I know some devs are jumping ship to other phones. Do we have some devs left to work on our phone? If not I'm thinking about buying another phone in the next few months.

That's the impression I got from Twitter. Sad this is a cool phone I like it but looks like I'll look toward the g1 blaze in November.

I just got this like the other day and it seems to be lacking in support, when I heard about this phone I was excited to get it...But now it seems like it doesn't have that much development, with other phones coming out. The only this is the smaller screen and weaker cpu/gpu compared to newer phones...This thing comes w/ 512MB Ram/Rom if im not mistaken, just like N1. If this is Oc'able it might go to at least 7xxx. Dumfuq is notorious for his G1 OC kernels, lets see what he can do for the MTS now...

I really like the phone's design, it sticks out from the other phones I had. it might not be the best thing in the market but it's defiantly a major improvement from my G1. Even on stock this feels a lot faster than when I had it oc'd to 614MHz.

I agree totally. This is a wonderful improvement over the G1. Handles things better too. When I got a text when I was watching YouTube on the g1 I would have a blank screen for like 30secs cause I had SMS popup then I could reply but the video wouldn't play I would have to start over. Not with this little power house those issues are gone.

I'm afraid some peiole are getting different phones. Seems like the slide is hard to develop for. Cyanogen is having issues too. I wonder if HTC is having trouble with froyo.

Check the dev section. Im trying to pull together a dev team to port a modded froyo to phones that havent had a mention of froyo, and the dinc, desire, and evo. If there is one dev left, the slide is saved, if not, i gotta pick up official support for the slide.
More info on the rom can be found on www.incredibleroms.com/jdkoreclipse. Dont download from the link there, as it is the driod incredible version.
I will not let this phone go without devs.

Imma try. Im on xda alot, so i have lots of time to get this going. If worst comes to worst, i will maintain the port. So, you are getting a de sensed froyo woth some cool mods. Its not vanilla, and not sense. I really like the slide, and will dev for it. I already dropped official support for the evo, but may need to pick that one up too.
No phone should be without devs

Friggin delays on jdfroyo. We are still worrking on it.

I think we have a few here. I mean Wes and Eugene are here but may have gotten the vibrant and there are a few other new guys here and there. But they have said they will still work on the slide. I think whats holding alot of folks back is the lack of ota to use and port plus this baby is locked pretty tight still even after root but that won't stop anybody. I mean we don't even have a custom kernel or hard spl and it will take much longer because of the security. And, yes, cyanogen is working on his froyo port still and is having road blocks which is holding up future stable additions. It's a great phone still and am happy with slidemr1 v4 rom with a2sd and perflock off and set at a constant 600mhz. JIT would be nice like in froyo, would help a bit but stability and lack of 100% fuction in a2sd ports makes it hard to use froyo daily (and due to fact I'm an app horder). But yeah, the HTC blaze/emerald (the one with the qwerty kb) l will be tempted if things are still this slow by the time late autumn/early winter rolls around.
That's exactly what I am thinking. It is locked up pretty tight and hopefully our ota update to froyo will be a game changer for it and we can move forward.
Sent from my MR1 V4 Remix 3G using XDA App
I can say, that lack of leaks and ota is holding us devs back. If there was a leak froyo, i would be able to build jdfroyo with no problem. Hopefully i will be able to port something i will make for the gsm hero.

There is some update in this section being talked about but from what I can gather its stuff that has been fixed or only applys to espresso rom. In other words not froyo... but it did state and interesting addition that will be useful to all roms: the ability to use mms/sms over wifi.

Will camera fix from your desire port work here?
Sent from my adr6350 using XDA App
This is great. The only things I don't like about it could easily be worked out I assume. Still back on 3.0 but ill definitely be watching this one.
Would be my daily driver if the camera would work.

It's pretty good for 1st release but ill stick with 3.0. Not a huge fan of mysense.
LOL I also thought the same thing about HTC losing their minds when I saw the screen shots before I read your comment lol
How's the free ram lookin?
So Newt, are you going to do any other deving on this ROM, or is it just for others to play with? Tried it out briefly yesterday - different, VERY different I must say, but didn't have the time to really test and went back to my usual ROM. I'll keep an eye on it though.....
I like this one, despite the camera not working, it runs rather well

I agree that it's fresh due to being something different. but to b honest, those white nasty two buttons for phone and apps are just too small and the wrong color, it's very hard to see them with a white/grey background. I miss thee sense rosie. maybe I can theme it in.
I would really like to try this Newt, and appreciate you porting it. Are you going to attempt to fix the camera? Just curious, and no worries if you just tossed it out for people to play with. I always need camera access for my job, just in case a mess falls in my lap.
i might do one more update but i put it out for someone else to build.... i just dont like it sorry guys
If anyone wants to build it here is a little bug list.
Camera not working.

read the cm9 thread in the dev section, does everything you use on your phone work? it'll probably work as a daily then... if so are there posts from people saying its caused their phone to explode, molest their pets, go on strike, become sentient??? no? ok, then flash it, its cyanogenmod dude, it doesn't differ that much from device to device, that's kind of the point of it...
CM9 is good for daily use
I used CM9 for my daily use since alpha 3 launched. It will definitely work for your daily use. I never had any serious issues. It runs greats, my battery life with the proper settings was great. I know i used to have trouble with chrome but I think that's a thing of the past.I ended up using opera, so I never checked to see if chrome worked again or not. However, chrome is working fine on the AOKP milestone 6 Rom, so I would assume it works.
Only other thing I would say is like the other guys said, try a bunch of different Roms till you find what you like. All the devs have done a great job and as long as you have the skills to flash between different Roms I would highly recommend giving any Rom that you think looks interesting a spin for a day or so until you find your favorites.
So I installed CM9 fairly recently, and I noticed that now my magnetic poles are swapped, north for south. I've tried moving, figure-8, shaking, with some (but not enough) effect, but then it goes back to reversed poles. North-south is spot-on regarding accuracy; just reversed.
TIA for any help

Yeah; I suppose had this happened on the 22nd, or whenever that date is, perhaps I would have wondered huh?
So Droid version is 4.04; CM version is 20120907-EXPERIMENTAL-d710-Beta1
I didn't know it was a known issue; I tried searching the forums, but came up empty-handed. No doubt I missed the thread.
I guess it's been awhile since I installed CM9; I notice there's a good selection of Jellybean ROMS available now, including CM10. I'll perhaps give that a go this weekend. Thank the Droid Overlords for MobileODIN.
Any other advice would be welcome; thanks for letting me know it's not just me!

I'm on cm10.1 and it seems to always freeze and slow down which takes me more time to make calls or get to texts and send them. Get a lot of wait/close notifications and I want to know if there is just a simple epic 4g rom that will respond quickly and not freeze on me when I'm trying to get a girls number for example!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Never got such things in CM10.1 for all 3 devices I installed it on, but if your goal is that simple, reverting to CM7 (highly recommended, speediest of all ROMs I've experienced, because it's GINGERBREAD) or even stock FC09/FC19 is a good idea.

Why do people always ask these questions? Try roms out on your device and find the answers yourself! Each device responds differently.

Why would a try 10 roms just to see which one simply freezes the least when I could just ask?

Because every phone reacts different to every ROM. My epic hated cm7, but everybody here loved it. You have to try several different ones out for yourself and see which one you and your phone like best.

You may not be a new XDA user or new to flashing, but you have two replies here saying why answering this question is moot.
Either follow Andy's suggestion, or follow mine and frost's and flash roms until you find what works best for you & your device. Plain and simple, lol.
It probably looks like I'm being an asshole here, but we've had this asked so many times over the nearly 4 years this phone has been in production. It got old years ago, and the answer never changed.
Peace out guys, not everyone's a flashaholic I know, but yeah I had been one for about a year and tried so many ROMs so that's why I have a suggestion. If @dertdezzy just lacks time like I do now, then forgive him and let him fetch my answer and enjoy GB, but meanwhile @nikon120 's got a point in there, if there's time you should really use your brain and hand to sort these subjective things out.
Maybe it's time to shut this thread?

Come on, an epic 4g is an epic 4g they are not built differently one at a time..if the same rom works different for some people then its because they are doing something different..I'm sure there's a few roms that people in general agree on as one of the most stable, or the most lag free for example..just in general of course..its not that serious to where I have time to flash a new rom everyday, restore all my settings and set ups just to find the "perfect" rom for me

Actually no. There are differences based on tolerances on how the die is cut for the processors. Some could handle overclocking to 1.5Ghz and others could go no higher than 1.2Ghz. I have 2 no longer in service and at one time running identical software my computer would only recognize one...reinstalled drivers on computer and both were recognized again, Agreed that in most cases it is something different in software and matching up phone for phone in a purely clean flash should yield same results. Now throw in 3rd party apps and themeing and game over.
Yup you right u right, nuff said! But would cm7 and older roms tend to be more what I'm looking for with speed, less lagging and freezing?

They're pretty much stable and good to go. You will have more space for apps on a Gingerbread rom than a ICS/JellyBean rom. Also you should have less RAM used on Gingerbread than the other types as well.
Really you just have to decide either TouchWiz or CM based. If CM, then which OS type. After that point, it's pretty easy reduce the rom list.
