which apps shouldn't start up with phone? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What apps shouldn't load when I boot my phone?
And what's a good app to control the startup of different apps?
For example:
I have the following apps that startup with my phone:
- "news & weather" (which I don't even use, ever)
- titanium backup
- google search
- gallery
- market
Why are these apps running even before I need them? Would there be a change in preformance/battery if I stop them from starting up with the system?

[Q] What are your top five essential apps for backup, maintaining your device?

I feel like I've downloaded half of the market in search of a suite of essential apps...lots of options out there.
From the experienced users/developers (and knowing the A7 and its quirks), what would you recommend to create a comprehensive set of apps for backup, cache cleaning/battery saving, file management, uninstalling, etc..?
All responses are appreciated.
1) Root Explorer - for any file operations
2) SystemApp Remover - for software maintenance
3) ConnectBot - better terminal than the one in DevTools
4) System Panel - for monitoring battery killing apps
5) SDrescan - for keeping video and music library up to date
I really don't bother with backing up, I don't reflash often, and when I do it's just a chance to clean up all the garbage apps I really don't need anyway.
Thank you so much...you mentioned several that I haven't used. I'll check them out.
If you did bother with backups, would you use Titanium?
Titanium backup works just fine
Root explorer for file management
File expert for http and ftp file management

[Q] apps not showing in market after move to SD

running CM7 on the HTC desire.
As far as I can tell this is only recent. There are a handful of apps that are installed on my phone that dont seem to show up in the market app.
This seems to be a fairly common problem with the fix being - Settings - applications - all - find market - clear data.
Have tried this twice:
1) clearing the data then checking the market - no joy
2) clearing the data - reboot - check the market - no joy
Is this a known issue with CM7? Or is it relating to having apps moved to the SD card? (the app in question is google maps, although I'm sure there are a couple more just not showing up in the "my apps" section of the market.
Any help much appreciated.
Download Titanium Backup and you can find Market Doctor in it. That should do the job.

[Q] [almost solved] My Play has Alzheimer's (icons and accounts)

Hi guys,
That's my first post on XDA (I lurked around for a pretty long time however). I need some help about a stupid problem I can't get rid of.
Yesterday I did a full and proper factory install of my phone by using SEUS (I'm not very interesting in custom rom - too many gaming issues if you ask me). I did that for two different purposes.
First, I wanted to restart from scratch now I'm familiar with Android. Xperia Play is my first android phone and I believe I made many dirty things customizing it. Also and most important, I underwent a nasty problem I would like to get rid of...
So here it is, fresh install. No problem. I started to clean and customize the the safest way I could by simply moving the useless software components to µSD thanks to /system/app Mover and DroidSail App2SD. I also deleted a few ones with DroidSail SuperAppRemover but always kept their backup, just in case.
Basically, I have a Play with all the bloatware installed and working. Unfortunately the problem I was afraid of came back.

Every time I reboot the phone, two very annoying things happen.
-all icons from app installed on memcard have rearranged [FIXED, see below]
-accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Skype) saved in Settings -> Accounts and Sync (not sure about the translation, I'm french. But you know what I'm talking about) have disappeared except gmail account (?)

It's a huge pain in the you know what because I have many apps AND I often need to reboot for various reasons. I tried to clear data of the Sony Ericsson launcher (Sony Ericsson Homescreen - possibly inaccurate translation again) as seen here but it didn't help. I believe somewhere, something doesn't have the proper reading/writing rights.
I'm using stock rom. I can give you a list of the apk I deleted and list of system apk I turned into user apk if it could help. It must be an issue related to this. (Edit : apparently it's not)
Thanks

Safety rule : use setInstallLocation 2 ONLY for moving an app, then immediately set it back to 0. It sucks, but it works. (at least on Xperia Play)
Try using a different launcher?
I think its just the android bug
But a different launcher should fix it
And custom rom are awesome designed to be more stable and better for gaming alot of lag and poor performance on stock imo but you could allways supercharge

It's been properly working for months when I bought my Play. I'm sure it has somehting to do with something I modified (I am wondering if theses issues didn't appear when I started to mess around with setinstallLocation...).
And what about the accounts ?
I think it's a problem with app2sd.
Some time push notification apps don't work as intended when they're moved to the SD.
That's back when I used the stock rom and had more apps, now I don't have as many apps or a stock rom for that matter.
Sooo best solution? If apps aren't working properly move them back to the internal memory.

Aw come on, it's an Xperia Play. You can move like 10 to the internal memory and it's full. I didn't want to hear that even if I expected it.
By the way, I noticed something... I tried to move the default PS Pocket app back to internal memory, then move its icon. After a reboot, the icon stay in the right place. What's more, I downloaded yongzh's emulators from SlideMe while setInstallLocation was set to 0 (default) and it looks like their icons can be moved wherever I want and stay there... AND these emulators are on the goddamn µSD.
Maybe the problem is having setInstallLocation set to 2 when you install an app (I don't know, maybe it prevents the app from writing something in internal memory), not because the app is on µSD...
Still investigating. I'm not done yet.
Yesterday I switched setInstallLocation back to 0 and install an app from Google Play : no problem moving its icon between reboots.
It seems that it is indeed a problem that occurs if setInstallLocation is set to 2 at the moment you install the app.
So I eventually found how to fix an app that has this problem. I'm sure not every steps are necessary, I'll look deeper into that :
(tested with Angry Birds)
-setInstallLocation back to 0 thanks to ADB (once for all)
-reboot phone
-move app to internal memory
-launch app
-move icon
-launch app
-reboot
-move app to sd
-launch app
Edit 2 : eliminating useless steps
-setInstallLocation back to 0 (thanks to ADB or System CleanUp for example)
-move app(s) to internal memory
-launch app(s)
-move icon(s) (probably not mandatory)
-move app(s) back to SD
-launch app(s)
-reboot (not mandatory, just to check if it worked)
Issue : it works only with apps which can be moved to SD without app2sd... That's a start though.
Edit 3 : found how to fix apps that can be moved only with app2sd
-setInstallLocation back to 0 (thanks to ADB or System CleanUp for example)
-move app(s) to internal memory
-launch app(s)
-move icon(s) (probably not mandatory)
-setInstallLocation 2
-move app(s) back to SD
-DO NOT launch app(s)
-setInstallLocation back to 0
-launch app(s)
-reboot (not mandatory, just to check if it worked)
It may have solved the vanishing accounts issue as well, I didn't check yet.

Nope, it didn't fix that. Apparently it happens because the apps are on SD (as usual...) ; therefore login informations are written on the memcard and cannot be accessed on boot because the memcard is mounted way too late in the process. I tried to move apps back to internal memory, log in and move them to SD but it didn't help. I think there is no solution to this issue, except keeping those apps on internal memory.
I assume the gmail account does not disappear after each reboot because it is "linked" to the Google Play app (not to the Gmail app that I moved to memcard) and I kept this app on internal memory.
If you ask me, the way Android GB handles memory card is really, really rubbish.

Help Request - Optimizing Apps moved to system at boot

Hi, im new to Android and the HTC 10 is my first Android phone.
Im cleaning up and creating my own system rom, as part of this im moving certain application updates to the system partition to maximise space and keep the phone clean - this way i can restore to a fully updates, non bloat ware rom in one step.
However, i have a problem and hope someone can help / advise.
Most out of the box updates have now been integrated successfully, however (and it seems to be random), some cause the phone to show "Optimizing apps" at boot - at first I assumed this was a one off, however its not - its every boot.
Does any one know what causes this and a way to track down which app is stuck causing this "optimizing apps" please? Are there any log files I can refer to?
Many thanks in advance!
This is to be fixed in Android N but it shouldn't happen every boot
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Its not a problem now, but only for specific apps which have had updates moved to system - something must cause it, any ideas?
Ive managed to move all Google apps now to the system partition - i discovered disbling, force stopping and then clearing any app data allowed them to be moved without the "optimizing app" on startup message. The HTC apps dosnt seem to function from system - for example Zoe just fails to run from system.

Interestingly - With Zoe, if i delete the update, fully uninstall from system, download the full package, disable, stop and move back to system it now works fine from system Happy days.

Where are startup apps stored or startup permissions for an app stored [ROOT]?

I have my Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro rooted and have installed file explorer in my phone. I would like to know where are startup apps stored or the granted startup permissions stored for a particular app.
So that I can turn that off by editing the file as most of the apps that manage startup apps close them upon launch which is not a good solution.
So-called startup apps are apps that launches other apps. Do you refer to those?
BTW: These startup apps get started in background at system boot, they listen for BOOT_COMPLETED intent and then perform their tasks.

Startup apps are those which launch at the boot time and thus slowdown the android boot.

Yes they increase CPU & RAM usage.
