i just downloaded and flashed the Supernova DATA2SD rom and it works really well. its just slow, I ran quadrant, it got stuck at "I/O" and stuff like that, i have a 519mb EXT4 partition. Any idea why is my phone behaving like such?
Because data2sd is slow in general
To get data2sd working well, an ext4 partition with min 1 gb is required.
I been using this Rom for age's and its super fast, if you don't have a good SD card it will lag. You need class 4 and above a good manufactured one.
Has for data2SD being slow its far from it, if you have the right SD card. I'll say this Rom much faster that stock, only time it lags a bit is when installing

Lag is common when installing apps, it isn't related to sibere's scripts.
i have class 4, u said minimum 1gb? i just need 1gb and wont lag rite?

Try it, also use Gparted for partitioning your SD card
Do I nid to reinstall data2sd again? If I resize my ext4

I flashed this ROM and was using a 1.95gb ext4 partition with a class 4/6 Kingston 16gb SD...
Once I flashed the ROM my Desire was running extremely slow and many force closes.. basically I couldn't open anything..
I put up with that for an hour and rebooted before giving up and going back to CyanogenMod 7
As far as I know I installed correctly.. should I have waited longer for the system to settle?
I really want the data2sd feature
Any help would be greatly appreciated
[SOLVED]
Can run simple2ext app from Android Market to move all apps to ext4 while using CM7 ROM
Great solution.. CyanogenMod is a great ROM made even better with this app
Bump. I've finally managed to install the new SuperNova Extreme Classic Official Gingerbread ROM (v2.0.1.1), and overall I love it.
However, I have a lot of lag when it comes to adding/removing/moving widgets, opening and installing apps, etc. The lag is so bad that I get constant force closes because the apps are taking that long to open...
Does anybody know why this could be happening?
I have a 16gb Class 6 SD card, with two partitions; Fat32 and a 1.8gb Ext4.
I have 16 GB class 6 card as well and Data2SD and Data2EXT are slow like ****. I could make myself a cup of coffee until my phone gets usable (usable = homescreen starts).

I flashed some HD Roms (Pay's ROM, RCSMixHD, The Z Rom etc) one by one, and each one of them claimed A2SD+ or Data2ext. Also they had fastboot shown in the intro video.
1) In any of those 3 ROMs, I didn't get more than 110MB internal storage, which I had got in StarBurst ROM (not HD) = 1.25GB. Now only 110MB? Now where did my ext partition go? [still a noob at android modding! help!]
2) Is it something like it doesn't "show" it as internal memory, but works all right?
3) What do I need to do in order to get data2ext/A2SD+ working? I followed all instructions correctly, incl partitioning etc.
4) Also none of them gave me a fast boot (like it was shown in one of the videos under RCSMixHD ROM), will I ever get it?
Thanks in adv. Need help. Meanwhile m with 105MB internal memory (which would end in 2-3 days )
Your A2SD+ problem does not exist, the internal memory will show the same as always but it won't decreas as fast. Just try it with angry birds or some other big app. Also don't move them to the sd via manage applications, they need to be on the phone. If you want more info on how A2SD+ really works there are plenty of threads explaining that or this.
And fastboot is hibernation and it should be in the power off menu.

Hmm, about the first thing, I tried it, and yeah so it doesn't "show" it as internal memory, though works all right.
Help! Whenever I use Hibernate, my phone doesn't boot up next. Just stays on htc logo if I hibernate it! Do I need a reflash?
A2SD is stupid and I don't get it either. I just flashed another Hboot image to increase my data partition. Also, I don't want my SD card doing much working and using useless space.
@GoogleJelly
You made it already clear that you are a big fan of S-off and alternativ hboots, but for people who like the sense rom or people are not comfortable S-offing changing hboot is not a option. For them A2SD is a good solution and I can't see how you can be bothered by it.

This. Plus a2sd+ is far more convenient than s-off and offers far more space. What if memory card wears out after a while? Even if it was as fast process as it seems you think it is, it is not like they cost a fortune.
data2ext is better than a2sd+ is definitely better than changing your hboot image just to install more apps. Or brick your device in the process
Sorry mate, but that is just plain ridiculous.

i use the D2EXT version of RCSMix HD rom and it shows that i have 961mb of internel memory... don't know why the A2SD don't show that.
It's not good stressing out your SD Card. Especially when you have Data2SD since it puts more than just apps on your SD Card. Yeh SD cards don't cost that much but when you buying one more often that you need because your SD card has become messed up because of the constant usage it's getting, I am sure it isn't the best thing in the world. I also see more problems that people have with A2SD and Data2SD and I actually wonder if it is worth it at all.
Had my Desire for nearly a year and I cannot remember the number of ROM's I've tried! CyanogenMod 7 is still a favourite, as is Runnymede 4.0.1 however for pure speed and great battey life an AOSP GB ROM like Oxygen can't be beaten. I'm currently using MildWild 2.2.2 ICS themed Oxygen based ROM with one small addition - Data2SD.
Using a Stock HTC or Ginger Bread ROM usually leaves you with about 124mb of internal memory regardless of the size of SD card you have. Trust me; once you've installed about 20 normal Apps (Google Maps, a few games etc) you'll get the message 'Internal Memory Low'.
A great dev by the name of sibere came up with a great script for the desire - Dat2SD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852219
This moves the internal storage to the SD card allowing for up to 2GB of internal storage!!!
So on my Desire currently I have 140 Apps including ROM included Apps like Calendar, Calculator, Radio, etc and 3rd Party Apps like Fifa 12 & GTA III. Total Storage space is 1.97GB and Free space is 1.64GB! SD card Total Space is 12.98GB with available space 10.12GB. The SD card space is for things like music, pictures and USB storage and downloads.
Installation and setup is quite straight forward with most ROM's - AOSP and Sense based ROM's can both handle Data2SD. And as far as performance - hardly and lags or FC's on any ROM's I've tried.
Thanks to Sibere for all his work.
If it wasn't for this great data2sd are desire would be nothing. I used a couple data2sd methods and I find the one works best if you have cm7/r2 Hboot this keeps dalvik cache on really nand. In dew section we have another great dev working on another way and if it all works out we will be seeing some great sense 3.0 plus roms.

Data2sd is great and packed in Droidzone's great rom is idiotproof, but there are other methods. Check my sig. I have more apps than I definitely need and I don't plan on running out of space anytime soon.

lol You getting mixed up I mean has a hole. Data2sd/data2ext Am using xd2sdx by amarullz witch is the best I have used to date. Sibere is also great. I didn't mead just one persons data2sd was best.
First off: sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do I find out, which class my sdcard has?
Secondly: Do I need to repartition my sdcard for all of these scripts or are there some that just work with a folder of some sort?
Actually I don't need much more space, as long as I can work with a ROM that fits in data++ ... and I managed to get ICS working with that now
Thank you!

On SD card you will see a number 4,6,10 if they is no number its a class 2. For partition you will need to read the Rom thread and see what they require, most is a FAT32 with ext4.
They is a couple different types of data2sd if you click the desire index link in my sig and scroll down to section (how to get more storage) you'll see what's on offer.
Thank you.
I guess it's slow card then. I don't really want to repartition my sdcard, because then I have to move everything to my pc ... aso ... aso. and I try to keep my phone clean anyway. With switching back and forth between Oxygen and ICS/sandvold it's anyway useless having to reinstall many apps...
Hi
I set my desire up with the supernova rom but had to ditch it after a couple of days due to very frequent random freezes. (data2sd)
Now I've got Leedroid 3.0.8.2 and that's giving me random freezes though to a much lesser extent.(a2sd+)
The Rom before I used Oxygen with no A2SD and this gave me no crashes but I desperately need the space due to my works email taking up all my storage!
So basically I wonder what I should do next. Is there anything I could try to fix my current setup. Is it worth reflashing? What's the likely culprit for the pull battery freezes?
My SD Card is a class 4 sandisk 8gb.
Alternatively I need a ROM which has
Very Stable!
A2SD+
Sense (Any version) OR…
Equivalent to 'Lock phone after' in Screen Unlock dialog*
*My work requires a PIN but the above dialog stops the pin being required if I have used the phone within 5 minutes!
I'm not bothered about the latest sense or loads of bells and whistles.
Thanks for any help!
Check Runnymede AIO.
I'd repartition the sd card before I do anything else.
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.
I got a class 6 4gb ad and I tried several ROM all with the CM7 and 1gb part.
I experienced just 1 freeze with the insert coin.
My old sd just burned out on the cool3d
Now I'm on revolution, pretty much visual stunning but have bugs on fast boot
Is cm7 extending the memory as you want?

Sorry to jump in here, but I had issues along the lines of the OP, your post caught my eye.
I went from an 8GB card to a 16GB card and my Desire would freeze at least twice per day. It sometimes went a whole day, but when I woke up, it would have crashed, always required a battery out and in to fix.
Went back to my 8GB card yesterday and its been fine since!
Is partitioning required to solve this? Would love to go back to my 16GB card!
Cheers
Check your sd card, if not - ask sandvold he lost one this way. Can be a NAND bug.

Likely to be a problem with the SD card; as others have said, re-format is a good place to start. Personally I'm enjoying the MildWild ROM (3.2). Can't find a lock phone after xx option though, sorry. It's very quick and seems very stable.

Yeah people try this one first. Sd cards can go bonkers sometimes and a fresh repartition/format can do wonders.

just like everyone else has said...repartition your sd...now for the second question I recommend using AN-droid 2.1.0 for a new rom....its stock GB, fast, smooth and really responsive...hope it helps bud...

If you're looking for stable and fast ROM with a2sd method, I'll recommend you CyanogenMod 7.1 with int2sd script. It's really fast and works fine on most popular HBOOTS (stock, data++, CM7 r2).
Remember the order of flashing!
first: cyanogenmod 7.1
then: gapps
and after that: INT2SD
I have MildWild on my HTC Desire, its small enough to fit on the Internal Storage and give you approx 240mb for data/apps or it can be installed on EXT4 SD card partition.
Hi,
Which is the best rom to use with a 4gb class 4 sd card for the Desire, I have been running the reflex s rom which was fast and stable on my device, although I did have a class 6 sd, but my partners device it doesn't run well at all, it's slow and laggy.
Class 4 should be fast enough for A2SD+ which you can find in almost every ROM. You can even try ROMs with Data2sd I think, but it depends on the quality of you card if it's going to run smooth (or boot at all). Try to avoid dalvik2sd though.
So any ROM really... Except maybe sense 3.5, because you rely heavily on your sd card.

Thanks Ronok, I am currently giving one of the runny 3.5 roms a try, so far its running better than the old 2.1/3.0 hybrid rom, but I will try the sense 3.0 to see if that's faster.

for instance, i got class 4. i've found data2sd slow, but dalvik2sd works perfectly.
apologies for confusion, but i believe you're better off just trying some ROMs and experimenting.
I've tried multiboot with the turbokernel but the ROM (first slot ICS ROM, second slot GB ROM) I put on the second slot was slow as hell and it was also crashing and soft-rebooting continuously I know that the speed of the ROM in the second slot depends on the speed of the SDcard and I was wondering how much fast should be a SDcard to run the ROM without lags ?
I've tried with a 4 class 16GB SDcard but I also have a 10 class SDcard but it has got just 8 GB of storage anyway can the 10 class SDcard run the ROMs on the second slot smoothly ?
I hope you can tell me this cuz I don't really want to test this since I use my 8GB sdcard on another phone and it will take me too much time to backup, test and eventually restore everything...I know I'm lazy

Uhm, ok, I'm very curious to see how this will work so I'm definitely gonna try this. I'll report back my experience for who's interested to this :good:
Ok finished testing. Tried the following ROMs:
Slot1: ICS Stock ROM: Ultimate HD v6 by smokerman
Slot2: GB Stock ROM: BOS by Pizza_Dox
Lag on second slot is much reduced as expected (il still laggy on the Settings menu, don't understand why), no forced reboots. Tried GTA VC but the game wasn't enjoyable (1,4 GHz OC): it was laggy most of the time but on some places it was running without any lag.
So I think that the best thing to do is always putting the gaming ROM on the first slot and the daily use ROM on the second since it will run smoothly enough if you use a 10class microSD.
