[Q] g-talk video chat? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So someone helped me to get the 2.3.4 gapps for my cm7 setup and told me to install "talk 1.3 installer" to get the latest google talk app with video chat. After I did that the app looked exactly the same and I have no idea how to start a video chat with someone. How do you do it?

Obi Wan, your my only hope!

If you're 'up to date' you get the 'video / camera' icon next to the name (provided they're sitting the same as you or on a computer with appropriate setup.) You initiate and its that easy. If no one is setup for video than you see no icon. Couldnt be any easier.

I am not allowed to post it here but if you google it you will find it. It says Skype Lite Beta but it still works. The only corky thing is when you type the phone has to be sideways.

Skype and Samsung Galaxy S2

I just finished a video call from Colorado to Belarus, talking with a friend there. It worked great, a little lag once in awhile, but I think that was on her end, they have poor internet service, my Tmobile has faster download speeds. I thought if any one was looking for a working video call from your phone to someone that does not have a awesome phone like us, this works, Yahoo sucks, because front camera does not work with it.

Wow, that's awesome! Glad to hear it!
Samsung hercules! !
How exactly do you do video in skype, I have yet to see an option for it, on either the SGS2 or my Tablet that is supposedly supported.
You need to goto settings in Skype and activate video calling. It will say you device is not optimized yet for Skype, but for me it works fine.

Sweet, I saw it this time, but I only have one friend on and he's at work.
I did an hour long Skype video chat with a friend in Mongolia yesterday with my sgs2. It was over wifi and worked very well. The call dropped once but I think it was her crappy mongolian internet at fault.
Since i didnt already own a webcam I can add one more thing to the list of excuses for the wife of why it was OK to spend almost $300 on this beast of a phone

No go for video so far. It's enabled in settings , tried with both 4G and WiFi, nothing. Voice call forks fine. Any suggestions?

Can you describe the problem more clearly? Was the video icon not there? Did the video calls fail to connect? Did the video only work on one side?
Did you try rebooting or restarting Skype?

The video icon was there. If I choose video call option, it connects bu voice call only, the video won't even start.
Same if someone tries to call me.

I ran into that problem, but a restart of Skype or a reboot of the phone fixed it.

[Q] Cm7 gtalk video chat

Is there anyway to get gtalk with video chat working with cm7? I thought there was an apk somewhere in the development thread but I cannot find it via the search function and after perusing through 35 pages I give up.....
Disregard.... of course I found it 2 min after posting this.
Can u post it for those of us who can't seem to find it ? Thanks

I would also like to know which one you are using
I have tried a few and they weren't that good. I was thinking that G+ was suppose to have a feature on mobile to be able to do voice chatting. But I have yet to find that option.

(Req) Google now apk,

Can someone post Google voice and now to see if its run on ics

An article I read a couple days ago said that Now requires you to adb push a couple files over. After that it was supposedly mostly functional.

Post Google Voice?
I know it runs on ICS, I been running it on mine for the last couple of weeks now, installed it via the marketplace, didn't have to do anything besides install it.
It works pretty seamlessly too, text messages/voicemail-transcripts go right to my messaging app, and the voicemail configuration works too (missed calls going to google voice instead of the carriers). And can send/receive text messages thru it as well, and did try calling out of google voice twice.
The OP probably means the new Google voice search that's part of Now, I'm assuming. There's an apk on the SGSII thread that's somewhat functional but I got a parse error trying to install on my G2. Also the voice search doesn't work.

It is a bit buggy but everything works for the most part except voice. The development is moving fast though so hopefully we will have something fully functional soon.
here you can find it.

New Google Hangouts app and GS4

I can't get the new hangouts app installed in my galaxy s4. It says it is already installed, but when I press open, it opens the old talk app. Any thoughts?
We need the new Google play services for it to work.

If u already have google music installed on your phone just go to play market and update the app. The new hangout apk is above with all the other apks if needed!!
I had to install hangouts from my pc

The new hangout sucks!!! Big time!
I need to know the online status of my friend before I send them a message, I do not want to message ppl while they are in the middle of something.
Also, after install Hangout, Google Play Services seem to be a HUGE battery drain!!!

There is a green under their photo that tells you they are online. Also their photos are bolder than people who are offline.

No, there isn't. Not in the Android app at least. The green underline is visible only in the browser version.
To me Hangout is a HUGE step back compared from Talk.
I can't get no notifications at all...

Hey
As someone else mentioned, which is the method i used as well, use your Desktop and go to the google play store, find hangouts and it will let you install, choose your S4 from the devices list, and bam, force-update over Gtalk. You're welcome.
P.S. I suggest you install from the Play Store. Also, notifications work entirely fine for me.
Does anybody know how to delete pictures stored on the gallery from when u send a pic in hangouts it automatically saves them, kinda of annoying. Thanks

The method I used is if you're rooted just uninstall Google Talk w/ Titanium Backup, go into the Play Store and download/install Hangouts.
Just an alternative method from what's been stated.
