Hello,
I finally decided to post this thread and ask for your help. I've been an iPhone user since the original iPhone....but now I made the switch, I've got myself a DHD and I would really want to root it, and flash some roms onto it.
Here's my problem, I tried downgrading, but after DHD finished extracting the PD98IMG it said that the original ROM is older.
Here are all the details of my DHD:
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Baseband Version: 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.10-g0956377
[email protected] #1
Build Number 2.36.405.8 CL47853 realease-keys
Software Version: 2.36.405.8
Browser Version: WebKit/533.1
Please help me.
What should I do? Do I need to downgrade, can I?
You will need to downgrade your Baseband from 2.3.3 by using the following link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
All the other Info you need is in the below link...

I was lucky not needing to downgrade, but I am on my second Android Revolution Rom and very pleased
First of all, everything went fine. I am not rooted, I have my custom rom and full wipe on SD not extracted of course.
Installed the Rom Manager, flashed the clockwork recovery...but doesn't matter what I do it won't enter into recovery.
Even bought the droid bootstrap, tried it manually and still the same.....the triangle and ! shows every time.
Please help me...what should I do? what is it that I'm doing wrong?

The red triangle is stock recovery for whatever reason rom manager has failed to flash clockwork recovery, reboot into bootloader and manually flash the recovery from there as per usage here
Doh! would help if i read everything, you cannot flash recovery without S-OFF, therefore you need to root first and then flash H-boot then recovery and custom rom

You say your not Rooted..
I think you will have to be Rooted to use the ClockworkMod and Droid Bootstrap..
Link to Rooting here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537..
Make sure your Baseband is below 1.72 as in instruction..
Sorry, I meant I am now rooted

Having root on your DHD is not enough to flash custom recovery. You need to do S-Off before you can install Clockworkmod recovery from Rom Manager.
This is a very nice guide from Jkoljo about S-Off http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
However, this won't be enough if you want to Flash a Radio (aka Baseband) which I think you will want to consider once you start flashing custom roms. This process is called Eng-Off which is more risky than S-Off. You can find a link in the above mentioned guide for more reading if you like.
very helpful. im still new to this. i had many of the same problems

hello everyone,
this is my 1st post, and sorry if wrong section...
i have desire rooted.
bootloader : 0.83 S-ON (INCORRECT)
CORRECTION: bootloader : 0.80 S-ON
i've tried to flash a ginger-based custom rom.
and it was stuck on the HTC splash screen (no boot i guess)
tried every thing, from wipe, repartion, wipe all, reset data ....
so my question, is there a minimum version of bootloader required to install and run a ginger-based rom? as i had never applied an OTA update, once i rooted the device, i flash custom roms all the time, and never updated the hboot.
thanks in advanced.
Bootloader version does not matter. Are you using the a2sd versions?

1-ROM:
AuraxTremeGinger v8.6 Gingerbread Sense 2.3.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052761
2- 1 GB ex3 using Amon RA.
3- Amon RA to flash the rom to.
To be honest mate I tried most of the Gingerbread roms and only a few of them worked until I alphareved, I think the gingerbread roms defo require a different hboot, I could be wrong but until I changed to s-off nothing worked

Well, Before I was s-off, I have successfully flashed many times the Insertcoin sense rom by baadnewz and many other similiar roms. I used 1GB ext 3 partition+96MB swap partition and the rest was fat32.
You should try this configuration.
In addition, what version of Amon ra's recovery are you using, for me both 2.0.0 and 2.0.1 have worked perfectly.
Good luck

hi guys, I recently failed to flash Auraxtremeginger 8.6 and I finally figured out why. It seems that Gingerbread prefers HBoot 0.93 so I...
1) flashed my phone with the latest official RUU(2.29 with HBoot 0.93 and I needed a gold card flashing from Auraxtsense 8.4 with Hboot 0.80)
2) and then reroot it with unrevoked
3) and then reset to factory settings, wiped Dalvik
4) and then install from zip in the clockwork recovery... and success...
*Note: No S-Off done in the process.
S-On, Hboot 0.93, never had any problem flashing GB roms. All worked fine (around 3 i tryed)
hello everyone
i confirm, changing to Amon Ra 2.0.1 fixed the problem
now i have the Ginger rom flashed and running
CORRECTION: i have bootloader : 0.80 S-ON
Not 0.83

Hi, running wildfire (buzz), froyo 2.2.1 hboot x....0002.
I have tried following the big messy sticky guide in general forum. I think I have AlphaRev and CWM installed. The HBOOT shows 6.01.0002, S-OFF and I get CMW when I go to recovery. But when I try to test if I have root when I boot into htc sense the test app says no. No superuser or root. Am I missing something? Every single guide I have found here says alpharevx or revoked should give root..
The guide says to RUU from 2.2.1 to 2.1. Is this necessary when I want to install a custom rom?
Any and all help much appreciated.
Unrevoked will root the phone along with installing custom recovery by a nand exploit.
But alpharevx neither roots the phone nor installs custom recovery. It turns off the nand security to make rooting (+ installing custom recovery) easier. So if you made s-off with alpharevx, then you need to root and install custom recovery on your own (which are very easy)..
And you dont need to downgrade with an RUU. Just go with this link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15226717&postcount=68 .
Also check the complete wildfire index thread from dev section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318 .
Edit: oh.. didn't get you clearly. Looks like you have custom recovery installed. Anyway, you can check the above link for rooting. And to install custom roms, you just need cwm recovery installed. Downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.1 (using RUU) is not necessary in any case. And to root your stock rom just use superone click root method or gingerbreak.apk or you can also install Su binary (= rooting) from cwm recovery. And you dont need to root a custom Rom because custom roms will be already rooted. Another thing you need to remember is some roms need cwm version 2.x while others need cwm version 3.x or above. You need to shift between recoveries according to that need . On how to do that, check the index thread.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Flash Superuser Binary in Clockworkmod. There's absolutely no need to use any RUU / Unrevoked if you have got Clockworkmod Installed.
Download SU Binary here:
http://bit.ly/su2361ef
Flash, and check for root again. This will give you a rooted Stock ROM.
Alternatively, if you just want to change ROMs , you dont need to be "rooted". Just a Custom Recovery like Clockworkmod will do. So, if that's your ultimate goal, just flash the new ROM. Again, dont touch RUUs/Unrevoked.
Thank you, both for clearing that up. I must say the sticky post is way way over complicated and dead wrong on the process. Since it's a sticky it needs to get cleaned up by someone who knows about it.
It's not a sticky actually. (I assume you are referring to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035)
I posted my views there but everyone seems happy with that, so whatever suits the individual I guess.
I have posted an overview of the process here (This is a sticky thread, so I kinda hope you are not referring to this one ):

Hi, I have the same problem as micnolmad.
I'm running wildfire:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
I used AlphaRev to get S-OFF, and change from HBOOT 1.01.0002.
I thought it was meant to convert HBOOT to 1.01.0001, but for some reason it's now 6.01.1002. Not sure if this is important? At least the phone's now S-OFF, which should enable rooting?
However, booting into HTC sense, rom manager syays I do not have root!
I have clockwork 3.0.0.6 but when I use it to install cyanogen 7.0.3, the installation says successful, and then freezes on start up.
Any ideas?
Did you perform all the wipes in clockwork (Data, cache,Dalvik Cache) before flashing your new rom, these are important and cause problems if not done!!
Also read this thread, the posts above mention flashing su binary to get root.

My Dhd was the same as yours and didn't have any problems. Did you ask for some help on the irc channel or did you just not read the manual
Was about to try the ace-hack until i read this post. Total noob at this been looking for months to do this. If i run the hack can i just put say leedroid on a new sdcard and install through CWM. I just need to know if it all goes wrong can i get back to stock rom with the PD98IMG...
Never mind the phone i'll be brickin' myself....
Thanks in advance.
for stock devices, the HACK kit is probably the easiest and fastest one-step process to S-OFF, ROOT, install CWM for flashing custom ROM's , downgrading etc
i tried it yesterday and it worked flawless for me, just read the manual and follow it step by step..
Cheers, maybe give it a try later.

I had the exact same problem 2 nights ago!
What I did: Downloaded a stock 1.32 rom, named PD98IMG.zip and put it onto the root of my SDcard, then entered bootloader (holding volume down and the powerbutton) and then you just wait for it to scan the SDcard. Once it finds the PD98IMG it asks you if you want to install. Follow the screen intructions and you'll be fine.
After I got the stock rom up and running (1.32) I downloaded visionary from the android market place, and rootet id through that. There are good guides on how to do this on the web. Just search for "How to root Desire HD", and skip the downgrade step, cause if you installed the 1.32 edition, you just did
Good luck, hope this helps!

I get the error message..

I believe i can still flash sum custom roms (just formated the newest leedroid rom) but stock is being a ***** to install.
I want to go back to stock as I feel my gps was more accurate under stock
Any ideas?

You don't have to flash stock rom from recovery like custom roms or nandroid backups.
Run stock RUU.exe or flash the rom from bootloader if in PG58IMG format if you want to go back to complete stock rom.

The link I gave is for stock unbranded WWE (world wide english) RUU. No idea where you can find Vodafone AU, sorry.
Running the RUU.exe will unroot your device but s-off remains. Also it deletes all apps and data.
Conclusion: it will be as out of the box but S-Off.

2) What your bootloader says and what version is is (there is a **locked** on top?)
3) have you tried the hack kit or not?
4) do you have stock recovery or CWM/4EXT?
5) is your phone branded Vodafone or is just your carrier which is Vodafone?
6) what was your original RUU and what RUU did you find. RUU.exe should be run from a computer not flashed by recovery.

Hi, are u asking me? If so here u go.
1- S-OFF. Don't think I'm eng s-off.
2- boot loader reads as follows:
Ace PVT Ship S-off RL
Hboot 0.85.0024
Microphone 0438
Radio 26.10.04.03_m
eMMC-boot
3- advance ace hack kit is how I rooted my device...?
4- clockwork mod recovery touch 5.8
5- Vodafone branded phone originally, with all the crap
6-original ruu unknown? But the rom I can't install is titled:
Ace_Vodafone_AU_1.32.178.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M_BACKUP
Its a zip file which I've tried to install from recovery as a zip(error message 'install aborted')and also restore after extracting to cwm/backup (error message md5 mismatch)
I'm completely lost.
Install 4ext recovery, if I'm not mistaken it has an option to ignore md5 mismatches.
Edit - just checked and it does, its in the recovery settings

Edit - just checked and it does, its in the recovery settings

Alright, well I installed 4ext, disabled md5 check. All that happened when it restored (finished in only 3secs)was rebooted with a freshly wiped copy of the rom I've been using-cookies & cream ics.
It seems like the file is empty, though I've explored its content and all seems intact. Its about the 5th download of the rom too, so unlikely a bad dl. Someone installed it successfully by deleting nandroid. md5, then using the md5 sum recreate it as md5sum*img > nandroid.md5... Don't know how or what this means
I believe they are talking about this. In the app go to recovery >manage backups. Choose the file then click correct md5 sum

-Alright well I got the md5 sorted, and installed the rom. Now I have a blackscreen... It appears nothing has changed. the green htc letters slowly fade to white lines then to black, thats about it. Still got 4ext so I can restore, but this is a pain in the rectum.
I'm restoring it again and it reads its restoring: boot system data cache. In the process, .android_secure not found...Should be alright?
That should be fine. Not sure why its not working and others got it to work

--I dont know. Will try to download and install again, in the off chance I have "bad install."
Wondering if I could insall the WWE Ruu.exe and then temp root and somehow flash all the vodafone australia crap...I'm just swinging in the dark here.
I thought about that. You won't be able to fully be on your stock firmware but it might be close enough for warranty purposes.
So here is my thinking. Flash the 1.32.405 ruu. Next flash your stock radio that came with your carrier via a pd98. Then root with visionary and use jkoljos easy radio tool to flash back your cid and get back son. Finally unroot with visionary and remove any traces of root like super user. I think that's as close as well be able to get if the nandroid doesn't work

Then my charger died.
Alright so ill give it a go and post the outcome. Cheers dude. I think I have the vodafone splash screen downloaded so if so that's a plus

Have a look for a clockworkmod (cwm) download for this model (buzz). Look for version 5.0.2.0 or above as a pc49img.zip download. add it to your sdcard and then reboot to bootloader. Allow it to update. After it is successful take out your sdcard and then reboot into bootloader. Scroll down to recovery and hit power. You should now boot into cwm recovery and be able to flash cm9. Follow the instructions in the cm9 thread for flashing, and remember that controls in cwm and different from when in hboot.

not unless you want your stock rom backup to have root. cm9 is pre rooted and by wiping and removing your stock rom you will have removed any previous rom mods like root. therefore its an extra step thats not needed
to Clarify further most people need to root to flash a custom recovery, but with your current hboot ( which is hacked) you can flash a recovery without root. so you can flash a supersu zip after flashing your custom recovery but its not much use if your just gonna wipe the phone and flash cm9.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60710027 read this post, it has the cwm you need. Just follow the post and you will get cwm installed. Dont follow the numbered steps at the end though they are not relevant to you. Once you install cwm make a back up!
