Music playback is stopped at random times. Usually the phone is in my pocket. I thought my headphones were getting unplugged. But it seems to be something else. Has anybody experience this issue?

I've had it happen when streaming music over the air (Pandora or Slacker); I have pretty poor reception in my yard. I have not had any stops/skipping with music I have downloaded to my phone.
I think it does have something to do with the headphone jack. It seems to be a little out of spec. I have like 2 headphone plugs that will stay in securely, while the rest, if twisted, will pop slightly loose, enough to kill playback.

It's a design flaw. Check this thread for more info.
You may need to try a new pair of headphones.
good find gunther lol
i got tired of the app altogether some time ago so i use ZPlayer.
check it out..its pretty dope!
I had the phone sitting on my desk and the music stopped again. There was no way I moved the headphones chord to make it fail. All I noticed was that the the synch notification was displayed on the status bar. Could the playback be stopped by incoming data? Is it even possiblle?
Thanks

Certain notifications will momentarily disrupt media playback, but will not stop it.
The issue with the jack will require pushing the plug back in so that it is reseated properly.
All I have to do is press play again. So its definitely an interruption caused by the phone and not a jack related problem. I guess ill just have to deal with it.

If the contact of the headphone jack is disrupted, but not dislodged, it could be enough to cause it to pause.
The headphone jack must really suck in mine because it randomly pauses playback over bluetooth regardless of which application I'm using to play music with. Even sometimes just playing music over the phone's speaker it happens for me. At first I thought it was a bug in CyanogenMod... but I guess not.

When i'm playing music off the sd card or pandora I loose gps in maps and navigator unless I have headphones plugged in.
I think it might be the speaker messing with the compass, but i have no idea.
I tried googling it, but all i found were a handful of people with the same issue and tons of people saying that they go running or do x or y and listen to music without an issue, but they're useing headphones.
Any ideas?
Same Problem
I have the exact same problem and it has been driving me crazy! I have tested thoroughly and I can use GPS for days no problems. As soon as I turn on Pandora or the Music app it instantly stops tracking and a few seconds later says sorry no GPS signal in this area (confirmed on Sprint Nav and Google Nav). As soon as I stop the music it pops back in.
Have you confirmed that the headphones corrects the problem? If so that may provide me a good work around.
Has anyone else found a better fix/work around? It is very strange!
My thoughts exactly! Ever since the Froyo update I've been having the same issues as well.

The magnet for the phones speaker interferes with the gps, that's why you can use headphones and gps and not have a problem

GPS
Thank you. Is there any work around?
Seems like a pretty bad/serious design flaw.
just using headphones, but **** this is annoying. I use gps for work, and I dont want to use headphones all the damn time. my g1 didnt have this issue so it's like wtf!
That is by far the worst handle I have ever seen. Congrats.
As far as the loose gps is concerned, have you tried tightening it?

Hi guys,
Got a really frustrating issue - my music pauses itself randomly. Seems to happen mostly after 10 mins of listening or so but has happened at other random times too.
This morning on the tube to work it paused as usual and when I went to the Google Music app I noticed it still looked as though it was playing - as in, the pause button was showing rather than the play one. But tapping it did nothing. Also noticed that the little headphones icon in the notification window had disappeared. It then reappeared and the app played as usual again. Doesn't tend to happen after the first pause.
Any ideas?
People mentioning it for other phones but no solutions

Man I had this issue on my GS2. Haven't experienced it on the Nexus yet.
When you're in the tube, try a journey with airplane mode on and see if it happens?
Could also be a problem with the jack.
Try HeadsetBlocker from Market. Some phones don't like (only) Headphones and think its a Headset with microfone. And sometimes they think you pushed a button on Headset and get confused (play, pause, forward, .......).
Had the same problem with my DHD and after installing and activating HeadsetBlocker everything was fine.

Cool thanks guys going to try a test with it on airplane mode first then give headset blocker a try.
Seems quite a widespread problem as reported here

So going to remove the Listen app and give that a go too.
I tried using Winamp instead but as soon as I turn my screen off it runs like an absolute dog - stuttering all over the place. Nightmare.
Are you using standard headphones, a third party headset or the ones that came with it?
I was listening to music yesterday and today on the tube using my Ultimate Ears - which is a headset with one button and didn't have any problems at all.
First bug is the audio bug when listening to music and a call comes in music stops and music is set to resume after call and audio basically dies i have to unplug whatever is in either headphones or mp3 and play the Music then reconnect while playing it is so annoying
Second bug i encounter sometimes when i answer a call it sometimes auto ends call instantly
Third not really a bug but its difficult to take a screenshot with buttons and sometimes swiping the palm moves the page
Everybody post bugs within the phone here hopefully if it gets enough replies maybe Sprint/ Samsung will see this :0

Ha the beauty of the internet. Thought it was a bug too. I don't have any problems with the music coming back on.
I did have scenario where i used a charger and the screen would freeze. Then when I unplug the charger the screen would unfreeze.

Happy to see this posted. I was riding my road bicycle today and use Map My Ride for my biking stats while listening to music.
Well I I just got my Sgs3 and was assuming everything would go fine on my ride. Nope, didn't happen after a few miles and songs into my ride my music stopped and all audio for that matter. When I was finally done I unplugged my headphones and couldn't even get sound to come through my external speakers either using the music player or Youtube.
Finally, I tried making a phone call and my ear speaker was ringing so I switched over to my external speaker which then started working. This in turn seemed to reset the problem.
I was freaking out cause I've only had the phone for 2 days. I did read over in Androidforums.com that people are having problems with sound going out particularly in phone calls and have had to have the mother board replaced. Many users seem to be international though so hopefully this isn't the case for us and our is software related.
Also I feel like my back button lags somewhat. Not sure if anyone else notices that.
Edit: Forgot the bug that when I press home button it doesn't always take me to my main home screen, it takes me to the next one over and I did check to make sure the main home screen I want is set in the Edit home screens option.

So today I at work and my boss walks over and ask me to turn down my music..... I had my headphones in and did not have it up very loud.
Several min later I get a phone call, a few min in he walks over and asked if I was on a personal call. I said no and the person continued to talk, what I didn't know was all the sound coming through the headphones was also being played on my phone speaker.
No looked it up and many people have the notifications sound problem, but couldn't find one that really had the same problem as me.
No matter what watch on YouTube or listen to in my music player the phone will play the sound on both headphones and speaker.
Any help with this problem guys?

Who's rom are you using? Also try a different pair of headphones. If the jack on your headphones is bent or not connecting correctly it will cause that to happen.
That happens when the headphone jack is not pushed all the way down!

I think you might also want to be sure the Phone is not in "Driving Mode"...
I just had the same problem. I was listening to Google music for a few hours no problem, but one track decided to play threw the speaker and not the headphones. Not sure what happened, I skipped the track and all was good again.

That has happen to me recently, it varies at one point it was when I was using YouTube but it left after I kept plugging headphone jack out and in a couple times try that.

Funny, when I play games and have music playing at the same time I have the same thing happen. Perhaps the next update in May will fix this?

Hello,
I am having problems with my audio cutting out sporadically.
Whenever I am playing music via my headphones plugged into my headphones jack it randomly cuts off. Sometimes it works for 20 minutes, sometimes it works for 2 minutes, then just pauses the music.
I have tried numberous things to resolve this,
Different Headphones (Still get the problem)
Different Music playing App
Different ROMS (currently on Purity and its perfect)
Disabled BAckground apps
But I still get the problem. Any idea on what this problem can be? Or anything I can run on the system to check the log files for the precise moment the music stops?
Thanks,
Dan
Most probably your phone's audio jack is damaged.

Great, Does anybody know where I can buy parts for my Galaxy Nexus in UK? I also need to buy a new vibration motor.
It seems like my Jawbone UP app which allows me to track my steps and sleep it getting killed after a while.
How can I stop the ActivityManager from killing it? As everytime its killed it just starts up again
I/ActivityManager( 389): No longer want com.jawbone.up (pid 5517): empty for 1816s
