[Q] Problem installing D2EXT+roms? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have just formatted my SD card correctly to use the D2EXT+ roms that are available.....
I flashed the D2EXT+ hboot from CrystalKingdom v0.3.1 and installed the rom yesterday and everything seemed to work fine apart from the weather where i was getting forced closed, i also tried Alex Vs rom and it installed but i had constand forced closures.
I tried today with CrystalKingdom latest rom and once installed i get display issues....the lockscreen is just a white square and the HTC cloch is just white with no details, also my apps have very big writing that is messing up the screen.
I obviously must have missed something.
Could someone help me out please?
Edit: I i aso have USB brick now....CAn someone point me to the latest easiest way to sort this now please and how do i find my cid?
I am S-Off
Thanks.

I flashed this rom again a third time and it has loaded up with no problems....don't know why?
But i have a USB brick.....i am trying to use Android flasher to fix it but i can't get the cid.....i followed a guide to get the cid using astro file manager but thats too big to use with android flasher.
Can some one give me a step by step guide, the old tutorials seem to be very mixed up now.
I have flashed back to CyanogenMod-7 now so maybe i can fix this with the terminal emulator?
Appreciate any help.

I am going to say that the first booting time of every Date2EXT rom should be a little long.
If you see something was force closed at the first booting time, just click "wait", "wait" and "wait"!
I used to have the same problem with you ,and Alex told me this way and everything solved!
Er...
I don't have any ideas about how to fix your USB brick, I am very sorry for that. Do you mean you can't link your phone to the computer at the bootloader? or at the android OS? Can you push your files to your phone through the USB line?

Thanks for the reply I will try that.
About the USB problem, I cannot connect my phone to USB though android OS, USB debugging or USB options do not show when enabled.

To fix usb brick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639

Thank for the link

you are S-OFF, so to fix USB-Brick do:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot oem eraseconfig
of course ADB must be set up correctly @ PC
fixed

Thanks for the reply.
I have now fixed my USB brick.......Cheers
I have decided to go back to using A2SD+ roms as i was getting too many problems with D2EXT+, do i need to change the Hboot again for this and would appreciate it if someone could point me to it.
Thanks.

I could not get what's your current hboot. If it's stock, you do not need to flash another hboot.

Hi, thanks sent, i figured out the hboot problem.
Cheers.

Problem with alot of heros and no fix found USB/ADB

i have seen a problem with alot of heros and mine, to do with when it is connected to computer the drop down menu doesn't appear for sync or mount sd card. i have tried everything and nothing works, the only way you can connect to pc is through fastboot i've tried to -
- checked enable debugging
- update my recovery (thought it was a bad flash)
- reflash radio roms (thought it was a bad flash because someone else had this problem)
- updated hboot
- updated roms
- tried a few different usb cables
- drivers up to date and reinstalled ( mojos post) edit
anyone know what i could do to totally wipe my phone and start again? like original radio, rom, hboot, recovery. thanks in advance for help, i know quiet a few people could do with the help.
Solution found!
i dont know how it worked but it did,
- i installed a 2.1 eris rom which got things rolling on the phone
- installed the new htc sync that was taken from the legend in this post! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653351
- returned back to madaco 3.2 and works perfectly!
Try re-installing the drivers on your computer.
hmm maybe a stupid and too simple suggestion, but are you using any kind of task killer app ? try ignoring the pc sync process,
worked for me,

Install an RUU.
Regards,
Dave
Sparra, i'm having this problem also. Extended discussions have been happening on Modaco too.
foxmeister: you can't instal an RUU if you can't get the phone connected via USB
thanks people, going to try killing pc sync task dont think it will work though maybe will, yeah cant install ruu because phone doesnt connect to computer if you look at OP.
i had the same problem with my phone, had to send it in for repair as even after flashing the RUU update in fastboot i couldnt get anything

there is a thing call micro sd card reader.
before ur phone crash do u did a nandroid backup? if u do pls try restore to the previous one =)
i would of done this but my original nandroid backup was lost!! , wonder if anyone elese has an original unbranded nandroid backup? would be good to try.
From what I can see, you CAN flash roms (updated recovery/hboot etc). ADB is working?
My guess is that you're using one of the Eclair based roms, in which usb-pc didn't work.
Try downloading mountusb from the market.
Yeah sorry i can flash roms through recovery, but no adb, computer doesn't recognise the phone.
I can connect in fastboot and all works to pc in that, I have modaco 3.1 and have used all versions of his Rom, problems started around version 2.5 or so.
Ive also tried mount usb! Might have to send back to htc!
If you put your phone into fastboot and connect, can you then run an RUU against it?
Regards,
Dave
Try another computer and see if it works
If your doing this at work, a lot of companies stop the USB ports from working.
Tried another computer and doing the ruu in fastboot, its my home pc so all usb ports work, ok pretty sure its the phones software and not a hardware problem! Thanks for suggestions!
Yeah. It's a software issue, as you can use the HEROIMG.ZIP method (search here or modaco) from the microSD when you hold vol.down + power. You also get normal fastboot. So no hardware is broken
But... Nothing I've seen mentioned can fix it. Flashing seems to do nothing. I guess there is some NAND somewhere that needs a wipe/reflash (probably the same NAND that stuff like the IMEI is stored in, but that's just a guess at the architecture). If we could find the NAND, we could compare a dump between a broken and working phone and see...

it doesn't see it or says "no drivers found"
which os are you using
i can charge and usb mount even without drivers ...
It doesn't know what it is so doesn't install correctly. It's Windows 7 I don't have an issue with the druvers it worked fine before.
See http://android.modaco.com/content/h...om/300825/usb-device-not-recognized-solution/ on modaco. It's worth a shot, but bear in mind I think it will wipe /data. Might be hard to do a nandroid before though with no SD (as many people experience with this issue)
Well, I have the same problem with my hero and I have original rom, my hero isn't even rooted...

I can not get ANY unroot method to work.

I need to return my phone because the earphone speaker is whacked out but I have spent the last couple hours trying to unroot it and NOTHING is working...
First I tried HTC Sync on my computer, and I get the Error [171]: USB Connecetion Error
Then I tried HTC sync on my bros computer (since I have unrooted using his laptop before with no problems) and I get a different error saying something about i have the wrong version of data utility updater or whatever.
I spent the last couple hours googleing both errors and looking for fixes, but for some reason I could not get any of them to work. I am as frustrated as can be rite now, and any help would be greatly appreciated....
I'd prefer some sort of "dumbed down" step by step process rather than being sent to a another link, because chances are I have tried that method already and I couldn't get it to work...
I also can not get adb shell to work. I installed the sdk, but it still wont show up...
any help from anybody will be greatly appreciated...
try applying the current over the air update. That took root away for many if I remember correctly.
did you enable USB debuging?
I tried searching for the ota's but they're not showing up.
also I am running dc 3.2 currently, which has debugging mode auto-enabled I believe.
So you tried using a stock rom from here to get your phone unrooted?
If you download one of those stock RUU roms it will be an exe file that will automatically install the rom to your phone...is this what you are saying isn't working?
Have you tried doing a full wipe/clear before running anything?
I had the same error when I was unrooting mine. I just unplugged the Evo while it still had the boot loader screen then ran the stock RUU. Worked like a charm.
yes. I tried installing the shipped RUU using HTC Sync, but sync keeps ****ting out on me and giving me errors. My only option seems to be unrooting my phone without using htc sync. But I have tried a couple of the methods e found, but none of them had detailed enough instructions for me to make them work....
I'v literally spent the majority of my day trying to unroot this damn phone and its driving me crazy.... I don't know wth the problem is.. I unrooted a previous EVO before, now it seems hopeless /:

I'd find you the link but I'm at work right now but someone has a fix for that error. Basically I got that error whenever I tried to run the stock RUU and when the phone had the bootloader screen up I just took out the USB cable, stuck it back in, and then ran the RUU again.

Well...I guess I missed that one when I was tooling around, so I wrote my own. You're right. It clearly mentions needing the proper HBOOT, which I found was the key.. But it doesn't mention how to UN ROOT after you "Start Over." It's basically the same thing though...Cheers...

When I place the PC zip file on my sd card and then boot into Hboot, it fails to recognize the card.
I used simple root to root my phone and I am running the .79 Hboot.
I'm trying to follow your instructions but I am about ready to throw this god dam phone at the wall and use insurance to get another one

You have the wrong H Boot. See here: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7471721#post7471721
Should work on any .79 HBOOT in theory, but you have to change it to the .76 one before the RUU or the zip step you are having trouble with. Do Toast's step two which is found in the thread linked above.

I can’t delete apps and I can’t reset my phone

For Gizmoe first time post, thanks for your info I found it with a google search, I was trying to follow your suggestion to FiFa_JockeR, but HTC does not have my phone on their web site. Can you please try to help me reset my phone somehow?
I have a HTC Incredible (ADR6300) and I just want to start over with this phone. Verizon stores no help, HTC customer service no help. They try to do what I’ve done already, “a factory reset”. But it just does not reset! with or without the SD card. This all started with the force closes on a few apps. Then I thought I would delete allot of apps just for the heck of it, then I ran into another problem. I can delete an app(s) while the phone is on but when the phone is rebooted or turned off then on again the deleted app(s) reappears. So I can’t delete apps and I can’t reset my phone. It’s exactly the same as FiFa_JockeR (just like the pictures) only we have different phones from HTC. PS phone has never been rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458066&page=2
For screen shots(the pictures) see first part of this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458066
Then I tried this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2215233
I downloaded and flashed? I put it on my formatted SD card and it loaded
I was excited because things were loading in hboot the file PB31IMG.zip
“Flash latest ruu thru hboot: http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images...15/PB31IMG.zip”
anyway
now it takes about 4 minutes to get past the eye portion of the bootup, then I get “sorry the application bla bla bla has stopped unexpectedly.
please try again. this happens to what must be every app on my phone.
even if I go to settings I get the same thing “sorry the application.........
I just don’t know what to do.
I think the post by cmlusco on Re: [Q] Return to stock might be what I need but I really don’t understand it. I only downloaded the last file because I thought it was all I needed.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

The incredible (ADR6300) is on the www.htcdev.com/bootloader unlocker site, under HTC Droid Incredible *. Best bet is to unlock and flash a recovery, then from recovery do a full wipe. That is if it lets you, i have a feeling you will get errors formating both /data and /cache. If so its pretty much unfixable. There is a mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175346, that will mount /data and /cache to seperate partitions on your sdcard. This makes the phone a little slower, especially booting. But a slow phone is better than no phone, if you cant get a new one. If you need any help just post back.
Does this mean I'm rooting my phone?

Yes you are rooting your phone. Im not sure what you mean by higher risk of radio frequency? If your on hboot 1.02 or 1.07, you can skip the ruu bootloader update part of the htcdev site and proceed to the next step.

oops radio frequency I meant SAR values, and I don’t expect an answer for that. I read the attached paragraph on the HTC site and got concerned.
PS this phone is used for Wi-Fi only, no data plan.

It seems that htc has removed the ruu bootloader update part of the unlock process. Probably because the latest ota should make everyone have an unlockable hboot already. So just do all the steps 1 - 10.
You are not flashing a rom, at least not yet. A rom is basicly an opperating system like windows.
Right now you are getting an identifier token from your phone which you submit to htc in step 10. They will email you back another code with instructions, which you will enter into the phone using hboot and a cmd prompt on your pc.
Just follow all those steps on htcdev and then we will go from there. In your spare time you should read up on rooting and roms and custom recoveries, so that you have some clue of how your phones going to work once were done.
Here I am at HTCdev

Well here I am at HTCdev trying to do step 1, I Select my Device and click Begin Unlock Bootloader. Then I get this dialog box, “Do you wish to continue?” I click yes and nothing happens, I wait, and wait, then click no and it responds by going back to the prior page where you select your device. So I tried selecting other devices and none of them work, sounds like a problem on their site. So I’m at a stand still maybe you can try it and see if step 1 will work for you? by the way I only see 5 steps, like the Attached Thumbnail I uploaded in post #3. also must be a common problem for htcdev just google htcdev and see the results of autocomplete (Thumbnail).
Update 4/29/13: I think I found the 10 steps, checkout this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyRxI15CUnA
This is what i'm trying to do right?,he recommends getting SDK tools too, is this what I should do? In taking your advice to read up on... I googled "rooting and roms and custom recoveries" that's how I found the video.
Unfortunately I still get the same result at the HTCdev site, can you please see if you have the same issue I do at the HTCdev site?
Thanks

Update to my last post. had to use a different email account in order to receive the unlock bootloader key file.
so now I have it, now and I think I need driver(s) because when the phone is in hboot and I plug it in to the computer via usb cable, the task bar shows Installing device driver software, but a couple of seconds later shows Device driver software was not successfully installed. Tried goggling around and found this http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/171178-64-bit-android-usb-drivers.html
I also have a Windows 7 64-bit system and not sure how to extract them out of the SDK Manager.

No, I need your help with link(s) to where I need to go to get the right recovery like you did for the driver(s). Bam done.

I don't want to waste time guessing things and messing up stuff with problematic recovery's. I need one that works even for the novice. I want to get my phone up and running. It's amazing I've come this far.
Thanks to you of course.
I could really use your guidance.
Thanks

Download this http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/TWRP_2.5.0.0/recovery.img to your pc and place it in the same folder as fastboot.exe and the unlock_code.bin. Put the phone in fastboot mode. Open a cmd prompt in your pc and type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You should now have twrp recovery installed. To get to it pull the battery, reinsert, and then hold vol down and power untill hboot comes up. Then navigate to recovery and select it. Once in recovery select wipe and then advanced and select everything except sdcard and emmc, then swipe the bar to start the wipe. We will go from there depending on what happens.
Ready for the next step.

Well it looks like everything wiped ok, your partitions are probably fine. So you can just flash a rom of your choosing. Check out the dev section, there are tons of roms there including stock rooted roms if you want to keep the original feel.
Should I install SuperSU?

1 first screen HTC Incredible
2 teamwin loading screen
3 teamwin main screen, to shut down, I tap reboot
4 at the Reboot Menu I select Power Off then....
5 No OS Installed, “Are you sure you wish to continue” and I Swipe to Power Off.
6 Then I see Install SuperSU, which Roots phone. Should I do this?
Should I install SuperSU?, I tap Do Not Install because I’m not sure what to do.
I want to install the operating system you have or a stock version, Touch Of Blue V3.0
At the dev site I was looking at kernel is that the same as rom?
Can you please guide me with links, let me know which way we are going and how to do it.
Thanks

[Q] Need advice with installing stock ROM

Hey Guys,
I know there are a lot of threads like these, but unfortunately most of them are not exactly up to date, and when you are frustrated with failure that isn't helping either.
So here's the thing, I've tried installing custom recovery and ROM. I used HOX toolkit i've found here, the author suggested using TWRP. It installed okay but i wasn't able to use it because the touchscreen didn't work at all. So I've tried different tutorial on onexroot.com this time with cwm. Again everything installed correctly. I went on to install custom rom (cyanogenmod 10.2) installed it, everything was ok, rebooted my device, the cyanogenmod spinning logo pops up saying something about apps and stuff, then it was stuck for more than 5-7 minutes which pretty much means it doesn't work. So I've tried wiping stuff as said in the tutorial which didn't seem to change anything... Now I'm stuck and have no idea what to do since I haven't backed up old rom (is something like that even possible)
Anyway how should i proceed now?
Is there a way to get back to stock everything or did i just destroyed my hox?
I do realize that this is most probably my fault and i feel really ashamed.
So any working links/tutorials/anything are most welcome
Thanks

OK... First of all PLEASE tell me that you have made a nandroid backup before messing around !?!
If you did than it's all fine...
if not... well, we'll come to that...
So, first of you need to get into the bootloader, and flash the boot.img... Get the file by extracting the cyanogen.zip to your PC...
Now move it to the data folder in the all-in-one toolkit, shft+right click there on empty space and click open with command propmt...
now run:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Now you should be able to boot into cyanogenmod...
Now if you want to go to stock, you can just restore your nandroid and flash the stock boot.img using mentions commands, but if not you'll have to ether find an ruu or find an nandroid backup that someone uploaded with your base...
Now, just believe me this...
The BEST recovery is CWM Touch 5.8.4.0 as of today...
So use it...
1 : he already said he hasn't got a backup
2: cwm 5.8 is not the BEST recovery because it's outdated ! Twrp (repacked or not) or philz touch recovery are way more advanced.....
Just saying
And can I just add that the guides are NOT outdated. They work if you follow instructions exactly
Put the kettle on
gonna try desmonds way.
I didn't back up anything
I didn't mean quides on unlocking your device are outdated, by all means they are great for community created guides. What I meant by that that trying the reverse process is a little bit of a struggle

Ok, but when you execute the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" you should type "fastboot erase cache" before and after that command
Put the kettle on
Thank you so much! All of you! It works! Faith in humanity, people on the internet, myself RESTORED!
here's what i did
Okay, not everything really works.... I'm missing playstore, how should i proceed now? :/
nevermind, just found out why
Okay another problem :/ I wanted to installed google apps, however usb driver doesn't work anymore, why is this? i can see HTC in device manager but i do not have appropriate drivers
Because in cynogenmod UBS debugging and adb are disabled by default... Tap the build number a couple of times to unlock developer options and enable them

Well you go into settings > about > there you will find stuff like android version... if you tap on that a few times you get the jelly beans to play around with, and so if you tap a few times on ether build number or baseband version you will get a toast notification that you are now a developer... now go back to settings and you'll see a new entry at the bottom, called developer options... go in there and turn them on... then fins adb and usb debugging and turn them both on.

[Q] Help!! Firmware gone and PC doesnt recognize my M9!!

I installed recovery to root my HTC One M9 yesterday. It seemed like I made some mistakes and now my firmware is totally gone and my computer doesn't recognize my phone anymore. However I still have access to recovery and I want to know if installing a Rom via SD-card is possible or not. If not, what should I do? Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks!!!
What recovery do you have access to? If it's twrp then yes you can load from sd card.. Have you tried an RUU for your phone? That should work as well.

Hello! Recovery I installed was PhilZ Touch CWM. I'm trying right now! Thanks.
Hi .. I think I made things confused a bit. What I meant by SD-card was external micro SD-card. Thanks!
Not sure what you mean by firmware. This is what you need to do:
Install the latest version of adb. Go to recovery, turn on sideload mode.
in cmd prompt-> adb sideload *location/name of rom.zip* e.g. c:\users\xxx\rom.zip
Restart and bam you are done

Does the computer recognize the phone in bootloader/fastboot/download mode? If you can enter recovery and download mode, then your phone is probably working fine (except for not having a working ROM) and your computer should see your phone on some level.
Are you using WIndows? I think you might need to get your device drivers on your computer working. Check Device Manager if you're in windows. With your phone connected, you should have 2 devices. One should be under a section called Android USB Devices (might be called My HTC) and the other is going to be under Portable Devices section (might be called HC One M9). If you don't have both, then you need to work on your driver issue on your computer.
Edit: Sorry if this is blunt, but since you seem to not really know some very basic terminology, i recommend that you do a LOT of reading on this forum so you can have a better understanding of what's going on with your device and how to solve your problem. I know you might feel like youre in panic-mode because your device won't boot, but you're going to get into more trouble if you just start trying a bunch of "solutions" without having any understanding of what you're doing. I know, because I've been there before.
Edit2: Also, it would help to steer you in the correct direction if you listed your location and carrier info

Actually, the beta version 2.8.6.4 is not recommendet anymore. Captian_Throwback now recommends using the official version 2.8.6.1. (Sidenote: The version number of the official one is lower because the numbering of the beta version is unofficial.)
