hy developers as we all know arc does not have the zoom function in 8MP picture capturing and in HD video recording
and its not pause the video while recording i mean there was no pause video option while recording
please can you modify the arc camera settings for these two things for 2.3.3
thanks for your time

Agreed, much better too take a shot then zoom in afterwards, less chance of blur etc
you are not right nokia n8 has a perfect digital zoom at video recording !!!! no blur!! very clear image!!!!
@mikemilos
Nothing can compare to optical zoom. Another point to note is that the N8 has a larger sensor and better optics. That's still the top dog when it comes to phone cameras.

The new Update sony ericsson is releasing for Xperia arc introduces Camera Zoom/Photo Zoom up to 2.62x i think. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199597 for more information
Zoom funtion is working on new 4.0.A.2.368 but as stated above it is really blurred (and don't work in video mode).
Digital zoom is crap.
It's just taking the pixels in the middle (the zoomed area) and blowing them up.
You can't beat physics.

This has been annoying me from the very first time I used the HTC Desire's camcorder. While being able to focus before recording, it will not autofocus or let you tap-to-focus while recording.
Is there anything we can do with this? I mean, it can't be that hard to enable autofocus while recording?
I'm fairly sure there isn't. It's quite irritating but it's similar to other phones like the iPhone or even those little Flip cameras.

The iPhone can do it, at least the iPhone 4. That's why I'm interested in doing this on my HTC Desire as well. My two-year-old Sony Ericsson phone can autofocus while video recording, and my 2010 HTC Desire can't? It's weird. But like, would it be very hard to make a mod enabling exactly this? I mean, before video recording, you can focus anywhere on the screen, so in theory it should be possible to enable autofocus or tap-to-focus WHILE video recording.

Ther is applicatin in market that enabe autofocus while video recording, but it records is in pretty poor resolution and at 800x600 very slow. I think app is called camera illusion, or sld...
I was wondering how close you need to be to the subject to get a good quality 1080p video? Is the digital zoom any good I guess is what I am trying to find out.

No. Not at all. The picture gets horrible. But the pinch to zoom thing is still sweet, and I use it sometimes.
Light is the most important on any video the more light youhave the less the cam has to amp up iso and gain whitch makes it noisy .i dont think video has zoom or anti shake.
Edit only 1080 p has no zoom others have digital zoom not optical ,

Yes 1080 is not as good as I wad expecting. No zoom. I'd rather record in 720 so I can zoom. Still a really good camera/camcorder.

hello
Is there any way to improve the camera's zoom?
it can improve a rom?
photos are very nice but the zoom is not clear and very weak
B.R.
Dont think there is a way to do that. If you want good zoom probaly better off with a actual camera

The short answer is no. Your phones camera, like most smartphone cameras only has digital zoom. This is essentially the same as cropping an image using photoshop or some other photo editing software.
If you want to be able to zoom and have crisp photos, the only option is to buy a camera with OPTICAL zoom.
As a rule I have found you are much better off ignoring zoom on your camera completely, and editing it later on, and if you do use the digital zoom feature, use as little magnification as possible.
Any software updates/changes could the algorithm slightly, and in my opinion, it rarely makes much difference, and being Sony has a digital camera/SLR arm (they also bought Minolta a while back), I would suspect they have tweaked for quality already.
I ask because I previously used the desire hd and there was a very good zoom

DHD camera is not as good as arc in the first place, and the zooming function make it worse..
I had a DHD with 2.3.4 rom and zoom was very good and clear
Take the photo and zoom afterwards with a pc or an app if zhe zoom of the cam isn't good enough for you.
Arc has the BEST camera on a mobile phone...

I agree that digital zoom is not as good as optical but it has its used on the Xperia ARC. You will actually get me details zooming in than taking a full size picture which you enlarge later on.
Try the following to test this, it will only work on motives close by. Place a book 1-2 meters away from you. Take a full size picture and then take a one where you zoom in on the book. You will actually be able to read the text on the book on the zoomed picture while the enlarged full size picture will show the book as pixelated and it is difficult to read the text.
There is no difference on motives far away between the zoomed picture and enlarged full picture.
I am not sure why the objects close by contain more details when zooming than enlarging a full picture. My best guess would be that SE has some logic buildin on the photo chip that on the zoomed picture correlate pixel readings on the sensor and not just cropping and enlarging the final picture.
Please let me know if you experience the same, I am very puzzled that the zoomed picture for objectives close to the camera contain more details than the full size picture.
Hello,
is there any way to lock the focus when recording a video with the stock camera app?
In my experience I get a lot of focus hunting while recording video and just makes it not usable, otherwise the quality and image stabilization is superb.
Any third party app that would use the same image stabilization and lock focus would also be ok, but I dont think there is such a thing...
Thank you.
Someone found a way to use depth cam as normal cam that took 13mp image https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...miui-stock-camera-portrait-mode-dual-t3816069
now, can we use this knowledge to create or mod a camera app to take 3d picture/video?
theoretically, the easiest way should be simply allowing both camera to take photo / record video simultaneously. This will allow very easy post on a computer to merge them into one 3d picture or 3d video.
or as a workaround, maybe.. simply open https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...miui-stock-camera-portrait-mode-dual-t3816069 AND google camera on split-view, and initiate recording/take a pic?
i cant test it as im still waiting 100 hours left for unlock.
thankyou
It's no use because of interpolation. Our depth cam is 5MPx, so if there is a real way to shat 3D pictures they will be half-blured because the 5mpx picture will be expanded to match 13mpx.

the reverse should work then, 13mpx scaled to 5mpx
