Standby and battery drainage - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
I have an HTC Desire HD with RCMix HD_5.6.7 rom installed. It has been fine for weeks, suddenely in the last few days when i put my phone on standby, my screen will turn on without it being touched and does it constantly untill the battery drains.
Just wondering if anybody has any ideas?
P.S i have done a complete phone wipe and reinstalled the ROM but it's still doing the same.
thanks

did you install any app prior to that? or did you check the stay awake in development setting?

Thanks for the reply.
I haven't installed anything new and I haven't ticked "stay awake" since i rooted my phone a couple of months ago, and then i turned it off afterwards to save battery.
Im thinking im going to install a Sence 3.0 rom see how it is then.
Any recomendations as to which Sence 3 rom i should install??
thanks again

So far the true Sense 3 roms are still not mature enough. You may face a lot of limitations and bugs. Most of stable ones are based on Sense 2.1 with Sense 3 components.
Coredroid and Leedroid are two of my personal choices. If you want a true Sense 3, try RcMix3D or Virtuoso Unity to see them yourself.

[Q] CM6.1.3 VS Stock HTC 1.72.405.3

So, i was stupid enough to OTA before we knew it couldn't be rooted.
Now i have downgraded and used CM6.1.3 for a few days wich i belive is buildt around 1.72.405.3 and i can see a massiv battery drain, like loose allmost 50% over night in standby mode. Couldnt find any particular reason for this other than system using most of it in standby.
Now i have downgraded and reverted back to stock HTC 1.72 and my batterylife is back to 2 days+ can easy do over night without loosing more than 5-10% battery.
Anyone else noticed this or have i done something wrong with my CM6.1.3 flashing?
Any point of view would be nice really, maybe some of the ROM Chefs in here have some thoughts around this?
Alot of people including myself have notice a slightling higher battery drain using CM6.1.3 over a sense base rom. Most have found that using the new radio suggested in the thread helps with it. If you find that the battery drain is to much for you then try one of the custom sense based roms, android revolution has a zip you can flash to remove the sense stuff from the rom and run the launcher from 2.3 instead.
Are you running the stock radio?

yea at the moment i wrote this post i was using stock radio, after upgrading to 17_M2 its alot better, now on CM7 and all looks good tbh
Good to hear it, looks like alot of people are suffering on build #5 but #6 seems to be a little better.
Enjoy,

Hi, I had the same problem on CM6.1.3, i found a post somewhere, but in a nutshell, under WI-FI settings click menu, advanced, WI-FI Sleep policy & change the option to never. Has helped my battery loads.

Help with battery, MA too high

I have wiped everything did everything you are supposed to do and im running 180MA that isn't right for a mod which nearly all are saying 3-5 is normal and 13 is high, the rom is PNK Killer Llama V2 my radio is 26.04.02.13 M2 not M2 SF, what am i doing wrong :/
Is that 180ma with screen off?.
3-5 is normal when the screen is off.
i bet you are measuring with screen turned on
Well i waited for an hour then checked again checking at half an hour and it was at 72 so i though oh thats good. then i checked at an hour bang 142 :|
I reckon it's an app because it's now at 5MA with everything turned off apart from network. im in a 2g only area btw but it's usual to get full bar signal so it's odd
Check the running apps in application settings and try stopping all that are not necesarry, do you happen to have sky news installed ?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I am running at 280-330ma when browsing.. is this normal?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I just flashed ARHD with the recommended radio and ever since then, my battery drains like mad. Around 75mA with screen off and 350mA with screen on.
I'm using leedroid 2.2.2 and latest radio 1-4mah drain with screen off
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I had the same problem with the ROM Cyanogen CM7.
Consumption of the battery far too high.
You should know that the HTC rom with sense use a proprietary driver and less greedy.
For other's rom's, hacking in the kernel.
I going on a rom with sense, Leedroid 2.3.4, I' have never eaten my battery so little.
For Rom's nosense, I wait that problems are solved
No i don't is sky news a battery killer?
Yeah apparently

Not really mate, check out my battery thread i created from personal experience, if not then try reflashing the rom NANDROID first! also full wipe before you do flash, most battery problems and problems are caused by people not full wiping

nah i mean nandroid backup, post me your current widget log, ill have a look.
Also do this: goto phone/dialer then dial in *#*#4636#*#* then check the battery history from here you should get to a menu which allows you to view certain usage, look at all the usage and tell me what is first second and third on all of them, these are possibly your problems, also which kernel you using? his latest 2.2.8? leedroid has a fantastic battery life usually so this is unusual, i doubt it's your phone
i also forgot to add in, delete your HTC SENSE account, it's useless and eats cpu for breakfast, which means drain on battery is higher, and when i say eats it i mean 100% usage sometimes, this could be your problem, it was mine :L
also what radio are you using?

[Q] data roaming issue on Cool Droid v3 ROM

hi all
I finally decided to give some new life to my HTC Desire, rooted it, S-OFFed it as well and after long search for most suitable ROM for me, flashed Cool Droid v3 Bravo on it.
ROM looks great and works fine, but it has only one big issue (so far) - I cannot turn on data roaming, it is turned off by default and tweaked to stay that way. As a noob, obviously I cannot post this question in specific thread about that ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279016 so I have to ask here:
is there any fix for it, an advice or procedure how to change the script (I figured out that it's just a line in build.prop file but it doesn't allows me to change it). I'm not scared to tinker with it as long as it's not too complicated and makes sense.
I need it because I live in Europe, travel a lot and I use national roaming very often.
Please if anyone can help me, because this issue is a dealbreaker for me with this ROM and I'd hate that.
Thanks in advance
PS: the screenshot shows how the setting stays no matter what option I choose
Install a rom that hasnt got a lot of Verizon stuff in it.
I would, if I can find fast, stable and reliable ROM, based on GB and preferably with Sense on it.
I'm not into flashing new ROM every few days and trying out every custom ROM out there, I just need my phone to work well within its capabilities as I travel a lot and use it for work.
I guess that this data roaming issue shouldn't be too complicated to solve, it's a piece of cake for every developer...

well, I flashed this rom and been testing it last few days. It has pretty much all that I need but I find it quite heavy on my device. Too many times it slows down, lags and freezes, especially when running games and apps that need syncing. Also, quite a lot FCs. Battery drain is also significant.
I'm not sure where exactly the problem is, it just gets stuck with black screen and only notification bar is visible.
Any advice where to look at? Might it be kernel, radio or CPU issue?
thanks
A tip for ya when flashing that rom. When u first install it from recovery and reboot, when it boots past bootanimation and gets to the lockring.... Leave it settle for 15-20 mins, dont unlock. Then after 15-20 mins unlock then reboot. Then no force close, sounds mad but its true. U could try a different kernal, Droidzone has a few good 1s for sense 3.5 roms and also in settings/RCMix tweaks, u can fix permissions there, try that, it sometimes fixes force close. Im using Aurora v6 special edition, its android 2.3.5 and sense 3 and not 1 problem so far, great rom infact. Saying that, Runnymede aio s.e is my personal favourite sense 3.5 and never had any problems with it, but letting it settle for 15-20 mins is a must.
About the radio.... What do u have? Lastest is recommended.

I followed that flashing procedure pretty much, I was gentle and easy going right after flashing it, not rushing anything, left it to settle (maybe not 20 mins) and rebooted it again. Actually, FCs are not such a big issue like freezing. Usually 1fc comes on 5 freezes. My radio is 5.11.05.27, I haven't touched it since rooting the phone with Revolutionary. I kinda hesitate to flash it, I don't want to brick my device because I'm not sure about the right procedure.
As my name says, I'm just an ordinary noob, not too experienced with all this.
thanks
Did u do a full wipe before flashing.

I did a full wipe, formatting and partitioning SD card from the scratch (fat32 partition included), 4ext is 1GB... I did all following developer's recommended procedure step by step. SD card is brand new SanDisk 8 GB, class 6.
It works well after reboot, but after a while, as soon as several apps are opened, it lags and hangs heavily, making the phone unusable.
I'm not sure does it matter, but I moved all movable apps to "phone storage", except those that have widgets that I use. Yet, the phone still freezes even when using non-movable apps.
I'd flash it again right now but I get messed up contacts list every time because not all my contacts are on google and I have 1000+ in total, so after every restore I get many duplicates and triplicates, so I'd really like a solution that doesn't include another flashing.
Here is a better tip. Don't use sense 3+ if you want reliability. I recommend cool bravo s, but change the kernel.

So your telling me that you have no fcs, no lags, especially when receiving a call, no battery drains? Do you use your phone? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I really want to know, because every sense 3+ rom I had wasn't 100%. Which rom are you using right now?

I'd like to stick with this rom.. I do have lags but not when receiving a call, that's why I suppose that I just have to do some detailed tweaking and that's where I need help as I'm not experienced with it. FCs are actually not so bad, pretty much the same as I had them on my stock froyo so I can live with that. Battery drain is there though, but I've been using the phone intensively since flashing RM AIO, trying to set it up.
Can maybe someone post here proper radio/kernel/CPU settings please?
My device is amoled version, with 5.11.05.27 radio and 2.6.35.10 [email protected] #11 kernel
CPU settings are untouched after flashing the rom, so they are "default".
thanks

Phone Lagging

Hi,
Since the last couple of months my phone has started lagging a fair bit. Whenever I open any application be it messages, what's app, camera the phone takes alteast 3-4 seconds before opening the application. Previously I thought it was an issue with the battery but I got myself a new battery but the problem still persists. I've tried changing ROM's but to no avail.
Currently I am using : King Cobra DHD Sense 4.1
Kernel: 3.0.76-HD-Kernel
Radio: 12.65.60.29U_26_14.04.28_M
Sorry to somewhat hijack but I'm having a similar problem.
I've noticed similar lag, but especially when downloading apps, updating etc... Basically I assume writes to the internal memory slow things down quite a bit.
Are you having this same problem or is it an all-around lag? A solution I've heard of is to turn ON USB-debugging in the developer options, hope this helps for you.

OK door it's not a big problem... It is just happens because u r using sense 4.1 try to use its original or other aosp (simple without sense ROM) or you can try jelly time rom it is quite stable ROM. Any Sense 4.1 is not fully functional rom. And just remember you're new rom will take some hours to stable.

You install a different custom ROM exactly the same way you installed your first custom ROM
- Make sure the ROM is compatible with your device
- Nandroid backup
- Remember to full wipe / factory reset within recovery if changing ROMs
- Install ROM.zip....
There are guides everywhere over the internet as to how to do this in case your forgot. Google is still your friend even if you are a teenager
There is no such thing as a battery saving ROM. Battery life is mostly dependent on your individual usage and how you use the device/
Whenever you have battery issues, it always makes sense to use logic first, to try and understand what is using your battery according to the laws of physics. Apps like betterbatterystats or wakelock detector will tell you if you have any bad apps keeping your phone awake.
If there are no suspsicous apps, it's likely that the battery is simply too old and worn if it's the original one (which would be ~4 years old by now). A new battery would be a better option. No amount of changing ROMs or kernels etc will make a difference.

Your home button generally needs to remain in place. Because you need to get home a lot
To turn on the screen, you can find a ROM with trackpad wake, I believe most have this built in, check each ROM thread first post, or search the thread
To turn off the screen, use a widget on the homescreen do the same thing
You can install whatsapp and candy crush on basically any rom...even stock ROM
