with power button + vol. minus, I always see that it came back to the older version.
How to update it so it stays the updated version forever ?
Flash it properly and not through ROM Manager/a ZIP file
How to flash it properly ? Please explain.
Thanks
When you root with unrEVOked flashes a permanent version of a custom Recovery - either CWM or AmonRA (if you choose custom). If you then use ROM Manager (which is rubbish) it will load the latest one as a 'fake flash' which won't be there next time you load recovery.
You'll need to run unrEVOked again and flash the new CWM image if you want it
Thank you for explaining this to me.
Ok, Tried what you said with unrevoked and at the end unrevoked gives me an error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new ?
I have baadnewz insertcoin 1.8f dhd rom and already rooted from august.
checked and still on the boot the recovery is 2.5.0.1 of CWM.
I choose custom recovery and tried to flash 2.5.0.7 CWM.
Can't understand what wrong with it.
Why do you need the new version? If you've already got CWM then just stick with it
Because I have an old version that causes some problems when I flashed insertcoin dhd rom.
Also tried with adb in fastboot and got an error that said signature verifaction error.
I'm stuck with cwm 2.5.0.1 :-(
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Go get Android Flasher and then just use that to flash the recovery image.

[Q] help. cant get into clockwork recovery

i downloaded cwm 2.5.0.7 from the cyanogen mod website but when i apply update.zip in stock recovery it gives me an e-signature verification error. im not rooted so i cant use rom manager and im on the new 2.2.1 update. does anyone have a working update.zip so i can get into clockwork recovery?
Not an expert, but I believe you need to be rooted to run clockwork...
AND the new update hasn't been rooted yet.
I honestly had issues running that version of ClockWork Recovery myself. 1.8.1.7 runs just fine.

[Q] Need some help fixing this problem please....?

Hello,
I have posted previously about problems i have had after installing clockwork mod 3.0.0.5.....
1. My nandroid backups don't restore correctly....always corrupted.
2. All of the roms i have tried to flash hang at the S-off boot screen except Cyanogen 7.
3. And when i try to flash any kernel i get this message........
"amend scripting update script is no longer supported. Amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5. It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery. Please switch to edify scripting updater script and update binary to create working update zip packages. Installation aborted."
What can i do to sort this out, can i go back to version 2 of clockwork mod or fix this problem some how.
Appreciate any help.

You can go back to CWM 2.5.0.7 (for example, or another), or switch to Ra, by flashing the recovery image in fastboot mode. Search for the recovery image and code on xda and you should be good!
Alternatively you can look into the edify scripting your device is requesting - I have seen some threads about enabling that also on xda.
Good luck!
Thanks, i flashed back and everything is fine now.
Also you can try CWM 3.0.2.7

[Q] S-off but cant flash rom

I received a replacement Inc2. It came with 2.3.4 so i downgraded it and used Revolutionary to obtain s-off and install clockwork. Now when i reboot using power button and volume down, i get the white screen showing Fastboot, recovery, factory reset screen, etc. When i select recovery, i get the revolutionary CWM 4.0.1.4 screen. When I select install zip and select MIUI, this is what it says.
installing:
findings update package....
opening update package...
e: cant open /sdcard/miui.us.vivow...............(this rest of the filename)...(bad)
installation aborted
I have tried several ROMs and also tried to install a backup from my prior INC2 but none of it works
any help is appreciated
That usually means that the file is corrupt, but since you tried it on multiple ROMs, I think you need to update your recovery. Download ROM Manager from the Market, and Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery. Or, you can download the 4EXT Recovery Control app, and get an even better recovery.
Ok downloaded ROM manager and when I start it is gives me the message "you must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found as "/system/bin/su/system/xbin/su"
I ok thru that but when i attempt to update to 5.0.2.0 is gives me the message " an error has occurred while attempting to run privilege commands"
I had my old Incredible 2 rooted without any issues.
Thanks for your help.
Update. Got it figured out. For some reason the superuser zip did not install. After I did that again, it works. Able to flash my setup from my previous INC 2. Thats for you help.
