Quick questions for those with the Defender. Did you guys remove the protective film that comes with it and use your own screen protector? I have one coming in a few days and I already have the Zagg screen protector on it, even though it starting to just get dirty all the time. I read a lot of people have to use baby powder/talcum powder on the built in protector to get rid of bubbles. Any help is greatly appreciated.
the built in protector doesnt have bubbles. it isnt sticky it just says on the otter box... no adhesive to phone side at all... its atually quite nice and makes the screen look more matte than glossy which i prefer

I hate all the built in protectors, I always rip them off. Zagg isn't the best wet imho, but it is better than the built in protector.

Thought no one else would chime in, thanks for the response.
I bought a zagg and a tpu case to hold me over until I could get my hands on a defender. Now I've.been using zaggs for quite sometime now they are soso. This is my first otterbox defender and i love the built in one better than my zagg...I hate the feel of zagg after its been on there awhile.

i've got the zagg screen protector under my ballistic case. You can tell it doesn't quite look right, but i can't afford another phone so i'll take knowing its protected. I have a friend that has the otterbox defender and he's doing exactly what you're asking about it. His phone works great.

What do you guys think is the best screen protector for this phone? I have been looking on Amazon and they have been getting bad reviews on them.I ordered a mirrored one and that was a terrible middle because I couldn't see anything if there was any sunlight on the device. Any screen protectors like the Apple one where it is anti fingerprint? I'm thinking of trying the Zagg screen protector but I use Swype a lot and don't like my finger sticking to the screen.

I just received my ZAGG screen protector in the mail today. I'll let you know what I think once I put it on. My buddy has one on his IPhone, and I liked it because my finger DID NOT stick when I was sliding it around. I have seen other screen protectors that made my finger stick.
I've had a Zagg on my iPad, iPhone, Fascinate, Thunderbolt, Galaxy Tab, Galaxy 10.1 and now my Hercules. My finger has stuck to the screen exactly 0 times in the 2 years I've been using them and I've used Swype with every one of those devices.
I also prefer ZAGG's invisible shield. I had one on my Glacier and loved it so I grabbed one for my S II. You can usually find them several dollars cheaper on ebay or amazon.
I only use the screen protectors by ZAGG, but if you get a full kit, remember that you might run into fitment issues with tight-fitting cases. A full shield and a case seems redundant to me, anyway.
Zagg Invisi shield is definitely the way to go. I would just take your phone to the mall and have them apply with the wet method instead of the dry ones you can buy in store. They are the best and once you pay full price you can always get any side replaced for only 5$ :]
Personally I prefer the reallook screen protectors. They are a dry application, but have had awesome success with them. Only issue will be if you have the d30 case. But most screen protectors have issues with this case.

I tried one of those first on my Thunderbolt. It was really nice... Until it spent a ride in my pocket with my keys for a couple hours. It got pretty scratched up. I also have a pretty oily face and the Zagg hides that and the fingerprints a lot better than the SGP. When it's new though, that SGP is great.
I just ordered an Xtremeguard full-body kit off of ebay for $5 with free shipping. They are supposed to be direct competitors to Zagg from the looks of their ad but I don't have any experience with them so when I get it, I will get back to you.
I am not really worried about the screen as it's gorilla glass and that stuff is tough! I already have a Diztronic TPU case on my phone and just wanted a "apply and forget" screen protector that will lessen my OCDness with the screen (despite it being so tough).
anyone have a preferred screen protector with the 3DO case? i'm trying to find one that doesn't mess up with this case, lasts, and doesn't show all the oily fingerprints

I don't think you did it right i thought the squeege was scratching the screen protector. Cause it had a whole bunch of scratches on it. When trying to get the bubbles out. I removed the scratched up screen protector. Then underneath was the screen protector on perfectly. I even applied keys to it it didn't scratch up.

For those of you with the Zagg screen protector, does it tend to bubble around the edges when used in conjunction with a tpu/d30 case?
Considering getting one myself, but this would be the deal breaker

+1 this.
i'm getting the d30 case and want to make sure it doesn't bubble up like my Zagg on the iPhone 4 with an Apple border on it

The d30 is extremely tight on the edges. Just about any sp will suffer.

If you miss with the case, does it cause bubbles? Or are the corners on top of the Zagg?

Seem like a good idea? the OB screen protector seems to fit snugly, but I was thinking I should remove that and just have the Zagg InvisibleShield coming through, I do like the texture of that anyway...
Update, just removed OB's preinstalled screen protector, and it feels great.

I did the same with my Trident Cyclops and got to say its better this way. Zagg shield with Cyclops case = great protection
I've never liked the zagg's, they feel so sticky. I like the smoother covers that feel like they aren't there.

+1, feels like someone sneezed, blew their nose, and then smeared it all over the Zagg covers!
Didn't like OB screen protector, think I used it for a minute. Wanna try the invisible shield. Is Zagg the ones sold at mall kiosks? Do they install for you? Can never seem to get all bubbles out.. Or just don't have the patience heh.
With a harder plastic sheet style protector as opposed to the zagg /bodyguardz style soft film its a lot easier to get it perfect

The EVO is built with gorilla glass. I modified my otterbox and other cases and removed my zagg over a year ago, and not one scratch. The screen is tough, try it out. You can remove the zagg and place in wax paper to send off for replacement later if you change your mind.

Your combo
seems like a good idea... although it is rather expensive nothing will happen to your phone
I have had the OB's built in screen on the the whole time that i have had my EVO. Zero Complaints!
Hey everyone!
One of the cases that I'm considering for my GS3 is the Otter Box Defender. I know that it has a built in screen protector, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the quality of the built in screen protector is like? ie, clear, glossy, matte, scratch and fingerprint resistant, absolute crap, etc...? Does anyone have the Defender and use a different screen protector with it? The more information, the better. Thanks!
The feel of it as they have always been more like a clear glossier plastic. Its not Matte or smudge proof thats for sure. Is it the best screen protector out? Most certainly not, but its not really meant to be removed but doesnt mean you can rip it off cause i have done so with other phones I had. Mostly because I have always been a big supporter and user of the ZAGG Protectors which in my opinion are the best in terms of quality and build. But you really dont want to have a screen protector on and then use the otterbox with the added screen protector. Two to me is too many and can cause some interference with touch controls. I know there is prolly a million people on here that will say otherwise and they have done it without issues just my honest opinion when i had one on phone then used otterbox case with attached protector as well I hated it. The touch for me was way off. But if you dont end up liking it just get you a good screen protector and then when you buy the defender just pop off the one that comes with it. No worries.
I just got the Defender last week for GS3 and Love it! Its an amazing case and love the holster. I always end up buying one of these cases for my phones cause they just LAST.
Cheers!:highfive:
Case is good but the screen protector makes everything pixilated. Really hard to get past for me. So I tore out the screen protector and had a zagg hd put on. Works out well.

It, sux it makes the screen look grainy, i sold it and got the commuter instead, i just bought the defender because the screen protector, and since it sux i rather have the bit slimmer commuter.
I love the commuter btw.
I took the screen protector out also. Don't let that be what steers you away from the defender. The case is awesome, the product support is awesome. I keep thinking about getting a stick on protector but haven't yet. I use the holster so the screen is protected by that most of the time. I have scratched and scuffed the outer rubber of the case however. I emailed otter support asking if I could buy replacement outers in the future and explained that I scratched the case... No defect of the product. They asked for pictures and the next thing I know I have an invoice in my email... They are sending me a whole new replacement! You can't beat that service.
Got the Black Defender and the screen protector is utter crap. Invested in a ZAGG HD and never looked back.
The quality of the built-in screen on the Defender made everything look so blurry and pixelated.

Yea, I agree with the replies, it does make the screen look ugly, but it's good protection for your phone, I work construction, so I didn't take it off

Disagree - it's not good protection, in fact is bad for it.
Buddy of mine had a defender for his phone before. Over time dust, grit and what have you worked it's way in between the otter screen guard and the screen itself. Then everytime you touch it has the same effect as rubbing sandpaper on your screen. His got murdered from it.
You need a screen protector that adheres to the screen itself to prevent fine grains of dust, dirt, sand or what have you from turning it into a piece of sandpaper every time you touch it.
After seeing the destruction wrought on his screen, was in the defender from day one, and now owning a defender myself, I fully understand why the most common mod to the case is to take an Xacto knife and cut the screen guard out.
Do that and use a quality shield on the screen, you will be very happy you did.
^ I usually take my case off every other week to clean it, and I was surprised to see that barly any dust got in at all, the only places I saw was around the top where the little hole is at and around the camera/flash /speaker área , maybe his case was defective? Over all I'm impressed to see how clean my phone is every time I take off the case.

I just bought this exact color case and only used the stock screen protector for 30 seconds before I decided I hated it. Otterbox made a great case but put an absolutely horrible piece of plastic over it. I popped the stock crap plastic out and am currently using a Spigen crystal curved screen protector ($15). It is excellent, easy to install and it covers 100% of the front face, from edge to edge. It also installs back into the defender without any issue at all and feels great, like there is nothing but the oem glass under your fingers.

yeah that's why I want to get a screen protector before the case gets here because I know the screen protector on it will be junk. i was thinking of going with a glass screen protector, but idk how it would fit with the otter box.
Hey guys sorry for asking a noob question but what screen protector would you recommend for the s3 and way?
Im looking for a thicker screen protector... But any suggestions would be great thank you

Personally, I don't recommend it. I've had mine since launch, only a tpu case, and not a sing scratch on my screen. Though if you wanted one, the invisishields are good, but I personally don't like how they feel.
Oh ok ...cause I got the otter box defender case ..but I like having the extra protection lol

Lol, another thing i [personally] don't like...I don't need at case 5x bigger than my phone, lol. But to each their own.
Amazon got lots of protectors
Just order my screen protector a must since I don't want my screen to scratch.
I personally like the matte type because its anti finger print smooth like satin but it does take away glare and dull screens which is fine for me.
Here a link for all types glossy and matte
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...otector&sprefix=samsung+galaxy+s3+scr,aps,225
I personally purchased this one hopes it fits well and lives up to the hype...

keyword is lifetime lol...

I usually don't like Zagg screen protectors, but decided to get the new Zagg HD screen protector. Doesn't have that off colored glare as the original ones did and also has lifetime guarantee. Also doesn't leave finger smudges like regular screen protectors either.
