**Warning!** This may or may not delete contacts stored on phone I don't know since I have all mine on google account.
Clearing data from the "contacts" application in settings resets this, and it will prompt you on where you want to store the contact.

Yeah... That's what I went thru and did.
Either that or merge them, but that can complicate.
i had the same problem when i imported my contacts multiple times.
i ended up just reflashing the rom and importing my contacts once.

That's somewhat difficult when you have 50 plus contacts making a total of 200 deletes. I realized I can go to gmail and delete all then just uncheck those I want to keep. Now need to figure out how to delete all on the phone so I can reimport them.

If you have google contact sync set up, they will automatically delete, unless I'm misinterpreting your question

If that doesn't work, you can go to your contacts in google, select all and there's an option to merge duplicates.

[Q] Dialer no longer working

OK I'm not sure what i did but i was removing some unwanted bloatware from my phone now when I click on "phone" and then "contacts" and select one of my contacts nothing happens. It used to display their number, their facebook status, give me an option to message them etc. Now when I click on a contact absolutely nothing happens, it just stays on the screen displaying the long list of contacts. I know that there is info stored in each contact because if i go to messages and click on a name it will display their number and email etc. What's wrong. How can I fix this?

Change default account without wipe?

Is there a way to change the default google account associated with a non-rooted phone? Every time I try to remove the account it tells me that this account is required by some applications and can not be removed. I ultimately want a new account associated with Google Talk on my Samsung Epic 4G.
If there is no other way than a factory reset on a non-rooted phone, is there a easy way to root the phone without wiping my data and then do this?
Thanks for any pointers and links specific to the Epic.

Try going to the settings app> accounts and sync> tap the google one then hit menu soft key and it might give you an option to remove account.

Have you tried adding the new account before removing the old one? No reason you couldn't have 2 Google accounts syncing. I do it now. Once both are going delete the one you no longer want.

Yeah....unfortunately it wont let me delete the one that was entered in first and that is the one that is associated with Google Talk. I need the second one to be associated with GTalk. I get the error when I try to delete the first one.

All of the clear cache or data buttons for GMail seem to be greyed out. Nothing to click there.
Sadly I tried to find this answer once and found there is no way around the reset. However I hope someone has an answer. I don't know about any rooted solutions though.

I think you have to wipe the device if you want to remove the "primary" Google account.
unfortunately mate there is no way around it unless you wipe and start again. ive tried it before entered in my google account instead of spelling it as gmail and couldnt access gtalk due to conflicting user accounts on the phone as the one you enter on first start up is the main account on the phone so master reset is the only way around it.
wish there was a way around it but there isnt iv tried.
try flashing g-apps. If you are on TW backup first. I'm pretty sure this will clear out the account

I was able to do this on my HTC EVO and have it work OK.

If you read the OP, you would see that the phone is NOT ROOTED. Therefore your suggestion would be impossible.

no sync from contacts with go contacts ex app

hello world i have a strange issue with go contacts ex app. since changed from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 (it's not a ROM problem) and i create a new contact in go contact ex app, syncing with google account is no longer possible. i get an error "temporary no sync possible ..." but only on syncing contacts. calendar, emails, pictures and so on work fine.
so it's neccessary to delete contact-storage data and google account manager to fix this problem but after create a new contact this error come back. i found out only with stock app is it possible to create a new contact and sync with google account without problems. modify or delete a contact in go contacts ex app is always possible without a sync error.
have anyone else this problem and if so what is the solution? is there a solution? to fix this behavior temporary i create a new contact in stock app.
i feel so lonely no one else with the same rumble in the jungle?
go contacts
I updated my sensation to 4.0 and how go contacts will not display Facebook contacts and it will only show pictures of contacts stored on phone.
I have exactly the same problem: but it's not clear for me how do you manage to solve it (partially)?
Im having the same problem, but for me I even if i clear contact storage i cannot sync... this is really annoying. Im on SGS3 LTE stock rom with root and cwm recovery

i have the same problem , could it have anything to do with the fact that FB changed everybody's email address to a @facebook.com ?
I had same problem after putting ICS 8.3 , but i used .vcf on my sd card. I just copied contact.apk back on system/app and install it again. And now i have all my contacts back and running
I have the EXACT same problem with the EXACT same workaround on a stock Galaxy S3.
I've tried populating/not populating various contact fields with no luck thinking that it might be some type of corrupt data issue. Anyone know if this is a confirmed problem with Go Contacts Ex?

I too had this problem on a Galaxy S3. Every time I added or removed a contact in Go Contacts it broke the Google contact sync. I replaced Go Contacts with ContApps and the problem went away.

Just use Friendcaster and problem is solved...
Just found this thread via Google. I'm running CyanogenMod 9 on a Samsung Rugby Smart, but I think I found a work-around. I removed the default setting I had applied to Go Contacts, went into the regular contacts, and then went into Sync and manually synced my contacts. I think it worked, but verification would be great.
I have the exact same problem and my solution was to just stop using Go Contacts EX. I tried deleting my google account and readding it, only to find my newest contacts gone. I got tired of trying to figure out why it didn't work and decided I could go without Go Contacts EX. Not the best solution, but at least my contacts sync between my phone and google now.

I'm not sure is it spam or not - please let me know. I've created ad-supported free app that fixes what GO Contacts breaks. It's available in google play: Contacts Sync Fix.

Thanks Nixolay, your app works great! It scanned my contacts and found 2 issues. What exactly is the issue go contacts is making?
Same here
I have just realised today, after about 3 weeks, and after some testing, that Go Contacts Ex breaks my contact syncing for my Google account. Once broken the only way I found to fix it is to uninstall it, remove and then re-add my Gmail account. I like the product but backing up my contacts is more important.

This is an issue well known from go team as it has been reported many time.
I don't understand why they don't fix it.
Many users stop using this nice app just because of this issue

Contacts - Backup & Restore

Ok then! this will sound like a newby question....I'm not really, I swear!!
So I have my lovely rooted Note 8 all set up the way I like it. It's pretty perfect.
During the data transfer from my old phone to new one using Samsung SmartSwitch, every thing went fine without a hitch.
I can no longer use the SmartSwitch app since my phone is rooted now....not changing that.
Somewhere in the process, my contacts got imported into Gmail app. Which I DO NOT want. I usually removing nearly all of Google's apps along with Verizon's as well as Samsung's...I have a policy of uninstalling what I don't want or need or think much of.
However, my contacts are now associated with the Gmail app - if I remove the app, the contacts disappear!!.
I would like to know what is the most current, up to date and trouble means of backing up my contacts, then deleting the Gmail app, then restoring the contacts? Would a Contacts backup and restore in Titanium Root do the trick? is there another, easier or better method?
Thanks for your assistance!
I haven't used it in a long, long time, but I think Mybackup Pro will save/restore contacts. Could take a look at it and see if that does it for you

Yahoo keeps pushing my XDA notifications to spam for some reason. Hope it works for you
1. open contacts app
2. go to Menu icon (upper-right).
3. go to Manage contacts.
4. go to Import/Export contacts.
5. export to SD
