[Q] Epic not charging... - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Epic started having a problem a few days ago..
when i connect it to the charger the battery icon blinks red and it wont charge the battery, sometimes it will show like its charging but when i disconnect it the battery hasn't been charged at all.
when i turn off the phone and connect it to the charger it says ""Unable to charge non-supported battery"
does anyone have a fix for this?

Are you sure your battery isn't broken? Most batterys for phones nowadays have a chip in them to let the phone know its temp and charge percentage. It could be possible that the battery or chip has failed on you. Go by a sprint store and see if they'll let you try a new battery in your phone before you buy 1 and its not the problem.

remove the battery for 5 minutes, then try to turn it back on.
i try'd taking out the battery but it didn't work
Try first charging the battery then leave the battery out for a while then charging out again for a little bit then turn on

Was the battery low when this happened? Sometimes when a battery dies completely, it takes some time to get the battery charged enough for the phone to boot.
If you can, try a different battery or go to a Sprint store and have them give it a boost.
Sent from my Evo + MIUI using Tapatalk!
Mine has done that before.
1. Unplug phone from charger
2. Remove battery for a few minutes
3. Insert battery and plug into charger (do not attempt to turn phone on)
4. Let phone charge for about 30 minutes or so
5. Turn phone on
The battery is undercharged.
Either take it to a Sprint store for a boost or plug it up and let it sit until the amber light goes solid.
Also better if use the wall charger rather than a car charger or charging off ur computer. I've had it happen to me and the battery is just fully drained. Pull battery insert battery plug into wall charger and wait a long time. Blinking light will turn solid amber and eventually charge fully. If not then take to sprint store

Phone charging really slow??

So my s2 has been charging really slow, like today it took like 5 hours to fully charge, and when connected to charger if I'm using it it wont charge very well, like the battery will stay at lets say 20% when im using it and charging it, it might even go down more. it used to charge pretty well even if I was on it. Cuz this be the charger, or is my battery messed up?? Im using the charger that came with the phone.

Are you charging through a usb port on your computer or ac? If it is with usb port then yes it will charge at a much slower rate. Also if you have a lot of apps running or backround data going it will also cause your charging to slow down some. I would say through usb without any apps open and backround data stopped It would take a few hours to charge say from 20%. Through AC in the same condition probly 1.5 hours. Try to reboot your phone and then plug it in to charge to see if that doesnt speed it up any. If it does then you know you have backround data moving at a fast rate and that would be your reason to slow the charge down.
Yeah I'm charging with the wall charger, not thru usb

thats pretty weird...have you tried using another usb cable?? maybe the cable is faulty?
Calibrating the battery

You could try calibrating the battery, maybe. To do that, turn the phone off. Charge to full (make sure it's full, by taking it off of the charger and putting it back on...the indicator should read 100% almost immediately when reattached to power).
When the battery is full, with the phone still turned off, remove the battery for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, reinsert battery and restart phone.
Battery will be calibrated. This may not resolve the problem of a slow charge, but will clear 'battery memory' which may have been preventing it from charging completely (and, I suspect, may have inhibited charging).
Good luck!
I was using an aftermarket wall charger and had similar results. Switched to the USB/AC converter that came with the phone and all was well.

Yes, try Battery Calibration from the market. Only works on rooted devices, and follow instructions.

Actually, one doesn't need an app to calibrate the battery. If you follow the instructions above, the app is unnecessary. And the phone mustn't be rooted
YODA? ^^^^
Hey elflip88, have you found the issue yet?
I have the same problem on my HTC Amaze 4G. It's charging 1% every 3 minutes (adds up to 5 hours)
I'm also using the wall charger...oh damn, I'm starting to think I have a faulty device / battery...
yelp!
For the record Samsung devices are known to be slow at charging so with that considered.... You still shouldn't be at 5 hrs. I would find a battery stats app charge your battery over night and check the chart to see exactly how long it takes to go from 0 - 100. Make sure your batter status is good. Also check the voltage coming into your phone from your charger. There are plenty of battery stat apps in the market that will do this sort of thing. Of course make sure your battery doesn't have water damage of course too lol.

I've had the same problem with mine. But, I can get 1.5 days without charging and moderate usage. Charge it up, drain it, charge it back up then wipe your battery stats in recovery.
This may help if you're using an aftermarket wall charger
If you guys are having issues with slow charging using an aftermarket wall charger, it could be that the phone is charging in a USB state rather than an AC charging state. QuickCharge could alleviate your issues. The cable is inserted between the wall charger and the USB cable that goes to your phone. You can find the product on Amazon. It's the 2nd of 3rd item from the top when you search 'QuickCharge'.
I find that when I fully drain my battery and charge it, it's really slow. Once the phone has enough battery to stay on, I unplugged it and replugged it and it charges normal again.

It's your wifi and your apps using wifi. Turn wifi off while charging. I used to charge 4 hours + on my S2. Reduced to 2 and some change when I turn off wifi.
Also, I struggle to make it through a working day with wifi on. Turn wifi off and I can do 4 days no problem.

I old suggest using a different outlet if you haven't done that yet.

Battery problem went from 80% to 20% in a second

Here is a pic of what happened to me. Lately the phone shuts off whrn it gets ecen remotely hot, i can barely feel it getting hot when it shuts down. After that sometimes it wont reboot because the battery has drained and when I plug it in it shows a battery with a yellow triangle. Another thing is that my phone or battery has killed two different chargers and it seems now the only way to charge my phone is through a usb cable either connected to the wall or to my computer.
So which is it, my phone or my battery that is bad?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
As I recall, if the battery is drained and shows the triangle, it just means it's too "dead" to power on.
Hmm, that's strange. Were they Samsung Chargers or generic ones?
Maybe it's a certain ROM or something you are using?

The first charger was the OEM one that came with the phone. It died within 3 months of usage. The second charger was from an old motorola phone I had, my phone killed it almost instantly.
I was using Calk's latest ICS ROM so I decided to flash GB again using this method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394332
The phone doesn't seem to turn off now but the battery DRAINS while charging.
Something must really be wrong here.
Maybe the batterynis too hot if it is it wont charge pluz there is bug in ics its happen to me b4 that y i went back to l29
That's probably a failing battery. Mine drained while charging. Turnout to be a bad cable. I also had the wall adapter start to do that when it went out. Try a new charger and if that doesn't help it is probably a bad battery.

battery and chargers must match check your spec sheet for the correct milli amperage also alot of batteries wont charge when the pack is hot replace battery and charger and wipe your battery stats

a100 can't charge

After a long time no use, I took my a100 out and charge it, the red led at the power button lighted up but it never turn blue even 10 hours later. I powered it on and noticed the battery level was always 0%, everything else is ok though. If i unplug the charger, my tablet turn off immediately. Then I disassemble it, take the battery out and charger it directly about 10 minutes, then i assemble and turn my tablet on, the battery now is 35% but the problem still the same, it can't be charged, the red led still light though. Is there any body know what the problem is and how to fix it, help me please. thanks in advance.
Sorry for my bad english
Not an answer to you Q but I have to say It's always nice not having a removable battery ......can't we just get a battery door and some AA duracells for old times sake

Letting a battery fully discharge is about the worst thing you can do, mostly due to the fact that if the battery voltage drops to low it shuts down to prevent cell damage. Basically the battery is telling the Acer it can't be charged because its damaged.
Short answer - new battery time. If you know someone else with one swap and test.

T325 Wont charge. (Old/brand New battery, indicator shows charging)

Heya, so i know there are threads about charging and other battery problems, but mine seems to be different.
My tablet was used in car almost always on charger, and after almost 2 years such usage battery was low capacity, and one day i noticed it wont charge at all, after turning on tablet battery 0% and shuting down. Indicator shows charge icon, but wont charge.
So i purchased new battery, installed it, battery was @ 56%, so i ran battery benchmark and played some games, wow those 56% lasted 2x longer than old 100% battery. So after it was below 10% i pluged in charger, indicator shows charging so i left it for some time, and after checking tablet i saw it wont charge ((
Same problem a with old battery... Anyone have ideas? May it be charging port?
Hi,
Did u charge it when on or off? And did u try other charger?
Yes used original, and lg chargers. It doesnt matter the tablet is on or off.
When turned off, and connect: screen go on showing battery, after that battery shows green at the bottom of battery and turns screen off after few sec. Pressing home button shows battery again. But as it dont charge it always shows green at the bottom of battery. When turned on simply battery shows 0 or 1% and turns off after a while.
Anyways, ordered new charging port as they are cheap. Will post outcome
Afraid that can be motherboard fried or somethink as before that happened tablet was ON with gaming bot running for like 24 hours.
Installed new charging port board, but wont help ((
