A2SD+ and HD Roms - Desire General

I flashed some HD Roms (Pay's ROM, RCSMixHD, The Z Rom etc) one by one, and each one of them claimed A2SD+ or Data2ext. Also they had fastboot shown in the intro video.
1) In any of those 3 ROMs, I didn't get more than 110MB internal storage, which I had got in StarBurst ROM (not HD) = 1.25GB. Now only 110MB? Now where did my ext partition go? [still a noob at android modding! help!]
2) Is it something like it doesn't "show" it as internal memory, but works all right?
3) What do I need to do in order to get data2ext/A2SD+ working? I followed all instructions correctly, incl partitioning etc.
4) Also none of them gave me a fast boot (like it was shown in one of the videos under RCSMixHD ROM), will I ever get it?
Thanks in adv. Need help. Meanwhile m with 105MB internal memory (which would end in 2-3 days )

Your A2SD+ problem does not exist, the internal memory will show the same as always but it won't decreas as fast. Just try it with angry birds or some other big app. Also don't move them to the sd via manage applications, they need to be on the phone. If you want more info on how A2SD+ really works there are plenty of threads explaining that or this.
And fastboot is hibernation and it should be in the power off menu.

Hmm, about the first thing, I tried it, and yeah so it doesn't "show" it as internal memory, though works all right.
Help! Whenever I use Hibernate, my phone doesn't boot up next. Just stays on htc logo if I hibernate it! Do I need a reflash?

A2SD is stupid and I don't get it either. I just flashed another Hboot image to increase my data partition. Also, I don't want my SD card doing much working and using useless space.

@GoogleJelly
You made it already clear that you are a big fan of S-off and alternativ hboots, but for people who like the sense rom or people are not comfortable S-offing changing hboot is not a option. For them A2SD is a good solution and I can't see how you can be bothered by it.

This. Plus a2sd+ is far more convenient than s-off and offers far more space. What if memory card wears out after a while? Even if it was as fast process as it seems you think it is, it is not like they cost a fortune.
data2ext is better than a2sd+ is definitely better than changing your hboot image just to install more apps. Or brick your device in the process
Sorry mate, but that is just plain ridiculous.

i use the D2EXT version of RCSMix HD rom and it shows that i have 961mb of internel memory... don't know why the A2SD don't show that.

It's not good stressing out your SD Card. Especially when you have Data2SD since it puts more than just apps on your SD Card. Yeh SD cards don't cost that much but when you buying one more often that you need because your SD card has become messed up because of the constant usage it's getting, I am sure it isn't the best thing in the world. I also see more problems that people have with A2SD and Data2SD and I actually wonder if it is worth it at all.

need a desire vets advice

hello all. i just recenlt bricked my galaxy s telus fascinate and got a desire replacement. i managed to get the root working without a issue (was superscared because of previous brick). now im looking for a rom. a good rom. coming from touch wiz, sense is mint. i love it.
so i want something that like stock sense with sense widgets without all the bloat and hopefully a proper app2sd (the stock app2sd is only moving like 1/3 of the data to sd and 2/3 is stayin in internal storage) . i heard desire hd roms r good but i dont really see the upside cause i dont know much about the phone yet just the OS. im runnin froyo 2.2 with hboot 93.0001.
any info would b mint. thx in advance
ps. only 1 day in, and the desire is running laps around the fascinate in every aspect except afew hardware issues like
-no internal sd card
-psx4droid is alot slower but i do own a hacked psp so no biggy
-and the app2sd sucks considering i went from 2 gigs internal storage to 133 mbs
but interface rocks. awaiting some opinions
You may want to take a gander at this thread: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/231930-desire-index-everything-desire-here.html
It has links to all the usual suspects when it comes to the different ROMs available, and once you get familiar with the ones that are out there you can do more detailed searches to see which one you may like the most. After that just download and get to flashing. As long as you nandroid backup before flashing anything you can always go back.

what about kernels? i had a overclocked voodoo kernel on my sgs and it ran games and emulators amazingly. ff9 on ps4drioid was running like 95% speed. any speed kernels or voodoo kernels available? and allso i hear the best way to manage storage is data and app2sd +. how do i go about installing that? b4 or after i flash the rom?
1. The Desire has an Adreno GPU, not a PowerVR SGX - so the graphics performance will be MUCH more slower, than the GS'. Also I use this kernel, gives me the best performance.
2. Most custom ROMs have that feature preinstalled (so installs automatically, when flashing the ROM), just make sure you have partitioned your SD Card (fat32+ext 2/3/4).

how do i go about partitioning the sd card? lm fat with a fresshreformat from my pc. now im quite sure ext/4 is the safest and most stable partition to use and 2 being the worst. on sgs, voodoo did the ext/4 for me and didnt have to do the work. so im confused on this part since ive seen nothing with a voodoo tag on it since i joined. and voodoo had to be deactivated everytime u flashed new software. does that still apply here>?
Use Gparted or easus partition for that.
Create a FAT32 partition first and then an ext4 partition (both primary).
You have to look for a2sd+ here in the ROMs description to make it work (LeeDroid definiately works). Make sure you have partitioned the SD card then just flash the ROM (of course nandroid backup first & full wipe) and it will go, you have to do nothing. It is an auto-script.

[Q] Which ROM is Best For HTC Desire

Which ROM is best for HTC Desire, i have tried LeeDroid. But wanna Know about InsertCoin.
Tell me If Any Other Roms are there awesome like LeeDroid please
I dont think is there any BEST rom for Your phone. You need to test and compare some roms and choose which is more handy for You. I personally dont like AOSP roms. My best for now was RCMix V2 now iam using LeeDroiD R5 that is awesome. Just flash > test > reflash new I got some advice for You.
Make appz backup and other things You need. Then try all roms what You want to try. Next You can choose from all of these roms which is good for You. This is best sollution.
I agree, there is no real answer to your question as everyone has different opinions and tastes. Saiiint doesn't like aosp roms whereas I prefer them. Test a few out and see what you like.
PS. This is like the millionth thread asking the same question, next time use the search feature before creating a new thread.

Bad advice. It crashed like hell for me and a few of my friends and the Leedroid HD ROM was far superior in both reliabilty and battery life. That's not to say that the AcesMod ROM will work badly but similarly other ROM's will work better for others.
To the OP, try the ROM's and decide for yourself.

For someone with s-off this statement is full of fail. With 110 apps I have 120Mb internal and 250 on sd-ext free. That is plenty of space. There are not enough good apps on market to fill that
Bottom line - you s-offed for the sake of it while not even scratching the real benefits of s-off. And yes, Sense 1.9 can fit into oxygenr2
I'm using MIUI XJ Data2Ext and I can say I'm pretty happy with it, great UI and speed

Your post is absolutely full of fail, you arrogant prick.
I S-OFF'd because the modded ROM I'm using requested so. I have 1.5GB data supplied to data2ext and I've used 700mb of that. Let's not forget Angry Birds is 25mb each, Google Earth is 50mb, Skymap something similar, those 6-7 apps alone destroy the 147mb data a vanilla Desire has. The OP DOES NOT need to S-OFF in order to use Data2EXT.
Thanks for your pathetic lecture but you should keep it to yourself if you're going to arrogantly assume to be superior to others. I'm happy with the ROM in my sig.

With A2SD+ it's just a matter of time before you run out of internal storage. Either messages, e-mails, facebook data (thumbnails, etc) will eventually eat into your 147mb internal storage and then you either need to clear out some data and/or apps or live with it.
With Data2EXT when you set, say, 1GB to it, your internal storage is now read as "1GB" instead of 147mb. Meaning it's a lot longer before you run out of room (I never have).
The downside is it can get laggy when installing multiple apps at once and when you've installed a lot of apps that can impact performance a little (though I usually find clearing the dalvik cache helps).
For me, personally, I wouldn't be able to use any other rom that doesn't include data2EXT. Next phone I buy is going come under close storage scrutiny.

I wouldn't have said so, I think the mimimum most rom's suggest is 1GB. I know the wmjam ROM I'm using offloads a lot of the system apk's onto the data partition upon installation. I set it to 1.5GB (like this FAT32 + 1.5GBEXT +300mb EXT+ 100mb Linux Swap) and after installation around 600mb was already taken up.
So, I'd do 1GB mimimum. You don't need to set up like I have too. I was just already set like that so I went ahead (couldn't be arsed running gparted again)

[Q] Low on storage

Hello all,
I'm just a beginner who is starting to get his head around things after reading a lot on this forum.
I have rooted my HTC Desire a few days ago following the video tutorial on the development section of the forum on all its steps. I then flashed RevolutionN 3D 1.5 ROM which i think is great after trying a couple that weren't so fast and smooth.
Before flashing the Revolution ROM i formatted my 4GB SD card (which has 1GB ext4 partition), did a full factoy reset, cleared Dalvik cache. However i'm finding myself with as little as 40MB of internal storage available which i have filled up very quickly.
What am i doing wrong?
I thought i was going to have plenty more of space, that's why i rooted the phone in the first place.
Can someone would be so kind to help with this please?
Thanks in advance
To have the phone rooted so that we can flash a custom ROM.
To have more data space, we have to s-off the phone and then flash a new hboot such as CM7R2 or Data++ and so on.
Never try that ROM but I notice that there are two kinds, one is for data++ (for CM7R2, Data++ hboot) and a2sd+ for stock hboot like what you have now.
Do you flash the right a2sd+ ROM ?
I have just checked and i flashed the Data++ ROM....
thanks for pointing that out...i didn't realize it was so simple
im going to flash the new A2SD+ and let you know
Thanks
After flashing the a2sd+ i have more than 100MB of space
thanks for your help!!
Hopefully 100MB is enough for you.. For some people even 1 GB aint enough!
Hello I have also problem with the low space. Think that all desire users have... I have the stock rom, version 2.3 and unroot the rom. I had 140mb space. I installed lot of apps and moved all the apps to sd card. But even you move the app to sd card, the phone memory always used and now my phone memory is very low. What are the alternatives to get more space. Is it possible to move the apps to sd card for 100%

Only with DATA2SD. Otherwise your app data will remain on internal memory decreasing it over time.

Running out of internal memory? Fix with Data2SD

Had my Desire for nearly a year and I cannot remember the number of ROM's I've tried! CyanogenMod 7 is still a favourite, as is Runnymede 4.0.1 however for pure speed and great battey life an AOSP GB ROM like Oxygen can't be beaten. I'm currently using MildWild 2.2.2 ICS themed Oxygen based ROM with one small addition - Data2SD.
Using a Stock HTC or Ginger Bread ROM usually leaves you with about 124mb of internal memory regardless of the size of SD card you have. Trust me; once you've installed about 20 normal Apps (Google Maps, a few games etc) you'll get the message 'Internal Memory Low'.
A great dev by the name of sibere came up with a great script for the desire - Dat2SD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852219
This moves the internal storage to the SD card allowing for up to 2GB of internal storage!!!
So on my Desire currently I have 140 Apps including ROM included Apps like Calendar, Calculator, Radio, etc and 3rd Party Apps like Fifa 12 & GTA III. Total Storage space is 1.97GB and Free space is 1.64GB! SD card Total Space is 12.98GB with available space 10.12GB. The SD card space is for things like music, pictures and USB storage and downloads.
Installation and setup is quite straight forward with most ROM's - AOSP and Sense based ROM's can both handle Data2SD. And as far as performance - hardly and lags or FC's on any ROM's I've tried.
Thanks to Sibere for all his work.
If it wasn't for this great data2sd are desire would be nothing. I used a couple data2sd methods and I find the one works best if you have cm7/r2 Hboot this keeps dalvik cache on really nand. In dew section we have another great dev working on another way and if it all works out we will be seeing some great sense 3.0 plus roms.

First off: sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do I find out, which class my sdcard has?
Secondly: Do I need to repartition my sdcard for all of these scripts or are there some that just work with a folder of some sort?
Actually I don't need much more space, as long as I can work with a ROM that fits in data++ ... and I managed to get ICS working with that now

On SD card you will see a number 4,6,10 if they is no number its a class 2. For partition you will need to read the Rom thread and see what they require, most is a FAT32 with ext4.
They is a couple different types of data2sd if you click the desire index link in my sig and scroll down to section (how to get more storage) you'll see what's on offer.
Thank you.
I guess it's slow card then. I don't really want to repartition my sdcard, because then I have to move everything to my pc ... aso ... aso. and I try to keep my phone clean anyway. With switching back and forth between Oxygen and ICS/sandvold it's anyway useless having to reinstall many apps...

Random freezes - Checklist? Recommend a ROM?

Hi
I set my desire up with the supernova rom but had to ditch it after a couple of days due to very frequent random freezes. (data2sd)
Now I've got Leedroid 3.0.8.2 and that's giving me random freezes though to a much lesser extent.(a2sd+)
The Rom before I used Oxygen with no A2SD and this gave me no crashes but I desperately need the space due to my works email taking up all my storage!
So basically I wonder what I should do next. Is there anything I could try to fix my current setup. Is it worth reflashing? What's the likely culprit for the pull battery freezes?
My SD Card is a class 4 sandisk 8gb.
Alternatively I need a ROM which has
Very Stable!
A2SD+
Sense (Any version) OR…
Equivalent to 'Lock phone after' in Screen Unlock dialog*
*My work requires a PIN but the above dialog stops the pin being required if I have used the phone within 5 minutes!
I'm not bothered about the latest sense or loads of bells and whistles.
Thanks for any help!
Check Runnymede AIO.

Sorry to jump in here, but I had issues along the lines of the OP, your post caught my eye.
I went from an 8GB card to a 16GB card and my Desire would freeze at least twice per day. It sometimes went a whole day, but when I woke up, it would have crashed, always required a battery out and in to fix.
Went back to my 8GB card yesterday and its been fine since!
Is partitioning required to solve this? Would love to go back to my 16GB card!
Cheers
Check your sd card, if not - ask sandvold he lost one this way. Can be a NAND bug.

Likely to be a problem with the SD card; as others have said, re-format is a good place to start. Personally I'm enjoying the MildWild ROM (3.2). Can't find a lock phone after xx option though, sorry. It's very quick and seems very stable.

just like everyone else has said...repartition your sd...now for the second question I recommend using AN-droid 2.1.0 for a new rom....its stock GB, fast, smooth and really responsive...hope it helps bud...

If you're looking for stable and fast ROM with a2sd method, I'll recommend you CyanogenMod 7.1 with int2sd script. It's really fast and works fine on most popular HBOOTS (stock, data++, CM7 r2).
Remember the order of flashing!
first: cyanogenmod 7.1
then: gapps
and after that: INT2SD
I have MildWild on my HTC Desire, its small enough to fit on the Internal Storage and give you approx 240mb for data/apps or it can be installed on EXT4 SD card partition.
