[Q] meXperia compatible with UmaroKernel? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
Thinking about testing meXdroidMod meXperia. But I'd like to know if it is compatible with the UmaroKernel?
From what I've read it uses a patched 2.6.35.13 CM Kernel which is what Umaro is based on. But before I break stuff I thought I should ask

yea it should be.... and if you do break something just reflash the rom

[Q] Kernels?

Ok... can someone please tell me what HAVS, CFS and SVS means?
HAVS - no idea
CFS - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Completely_Fair_Scheduler
SVS - no idea
lol... i guess google is my friend
HAVS (Hybrid Adaptive Voltage Scaling) What this does is provide SUPERIOR BATTERY
Really? Anyone else use these kernels? Whats the risk, is it risky like flashing a Radio?

No, only thing is some undervolted kennels might not be stable so always nandroid before changing kernel.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Brill - I have some Nandroid backups, so if anything goes wrong the recovery will still work, and I can restore... excellent. Thought so
AOSP Kernel for SENSE ROM?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#Kernel
here's a link with "all" neccesary informations
--------------------------------------------------------------
i would like to add a new question in this thread:
is it possible to use an AOSP Kernel like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893484
with my SENSE-ROM ? (currently using ReflexTSense http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791315 )
thx
No, at least I know that way. You have to use a Sense kernel with a sense ROM, like this to run without problems.
so there's no option to use newer Kernels with Sense-ROM's ..
thx for the information
Sorry to break into your thread, but does it work the other way round? I mean, is it possible to use a Sense kernel with an AOSP rom?
sense with asop and the other way
i tride som ASOP Kernel with my SensHD Rom and it worked "booting
i found a flickerning screen but it worked; i refalashed a sense kernel
i think that the other "Way" should also work with some "issues"
greetings..
ps: i somewhere on thos forum found a discussion between two ROM-Programmers about using ASOP Kernel in Sense roms.
As far as i remember they both found the conclusion that sense-kernel are using differetn Graphicdrivers so that a asop kernel never will run "full" with a sense-rom but the ASOP Kernel COULD be modded in "future"

[Q] Which Kernels are really safe to use with JB leaks?

I have seen to many kernel threads and none of them seems to say that the kernels are safe to use with the JB leaks.
I really don't see why they shouldn't, but I really wanted to be sure.
have anyone used a Franco, faux or similiar present kernel with the new JB leaks from Insert Coin or ARHD?
Do we have to repack them to be fine?
I know that kernel version should not be a problem, but we only have source code for the ICS kernel based in 2.6.X and the new kernel is 3.0.X
So I wanna know real experiences if possible
Thanks,
Santroph.
Hi, i have tried repacking a few of them as im keeping a list up together for the maximus thread but none of the linux 2 kernels have worked yet, will try trips kernel when i get round to it this week but it says no support for sense so probably a no go. I havent seen anything new yet but will keep my post updated as and when (link in my sig) they should work for other jb sense 4+ roms too :good:

ROM-Kernel Compatibilities?

Hi.
I've been playing around again, just trying to learn all about this damn thing.. I might even come around to liking it one day!
But I'm trying to use a different kernel, Have Installed it (boot loops) then I tried Repack the kernel it now works, It Gets 3G but no Wifi, which is slightly annoying.
my uneducated guess thinks that this rom-kernel compatibility probably won't ever work.
ROM - [18-10] [ROM] CyanogenMod 10 - Endeavor Unleashed | 019 (latest)
(old) Kernel - Latest 3.1.10 (022A)
(new) Kernel - [KERNEL][SEP.30][AOSP]Bricked-Kernel|2.6.39.4|v0.7|Sweep2Wake|mpdecision|PowerHA L
But yeah, tl;dr wanting to change kernel, to another custom kernel and the Wifi doesn't work, even after the kernel being repacked.
Should I just switch ROMs to CM10 Nightlies? As I'm sure those work correctly. Anyone with a better suggestion? Hopefully have posted enough information to not look like an Idiot :S

[Q] AOKP kernel help please

Just a quick question because im not familiar with terms used.
i installed Official AOKP JB M1 on my ATT S3
will this kernel work with it or brick my phone?
AOSP JELLYBEAN: Download CWM flashable zip kernel
i dont know when to use the touchwiz jb or aosp jb version please help
Not to sure about the question here. Is that the ROM you flashed? Or the kernel? You always have the potential of bricking your phone flashing anything to it. I know this from experience!! Make a nandroid backup through recovery an flash what you want. I am currently using AOKP by task650 and ktoonsez, accompanied by the KT747 kernel. Cant go wrong with that setup!!! Hope this helped.
Same as above, don't really know what you're asking. If you are wanting to install the KT747 Kernel (by the sounds of it), then you would need to install the AOSP version after installing the rom (flash in recovery). Sorry I can't help you much, didn't really understand the question.
I highly suggest you do a little research before flashing anything else to your device. If you don't know what something is or does, don't flash it until you do. You dont need it. Unless you would like to brick your device.

Just for your information aokp(android open kang project) uses the same kernel as aosp(android open source project). If you are unsure about flashing kernels then by all means don't flash it until you do a little research about it, usually when installing a new kernel you should...
1install ROM from clean wipe(wipe caches,system)
2install kernel
3wipe caches, davlik cache, and fix permissions after you install kernel.
You should be fine after following these instructions.
Now if you plan on tweaker your systems performance via ktweaker read this before as it explains undervolting and the effects it has on your phone.

If after reading this you think you understand a little bit more. Reply if you would like some stable settings for ktweaker.

[Q] Can Any Kernel Work With Any Rom?

Hi I am new to rom and kernel flashing, and I am interested in flashing the ElementalX 1.1 kernel on AOKP. I love AOKP, and I am way interested in the swipe-to-wake and double-tap-to-wake features of ElementalX 1.1.
What kinds of things do I need to know about compatibility between kernels and Roms? Can you typically use any kernel with any rom?
Loving the Nexus experience and looking forward to learning more!
They often can but not always.
Android versions need to match.
Usually you can flash any kernel on any ROMs but if its a CM based ROM and you flash a custom kernel then slimport features sometimes don't work or some times you flash a custom kernel then the boot animation gets cut and turns black it doesn't really matter I have done lots of flashing and I would say that every kernel can be a flashed with any ROM without problems I am currently on CM kang and using kernel elemental x and everything runs smooth..hope this help click thankksss
Don't just slap any kernel to your device you might seriously brick it.....learned this lesson when I had an Atrix4G.....

Nexus devices are different then the Atrix4G. You can not seriously brick it by flashing an incompatible kernel. Even having no kernel will not prevent you from accessing the bootloader and recovery.
