Help with battery, MA too high - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have wiped everything did everything you are supposed to do and im running 180MA that isn't right for a mod which nearly all are saying 3-5 is normal and 13 is high, the rom is PNK Killer Llama V2 my radio is 26.04.02.13 M2 not M2 SF, what am i doing wrong :/

Is that 180ma with screen off?.

3-5 is normal when the screen is off.
i bet you are measuring with screen turned on

Well i waited for an hour then checked again checking at half an hour and it was at 72 so i though oh thats good. then i checked at an hour bang 142 :|

I reckon it's an app because it's now at 5MA with everything turned off apart from network. im in a 2g only area btw but it's usual to get full bar signal so it's odd

Check the running apps in application settings and try stopping all that are not necesarry, do you happen to have sky news installed ?

I just flashed ARHD with the recommended radio and ever since then, my battery drains like mad. Around 75mA with screen off and 350mA with screen on.

I'm using leedroid 2.2.2 and latest radio 1-4mah drain with screen off
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I had the same problem with the ROM Cyanogen CM7.
Consumption of the battery far too high.
You should know that the HTC rom with sense use a proprietary driver and less greedy.
For other's rom's, hacking in the kernel.
I going on a rom with sense, Leedroid 2.3.4, I' have never eaten my battery so little.
For Rom's nosense, I wait that problems are solved

No i don't is sky news a battery killer?

Yeah apparently

nah i mean nandroid backup, post me your current widget log, ill have a look.
Also do this: goto phone/dialer then dial in *#*#4636#*#* then check the battery history from here you should get to a menu which allows you to view certain usage, look at all the usage and tell me what is first second and third on all of them, these are possibly your problems, also which kernel you using? his latest 2.2.8? leedroid has a fantastic battery life usually so this is unusual, i doubt it's your phone
i also forgot to add in, delete your HTC SENSE account, it's useless and eats cpu for breakfast, which means drain on battery is higher, and when i say eats it i mean 100% usage sometimes, this could be your problem, it was mine :L
also what radio are you using?

install a task manager

[PATCH][4/3/11] Radio Interface Layer: Library to Radio Firmware Automatcher

Mod Edit: Redirect Removed
Reserved for future use.
Cheers, mate. This thing is handy-dandy. Thanks for updating.
Thanks rmk and pfak!
If you remember me complaining about garbled calls, I started reflashing my radio and using this patch everytime I would flash a new rom, and I haven't had one garbled call since.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but I'm pretty happy and think that this has helped my issue.
Btw, I have been using the 03.02.18 radio since I believe it was from a Bell Canada release (my carrier).
Thanks!

Thank you for this great tool! it does make it so much easier to test. and previously I did notice an improvement when matching the ril files, although right now I am testing without matching.
but my question is why does no one talk about matching the files "libganril.so " and "librilswitch.so"?
is it known that they are the same? or have they been overlooked? I believe that they are part of the rildeamon.
does anyone have any information on these libraries?
Thanks again for your hard work!

I experienced the importance of the relationship between Radio & Ril with Windows HTC devices. I'm no dev but I've had my suspicion from going thru the threads and reading what people were experiencing flashing the same Roms and Radios.
I'm glad the Devs figured it out.
Once I saw the thread, I installed the patch and let it do its thing because I new I had a mis-match but issues weren't bad enough to try and fix & in the process...break something I couldn't fix.
I'm still a noob with Android & the G2 is my 1st Android device. I started with the HD2 w/Android but that don't count.
With all these words, just trying to say thanks.....
Install the patch people, it works

This is exactly why I state that the matcher is not to be used on aosp roms. UD is an aosp rom. Please read the details before reporting issues, as this was erroneous, being that you saw completely expected behavior.

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? loool. MAX I get is like 20 hours on a full battery. Do you not use your phone at all??
RMK: I installed this with your slightly modified leaked Sense 2.3.3 test ROM, so far working perfectly. I am using a NAM Bell Desire Z on Rogers network. Radio version: 26.03.02.26_M. Will post if I observe any problems. Thanks.
I ran this auto patcher on my CM7 before I saw people saying not recommended for Cyanogen lol. What is the best way to "undo" that? Put a different radio on? or what about different radio, auto match, then go back to this radio? My data speeds are insanely bad, 9kbps up, 6kbps down. Unclear on if this is related... but I just wanna do what I can to fix it.

Just re-flash CM7 on top of your existing install. You may also need to re-flash the gapps package after doing so.
Ahh, so I've had it fixed for a while now lol. Thanks. Wasn't sure if it was something on a deeper level than the rom's like the radio itself

Help w/Destroy v2

First issue is the battery life drains really fast. Is there any fix for that or is this only due to destroyer v2? You need to wipe batt stats when switching ROMs, esp between Sense and AOSP. I would try charging to 100% and wiping stats. If that doesn't help, try charging for 8hrs, unplug, turn off, charge for an hour, unplug and turn on for two min, turn off and charge for an hour.
For GPS, google CM7 gps fix or ##gpsclrx#. Edit: nevermind, here it is:
Backup destroyer
wipe everything
Flash or restore sense ROM
dial ##gpsclrx#
let phone reboot
open maps and get a lock, let it stay locked for a few min
go back to recovery and wipe everything again
restore destoyer
For screen animation, check spare parts settings and make sure window animations are set to normal. Then check menu>settings>cm settings>display and make sure screen off animation is checked.
I never changed anything for the animation to stop working...It just stopped working all the sudden & still wont work no matter what I do..
Try a savage zen kernel for bat life I used .1.2 bfs and got 18+ hours on moderate use. Titanium backup wipe andreflash rom. I had a bug and that fixed everything

I agree! I had the Destroyer on my phone with the Sav-Zen kernel on it as well and it worked great on battery life!
Does anyone get the issue of the phone going off on its on after a few seconds? Also whenever browsing the web the phone dims on its own after a few seconds & I have it set to 1 minute....
What savage zen kernel were you guys using? Can you link me? Comparing the sprint lovers sense rom to CM7 battery life is horrible with cm7. w/the same amount of usage on sprint lovers my batt lasts all day whereas the cm7 dies half a day..
I get better battery life with the Tiamat Kernel.

This exactly. What do you have your processor frequency set at? Underclocking it a bit (or changing governor) might help. If not, try recalibrating your battery with an app from the market.

A bit rough (in my opinion), but I'll have to agree, there has been a recent uptick in battery issue threads.
Its not being rough its being informative to the " I want a quick fix " users, people want the newest, greatest, super this, fastest that etc etc have there phone o/c to unnecessary levels and still expect the battery to be able to work wonders. Sorry peeps but its not gonna happen unless you turn things down and/or off. Light levels, sound levels, oom levels,o/c levels, gps, data, sync intervals etc etc etc.The battery on the wildfire has (lets be honest) always been quite poor,to put it mildly. The way I see it and get over this issue is think how long a laptop would last with constant use!!! Now compare your phones battery life which your probably trying to run like a laptop!! Rant over.
P.s I'm not trying to upset or anger anybody and if I have it wasn't my intention,I was just emphasizing the point that this issue has been discussed and methods to increase battery life are all over this forum.

I don't overclock it except when I am playing angry birds. And when I finish playing I get it back to the previously mentioned values. I've noticed the battery issue after installing CWM recovery v5.2.0.8 and I've seen another post (don't remember where) about the same problem

If you want an ultimate solution, restore your phone to factory settings using CWM, flash a lightweight ROM, underclock your processor, try not to multitask as much (quit apps, don't just go home), turn off background data, lower your screen brightness, and, if all that doesn't work, get a new battery! If even that doesn't work, you probably have a faulty device.
Even if you quit apps properly most can just get going again by themselves, two apps i've mentioned a million times in these forums, Autostarts and llama or tasker if your a bit more tech savvy. If they don't solve apps wasting battery nothing will.

Best ROM for battery saving?

Dear friends,
I have had some problems with my battery, as you can check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697584
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659525
I don't know if I have been spoiled by Nokia, because I had a Nokia E72 with a tiny screen a 1500Ah battery (Two days connected with EDGE/Wifi updating Whatsapp and Gravity).
I just need Whatsapp and any Twitter application running al the time.. 3G or HSPDA is not a must, I could live with EDGE for battery saving.
I have tried:
Stock 2.3 ROM
Oxygen COS'ed
CM7 RC1
Minwild 4.9 CM
I don't care about fancy widgets and so... I just want battery life... sometimes I use the screen with 10% brightness!
Please, help me! Help will be highly appreciated.
PD: Moto RZR MAXX is too expensive
PD2: I'm using lastest radio and have not messed with Kernels, always using the one that comes with each ROM.
PD3: Testing is so easy, I wonder if someone have done that before? Install ROM, install whatsapp and twitter, config, fully charge, see it discharge and take the time and try with another ROM, right know I don't have the time, but that's what I want to do...!
Bets regards.
Far as I know those roms aren't exactly power hungry.
ManU kernel is recognized for batter saving.
You can use with MildWild CM version.
For oxygen I think you have to use thalamus kernel.
I'm using Oxygen V4 MildWild with latest thalamus kernel and with normal use (wifi once in a while but usually switched off, some browsing, some phone calls, some texts and even a little game once in a while) it lasts me a full day. If I play too much, the battery can last as three hours (with bat, intensive games).

I dont think there is a rom that uses ManU kernel by default. But as long as a rom is based on CM7 I believe you can replace the default one with ManU.

The best rom for battery, performance and stability is none other than GINGER VILLAIN. If you look at the screenshot most of juice is gone into display as I like 100% display. I am sure you can save further battery with switching off wifi, mobile data, gps, vibrations, display etc. But this rom is pretty much beating other rooms. Only problem people find is there are no future updates for this rom. If you looking for above all then go for this rom.
Hit thanks if it helps you.
Cheers

And that would be about 50% correct. The rom does play an important role on battery consuption.
I know you asked about ROMs, but if you dont mind a thicker phone you could also consider an extended battery. I'm using a Cameron Sino 2400MAH battery, cost me £7 from Amazon UK and I get between 30 - 38 hours out of my Desire, depending on use. That's with ICS for Desire by Sandvold installed.
I cant post links yet but take a look at batteryboss.org and it mentions it as being "not a bad deal".
ICS works fine for me
I use the BCM - Ice Cream Sandwich from CM9 Source and it works fine for me. Been up for almost 16 hours with decent usage and pretty poor cell signal the whole time.
The lowest battery drain I've had was using Mildwild's Oxygen Based. Nearly 2 days of battery with pretty decent usage. See the attachments below: you might found them a bit dark cause they were made with screen filter at 50%.
- During night, phone had 2G (GPRS).
- Screen on-time: 3 hours, above 50% usage.
- Always with WiFi or HDSPA (3G) excepts during nights.
With battery perfectly calibrated (it shutdowns at 0%).

You install a different custom ROM exactly the same way you installed your first custom ROM
- Make sure the ROM is compatible with your device
- Nandroid backup
- Remember to full wipe / factory reset within recovery if changing ROMs
- Install ROM.zip....
There are guides everywhere over the internet as to how to do this in case your forgot. Google is still your friend even if you are a teenager
There is no such thing as a battery saving ROM. Battery life is mostly dependent on your individual usage and how you use the device/
Whenever you have battery issues, it always makes sense to use logic first, to try and understand what is using your battery according to the laws of physics. Apps like betterbatterystats or wakelock detector will tell you if you have any bad apps keeping your phone awake.
If there are no suspsicous apps, it's likely that the battery is simply too old and worn if it's the original one (which would be ~4 years old by now). A new battery would be a better option. No amount of changing ROMs or kernels etc will make a difference.
will you suggest any good and stable rom for htc desire??

Your home button generally needs to remain in place. Because you need to get home a lot
To turn on the screen, you can find a ROM with trackpad wake, I believe most have this built in, check each ROM thread first post, or search the thread
To turn off the screen, use a widget on the homescreen do the same thing
You can install whatsapp and candy crush on basically any rom...even stock ROM
