I have a rooted incredible without a custom ROM or kernel and I read that incredikernel has a really good battery life. Can I install this kernel to my stock incredible or do I have to install a custom ROM first?

Yes. For incredikernel you have to run an AOSP ROM. Flash Rom first, boot into it and the flash kernal through recovery.

You can use the 12/23 release for the 2.2 stock sense rom. Just flash it in CWM. Or even rom manager can do it. Its near the bottom of the OP I think.

I recommended cm7, since most of the rom are the same but different name.
not really there are enough changes between most of them. sigh hopefully this gets moved to the right section...
Can anyone provide me the link to the correct incredikkernel that I should be using for my stock incredible? I didn't flash any ROM, just rooted my incredible as is.

Look in the incredikernel thread. The one you want is near the bottom of the OP labeled 12/23/2010 sense.
Thanks. Installed it and everything is running pretty good so far.

I have sky raider sense running on my d.inc how do I check what version I'm running because I forgot the last time I updated. And if i want to update to 3.3.4 do I flash over or wipe? I think I have sky raider 3.0 rc3 but I'm not sure

If you're coming from anything before 3.3, which you are, do a full wipe. There were some major changes to the frame work, it's a great ROM, been absolutely flawless for me.

Alright thanks a lot! And can I go straight to 3.3.4 or do I have to update incrementally

3.3.3 is the full ROM, 3.3.4 is just an update to stop the OTA updates. Install 3.3.3 then flash 3.3.4 over that, no wipe.
I went from CM6 back to stock so i can have 4g. I just feel like my phone is laggy. I am using sense, but very few widgets. And I am watching my ATK.
Currently I am using stock kernel 11. I have heard Kernel 17 is better. How can I upgrade the kernel when I am using stock rom, bootloader, etc? Also can anyone provide a link to kernel 17?
Any help?

Stop using a task killer. That's so Donut.
Can I flash this kernel over the incROM rom?
Yes. Make sure its not the gingerbread one

I'm still pretty new to this. If I flash a new rom (in this case CM10) does it also flash a kernel? If I am on cm10 and flash a new aosp based kernel and decide to go back would I flash the stock Samsung kernel or is there a special one for cm10?

All ROMs include a kernel, without one it wouldn't boot. If you flash a new kernel after installing CM10 and want to revert to the old kernel, just flash the ROM again without wiping data and it will restore the kernel.

can i dirty flash to freeza's newest stock rom?
If you do and run across bugs, don't post them until you've done a clean flash
