Mobile Fun's mini Video Review
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnU5F_0TyZI&feature=player_embedded
First of all it works, the most important thing, it works well in fact and my 1080p videos look fantastic, those I have downloaded and those I have recorded myself with this phone, they really do look great and a HD TV. So for the measly price of 15-20 sheets its worth it regardless of the issues below.
The only problem:
For those that didn't know, i.e, didn't do their homework, you cannot just plug this in and it will work, it needs power. Now I knew about this and didn't really see it is an issue as I hadn't really imagined how this would look, work and feel. Well I can say that for me (only my opinion) its a bit of a mess, its far from elegant. Basically you have to plug in a usb cable into the adapter first, this powers it, then plug the adapter into the Phone and then the hdmi into the adapter and TV. This is all easily done but like I say it is far from a more elegant one cable solution that doesn't need power and doesn't need an adapter. For me this was my first real disappointment with this phone, a floating turd in an otherwise lake of glittering gold.
Now it could be argued that I knew about this and that I shouldn't be disappointed but I am, the whole thing in your hand just feels ungainly, something you are not going to know until you put it all together. I really don't like the idea that you have to have a second cable to power it either, again I know this so I don't need this pointing out but people should be aware of this drawback, however minor.
Summary (for those who can be arsed to read)
1. It works really well, HD stuff looks fantastic.
2. Its not an elegant solution as you need a usb cable to power the adapter itself.
What about the official Samsung one? That one is probably much better.

marginally better in that the USB input is place in line with the cable and so when inserted it doesnt jut out at a right angle.
This Phone is never going to need MHL, its too early for the tech I think, its a fail for me, should have taken the same route as the LG2x, although even with this issue the sg2 is still the best phone on the market.
Hi. I have expansys version for £13. Also works great. But with yours whilst in use, does the phone keep charge or charge up whilst in use. With mine I find so far that even though the phone is charging whilst connected to the tv, it looses charge

Dont worry - sorted it. Stoppped overclocking to 1.5ghz and using performance govenor (DOH!) and I can now stream 1080p from youutube over wifi (only works through full fat desktop internet browser mode btw, not via the youtbe app or youtube in mobile broweser page mode) with mobile data off and still charges the phone at the same time!
Wow 1080 video over internet wifi straight to tv. This phone rocks!
my only gripe with this adapter is that it requires power, if this port was just put in place to allow charging when playing this would have been fine, its just the fact you cannot use he adapter at all without an extra the power source.
I wonder what it actually is needing the power for.
The problem here is that there is no MHL compliant TV yet afaik.
Cause the MHL port in a TV would provide power to the phone without needing another cable.
You'd want it plugged in anyway. I can see the battery lasting an hour playing 1080P video outputting internally and externally at the same time.
Do you still have to have an external power source on the official samsung MHL adapter?
If so, I really doubt I'm buying one
In other words, I need to have a PC or power contact for it to work?

Hey,
is the output really 1080p (if you have a movie which is 1080p), or is it Android´s/ the phone´s native resolution?
just wondering
bye
Its the phones resolution unless you're in the video player, in which case it outputs it in HD if the source file is HD (does 1080i for compressed video, I've heard it will do 1080p with un-compressed video, but not tried yet to confirm).

Probably for the MHL-to-HDMI bridge chip and any support electronics. Note that once MHL-capable TVs enter the market, it may be possible to use a straight-through passive cable, especially if the MHL-capable TV provides charging input to the phone as promised.
can someone tell me what is the cost for a good cable in us dollars?
Wouldnt it make sense for there to be an option to turn the phone screen off when outputting to the TV?
i orderd mine from clove, still waiting for my order..
I ordered this cable just now at mobilefun, but I made an error in my phone number. Wanted to press the escape button so the page wouldn't continue but it was too late. Lol .. anyway I'm sure it'll be fine. Although, I didn't receive a confirmation email yet
"Expected back in stock: 4-8 days" Grrrr
Official Samsung cable is on Amazon UK at the time I'm posting this for £17.99
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004ULZ0IW
Not sure I really need one but a heads-up for those who want it.
Edit: "Usually dispatched within 1 to 4 months"! - oh well maybe I'll order it and see if I need it when it gets here...
i am using the official samsung hdtv adapter/hdmi adapter. just got it today.
the quality of the output video is fantastic...
only gripe is similar to what was mentioned. have to get it powered before it can be used..
sighs..

I want to buy mhl cable for my note, the thing is, I'm not familiar with this technology at all, seen a few videos where mhl won't work unless its plugged into a power source, which might be an inconvenience as it requires u to carry the charger.
How is the image quality on the screen? 1080?
Anyone with good experience can tell me a way around this, more into less wires carried around?
and a good mhl cable link to buy from, cos there r thousands out there...
Sorry for such question but this is my first Samsung device (coming from desire HD)
Cheers.

I've yet to receive my Note but coming from a GSII I can answer a few things.
Unfortunately, yes you will need to have a power cable plugged into the MHL adapter, and I don't believe there is any workaround.
The effective resolution on the TV will be mirrored from the phone's native resolution. So a phone that is 480x800 will only mirror that resolution throughout the OS. Only when playing HD content will the phone put out 720/1080(p/i) effective resolution.
The great thing with the Note is that because the native res. is already 1280x800, that will be the res displayed on the TV which will be great for web browsing as that's about an average laptop res.
Any MHL adapter should do. I bought a cheap one from expansys and it works without a hitch. Just read any comments on the product to see if previous buyers said it doesn't work on a recent device.
I bought genuine Samsung from Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LGUDKK/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
It arrived as advertised and works great!

I bought a non Samsung one on ebay and am having problems. The connection keeps breaking down and re establishing (the video on the phone continues). I've tried 3 chargers and 2 cables. The MHL adapter gets warm also. I was looking into getting a genuine version from Samsung and looked at Amazon (UK). 1 reviewer had doubts about the authenticity of the device he received, fearing it to be a counterfeit.

I had this issue a couple times on my GSII and I found that using SetCPU to lock the clock speed up to 1GHz+ [depending] helped and basically removed the issue, so give that a try and see if it did anything.
charging through HDMI
isnt the HDMI TV port supposed to charge the device , or provide enough power for the adaptor to work ?
not all models can provide power through HDMI but some newr ones can i suppose ? i read that somewhere so long ago but i cant find it anymore to link as a reference , though im not quite 100% sure of that , ,may be it me saying non-sense ??

From what I recall, TVs that support MHL will provide the adapter with power so the power cable can be used to charge the phone while plugged into the adapter. I might however, not be 100% correct.

Hi there !
I've got the same problem than you, 4braid. Connect/disconnect every 1 or 2 minutes while playing a movie. Perhaps is it a software problem ? I use MX Video Player. What is yours ?
Samsung told me that SGS 2 cables were ok and, more than this, that every MHL cable should work. So, do we need to buy a Samsung cable to test ??

Hi, I am using the default player but I don't think it's the problem as the video continues to play on the phone when the TV cuts out. Also, I've tried playing Asphalt HD through the TV and the same thing happens.
I'm gonna try another better HDMI cable and another app, just tu know if it's better. Perhaps will I have to try also with the branded Samsung MHL cable ?
I bought a non-samsung aswell.
Tried it and it works flawlessly on my LG plasma.
Tried several apps and sources.
Hi,
I think I got a clue !
In fact, it's not so easy to explain but I'm gonna try...
I have put my new HDMI cable between my Galaxy Note and my HD tv. I have watched a new movie with the same video player (MX video player) and I notice great results : no disconnections ! I was very excited and tried the movie that I was watching last time with problerms. And, then, no problems this time ! So happy again !
But that's not finished. Listen...
At a moment, it cuts ! And 4 seconds later my phone rings. I answear and watch my movie again. A few minutes later, a new cut ! And 4 seconds later, my phone rings a second time. I don't answear and the movie goes on. 15 seconds later, my movie stops again and my phone ring to show me that I have a message.
It seems that the phone network is not transparent in that case. More, that not only the fact that phone calls stop the MHL transfer (like the camera application do) because, otherwise, the signal should have stopped at the moment of the phone rings and not 4 seconds before. These 4 seconds are the time, for the phone, to switch between Wifi network to 3G network ! And, that's a fact, I was connected with Wifi during time where my MHL connection worked.
I'm not sure of being clear in my explanations but, if you ever put your phone near a amplified device, there's a symptomatic noise every x seconds or minutes when the phone look for a signal on the phone network (something like bzzz bzzz bzzz). Well, I think that each time that event arrives, the MHL link is "broken" for a little time.
To be sure, I tried somethig else : I have disconnected Wifi and used only 3G network and my disconnections returned back frequently ! I have reconnected my phone to Wifi and I have no disconnections problems again !!
So strange, isn't it ??
Perhaps the distance between my phone and my tv plays too ? It seems that a good quality HDMI cable is a good thing too.
Well, 4braid, could you try to use Wifi a short moment (or even cut the phone network by puting your phone in airplane mode) to test and tell me the result ?

Hi manu_katz,
You are a true genius!!!
Switched to flight mode and played a video with no problems (even tried a game).
Cancelled flight mode and signal to TV lost in less than a minute (video continued on phone). After picture returned to TV I called the phone from my landline and as soon as I pressed the last digit of the telephone number the signal was lost and 4 seconds later the phone rang. Also happened when I sent SMS to myself. I suppose this will happen every time the device "phones home". Many thanks for your info. you have saved my from buying a genuine Samsung MHL adaptor.
Great to hear I was right !
Me too, I have seen a movie entirely, yesterday night !
As I said, perhaps is there ways to correct the problem without need of cutting 3G network (like the fact to use a branded cable or the distance between phone and tv) but for now we find the way to use our f*** not branded cable ! Lol !!

I've encountered that issue too. It's a shame unfortunately, but the only way I've found to get them to work is to use software decoding. It's a downer, but it does work.
I've got a strange problem with my third party cable (similar to this one: http://www.lunashops.co.uk/goods-935.html). It seems like the output is cropped on the top and bottom (so the notification screen and dock are cut off). I've already tried all the aspect ratio settings on both of my TVs (1 HD Ready and 1 Full HD), so that isn't it. Has anyone else experienced this before?
Just seen this anyone know what this is.

It provides its own WiFi network to which up to 3 devices can connect but also has an extra element that allows it to use a bridging mechanism to let your Kindle Fire be connected to the Internet and the Wi-Drive at the same time (not possible with the otherwise interesting AirStash with nice features of its own). You can be using media from the Wi-Drive while looking up something on the Net.
Besides adding storage to the Kindle Fire this way, 3 people can be wirelessly conected to it at the same time and be watching 3 different movies (or the same one) with what customer reviewers describe as smooth response. But it lasts only 3.5 to 4 hours per session, on the battery.
The sharing function is a real plus for families.

I've streamed original 1280 x 720 videoclips shot with a FlipMino HD from the Wi-Drive -- to a Kindle Fire, a Samsung S2 phone, and a Samsung Tab 10.1
They all streamed smoothly. But I don't have an iPad2.
It depends on how you do your file. I've seen now conversion software that is unstable on the intended device and which is not playable from the Wi-Drive and looks like it's torn apart on any of the 3 devices I mentioned.
Positive results came with DVD Catalyst 4 to downsize, and from Emicsoft's easy 'join'ing of mp4's.
I experimented with both the original videoclips and joined ones, which even if called 'lossless' changes something due to the resulting somewhat smaller file.
The FlipMino HD uses 60 frames per second.

The Nook Tablet has the SD slot and costs $50 more + the cost of a good SD card. (It also has better specs in total.)
The Wi-Drive can be shared by 3 devices at a time, accessing the same data or different data. Can't do that with an SD card, but it all depends on your need for that. Some are sharing it on trips, for kids in the back of the car.
But it still lasts only 3.5 to 4 hours tht way.
Someone else mentioned it acts as a hotspot. Actually, it doesn't serve Internet data. It just serves its own stored data. Other devices connect to the Wi-Drive as a sort of cloud and it provides the wireless access to itself -- but not to the Net.
It can, though, be used with a connected device while the latter accesses the Net. It uses some kind of bridging mechanism to do that.

Here's the good thing. You can use the Wi-Drive while it's plugged in. Doesn't matter if the battery's drained. People on vacation can use it in their hotel rooms that way.
I just did the setup to use the Wi-Drive and be on the Net at the same time. It's easier than I thought from reading it the first time. You just put the Wi-Drive on your WiFi network (using the Wi-Drive app on your Kindle Fire) and then the Wi-Drive reboots.
After it's done, and ready, you use the app on the KFire to connect with the Wi-Drive again and then check the Wi-Drive's network connections status and there's an icon that, if it shows up, means you're both on the Net, via the Wi-Drive and also able to access the Drive. The other ones I've read about don't do both at the same time...

Are you sure you can use it while it's charging? Did you actually try it?
The article states that you can not.
His caveats are that with two or more people using it at a time, constantly streaming, it runs for only 3 hours and then must be re-charged again and you cannot recharge this with the miniUSB adapter while using it. He doesn't say how long it lasts with one person using it.
That was actually one of the things that was turning me against it... would love to know if it's not true.
Though honestly, I will probably just wait for a stable ICS ROM that will, hopefully, by then have the usb host function working.

It turned out that the customer reviewer was wrong about not being able to charge it while accessing it. I've just replied to his review because I AM able to charge it while running a movie from the Wi-Drive. At home. With the power adapter that came with the unit. However, Kingston is clear that you cannot charge it and access it if you are using the USB cord with a computer. It has to be with the power adapter that comes with the unit or is Apple Certified.
The reviewer was describing not being able to charge it in his car once the battery was run down. I called Kingston tech support to find out if there was something different about its use with car adapters, and a Level 2 tech support rep said that it does charge it while you're using but the car adapter has to be up to a certain standard and the best thing to do is look for car adapters that are Apple Product Certified.
I haven't been able to test that yet though!
So anyone can confirm if we can use wi drive while charging with power. adapter?

It comes with its own charger. The chargers need to be at a standard, they said, which qualifies for 'Apple product qualified' ... The one that comes with it definitely works.
There's also a trick that's needed which I mentioned and the customer reviewer added to his updates. And that's to make sure it's off without the charger plugged in.
Turn it On w/o the charger plugged in. Then turn the Wi-Drive back On to let it get activated. At that point, plug in the power adapter .
I got the Cable Matters MHL to HDMI adapter (no links- under 8 posts) from Amazon. Perfectly inexpensive, quality is alright. I use my existing adapter heavily; multiple emulators, Sixaxis Control Utility, and along with a keyboard and mouse I use it like a second desktop. However, sometimes video output ceases for a few seconds, giving a black screen on whatever you're outputting to. The video output on the phone is unaffected. Apparently this is a common issue for this adapter. While it's not deal breaking (it still works fine and only cuts out for two to three seconds every five to twenty minutes), I want to know if the official adapter has this issue as well. While it's twice as expensive, I may put down the money sometime down the road to replace the one I've got.
What do you have, how well does it work?

Apparently this is a common issue for this adapter. While it's not deal breaking (it still works fine and only cuts out for two to three seconds every five to twenty minutes), I want to know if the official adapter has this issue as well. While it's twice as expensive, I may put down the money sometime down the road to replace the one I've got.

I've played FF7 via FPSe piped to my TV using the OEM Samsung MHL adapter for about 2 hours straight and never noticed any issues. Works great. And I got it for $16 off eBay shipping included.

Sounds like an idea. I use mine for FPSE as well. And N64oid. Spent about an hour playing Super Smash Brothers before work today. Only cut out about three times during that run, lol.
In my experience the cutting is interference from the phones antenna , tried it in airplane mode? WiFi doesnt interfere.

Have not tried airplane mode. Mostly, this is because I often use it as a desktop computer. Actually does the job fairly well. 19" flatscreen TV, BT keyboard and mouse, web browsing becomes a much more pleasant experience.
Mozilla needs to get off their asses and add an option to change the text size though. Dolphin works great but doesn't agree with some sites.
Indeed, that type of use shows the awesomeness of this device, i sometimes use Ubuntu, there's a nice package posted somewhere here, Firefox, GIMP etc on a cellphone is amazing. But enough of that ot, if airplane mode doesn't give you those cuts then when reconnected to cells try to position the cable in a way that it wont catch so much interference, i connect it to a 27" tv/monitor/tuner/almost coffee maker combo, and depending on positioning i can catch the moment when i'm going to loose signal by the tv's speakers catching the interference. Maybe you can find a position where it wont cut, i was able to position it in a safe way, so i believe it might be the lack of any screening at the chip on the cheap design.
one quick question i bought the mhl adapter from dealextreme a while ago but i´ve never really used till now since i bought a ps3 controller, my question regards image quality.
I am aware that the mhl adapter that i bought it isn´t the official but many people rated it high quality, when i play for example an emulator or riptige gp the image quality looks a lot better on the phone than it does on a tv or pc monitor, i´ve tested both, i don´t know if its just because the screen is smaller the image looks sharper but for example playing mario 64 on a big screen the image looks a bit squared/pixelated.
I even installed a pc emulator to compare (looks better), forced anti aliasing with chainfire and still looks pixelated.
The info that appears on my monitor is that the image is working at 1080i 1920*1080.
Is this normal ?
I have the official Samsung MHL adapter. It works great, the only issue is the display is a little bit trimmed off from the top and bottom. I have checked it on multiple TVs so I don't think TV settings are the issue.
mousiope, i know what you mean, it may be disorienting a bit, this is how it works.
The cable output is HD, but its only cloning the phones screen resolution when not playing high res videos, thats what produces the low resolution view on the monitor, so yes, it is because on the small screen it looks sharper. I noticed that on the emulators this is even more visible than on other uses, maybe the emulator itself is generating lower res than phones screen? never really looked at it. Try to change the LCD Density, its not quite the same than higher resolution but helps a little (mind tho that touchwiz doesnt scle properly with changes in lcd density, meaning it gets a little messy, small font, 4 icons per row always etc).
flippity, i never noticed trimming on my MHL output. Will check it tho.

My original adapter has cuts followed by a horrible noise. It was a lot worse when i used the charger that comes with the phone, probably the electrical distribution in my block sucks. Powering the adapter with USB power from my notebook almost solved the problem.
But it's quite pointless powering the cellphone with a computer instead of just using the computer's HDMI... In fact the MHL support sucks IMO, the only true 1080i/p is the video player, not even the photo viewer supports it! The other manufacturers like HTC, LG, Motorola and even NVidia had the descence of releasing an API enabling this functionality since it's not supported by Android itself.
Now that Bloodrainer mentioned, I never used the MHL in airplane mode... interesting...
Well, i get nasty noise in audio output when connected to a cheap car charger, so yea, i'd vote for your houses electric wiring, sadly i dont know much about electrics my vote would be to try a grounded plug with a surge protector?

does cm9 support mhl or the ics leaked sammy rom!? will the api support be available with ics?

No clue about api support, none of the AOSP based roms suport MHL, as it requires much of the samsungs frame and stuff, so sadly cm, miui, etc dont support MHL, not tried the leaked ICS yet, but i belive it should support MHL as its samsung's release.

Is it possible to attach a BT trackball/keyboard without a dongle, or somehow use an other adapter I can attach (possible by a double adapter)
Once connected to my TV the only way to change any input is via the Note.

Hi Purchased from Amazon UK (seller was Amazon)http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0051D3KKI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 actual price £23.55 but now looks like Amazon have suspended that item until they review a complaint, suggest you keep an eye on that link.
Surprised No has been able to answer my question regarding BT trackball!!!
If its a BT track ball I would think it will hook up just fine, same way a BT mouse would.
Just to let you know if you are in the UK with a HMV store nearby you can get these for £10. Picked up a couple last week.

Hi which one do you have, how do you connect it to the tablet, I assume its just Bluetooth no dongle, thanks.:good:
Simple the original one:
http://www.amazon.de/PlayStation-Du...HY/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1362585611&sr=8-10
bought it when it was on amazon for 35€ incl. shipping!!! nice deal i thought. I do connect it with the app "sixaxxis" (bluetooth). Requires root though, but pretty nice app. Now i can play all the games of my childhood: zelda (oot, n64), tekken (psx) without the need to install the damn ugly consoles in my living room .. thats just awesome!!
After installing the app I noticed that you can emulate a mouse. That is very useful to me for streaming movies from my server, look something up on imdb and so on with the hdmi adapter...
any more questions? ?

Thanks, not rooted, do not want to go in that direction, so am I correct in assuming you can only connect bt directly to tablet when you root it, otherwise I need a dongle??
So no way of having it connect to bt when using the hdmi adapter, bummer.
Question: Is the HDMI output lag-free, do the homescreens run smooth and is the image quality okay?
I just sent back the wireless allshare adapter because the streamed image has 15FPS when not buffered, the quality is worse than i expected and it ends every multitasking capability of the Note.

Well, keep in mind the ASCD won't mess with the resolution or color depth of the image displayed on the LCD, so if you see video quality issues (bad scaling or graininess or such) it's likely due to what your TV does with the not-quite 720P resolution of the signal from the Note 10.1 (1280x720 isn't a native resolution of most monitors and likely scales it to 1366x768), so I'm betting that the picture via the HDMI hard-wired cable will look the same (on static images) as did the picture from the ASCD.

New 2013 model of HDTV Adapter?
I'm shopping around for an HDTV Adapter for my GT-N8010 at the moment, and I've noticed that several online shops are advertising a new 2013 model - EPL-NPHPBKG.
e.g. - www dot amazon dot com /Original-Samsung-Genuine-EPL-NPHPBKG-EPL-3PHPBEG/dp/B00B8NJ6E4
They claim that it is the next verson of EPL-3PHPBEG (the model that this thread is about). Does anyone know what the difference is? The only thing I can see that might be an improvement is "Simultaneously charge your Galaxy Note 10.1 while streaming". I've seen reports on other threads about their tablet not charging while plugged in to the HDTV adapter. Can you confirm if this functionality exists on your EPL-3PHP?

Ah. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166540
Hi,
I dont know the id of my hdtv adapter but as far as i own it since the early days of my previous tab 10.1 (p7500) I am pretty sure it's the "old" one.
I can confirm the adapter is definetly charging my n8000 while connected to my tv behind the docking station (universal samsung), streaming .mkv from my ubuntu desktop / server machine and being controlley by emulated mouse with my ps3 gamepad (via sixaxxis).
Sure you won't win a speed challange with that configuration but the main point is it is charging. I guess about ~ 2..3 % / 0,5..1,0 h (never did a measurement ) but still charging. Thats pretty nice because sometimes when I come home from university and the battery is nearly empty (sometimes 2 days of usage with a single charge) I plug my note into the docking station, let it charge to 3 or 4 %, turn it on and start streaming. When I end the day and shut down the tv the note is at about ~10% and ready to get charged the whole night.

Looks good!
Update, just purchased apple Magic Trackpad looks like it works on my Tablet, No Dongle just Pin number input for connecting, so in theory I will be able to use it to control Note 10.1 whilst connected via HDMI adapter to TV, will confirm when it arrives this week.
Just received my EPL-3PHPBEG from Expansys. It was not the most expensive, but dirt cheap either. It works. It says it is for the Tab 10. The price on this seems to vary wildly with the cheaper ones (19-25$) all seeming to be out of stock, except today went back to Amazon and the Zeeestmm version now seems to be in stock and going for 29.00$
It works for my purpose - Powerpoint and other document projection. It does need to be powered, and the tab needs to be rebooted at least for the projector to recognize it. So it's working fine on my Tab Note 10.1.
What chaps me about Samsung, it the myriad of numbers and letters, all a bit different, but all seeming to be the same item. I thought it was bad with the phones and tabs, but it is beyond annoying with accessories.

Thanks for the reminder. Probably the image will look not better than before. However, it was not a difficult decision why i sent the Allshare Cast Hub back to amazon. For 60€ it's just to much for what it would have been for me. Ending all MultiWindow possibilities is probably the worst part. Well, with the HDMI cable i won't be able to connect USB anymore .. so everything has pros and cons. For what it offers, the wireless adapter was just too expensive and i was really annoyed that it was never remarked on ANY website i read that it ends multitasking features of the Note 10.1.
Hi does anyone know of a wireless HDMI dongle that works with the GPad for home use? I have a slightly odd setup so will need to do the sound via the headphone socket (and don't want audio delay). In theory HDMI 1.3 should work it out. Does anyone know of a dongle that is worth trying? There seems precious little information out there...

Thanks, which slimport did you get? That would certainly be the safer option for my purposes (and cheaper!). There seem to be some costing £7 and some costing £30. I have no idea if it is a passive device, in which case they should all be the same, or if there is actually some electronics in the slimport in which case perhaps best to get a more expensive one.
The miracast options on ebay all have very mixed reviews...
I got one of these:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/6FT-Slimport...DA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item338b30046e&_uhb=1
I specifically got that one because I'd rather have my charging plugin at the BACK of the TV instead of tangled up in the front. Most Slimport adapters have the USB end and the charging end within inches of each other.
I find it works just fine, and the G-Pad will also let you do other stuff while the video is mirrored on the screen (yet another thing the iPad! doesn't do!). The only thing that doesn't work well is charging while plugged into the TV - as it's designed for phone use, it's only a trickle / 500mA charge (if that), which will keep the G-Pad going but won't charge appreciably (or at all) while you're outputting to the TV. Better just to use it only for the TV and keep your regular charger for direct use.

Happy to go with either miracast or chromcast so long as it does what it is supposed to do, the video quality is good (eg for watching netflix on my 1080p projector) and i can use the headphone socket on the LG Gpad (not the amp as it doesnt have hdmi). But I suspect miracast is better for netflix?

Thanks. They seem to get much better reviews on amazon, but at £50 they also seem to cost double. I guess one has to pay up for this! Is there much of a lag? Not worried about gaming, but more about lipsync with the headphone output on the LG against the video...
I brought mine of ebay for £40. It does have some lag but not too much lag and so it good for internet and look at images. Games also work but u might notice some lag 1/10 Times.

Well in the end I "played safe" and got a CAMAC SlimPort (rathern than miracast). I plugged it into my 1080p projector but nothing comes out. Do I have to set anything on the LG? For anyone that is interested, I finally got this going. Had to use a different HDMI cable. Video quality on netflix is pretty good, although it is a bit jerky. Guess I will have to watch a whole film to really see how it goes. The sound out of the headphone socket is definitely delayed and there is an easily noticeable lipsync problem with it, but I would say it is tolerable...
It's not cheap but from what I have read the Amazon Fire TV and Allcast could have screen monitoring with sound remaining with the device casting the screen. I haven't been able to locate where I read this though.
Netflix works very well using the ~$50 Belking HDMI 2.0 Miracast Dongle. Virtually flawless playback.
