I get this "#" in my notification bar sometimes.
When I slide the bar down, it says, "Superuser may be malicious".
I'm running Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS5, have never had a problem until now. Been flashing a few of the Sense 3.0 roms being tested right now, but am back to Myn's.
What does this mean?
Thanks in advance.
Is this coming from Lookout or something like that?
Superuser has the ability to access the root of your phone, that's why some protection apps may call it a malicious app.
Superuser is OK.
what app is giving the notification? what apps have superuser permission atm? any new ones recently? check the list, and make SURE there are none you don't know about (cuz that woudl def be malicious)
I have seen this message as well. I am running the stock rooted 4.24.651.1 ROM. It shows up for me when using Titanium Backup, which has superuser permissions. There is no indication of what application is calling the warning message. When you select the warning message in the notification menu it opens the superuser app and the message disappears. There are no strange or additional applications in the superuser permissions list. I did not see this message on the 4.22.651.2 or any previous ROM.

That was my first thought as well, but there is no indication that Lookout is giving me this message.
Seems to happen a lot when plugged into my computer.
Anyway HTC Sync could be playing a part?
Okay, I was able to get caps of the problem in question....

I have you heard of this problem. I do not know what to say?
same problem
Are you running the AVG antivirus for Android? I know that AVG flags Superuser as potentally malicious.

No.
Again, there is no indication of what's causing it.
I have got the same message once now on my dinc running CM 7.1 when integrating an update into the system rom. Anyone else have super manager installed? I have gotten other messages simular to this from it.
Running CM6 on a N1 .. I got this message when integrating system apps into the system memory using Titanium Backup. Probably nothing to worry about.
I had the same problem on another device, running Froyo, whenever I tried to update ES File Explorer from Market.
I noticed that, on the previous day, I had just installed an app called "Smart app protector", which lets you prevent some applications from being run by unwanted users, by forcing you to enter a PIN or draw a lock pattern before using the apps to set it up for.
Well, I uninstalled that application and everthing began to run fine again, and I had never seen the "#superuser may be malicious" message again.
Maybe this is your problem too.
Sounds like a new internet meme. "Superuser. May be malicious." I can see the pictures now. *has a vision*

What browser are you using? Have you downloaded any apps with your browser? I seem to remember having the same, maybe when I was using Xscope.....

You know, I got those same things. I didn't think twice and just deleted them. I wonder. . .
lol those are leftovers from downloading through any browser. i get those in my downloads folder whenever i downloading something through my phone's internet. You will know when you get the official OTA. nothing will happen to your phone unless you get the pop-up saying there is an OTA available and ask if you would like to download and install it.
Just using the stock browser, have not downloaded anything in quite a while, defanitly not on the 30th?
I though about deleting them but figured i'd ask, besides if they were cache'd data from a browser download why would they be packaged?
Not saying i have something but just found it peculiar they are all packaged and in the root cache where a ota would show up right?
Looks like one is missing ?
OTA doesnt download anything until you approve it.

I believe it actually downloads the OTA and stores in cache before it prompts you. Don't quote me though, I've been wrong before lol

i did the 2.0.1 to 2.1 update on my wife's droid, it didnt download anything until after you approved to do the update. you can also see with the EVO froyo updates, it asks if you want to update over 4g/mobile/wifi or just wifi.
I had no idea what it was but I though maybe they were incrementally pushing pieces or something, I'm new to android, I figured it would probably be nothing but didnt want to delete something that could help someone.
If you think about it, if they pushed a few small pieces to your cache and the the last piece could parse it all and install it wouldnt that save alot of bandwidth for them? or at least even the load? Thats what made me ponder what it was. I'm sure its not browser cache or it wouldnt be a .apk it would probably be a sql db wouldnt it?
I tried to copy them to the root of my sd card but it wouldnt let me for whatever reasonthrough root explorer. maybe i'll copy them out over adb and extract the .apk just to see whats in it, That should tell me.
Anyway figured some other insight would be nice.

I thought someone from Unrevoked said on twitter to the evo users if you get the ota message to upgrade dont do it and the upgrade file would be stored it the root cache? heck iono i've slept since then.
I believe those are failed or canceled .apk downloads.
Why don't you just copy them to your pc and take a peak inside the apk with 7zip?

Hi guys, first I am really happy to see a DEFY section in XDA !
Well, there are many apps in Tmo(usa) defy, I have rooted it by using Z4 root.
Can anyone show a list of useless apps that I can safely remove ?
Thx a lot!
Here's a screen cap of my removed apps folder. I've had no problems at all since removing all these apps.

If anyone knew what all of them did that would be excellent. Not sure I'd want to remove 'Browser' before knowing what exactly it is it browses.
Damn that's alot!!
Thanx for the list. I would like to clean up as well, but like to first know what certain packages do, especially as I have not seen them popping up anywhere:
ArcPhotoworkshop
ArcVideoEditor
esmusica
This Kodak Perfect Touch thingy
hiphopofficial
revolver
truecountry
Is there a good way to find out which packages depend on other packages and/or services ?
all of them - use asop 2.2 custom rom

How to reinstall them?
If I uninstalled them via Titanium backup. I made a backup before uninstalling them but if I try to reinstall for example: Wi fi calling.apk via titanium backup nothing happens.
I already wiped the phone but the apps are not there anymore. How can I restore them?

can you tell us how you removed all those apps once the phone is rooted? Can't seem to find anything on removing the bloat... just lists of what people have removed.
Thanks

I thought I had it figured out but alas I still stomped.
You'll need to install a File manager that can access root directories and then delete the APKs using that.
The most popular one is Root Explorer. Try searching for it in Market.
How do I reinstall this app? Uninstalled it and trying to reinstall it but it wont install

Any luck with that yet? I am in a similar situation. I flashed CM10 but miss the stock alarm clock. I am currently using Alarm Clock Xtreme from the play market which is the closest I have found so far.
Trying...
I am new to this so I have been trying to teach myself as I go. This is what I have done so far:
1) I managed to get the .apk and .odex from stock.
2) Copied them to the system/media folder
3) Matched the permissions on them both in ES File explorer.
4) Moved them to system/app
4) Restart device
This is still not working and will not install. I feel like I am either missing a crucial step (most likely) or it is not compatible.

If it's a Samsung touchwiz app it won't work for aosp roms, without some modification to the app itself, it's not compatible.
I recently disabled this service on my stock JB device. I took a look at the OS logcat file and was concerned seeing approx 100 errors every few seconds. Attached is a sample, which repeated along with lots of other mystery errors. Anyone know what it means? There were no signs of trouble using the phone, but seemed excessive. I had tried the widget once a few weeks ago, then removed it. No alarms were set. Am I over reacting? What does it mean?
Sorry for the html tags. Also attached link to full log file if anyone has any insight into this or the other errors constantly thrown. Is this normal?
Thanks!

This looks like it requires some hardcore reprogramming which unfortunately is beyond my capabilities at the moment. I am self teaching myself this stuff as I go and have minimal programming experience right now. Coming from TW to an ASOP rom can be tricky from what I have been reading.
Hi all. Yesterday I installed my first custom firmware -- xelite gamer. . Really impressed with the performance of it over the stock Rom. . However I have 1 issue with it that I'm sure can be resolved... Root apps seem to lose their root permissions after a set period (about 15-20 minutes).. Then they have to reauthenticate their root permissions which is causing problems.. For example setxperia goes back to the default non-overclocked profile.. Gamekeyboard seems to stop working altogether until I tab to it and then back to the game.
How can I change (increase) the timeout value, or even make it unlimited???
Thanks for your help!

when you enter first time in app that need root, it'll ask you for permission and there is box that can be chacked, something like this "ask me again in 15 minutes" Just make sure that you didn't chacked that box and root time should be unlimited.

I uninstalled some of my root apps and reinstalled so I could check this.... Mine looks different:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So anybody else have another suggestion?
It's like, it remembers that they have root and never asks me again, but it also keeps re-authenticating every 15 minutes. There's got to be a setting. In my past experience with Desktop Linux, there was a way to change the sudo timeout so I wouldn't have to keep typing the password after the sudo command... This is pretty much the same thing.
Anybody?
Hm... Well since nobody knows, I just decided to install a different ROM. Still just as fast and no problems with the timeout there. If I ever figure it out I'll come back and post the answer in this thread in case anybody needs to know in the future.
Possible reasons:
-outdated busybox: install busybox installer from play store
-older su binary: from within Superuser app, update your su binary
Are you maybe using Doomlord kernel?
Or you can switch to SuperSU and see if it's working properly

Hm, no I was using Lupus Kernel. But I've switched to a different ROM. If I ever go back to the other one though (xelite gamer), I'll give it a try. Thanks!

just select "Do not show next time" and allow it...You won't be bothered anymore...Although i am not sure why is the app asking for permission...Have u denied any permission to the app or sumthin coz it should not ask u to grant permission for this...
I tried all the combinations and nothing changed. Still popping up. Same happens when Im taking picture with Facebook messenger, every time asks me if it can use the camera.
That's weird, I've never seen that before on my phone. Is that a built in Android thing or is it one of the Asus bloatware apps?

Perhaps its that antivirus that Asus included. I uninstalled that right away, as it let me do so.
What antivirus?! I didnt install any of that crap. I found that this happens on zenfone 5 and there is a fix for that.
EDIT. What is the latest firmware? System update tells me is the latest version installed but I thing it isnt.
EDIT 2. Yep there is a newer version available. Ill try to install it and see if its happening again
