Angled Power Connector. Where to get one - Xoom Accessories

Anyone know where to find angled power connector. I been search from forum to forum. Could not able to find one right/left angled power connector.
Another thing is Nokia charger have same connector ?
Something like this
http://www.sz-promo.com/cn-img/628/656cnal2/incar-charger-713.jpg

Bump and another question
Anyone know what is the 2 gold connected beside the charger ?

The two gold contacts on the bottom of the Xoom are the charging points that the docking stations use to charge the Xoom.

I've been wondering the same thing. I'd love to use my stand and charge at the same time.

Yes, PLEASE. Anyone locate an L shaped or elbow shaped charging tip?

anyone know where to find a right angle / 90 degree charging adapter?

Im trying to find a charger which isnt that big as the original one. and i would prefer a angled as well.

Bump. TIred of the cable getting in my way when I have it angled on my lap. I really wish the charger port was on the side.
Many "universal" power adapters (with the different sized attachable tips and the adjustable voltage on the transformer) are already angled. I'm using one for a media player in my living room but I can't find the other tips!
Check it out here:

If anyone knows what the official name or measurement of the tiny tip that plugs into the xoom is it would be a great start to searching ebay for a generic adapter. The stock motorola xoom adapter outputs 12V @ 1.5 Amps, the one I linked to is only 1.2 Amps so probably wont charge the xoom very well, and unfortunately I'm pretty sure this is the one I have at home.
EDIT:

Rated at 1.7 Amps, this should work just fine as going higher in amps is harmless. The question however is if one of those tips will fit...

For what it's worth, I'm using a 12v 1.2A power adaptor I had knocking around with a 'large-DC-jack-to-Xoom plug' adaptor I bought on ebay. It seems to work and charge fine. Sadly it's a straight lead though.

Fast car and home chargers (full 1 amp)?

So I bought a car usb charger that claimed it was rated at 1 amp. Using both my blackberry and HTC oem usb cables it will only show up as a USB charger (500ma).
This is not exactly enough to charge the phone while using 3g, gps, full screen brightness, etc. I'm looking for a good confirmed 1 amp hardwire (not using a usb cable) car charger and home charger. I used my sisters Samsung charger (rated at 700ma) and it charged it quicker than with the OEM htc charger.
And I would like to try and get ones that are confirmed to show up as fully charging the phone. I would appreciate some insight

I went through a few different car chargers, so I can help you out here. I bought the Belkin car charger recommended here in another thread, low profile and rated at 1A, but my phone only recognized it as USB and charging was fairly slow, extended road trips using video recording and navigation while plugged in would drain my battery over time.
I used my friend's palm pre home charger and it worked very well, so I went on to Amazon and bought the "palm vehicle charger". The one I got in the mail (from Park Deals) was DOA, wouldn't turn on at all (I emailed Park Deals and they sent me a new replacement free of charge, didn't even have me ship back the defective one). I called the local radio shacks and found one in stock at $9.99 (radio shack isn't carrying palm anymore, so the accessories are on closeout but hard to find in stock). Works like a charm, the phone recognizes as AC charging, the phone still charges while running navi or recording video.
My friend got a cheapo car kit on ebay, came with rubberized case, mount that fits the evo with the same case on, and a cheap unlabeled car charger with a bungie type cord. I tried this on my phone, my evo recognizes it as AC also, so I assume it would charge well if it's rated at 1A. I've seen several other cheapo car chargers rated at 1A as well.
Another thread here on XDA says that if you modify your charger/cable by altering the middle data pins you can get the phone to believe the usb port is plugged into the wall and draw full current from the charger. I tried covering the two middle pins with a piece of paper and plugging it in, but this didn't work for me. The other methods involved shorting the two data pins together, I didn't really want to waste a cable or mess up a charger and potentially my phone so I just bought a different charger. Another thread mentioned buying a specific rocketfish usb cable had a similar effect.

That was me on both accounts. Love my rocket fish cable. Bought the 12v/usb converter for the car and whether or not i use the pc or car to charge, it shows as ac charger on the phone. I use this cable on all my pc's as well as the usb outlet in my vehicle.
This is the charger that I bought from amazon. It shows up as charging from AC (instead of USB) charging. It's available for Amazon Prime for under $6:

One the 2.1 amp port, the Evo only charges at 1 amp. The Evo doesn't charge any faster with this charger than any other 1 amp charger.

Gotcha, thanks for the info.
I just ordered a Rocketfish cable. We'll see how that works.
Would be nice if they made a Y-cable to get 1amp from 2 USB ports in a PC. I mean, I know they MAKE cables like this but I read somewhere that HTC phones were designed to still only charge at 500mAh even with one of those.
Dunno.
It depends on what you're using as a charging source. When usb charging on my home pc or car, it's AC charging at 1 amp.. But if I'm charging with my Energizer external battery, it's only USB charging at 0.5 amp. This is using the same usb cable.
iGo
Would anyone happen to know what an iGo tip (A97) delivers? I am trying to rig up a custom solution that is hard-wired, but uses iGo tips so I don't have to use the cigarette lighter plug and I have the flexibility at the corner of my windshield to swap tips for different devices.
Right now, I have a 4-port USB hub installed under the dash that is 12v powered. I then use a proprietary iGo cable that uses a standard PC style USB connector on one end and then terminates into an iGo tip connector at the other end. That USB cable runs up to the corner of the windshield so I can swap tips at will.
If I use the iGo A97 tip on their cigarette lighter adapter, it seems to charge, but I am not sure at what rate. If I try to use the A97 tip on the USB hub, it charges for about 2 seconds, and then the light goes out. The Evo does not seem to like the custom arrangement, yet all my other micro usb devices do not seem to have any issues and charge just fine...
Thanks,
-Rob
I can attest to the Moto 513 working fine - it has served me very well on my Evo and the Treo Pro before it.
Unfortunately it is a big ass charger though - wish there was a good micro option.
How do u determine how much power its actually charging at or if its not using the full 1amp rating?

How to Modify 1 Amp Car Chargers to show AC Mode

So I was getting a bit frustrated with buying single and dual USB car chargers that were rated at 1Amp/Port and still having the EVO showing USB charging. I have five chargers now and they all show USB Charging while in spare parts. So being frustrated, I wanted to figure out and solve the problem. After a lot of surfing and digging, I came across the answer. If you check out this wikipedia link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus#Power
You'll find the answer in the Battery Charging Specification of the link:
"In Battery Charging Specification,[31] new powering modes are added to the USB specification. A host or hub Charging Downstream Port can supply a maximum of 1.5 A when communicating at low-bandwidth or full-bandwidth, a maximum of 900 mA when communicating at high-bandwidth, and as much current as the connector will safely handle when no communication is taking place; USB 2.0 standard-A connectors are rated at 1500 mA by default. A Dedicated Charging Port can supply a maximum of 1.8 A of current at 5.25 V. A portable device can draw up to 1.8 A from a Dedicated Charging Port. The Dedicated Charging Port shorts the D+ and D- pins with a resistance of at most 200Ω. The short disables data transfer, but allows devices to detect the Dedicated Charging Port and allows very simple, high current chargers to be manufactured. The increased current (faster, 9 W charging) will occur once both the host/hub and devices support the new charging specification."
The key here is shorting the D+ and D- pins. Looking up the USB pinout can be found here:
http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml
So, taking my cheapest charger that I bought from Walmart for $5.99 that had dual ports that said it was rated at 1A/Port, I opened it up and soldered pins 2 and 3 together for each port and put it back together.
So now with my modified cheapo USB car charger I went to the car and plugged it in and plugged in the EVO. Low and behold, it now says it's "AC Charging" and now it will pull the full 1 Amp.
So with the result to my satisfaction, I opened up my other chargers, ranging from three different Scosche chargers and one single port Belkin 1 Amp charger, soldered pins 2 and 3 together, and now all of my chargers are showing "AC Charging" using the "Spare Parts" app.
Once you take the charger apart, it's fairly obvious which pins are 2 and 3. I guess I should have taken pictures of each one as I had it apart so you could see it.
I hope this helps others with getting the full charging capacity out of their 1 Amp car chargers. Because running Google Navigation or apps such as Pandora/Subsonic will really suck down the juice.
Wow.. great info! Thanks for posting that!
What gives you the impression that it's not drawing 1A when on an actual USB port...or vice versa, what guarantees you the 1A after this trick? ...(yes, I'm just trying to see your logic)...

According to everything that I've read on how the EVO and other phones charge, unless it can detect that the charger is a dedicated charger and not connected to a computer, the phone will only draw a max of 500 milliamps at 5 volts. Most of the time, it will only draw 400 milliamps at 5 volts.
There are a lot of threads here on trying to get chargers rated at 1 amp to actually have the EVO charge at 1 amp. The secret is that the 2 and 3 pins must be shorted before the EVO will even attempt to draw more amperage then a normal USB port.
Though you should only do this mod if the charger is truly rated at 1 amp at 5 volts.
So, if I bridge pins 2 and 3, and ground pin 4...I should be able to get it to pull 1 amp and launch into car mode right?

Just bridge pins 2 and 3. Leave pin 4 alone. You could also mod a cable to do this, but make sure you never plug it into a computer!
The EVO will now see the charger as a dedicated charger and attempt to draw 1 amp. Though, based on what I have been reading, it wil more than likely draw 800 milliamps instead of 1000 milliamps. Same goes for USB charging at 400 milliamps instead of 500.
How did you get the belkin apart??
Can someone describe to me specifically what it looks like on 1A AC vs a 500mA?
I've tried plugging mine into a couple of 1A wall chargers that I have (including the HTC included charger) as well as my car and house 5mA chargers, and don't see the difference on screen.

I had to use my pocket knife to slip it in between the spring loaded metal ground part and the plastic case. Make sure you identify which side will lift off. The top part is attached to one of the halves and you don't want to pry against that side. Just put a bit of pressure on each side until you can crack it apart. When putting it back together, I had to use some super glue on each side of the case after I had pressed it together. Just a couple of drops on each side and it looks none the worse for wear. Except it now charges at a a full amp (probably 800 milliamps)

Back to this one about grounding pin 4. I know that in another thread someone mentioned hacking a cable on the mini USB end to bridge pins 4 and 5 (the "X" on the diagrams on the second page linked in the first post) to automatically put the car in "car dock" mode. Any ideas how we could accomplish this at the regular USB plug end, since there are only 4 contacts on that side?

I believe pin 4 doesn't get used so it's the one missing on the regular USB side...Based on that it would make sense for a wire from pin 4 to not extend all the way. You might just be stuck with with opening it towards the micro usb end.

USB Cable / Car Charger / Wall Charger combo

Hey guys,
Looking for a combo micro-usb wire that also comes with a dual car/wall charger. I dont care if its two pieces or three pieces, but I just care that I can keep the Captivate plugged in and not have any issues using it. The last one I bought was a Duracell three way usb combo that had a retractable wall charger on the travel charger piece, but it wasnt giving enough power to the phone, so i couldnt use it while plugged in.
I have been looking at the "Premium USB power kit" by A Days Tech on Amazon, but im worried its going to be a generic POS and not give enough juice.
Anybody know which of these works?
I guess I can also buy a high quality micro-usb wire and then a high quality USB car charger/wall plug seperately as another option. So any opinions on those are also appreciated.

There are a bunch of threads on charging these phones. Unless the charger or the cable has the data lines shorted, the phone will only charge at USB rate (~500mA). Even if you have a 1A car charger, the best you will get is USB speed UNLESS you connect the data lines on the cable. I have not seen a car charger that does this.
The most current the phone will draw is around ~750 mA. It will do this when it thinks it is attached to AC.
Hi,
I bought the Scosche HC12V Dual Home Charger, but I haven't received it yet, but from what little I know of the brand they supposedly make good accessories. I should receive it in a few weeks (shipping a captivate and accessories overseas).
Both outputs are rated at 1amp, the only thing is that it does not come with it's own cable.

I bought a car charger and separate car-to-wall converter from Monoprice. Total for both items about $5. Maybe it only charges at 500 mA but seems fine to me.

I'm looking for this information so I can order a new tip for my Energizer Xpal. http://www.xpalpower.com/us/products/
I'd like to find a part number for the male plug that can be ordered from a parts site like Digikey. 12v 1.5A supplies are dirt cheap, I just need the plug to splice on.
I just tried an old nokia charger and the tip works, but the charger is 5v 300ma
I am attaching the tip to a 12v 2 amps... hope I don't fry it... ha
Will keep posted

The nokia old plug works with the Xoom.
What model nokia was the phone that adapter belonged to?

Wall USB Outlet (1000mA)+ 6ft Gold Plated USB Cable

The USB wire the comes in the box was way too small for my liking, so i needed a longer wire, and I figured I might as well buy another wall outlet for travel or just for the heck of it. And I could not find a decent wire for under $5, until I came across this.
$2.28 - High-Speed WALL Power to USB Female Converter (1000mA) - White: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10311&cs_id=1031106&p_id=6784&seq=1&format=2

They are out stock on the Black Wall USB plug.
The only downside was the S+H, it was $6.60. So I ordered 4 wires, and 2 plugs ($9.74). Total came to $16.34, which is not bad as I could not find anything even close on Amazon.
The combination work perfect. I have attached some pictures below. (Note: All pictures were taking with SGSII, EXCEPT the picture with the SGSII in it, that was taken with a Nexus 4G.)
Just wanted to let everyone know in case someone also wanted to buy one of these.
lucky for me i dont have to pay s&h with monoprice, they're awesome regardless though. I live 5 minutes away from their dist. center so i can just pick up
Funny thing, the 10' cable is cheaper than the 6' in OP.
Also, this phone comes with the exact charger that my Droid Charge came with, but the DC came with a much longer cable.
I've got about 5 of those same wall chargers (in black). Be careful unplugging them, as 3 of mine have all left one of the prongs in the WALL SOCKET when I unplugged them. I notified Monoprice customer service, and they're sending me replacements, but they'll be of the same design.
I hope they change the design soon, because right now both of the prongs are just held on by a piece of solder. One too many tugs and they come right out. So once you plug it in, leave it!
Thanks, I just ordered one of the 6ft cables
Awesome! Exactly what I was looking for. Got 3 cables, 1 wall charger and 1 car charger.

$2.28 - High-Speed WALL Power to USB Female Converter (1000mA) - White: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10311&cs_id=1031106&p_id=6784&seq=1&format=2
$1.40 - 6ft USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core (Gold Plated): http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2

Well considering the stock charger is also a 1000mAH... it won't be any faster.
yeah didnt think to check for myself. to much sleep depprevation.
Sorry if this is a noob question, Im coming from a blackberry so Im a bit retarded in this subject.
Are monoprice good quality cables? The supplied cable with the epic touch is just.. ridiculously short. The block.. charger.. thing is fine, I just want a longer cable! I found some longer OEM chargers as well that I was thinking of getting off Amazon.
IE:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-ATADU...=wireless&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1316961827&sr=1-1
Either way its no big deal, just dont want to end up frying my phone because I cheaped out on cables lol.
also, for anyone looking for a car charger, ive read great things about:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehi...Q9CA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317080917&sr=8-1
i plan on getting that myself, waiting to hear some feedback on the monoprice cables first though, otherwise ill go with the samsung oem charger i posted above

I bought this one since it is an official Samsung charger, for cheap ($5):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UB279A
But I bought it using the link shown below - the "buy all items" showing the Samsung car charger, Samsung regular charger + USB cable, and Samsung extra USB cable for $10 total.
Bear in mind - the USB cables are all the shortie length cables.
The car charger seems nice, has a spiral cord of decent length - same as my old Motorola charger.

What's the difference between the Gold plated and the non Gold plated?
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5459&seq=1&format=2
and this
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5139&seq=1&format=2
? Besides .10..
the description of the gold plated one says:
- Gold Plated Connectors for corrosion resistence ensuring consistant and reliable conductivity
- Ferrite Core to filter out signal noise and reduce transmission errors

Since I have not seen anyone answer your question, yes, monoPrice is an excellent site for great and cheap cables. Highly recommend them. Also, since you are coming from a BB, that is the brand of home/office charger that I always use... The foldable blade BB micro USB chargers that put out 5V worked perfectly on my Evo 4G and current Evo 3D... Looking to use that for my Epic 4GT when I get that in a couple days

I got one of those $2.28 wall blocks for my girlfriend's 2nd gen ipod touch. She was delighted because ipods don't come with wall chargers. At least the 2nd gen didn't. Apple trying to be "green" and crap.
Is there any risk using these non-Samsung chargers. Yes, they also put out 1000mA, but do they auto-shut off once the charging is complete, etc?
just a heads up the wall/usb charger plug has been discontinued
anyone know of another 1000mA option?

No risk using non-Samsung as long as you get one from a reputable brand or company. After all, the included chargers are usually POS and still get the job done. No offense, but the charger in the OP looks to be very cheaply-made. And I have to wonder if the components inside reflect that. If you invest in a higher quality charger now you will still be using it 3-4 phones later, if not longer, and they will pay for themselves. Same goes for cables.
Monoprice is awesome. When working in the A/V field I lost count how many hundreds of their cables and adapters I used. Several levels of quality usually available, at great pricepoints.
I've been using a Rosewill 4-port wall charger for a few years and it's been problem-free. Puts out 2 amps.
