Hey guys!
I rooted and flashed my HTC Desire LOONG time ago.. and i flashed the LeeDroiD 2.3 rom on it, but now i wanna upgrade it, what am i supposed to do now? i forgot some of the stuff, thats why im asking
Should i do a backup with Titanium BackUp for my apps and then backup my contacts? (i already did that, but is it neccesary?) I just want to use a new rom and get some Gingerbread features..
Do i have to reroot the device? or can i just use Rom Manager again? and do i have to repartition my SD card to get App2SD to work again? (as i had it on LeeDroiD 2.3)
Please help me!

No need to re root your device..
If you already use a2sd before and your sd card already have ext partition, no need to create a new one..
What you need just full wipe and flash a new rom that fits your current hboot..

Ive got my Desire setup pretty good but want to try some new roms out.
it was rooted using revoked and running clockwork recovery v2.5.0.7.
Can i just do a Nandroid backup and restore it no problem if i dont like the new roms? or do i need my desire s-off?

YOU NEED S-OFF (AND ENG-OFF IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE BASEBAND RADIO)
wen you do a backup of your older rom you can restore it without problems and it restores user data, apps, system, dalvik cache...etc... all things that you was haved.
try and enjoy new roms after doing a nand backup!!!
EDIT: now is available a new version of Clockworkmod recovery:::: lastest:::: 3.0.2.6 and a new version of ROM MANAGER::::: 4.1.0.0
YOU can install it from android market...
don´t forget that if you use an older version of CWM for sd card partition you can brik your device... be careful!

To be safe, if you partition it, mount sdcard in pc separately. For Windows, use Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition. Then 0% chance of brick.

Hi had the official 2.3 RUU installed on my Desire, I have used Reveloutinary.io to S off my phone, i have now r0oted my phone.
I have created an ext 3 partition on the SD card and took a nandroid backup.
The info i really need is my HBOOT v is 6.93, i want to install the "[ROM][15/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.1" on my phone, the question i have is can i simply flash the ROM straight on the phone, or will i have to downgrade the ROM to an official 2.2 RUU first.....
Sorry for the noobness but this is my first post ever so please go easy on me.
If you successfully s-off'd you dont need to downgrade anything, just copy the ROM to the SD Card and for this particular ROM make sure your ext partition is atleast 1GB.
Then Full Wipe/Factory rest + Cache wipe + Dalvik Cache Wipe in recovery.
Now flash the .zip file, after turning off signature verification (should be under "install from sdcard")
Also make sure you download right version of the ROM.
Stock A2SD version if you didnt changed HBOOT, and CM7 version if you changed your HBOOT to CM7.
Also if this is your first ROM, then take a look if you have any WIFI/GSM problems after you booted up, if so it means you might need to update your radio to 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 (search forum for it, there are guides how to flash it too), if you dont have any issues then just ignore it.

I jumped the gun and tried it, i took an online backup using My backup pro and whe i have come to restore all of my apps and settings it has restored nothing.
Is there anything i have missed off this?

I have not been on the desire forum for quite a while as i got an SG2 but a friend of mine needs some help with his HTC Desire.
He is realy frustrated with the memory running out all the time so
I am going to root it for him and try to get him sorted with the memory issues.
He will not require anything special so I basically want to root it and install a2sd or a2sd+ onto his stock rom if possible so as not to lose his apps etc.
My question is, is it possible to install a2sd or a2sd+ onto a rooted stock rom without losing any data?
I know i need to add an ext3 partition which is not a problem.
It is but its much more hassle than its worth. best bet would be to flash something like Teppic74's rooted stock 2.3.3 (or even 2.2 but Dont see why you would).
You probably wouldnt need to wipe for this anyway. This is assuming its a GSM (Sim card) phone.
You can always take a titanium backup of all the apps and data anyway incase you do have to root.

Hi guys, im thinking to flash the RevolutioN v4.0 rom to my desire, just wanted some tips. Im currently on cm7 and its a decent rom but i want to experiance some sense now
I wanted to know, is it possible to use Link2SD on this rom? instead of data2sd?
Will all my titanium backups be restored fine from my cm7 rom?
I have 4ext recovery, i wanted to also know how do i clean my ext4 partition ONLY and NOT the rest of the SD car?

To find out if Link2SD works, I recommend to search thread.
Restoring apps should not be a problem, as long as you do not restore any system-data. Only WiFi-Access-Points should work fine, because both Roms are based on Gingerbread.
4EXT-Recovery has under wipe-menu the option to wipe everything except SD card (FAT32-partition).

Please excuse the n00b questions, recent convert from iOS.. and apologies if this has been covered 1000 times, I could not find what I was looking for with the search function.
I currently own an HTC Desire (Bravo GSM) running 2.2.2 which I have set to Rooted/S-Off. I've been reading about Cyanogenmod and want to give 7.2 a go however I would like to have the option of being able to restore exactly what I've got currently i.e. retaining the Rooted/S-Off without having to go through Revolutionary again etc if at all possible.
There are plenty of guides detailing how to install Cyanogenmod which look straightforward, and I've seen mention of restoring to stock being easy, however there isn't much in the way of info regarding retaining my current Rooted/S-Off status and how to actually perform the restore. I've installed ClockworkMod/Nandroid and have copied the contents of the SD card to my PC as I understand the SD card is cleared during Cyanogenmod's install.
If anyone could give me an insight on whether my aims are possible and a quick guide to restoring (ie, which files I'd need to chuck back onto the SD card to restore), I'd be most grateful.
S-off, root, cwm recovery, SD card partition and the radio survive every time you install a new ROM. You don't/can't back them up. When you do a nandroid backup, it backs up all your data (apps, messages, etc).
Since you already took a nandroid backup, you're good to flash cyanogen mod. Just ensure you've partitioned your SD card correctly and full wipe is done before flashing.

Could anyone let me know if a guide exists to restore from the Nandroid backup?
I would also recommend 4ext recovery, its way better than CWM recovery.
And just so u know if uv made a nandroid backup using CWM recovery, u wont be able to restore it with 4ext recovery (if that makes sense)
So first thing, google 4ext recovery, download and install the "4ext recovery updater app" then open the app and flash 4ext recovery. Once thats done ul have to backup all important files etc + nandroid backup and save to PC coz ul need to partition ur sdcard and that will wipe everything.
Theres a guide in my sig for partitioning with 4ext.
After reading this some time ago, I wonder why everyone wants or needs S-Off.

U need s-off because the desire internal memory is piss poor and with s-off u can change ur hboot to maximize data/user memory. Also u can use fastboot commands, flash radio etc etc.
Desire internal memory partition is 250/40/147 (system, cache,data) so if u flash a custom rom that is only 80mb then ur wasting 170mb in system partition so by using a custom hboot u can maximize ur data partition. Like if u use a rom like mildwild and the rom is 80mb then u can use a hboot that i made where the partition layout is 90/5/342 so ur not wasting any mb

Haha i was wondering coz u posted a link for the htc One. The htc desire, u really need s-off but for newer devices u dont (not sure if u can even s-off them anyway) coz they all have enough memory and an unlocked bootloader is enough in my opinion.
