Hey everyone,
Can anyone tell me if they've experienced this problem too please. I keep losing one particular contact on my HTC Desire. Once I've saved the contact to the phone, it could be there for a day or for 5 days before the cantact is deleted on its own accord!
Any ideas???
Many thanks.
does the record contain special characters? google sync doesn't seem to be able to handle these

Nope, nothing mate, just a plain old name and a phone number.
When you save it, try saving it as a google contact, then sync it. I had that problem till I did this.

I was set in Google Contact and my Contact still deleted from my Contact
How to fix it?
Try adding it on your PC (in Gmail, via browser). I know it's not really a fix, nor it helps you understand what's going on, or prevent it happen with another contact but ... it's worth trying.
Its actually losing any new contact now. I saved a new one last Saturday, and now its "lost" it already! :-(
I had this problem on stock orange Rom.
Have had no problems since I rooted.
Guys, it seems to happen to any new contact. Any idea why this is happening? I'm not even close to the maximum number of contacts.
Anyone else have this issue too?
I had this issue with my Hero, that it would delete the second phone number I added to a contact, everytime I synced.
I got around this by changing the sync options to "replace item on PC" in the conflicts section, and it worked.
It seems for some reason the sync kept thinking the new data in the phone somehow is the older one or someting.
Give it a go and tell us what happened.
But this isn't even happening when I sync mate! :-( It just doing it randomly, any new contact I add.
Guys, was just checking System Updates on my phone, and Software 1.21.405.2 was available. I've just downloaded and installed it, was looking through me phone including my messages and noticed its added one of my missing contacts!!! :-D Hopefully was bug has been fixed!!!
I had a similar issue a few days ago - I added a couple of contacts to one of the default 'Groups' (Family, Friends etc).
Once added they disappeared from my contacts list on the handset. I moved over to the 'Call History' panel and found them, and switched the group option back off. But they were still not showing in my contacts. I thought they'd been deleted.
I jumped into G-Mail Contacts on the PC and found that they were still in the 'All Contacts' list, but had been taken out of the 'My Contacts' list.
By selecting each contact, and clicking the large 'Move To My Contacts' button on the top bar, they instantly reappeared back on the phone again.
Hope this makes sense and stops anyone wasting time trying putting the contact info back in again.
All this happened before the latest 1.21.405.2 - maybe this has been fixed though.

This is why I suggested adding a contact in Gmail. If you have problems with Google apps (gmail, contacts, calendar) it's allways good to check with the mothership (Google) to see what's going on.

I understand what your saying mate, but I'm a bit of a tart, I'd want all my contacts the same and be on the phone, not as SIM, Google, etc... I know what your saying is an easy fix, but it shouldn't be like that, the phone should bloody manage something simple as remembering a phone number! lol.
Anyways, fixed now, job done.
Yes I have the same problem. I hardly ever sync my phone because I have a Mac. Today my contact of my husband just disappeared, this contact I use the most, has the most details within it.
I know that the new download may fix this, but I use Skype on 3 and I do not know if skype will work after the upgrage. I use Skype to contact my family in South Africa.
Hiyah!
My gf and i both have desires, and love them! Im into the modding side of things and running OD with the cpu at 1.3
The gf's is standard not network specific and recieved the 2.2 update as soon as it came out... problem is that today it deleted all her messages! :/

try the back up option, make sure it is ticked for auto back up! if its not then, well you've lost them.. if it is ticked then there should be an option to bring it all back (sorry cant test my theory myself as I broke my desire).
also, for next time try sync'ing pc, that should also store your texts, or gmail, outlook, or whatever you prefer.
hope this helps! good luck!
There is also a option to delete messages when you reach a certain number I.e. 200 that number could be set low, it is set in the message settings.

I have a very strange bug since downloading and installing the latest OTA update. I'm just running a stock system if you need to know.
Basically after the update I went to messages and some old messages I have are shown as being received from the completely wrong person :S These messages were not originally received on my desire HD but I put them all on it when I got the phone. The original person who sent them is in my contact list and linked with their facebook account and all that. Before the update it was showing the messages as being sent from the correct person.
Is there any way to fix this...it's very frustrating as there are over 50 messages which it has done this for.
I cannot say if it's doing it with new messages as that person is away on holiday so I can't check but messages received on my DHD from them seem to be ok...it's only happened with the messages I transferred onto the phone.
Thanks
Also I've now tried backing up all those messages to my gmail account using the SMS Backup+ app. They appear on my gmail from the original sender, then I deleted them off my phone and restored them using the app but it goes back to being shown as the wrong person (it keeps linking it to the same wrong person). The only details I have of the wrong person are what has been sync'd from facebook. There is no connection between them and the original sender (and I've checked all the contact links).
Also I wanted to try deleting that wrong person and then restoring the messages but I cannot figure out how to delete them off the phone. They are only on the phone because of the facebook contact sync so when I try delete contact it gives me a list of my contacts which they are not on as they're only in the 'people' section. I guess deleting them of facebook would work but I don't want to do that if possible.
Sorry if this is getting confusing.
well, tried to unlink facebook contacts with your contacts ?
I have this problem as well, only happened after the latest update.
I think to rectify this a new update will be released from HTC as this bug was also present on the original Desire phone, and resolved with a update.
Very annoying I agree, lets hope its fixed soon.
Just out of interest which country are you in and which network are you on?
Im in UK and on T-Mobile.

I'm in the UK on o2 but the phone was bought new unlocked.
I even went as far as deleting the person off facebook. The messages then appeared as they should from the original contact but I then re-added that person and as soon as they accepted it linked the messages back to them. Its so strange as these people have nothing to do with each other, their names aren't even similar.

I rectified this problem by conducting a hard reset.
Probably not the news you want to hear, but it solved the problem for me.

Well I thought about it but decided to contact HTC support first. They suggested that I backup all my contacts to my SD card then delete them all off the phone. I really didn't see how this would help since the person being linked to the messages wasn't a 'contact' he was just added to the People app by facebook.
Also another thing I noticed is that on facebook some people choose to put their phone numbers up which get put on the phone when you sync your facebook contacts with the phone. This particular person decided to be clever and instead of putting actual numbers they put things like 'Mobile: I'm not telling you' so the number was saved on the phone as 'I'm not telling you'. I decided to go in and edit these on the phone (cause you can't delete them) to just numbers i.e. '12345' so that none of his numbers were text.
Then in desperation I went and did what HTC recommended, deleting my contacts and restoring them and the problem was fixed!!!!
Unfortunately I can't confirm which of the 2 methods I tried actually work cause I did them without checking to see if they problem had been fixed in between.
So for anyone else with this problem. Check the person who the messages are being linked to, if they have text for their phone numbers, edit them to numbers (any numbers). If this doesn't work go to People>Menu>Import/Export>Export to SD card, then select all the contacts. Then in People go to Menu>Delete>Menu>Select all and confirm. Then restore the contacts by going to People>Menu>Import/Export>Import from SD card and that should do it!!
Ok, so I think I've done something exceptionally stupid.
I updated to 2.3.3 from the HTC developer web site.
Battery life seems good, but it's difficult to tell because I've got a 3500mAh battery.
All seemed good, and I re-installed all apps, and re-synced my contacts (all ok), and I put back all my texts, etc., using SMS Backup+ (all ok). Memory wasn't fantastic, but I had switched off facebook sync and twitter sync for contacts quickly, and thought it was ok. Then All People had LOADS of contacts - when I looked they were Google+ ones. Turned off sync for Google+ and Gmail, went in to Gmail and stopped those Google+ contacts forming part of my Gmail contacts (I think). I couldn't be bothered to delete them - there are hundreds - and even when I tried to delete a few, it didn't give an error message, but would not delete any of the contacts.
This morning, woke up, and all my contacts, phone included are gone.
This update is becoming a nightmare.
So, I have bootloader 1.02.0001, and that is now included in revolutionary and I understand if I am to go anywhere it'll probably be forward to Cyanogen. But someone else said because of the boot version I couldn't
Simple question. Ok, two.
1. Can I somehow now go back to the previous stock HTC Desire rom? (I'm assuming not).
2. Can I go forward with "revolutionary" and the rooting bits, and Cyanogen 7.1.0 ?
Has anyone gone this same route?
(ps. If I've committed the ultimate sin - apart from loading the 2.3.3 rom - and put this in the wrong thread please let me know or ask the mod to move it.

Let us know how you get on. I'd just got up the nerve to root my desire then discovered that having gone to 2.3 makes it more complicated and I bottled it.
All I really want is more app space but think this is the only route to that.

agree with Coempi's reply. revolutionary is pretty straightforward.
however, reading this again, when you say all contacts are gone, including all your google contacts? you shouldnt lose any whatever happens to the phone if they're synced to google. that's rather worrying if that's the case.
I've always found contact management much easier through gmail in a browser. Also a bit of manual sorting works, like groups or "only show contacts with phone numbers" within people.

having gone 2.3 doesn't make it more complicated. just make sure you do plenty of reading.
read through all of the revolutionary wiki for a start, several times
you can get plenty of app space

hah not to worry i read for ages before attempting it, you're much less likely to go wrong this way!
ignore that method, it's the official way, but has it's limitations i believe.
just go with revolutionary (and keep reading ).
Well, it's been rooted (revolutionary).
And I used ROM Manager to put Cyanogenmod 7.1 on. (with Google Apps).
I'm setting it up now. I can't post links yet but if you put Youtube.com on the front of this /watch?v=kvg0i8in96M you'll see the video.
Then I put Cyanogenmod using this one /watch?v=JzjWZ-OsLZ4
Remember to turn fastboot off (in Applications on 2.3.3) on turn debugging on under Development.
It really is quite straightforward.

You can, all he needs is to flash the downgrader and have a goldcard ready, then use the 2.2 WWE RUU.
If it doesn't work the first time it should the second.
I've been looking around this forum ever since I got my phone last year. It's always been helpful. Now, I am looking for more help.
I live in Toronto and my carrier is Rogers. I have the AT&T LG G3 D850 unlocked. I bought it second hand on eBay. The first thing I did when I got it was did a factory reset.
The first problem I noticed when I first got it was that the contacts list duplicated every time I opened it. I think it might be copying the contacts from my SIM card each time I opened the contacts? I don't know. I soon downloaded an app (Contacts+) to call people. Another reason was because every time I opened my contacts, the AT&T address book popped up. It didn't create much problem, but it was a very annoying. I soon just got used to using Contacts+.
The phone hasn't given me much problem since until recently. I realized I had no idea how to update my android version. It is still running 4.4.2. I did a bit of research and the words "rooting" and "flashing" got my head spinning. I tried to understand myself, but I just don't understand how to update my android or if I even can.
The thing that made me realized that this is a problem that I can't live with is my phone calls and text messages are causing problems. It's getting harder to open to my messages. It loads a long time and sometimes freezes. Sam with my calls. Dialing out or receiving causes my phone to freeze up. Sometimes waiting works. Sometimes I need to restart my phone. Sometimes I have to wait a bit to be able to restart my phone. I am getting popups when I browse the internet, so maybe I got a virus? I do have AVG and Avast on my phone though.
Then there are the few more minor things. My camera seems to take lower quality pictures as compared to when I first got it. My screen seems to be getting less responsive and seems to be dimmer. Phone seems to be warmer than before, but that could just be me. Android File Transfer no longer seems to work, but I assume it has something to do with my calls and messages not working.
What I am asking for is some knowledgeable and patient people to help me optimize my phone. I really don't know where to start. Reading newbie tips get me more confused sometimes. Please help. If this is not the place for this, please move it there or please let me know to delete it. Thanks in advance.
For the contacts problem, you can go to contacts > settings > display options > and then select the contacts you want to be displayed so there aren't any duplicates left.
Also installing two antivirus programs will cause malfunctioning on the phone. So if I were you I should uninstall one of them. If it keeps running slow you should factory reset the phone and try again
You should be able to go into software updates and click update device. It should show several firmware updates because 4.4.2 was quite a while ago. Have a look for that option.
There is no need to root in order to update your phone. Just follow these steps and it will do it all automatically.
If you go to settings, and you stock can get the updates, The easiest way to get your phone updated its using a pc and install the LG suite. You will connect the phone and if detected it will pop the updates.
