Is there any ways to stop apps "like lets golf/postcard/mobilebackup/media server/music etc..." from starting every time I get a sms other than having the phone rooted and delete those apps?
oops! I should of posted this in the Q& A forum instead, mods can you move it?

I've just lost track of the threads where they were resolved.
1) LED notifications (for anything) only lasting 5 minutes or so. I want my LED to keep flashing until i unlock the phone and clear the alert/notification. Thats how it was on my G1 on 1.6 and it was great. I'm certain i saw an app that could fix it somewhere, but i cant find the thread, and no searching for relevant seeming names brings anything up.
2) A bunch of unknown texts/network texts/various other oddities all being attributed to a random facebook/phonebook contact. I saw there was at least a partial solution for this somewhere, but once again, lost the thread
Thanks for any help you can give, really appreciate it.
1) Missed Reminder app does the trick.
I use missed call from the market for the alerts.
I think your sms issue is to do with facebook synching contacts that have odd phone numbers, or text where there should be a phone number. if I remember correctly you need to either delete those facebook friends, or stop the facebook contacts sync.
Hi everyone,
Firstly, i HAVE searched the forums and found nothing of use.
So,
I've been exhanging quite alot of SMS over the period I've had my Desire, and now i decided to clean my phone up a bit, by deleting some of my sms messages, but when i press and hold on a thread then choose delete the whole thread, my phone simply freezes and nothing happens. I've rebooted my phone 5 times now and tried again and again, without luck.
Does anybody know how i could handel this diffrently or perhaps im doing something wrong?
Btw, the thread is about 1500 messages on this specific contact that i'm trying to delete.
Thanks in advance!

I've got two suggestions for you...
Option 1
Open the Messaging application
"Menu" key > "Settings" > toggle on "Delete old messages" > tap "Text message limit" and set accordingly.
For example, if you set this value to 50, it will delete all messages older than the 50th most recent messages in each thread.
Option 2
Use a 3rd party application to mass delete your messages. Go to the Market an search for "purge sms". There a lot of choices.
Also you can try to wipe the item relative to sms/mms in titanium backup, which is instantaneous...BUT please make a backup first because I might be wrong and something else could be deleted as well
Sent from an ipho.../ NETWORK DOWN-PLEASE DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE
Thanks guys! I will try!
i also had this problem. the only way to delete my more that 2000 texts in a single thread was to decrease the "delete old messages" limit 50 or 100 mesages at a time (from the total amount of messages I had in that thread) every time I received or sent a message and the freeze was just half a minute (in order the phone to delete just this 50 or 100 more messages). it took me some time to decrease my texts to 200 but now text messages open faster. And I left the limit to 200 as I don't want to have this problem again. I didn't try any other applications so I don't know how well they work. but if i knew of them in advance i would possibly try them
I find this really frustrating. Sure, you can set the amount of how many SMS you want's to be saved, but you should be able to delete SMS as you want. To get a phone that freezes during this moment is kinda fail in my opinion.
I tested purge sms. Same **** there.. But atleast you see how many percentage it has removed
I've seen threads about this on the galaxy S 1 page, and didn't see an answer about this. There is something that has been bugging me. If I text someone, then delete the thread in the messaging app, then go under contacts>History, the whole conversation is right there. Even though I deleted the message thread. I don't want to have to go in contacts, find each person, go to history, then clear it there too. Is there a way to turn this off? I don't want things logged in two different places, and have to clear two different logs every time I want to clean things up... I am not rooted, and running stock rom. (Just got the phone, didn't want to root it just yet.)

Hey guys I am on DN4V2.2 which is more than awsome.I realized the other day that short codes are not working for sms messages. For example I got an email to text redbox 727272 with the message WELCOME for a free movie. When I do it,I get an"unfortunatley, the process com.android.phone has stopped . I am assuming it is blocked both ways because I haven't been receiving starbucks, verizon etc...texts either. I have googled for 3 days now and I can't find any answer that works. One suggestion was to clear data in contacts another was to change permissions in the messaging app to allow premium messaging which the option is not there to change. I came from DS NE5V1 and it was working then. I deleted adfree thinking it may have been the culprit but nothing changed so I replaced it with adaway.Anyone have any ideas?
《Edit》I did just receive a text from 727272 so apparently sms short codes are coming in . I tried to save it as a contact and even though I saved 727272 as a contact when I view it, the phone saved it as 727-272?

More than likely it's due to adaway. To prevent spammy texts. Have you tried removing or disabling it? Usually ad blockers in general disallow them. There may be settings in the app to allow them, I'm not sure as I don't use them. One other thing could be automatic formatting of phone numbers. May need to disable that.
Yea I tried restoring original host and disabling adfree and also adaway. I didn't enable automatic formatting either. It's really puzzling me. Thanks a lot for the help though. If ya think of anything else give me another shout.
I've been switching phones so many times like many of you, lol,
I used SMS backup and restore for non-samsung phones, and smart switch for samsung phones.
From some time ago, SMS got duplicates, so I have like
Me: Hi, meet today?
Me: Hi, meet today?
A: No
A: No
Is there an app or way to safely remove just the duplicates?
thanks for the answer to a random question. lol
