[Q] Stock email - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an EVO. Its basically is just the stock over the air rooted (android 2.3.3). The main thing that I have had issue with is only being able to have 1 exchange account. I have been told that apparently that is just an HTC thing and the stock android allows for multiple.
I have read through and search the forums for how to get the stock email app installed. It seems like everything is either to old or something and download links are not working, etc. I saw one post that said just get the app from another rom and install it.
So I downloaded the stock deodexed rom from the Nexus S (which I no is stock). And pulled the email.apk from it. Transferred it to my evo and tried to install and got the error "application not installed".
So I found things saying to try and remove the app that was already on the phone. So I used root uninstaller and uninstalled the mail app from the phone (the HTC one not gmail.apk)
But I get the same error. I tried, replacing the email.apk on the rom that I used with the email.apk from the stock rom and load the rom, but the rom wouldn't load.
Does anyone have any ideas or help they might be able to give me, or possibly any other way to get multiple exchange accounts working on the evo?

It looks like your only option is Enhanced Email from the Market ($9.99)
OR set up one of your accounts as IMAP

Advanced email is using your existing stock apps and a good solution
Better is to use k9 mail with more options and a multi user solution.

Like the new client, but sometimes the display pics of the email senders don't load! I have to reopen the email and it is only then the display pics are shown! Irritating me no ends.
install fail here.
Yep, installation unsuccessful too on LeeDroid 2.1
isnt it on the market?
or is that vanilla roms only..
leedrooi 2.0c here install fail here.. i guess its time to move on the leedroid 2.1
I think we'll have to remove the original Gmail app to install this on custom roms, not sure how we do that tho.
It's on the Market for HTC 2.2, and installs right-on just fine.

Good clean install here too.
I too couldn't install the this so I used this flashable .zip file to install.

Works fine on Pinky Sense 1.8.

you need to uninstall the previous gmail before installing this
either through using adb or titanium to remove the previous gmail
I just used THIS guide to remove teh stock Gmail app and install the new one from Market.

Too bad I couldn't do the same for Google Search. Installation from Market just fails now.
Haven't had any issues with updating or using the update. All's fine
Hmm, 3.73MB, that poor Desire internal memory
If you use the original GMail app you can install without any problem. Most custom ROMs that update GMail use a package that can't be upgraded directly.

Don't update, use HTC's email client instead and add the google account, a much better solution imo
HTC's email client is superior in every way.
The problem arrises when you already have an exchange account and in this case you need to define your google account as a POP3 one, thus loosing push capabilities.

I switched from HTC client to gmail app to get the emails pushed to phone instantly.
Ok, well then you'll need the gmail app after all...
As I only use Gmail on my phone it's always in use, update works fine on stock ROM and is a welcome update

[Q] GMAIL in the Market

Hey everyone.
Is there anything that needs to be done on the phone side to get the new gmail app from the market. I am running SR 3.0 RC3. The app will download but when it tries to install it says Install Unsuccessful.
Any Ideas,
Mark
try removing your current gmail apk from your system/app folder, then install.
Download titanium backup, uninstall your existing gmail app, reboot your device then download the new gmail from the market.
If you are running the sense version, there is a SR 3.2 RC3 update in rom manager that you can flash over your current install and updates the gmail. This is also detailed in the skyraider thread. I'd search the skyraider threads before starting new ones because if you have a question, it's likely somebody has already asked it.
the file in ROM manager says 'corrupt zip file'
I also tried uninstalling from Titanium and installing from the market, neither of them worked.
For anyone who is using the new gmail app is it any good? worth going through the minor trouble? Thanks
gmail
yes its worth it. to me the pictures load instantly, that alone is worthwhile. it annoyed me to have to wait and sometimes double tapp the pic. just do what athenslb57 said 3 posts up its way quicker and so easy a kid could do it.

[Q] [REQUEST] Remove Exchange Policy From Sense Mail.apk On Super-Z Enhanced v4.2

I am trying to figure out how to remove the exchange lock policy (have to enter pin after unlocking phone) for the mail.apk in the SUPER-Z Enhanced V4.2 ROM. I have tried countless methods but none were successful. I know I can do it with other mail.apk's but I want to use the sense one included in the ROM. Any help is appreciated. The original apk is attached.
Thanks
What I Did
I'm not sure what the differences are between mail.apk's but I followed the instructions from the following post and it worked like a champ:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10024521&postcount=293
When you setup the exchange account it still asks you to activate security and set a pin but once you've setup the account you can remove the admin and use pattern lock.
I attached my Mail.apk. It originated from Virtuous 3.2.

Thanks ktdt I will try when I get home. I tried doing something similar but I couldn't get java files to cooperate.

I deleted my old Mail.apk and pushed the one you supplied to /system/app and then rebooted. When I try to open mail in the app drawer it force closes. Every other one I tried to do did the same thing. Any ideas?

Hmmm.... not sure... I've used that same APK with Virtuous, IncrediblyReengineered and Redemptive Revolution with no problems. Every time I flash a new ROM I replace the APK before setting up the Exchange account.
Did you delete your Exchange account (and any POP3's) and/or maybe delete your mail data before removing/replacing the Mail.apk?
No I just deleted mail.apk, I will try that and let you know.

Ok still didn't work and I did the following. Removed my exchange account, not any account setup on POP, IMAP, etc. Then I cleared the cache, data and force stopped, Mail, Mail Widget, Calendar, Calendar Storage, Calendar Sync Adapter and Calendar Widget. Then I used Super Manager to delete Mail.apk form /system/app. I then pushed your supplied Mail.apk to /system/app and then rebooted. Open app drawer try to open Mail and force close. I might just try another ROM with your Mail.apk what do you think?
I changed to Incredibly Re-Engineered and it works now. Must have not liked the ROM I was on. This was more important to me so I made the switch. Thanks for the help.

[Q] app missing from market on GB that was there on froyo

I have the app, hullo mail, and I got the free version a long time ago when I first used a Gingerbread Leak. I eventually went back to EC05 though and kept using it because I like the interface (its a voicemail replacement) and I bought the full version to remove adds. So now I went back to EF02 and the free version is still showing up in the market, but the full version is not. I emailed them and they asked if I was using a custom rom and I told them I was. Their response was:
"Unfortunately this copy protection feature is implemented by Android and we
cannot change it. However, the development team is looking for a new
implementation of copy protection but I am afraid I cannot give any time
schedule for this."
Does anyone know anything about this? I've not backed up the APK, but I was using it on a custom rom under froyo just fine and it showed up in the market then without issue. If I went back to froyo and backed up the apk should it be able to run on GB if I restore it there?
I read in the EG22 thread that the market is filtering out incompatible applications according to the developers specs. You may have run into that issue.
Try clearing the data on your market app and see if that will fix it.

Help restoring stock Email app

I accidentally deleted the stock Email app using Uninstaller. Even though I had found a replacement e-mail app that I prefer, I actually still needed the stock app to register my e-mail address that I'd paired all of my contacts with when I was on Windows Phone.
However, I've had absolutely no luck getting the stock app restored.
When I tried restoring the app from Uninstaller's Recycle Bin, it appeared to work, but starting the app resulted in the app being unable to open, and force closing. After restoring and deleting etc a few more times, I finally said screw it, and deleted it from the recycle bin, to attempt a clean install from an apk.
I've also had little luck finding proper .apk's for the stock email app. The couple that I did find "Could Not Be Installed" or Email Could Not Install or something like that.
How can I fix this? I'd like to avoid reverting to Stock ROM, since I've made some changes I like, and have made progress on a number of games that I don't want to lose.
Or maybe there's just an easier way to get my Contacts info from my Windows Phone e-mail address? That the only reason I need the stock email app back.
Thanks in advance!
