Hi, running wildfire (buzz), froyo 2.2.1 hboot x....0002.
I have tried following the big messy sticky guide in general forum. I think I have AlphaRev and CWM installed. The HBOOT shows 6.01.0002, S-OFF and I get CMW when I go to recovery. But when I try to test if I have root when I boot into htc sense the test app says no. No superuser or root. Am I missing something? Every single guide I have found here says alpharevx or revoked should give root..
The guide says to RUU from 2.2.1 to 2.1. Is this necessary when I want to install a custom rom?
Any and all help much appreciated.
Unrevoked will root the phone along with installing custom recovery by a nand exploit.
But alpharevx neither roots the phone nor installs custom recovery. It turns off the nand security to make rooting (+ installing custom recovery) easier. So if you made s-off with alpharevx, then you need to root and install custom recovery on your own (which are very easy)..
And you dont need to downgrade with an RUU. Just go with this link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15226717&postcount=68 .
Also check the complete wildfire index thread from dev section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318 .
Edit: oh.. didn't get you clearly. Looks like you have custom recovery installed. Anyway, you can check the above link for rooting. And to install custom roms, you just need cwm recovery installed. Downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.1 (using RUU) is not necessary in any case. And to root your stock rom just use superone click root method or gingerbreak.apk or you can also install Su binary (= rooting) from cwm recovery. And you dont need to root a custom Rom because custom roms will be already rooted. Another thing you need to remember is some roms need cwm version 2.x while others need cwm version 3.x or above. You need to shift between recoveries according to that need . On how to do that, check the index thread.

Flash Superuser Binary in Clockworkmod. There's absolutely no need to use any RUU / Unrevoked if you have got Clockworkmod Installed.
Download SU Binary here:
http://bit.ly/su2361ef
Flash, and check for root again. This will give you a rooted Stock ROM.
Alternatively, if you just want to change ROMs , you dont need to be "rooted". Just a Custom Recovery like Clockworkmod will do. So, if that's your ultimate goal, just flash the new ROM. Again, dont touch RUUs/Unrevoked.
Thank you, both for clearing that up. I must say the sticky post is way way over complicated and dead wrong on the process. Since it's a sticky it needs to get cleaned up by someone who knows about it.
It's not a sticky actually. (I assume you are referring to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035)
I posted my views there but everyone seems happy with that, so whatever suits the individual I guess.
I have posted an overview of the process here (This is a sticky thread, so I kinda hope you are not referring to this one ):

Hi, I have the same problem as micnolmad.
I'm running wildfire:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
I used AlphaRev to get S-OFF, and change from HBOOT 1.01.0002.
I thought it was meant to convert HBOOT to 1.01.0001, but for some reason it's now 6.01.1002. Not sure if this is important? At least the phone's now S-OFF, which should enable rooting?
However, booting into HTC sense, rom manager syays I do not have root!
I have clockwork 3.0.0.6 but when I use it to install cyanogen 7.0.3, the installation says successful, and then freezes on start up.
Any ideas?
Did you perform all the wipes in clockwork (Data, cache,Dalvik Cache) before flashing your new rom, these are important and cause problems if not done!!
Also read this thread, the posts above mention flashing su binary to get root.

Hi, I wiped Data, cache, Dalvik Cache, and have superuser and CWM v4.0.14 installed. On flashing cyanogen mod 7 ROM it installs successfully, but freezes on bootup?
????????
I seem to be having a problem flashing the stock + rooted rom.
I get the error message..
e:cant open sdcard/dhd_wwe_3.12.405.1............zip (bad) installation aborted.
I have also tried a stock unrooted copy which didnt work either. I am pretty sure i use to be able to flash it(many months ago).
I believe i can still flash sum custom roms (just formated the newest leedroid rom) but stock is being a ***** to install.
I want to go back to stock as I feel my gps was more accurate under stock
Any ideas?
Im using a unbranded UK desire HD with AHK Clockwork Recovery v4.0.1.4. i did wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and even wipe Dalvik
Any questions just ask
You don't have to flash stock rom from recovery like custom roms or nandroid backups.
Run stock RUU.exe or flash the rom from bootloader if in PG58IMG format if you want to go back to complete stock rom.
You can download RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_R_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_233505_signed form HERE

see above. Run the RUU exe from pc while phone is plugged with usb cable.
I uploaded it for you. That is the latest stock GB RUU.
Hope it helps

Hey mate, maybe u can help me out a little. I need to flash back to stock, vodafone au branded for warrenty purposes. if I used above would I still be rooted and s-off, and can all the Vodafone bloat be flashed afterwards. just weighing if the above link is any easy option then flashing rom, then radio, reverse s off, root, etc etc etc.....etc.?
The link I gave is for stock unbranded WWE (world wide english) RUU. No idea where you can find Vodafone AU, sorry.
Running the RUU.exe will unroot your device but s-off remains. Also it deletes all apps and data.
Conclusion: it will be as out of the box but S-Off.

--I noticed your using advanced ace hack kit. Question- are you renaming the Rom file to "update.zip," and then selecting "install update from zip"???
If so, there s your problem.
Just select "install from zip" instead. Shouldn't matter if the file has been renamed.
Hopefully this is a quick fix for you. Let us know, because if you can get to bootloader and recovery, there is a fix.
Don't be shy to use the thanks button.

haha, you can probably tell im getting a little desperate.
Please answer these questions in order to summarize the situation:
1) are you S-ON or S-OFF?
2) What your bootloader says and what version is is (there is a **locked** on top?)
3) have you tried the hack kit or not?
4) do you have stock recovery or CWM/4EXT?
5) is your phone branded Vodafone or is just your carrier which is Vodafone?
6) what was your original RUU and what RUU did you find. RUU.exe should be run from a computer not flashed by recovery.

Hi, are u asking me? If so here u go.
1- S-OFF. Don't think I'm eng s-off.
2- boot loader reads as follows:
Ace PVT Ship S-off RL
Hboot 0.85.0024
Microphone 0438
Radio 26.10.04.03_m
eMMC-boot
3- advance ace hack kit is how I rooted my device...?
4- clockwork mod recovery touch 5.8
5- Vodafone branded phone originally, with all the crap
6-original ruu unknown? But the rom I can't install is titled:
Ace_Vodafone_AU_1.32.178.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M_BACKUP
Its a zip file which I've tried to install from recovery as a zip(error message 'install aborted')and also restore after extracting to cwm/backup (error message md5 mismatch)
I'm completely lost.
Install 4ext recovery, if I'm not mistaken it has an option to ignore md5 mismatches.
Edit - just checked and it does, its in the recovery settings

Alright, well I installed 4ext, disabled md5 check. All that happened when it restored (finished in only 3secs)was rebooted with a freshly wiped copy of the rom I've been using-cookies & cream ics.
It seems like the file is empty, though I've explored its content and all seems intact. Its about the 5th download of the rom too, so unlikely a bad dl. Someone installed it successfully by deleting nandroid. md5, then using the md5 sum recreate it as md5sum*img > nandroid.md5... Don't know how or what this means
I believe they are talking about this. In the app go to recovery >manage backups. Choose the file then click correct md5 sum

-Alright well I got the md5 sorted, and installed the rom. Now I have a blackscreen... It appears nothing has changed. the green htc letters slowly fade to white lines then to black, thats about it. Still got 4ext so I can restore, but this is a pain in the rectum.
I'm restoring it again and it reads its restoring: boot system data cache. In the process, .android_secure not found...Should be alright?
That should be fine. Not sure why its not working and others got it to work

Wondering if I could insall the WWE Ruu.exe and then temp root and somehow flash all the vodafone australia crap...I'm just swinging in the dark here.
I thought about that. You won't be able to fully be on your stock firmware but it might be close enough for warranty purposes.
So here is my thinking. Flash the 1.32.405 ruu. Next flash your stock radio that came with your carrier via a pd98. Then root with visionary and use jkoljos easy radio tool to flash back your cid and get back son. Finally unroot with visionary and remove any traces of root like super user. I think that's as close as well be able to get if the nandroid doesn't work

Hello guys, I bought an HTC Desire Bravo from ebay. It is already S-OFF but the rom is not rooted. I want to either root the current rom or even better install runnyRom. I tried unrevoked and I get a "CID is missing" error. From what I read it has to do with my phone being already s-off.
Right now it has Android 2.2 running. So what can I do to install runny rom? Thanks in advance.

U r already s-off... Hope u r sure about that... Coz that means u r already rooted...
To flash runny Rom u vll need a touch recovery.... I would recommend 4ext recovery.... Link in my signature...
Also partition ur sd card... 1gb should be enough... Do it by 4ext recovery...

s-off and rooted are actually slightly different. you can be s-off but not rooted as stated in the OP
s-off fully disables nand security, rooted means you have root privileges
@panagath
do you have a custom recovery installed? (power off your phone, then power and vol-down, wait a little then select recovery).
if not install a recovery, i would recommend 4ext as above. flash the recovery.img through fastboot (google how to install drivers)
to root your current rom (if you want to install something like titanium backup and transfer apps across to new rom), flash the superuser zip in recovery from revolutionary page.
to flash a different rom, boot into recovery, wipe everything and flash the rom.zip. check if you require a different hboot and/or an ext partition on your sd card (backup everything to PC first... partition with 4ext or gparted).

Hellloo xda...is there anyone who can gimme a proper step to step guide for unrooting my htc one v.
1. Download the HTC Asia India RUU from Football's collection in the development section
2. While that's downloading, relock your bootloader using the command
Code:
fastboot oem lock
3. Open the RUU. Find the temp folder it created and open ROM.zip from inside it with 7Zip. Extract the recover.img and flash it
Code:
fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. Run the RUU and your phone's status will be *** RELOCKED *** and unrooted.
So why do you want to unroot?
Whenever I install custom Rom my sd card and WiFi doesn't work...soo I installed custom Rom without having a nandroid.backup.that's y I was asking.neways thanks a lot for replying.this. is my second one v(replacement)
sent from my sexoo one v
My build number is1.56.720.2 and the ruu is 1.58.707.3.what should i do now??
how do i find the temp folder??..
What is the use of other images???in rom folder..does this stock ruu flashing fixes error?
So what exactly are you trying to do now? Before you said unroot the phone, then you said install custom ROM in a later post.
could you also please find a way to help me? my htc one v freeze forever after i turn it on, please help me
Assuming you're on stock rom, have you try factory reset in bootloader ?
Do you know your software version or cid no. ?
He sent a pm telling me that his phone is rooted and he flashed a zip file that supposedly increases the SD card speed, and apparently causes soft bricks too
I think the only thing to do is re-flash the RUU because I don't think he did a backup in CWM Recovery.
Roxas84, please confirm.
I see.. if he can send the file, sometimes do a revert.zip will help. The easiest is reflash the same rom.zip with wipe cache & system. It should correct the error.
Hey dudes,
I was going to start the same thread but since this is open I want to ask you one question:
If I root the phone, flash cwm, and then I want to return to stock (for warranty purposes) how can I 'uninstall' cwm? Because for unroot I know how to do it, but uninstall custom recovery I never done that even on my older phone - Htc hero.
I'm not new to recoveries, custom roms, flashing and all this kind of stuff, but this is a problem that I don't know how to handle it since I didn't needed to uninstall the custom recovery in the past.
TIA!
L.E: To Answer my own question:
D) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- no need to relock bootloader
- boot to bootloader and fastboot flash the stock recovery
- run the OTA update
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
Thanks @ckpv5 for these awesome guides
I just summarized this thread in the following tut but with much more detail:
[TUT] Re-flash stock ROM (RUU) after bricking a rooted device (for noobs)
Roxas84, follow this tut if ckpv5's suggestion above doesn't work.
1ceb0x, it will also show how to revert to stock recovery.

Which ruu should I use?

Last August I rooted my DHD using AAHK. No problems for a complete beginner. I have S-OFF and now want to REROOT!
Is there a guide to Rerooting that I can follow or can someone give me the basic steps as I don't want to mess things up, it was a while ago since I first rooted the DHD.
1more thing... my DHD was locked to 3-UK before root. Now, I can only use Virgin, Orange, GiffGaff, T-mobile, Tesco, but not 3. this bugs! Anyone got any ideas as to why this is?
Failing that... Rerooting Toot using AAHK (if poss.) would be great cos I have a laptop dedicated/configured for AAHK already.
any HELP will be appreciated - TANX!

You don't need AAHK if you're still S-Off. If I remember correctly, to root your current ROM, just push a su manager app (like Superuser.apk or SuperSU.apk) and a su binary. Alternatively, if you want to flash a custom ROM, fastboot flash a recovery img and flash a ROM from there.

You need to get the 4ext img and fastboot flash it, not just install from apk. More detailed instructions are in the thread linked in my signature. Look in the guide in post #7, bottom of page 9, "S-Off no recovery" section.
You need to search for the apk and su binary; I don't have copies. It will only root your current ROM with no customization. If you're going to fastboot flash 4ext you don't need to bother with this, since any ROM you flash from recovery will overwrite your current ROM with the apk and su binary.
OK - kewl!

For anyone else interested in S-OFF REROOT...
GuyInTheCorner gives instructions on how to do this... ROOTING WHEN YOU'RE ALREADY S-OFF (with no custom recovery)
So if you're already S-OFF (either HTC DEV or AAHK [Ace Hack Kit]) but you're not rooted, don't despair! Its a relatively easy fix, all you need is a little time. . Now you'll have to have a card reader for this part. Using a card reader, place a PD198IMG.zip on the root of your SD Card (this means directly onto the SD Card, NOT IN A FOLDER) that contains a custom recovery. What you want to do now is to boot into HBOOT (Volume up+Power). Once you've done that it will automatically try to detect a PD198IMG.zip (which is already on your SD Card). It will flash it and you'll have yourself a custom recovery. Now using the volume buttons to navigate up and down respectively navigate to the RECOVERY option and press the power button. Now you're in your custom recovery, open the mounts section and mount your SD Card to your PC. Now download a SuperUser.zip and flash it in recovery. Congrats! You've flashed a custom recovery and are now rooted! Enjoy
If I helped, hit that thanks button!

banana g.... point taken!
I didn't use HTCDEV to unlock the bootloader I used AAHK to achieve S-OFF! So, I should be OK with the procedure you and GuyInTheCorner refer to - yeah?
Achieving root is easy. The hard stuff is to get S-OFF...
If you have unlocked the bootloader or S-OFF'ed, then flash SU in CWM or 4ext and that's it.

if your phone is booting normally, use the 4ext updater. If not flash CWM first and then a custom rom. From the android UI use 4ext updater.

What happened? Did you try to fastboot flash a recovery.img? That should work as long as you're S-Off.
To install Superuser on a working ROM, find a Superuser.apk and a su binary. adb push the Superuser.apk to /system/app and the su binary to .../xbin, I think? There are guides around XDA.

I tried to fastboot flash 4ext by placing the 4ext/recovery zip renamed to PD198IMG.ZIP in the root path of the SDcard then vol-down&power but hboot does not pick it up.
I then tried the 4ext updater but there were errors; so I don't know what's happening - I've almost given up and thinking about updating from FROYO to GingerBread OTA as a last resort and be done with that.
I read that S-OFF should be easy to root but that's not what I'm finding.
there is not enough information about unroot by returning to stock then rerooting for me to feel confident about doing it correctly so I might just go GingerBread - period!

ok, first it is PD98IMG.zip and not PD198IMG and you have an apk that can be downloaded from here: http://www.4ext.net/get.php?apk
You just install it using a file manager and the run it. Download the lastest recovery, flash it from there and you are done.

I don't think his ROM is rooted right now. Is that still possible?

Yeah, that is one of the possiblities. However, he should be able to flash CWM in fastboot, SU and then flash 4ext as he is S-OFF.
