[Q] cm kernel - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Installed CM 7.0.3.
Interested in flashing some non stock kernels.
I would like to find the stockkernal [Kernel] 2.6.37.4 [email protected] #27, so that I can easily reflash it.
Unable to find it.
Appreciate a link to a download site for this kernal.
Thanks

I'm not sure about the latest version, but you should check the OP of the nightlies thread in development. There's a link to the stock kernel, I'm just not sure if its the latest. Alternatively, you could just reflash the rom without wiping data.

Kernel Downgrading Question.

I'm using King's #11 kernel with Fresh's latest. My question is if I flash to Cyanogen 6.1 (when it's released) does the kernel follow to that ROM? I don't want to flash another ROM and run into problems.
Sent while sitting on the toilet.
most roms include there own kernel which will over write any existing kernel you have. CM 6.1 I am positive will have a kernel package with it.
It is safe to assume you wont have any issues
Also ... be sure to do a nand back up before flashing the new rom. That will preserve,, not only your rom, but your kernel as well ... just in case you want to return to it.

CM10 Download Question

I am currently on Calkulin's E4GT.2.ROM.V1.6.
I want to run CM10 alpha2.3: Android 4.1.1.
I noticed on the download instructions that it says 'Assuming you are on a kernel that has a safe recovery.".
I just have a simple question, can I download and flash CM10 on top of my current Calkulin build, or should I download a 'safe' kernel and then flash CM10.
I'm trying to be very careful here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Calkulin stopped developing his ROM before kernel source was released and the emmc bug was patched up, so yes you need to use a safe kernel... el 26+CWM is the safest way to go to jellybean i believe.
As Pyrotoast said, using the EL26 would be the best route to go. If you are using the kernel that came with Calk's ROM, you are likely unsafe. Agat's kernel, which is compatible with Calk's ROM should also be a safe alternative.

Flashable kernel zips

I've been looking around and can't seem to find any. I wanted to try to use Hashcode's kernel with the SGT7 ROM but I don't see any way that would be possible.
You need a custom recovery first. I'd advise you to read the FAQ sticky listed in this forum, it should help get you started. And whenever you're ready to download that rom, the links to the zips are in the development thread associated with the ROM you'd want to flash.
I think they already have one. Fortunately the SGT7 rom uses hashcode's kernel. Unfortunately, you are talking about the 3.4.y, that is highly experimental and Hash only wants the more experienced people to mess with it, so as of now there is no flashable kernel for 3.4.y. If you are talking about the current 3.0 kernel then im also afraid you are out of luck on that too. There isnt one.

[Q] CM10.2 Kernel Choices?

Quick question if I wanted to install for example TripNDroid's kernel on a CM10.2 (4.3) ROM should I repack the kernel to get it to boot. I haven't tried a straight install yet, and the reason I ask this is the Kernel's don't explicitly state support for any AOSP version greater than 4.2.2. I've searched this but can't seem to find an answer.

Try both...if you have a backup you cannot really screw up. You can always restore and flash stock boot.img.
I would recommend a repack to accommodate possible/probable ramdisk changes between 4.2.2 and 4.3.
Lastly, the kernel DOES NOT officially support 4.3 so it may not work at all.
Thanks for the help to both of you I will try the repack if that fails I'll just restore the nandroid or attempt to reflash the CM10.3 boot.img

First, I recommend you flash Elemental X in recoveries instead of GOO.IM amanger, download it from the developer's xda thread here, and flash it in recoveries.
Which AOKP are you using? The Official one in this thread which is the same as the on AOKP's own website? or the Unofficial one posted here on XDA?
The Official AOKP is currently based on CM CAF Kernel, which means you should use CAF ROM with it, ElementalX is not going to work with CM CAF based ROMs so if you are on this version of AOKP I would stay away from ElementalX for now.
The Unofficial AOKP is based on stock AOSP Kernel and work fine with ElementalX, If this is version you are on I would recommend you get Elemental X 1.8 Beta as other users have said it provides really good battery life.
Thank for the help but I have a few questions
What is the difference between installing in recoveries and goo.I'm
And would I want to install aokp first, then elementals or vice versa.
Would I have to completely uninstall too in order to not use it for the installation
I think I initially tried installing it in recovery mode but it couldn't see the target file
