[Q] SD card problems with G2 please help - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recieved a warrenty phone from tmobile and when i rooted it with CM7 i started getting error messages with my sdcard. And for some reason when i tried restoring my phone back to stock the bootloader was able to read the pc10img file. I did alot of research on the xda forums and came across a usb brick fix which gave me a adb command of fastboot oem enableqxdm 0. I tried this step a bunch of times. sometimes it worked but after a few min/hours it will have the same problems again. I do not know what to do. the procedure for the usb brick is for the desire but i have the G2. Can sombody please help me.

Try using the sd on something else. If its good there its not the sd. Or flash your nandroided stock(which you should of done) and see if the error is still there.
It could also be the phone they sent you..they don't send new phones on first time replacements

I tried putting the sdcard in my PC and it world fine. And I also flashed the phone back to stock(unrooted with s-off) and got the same error

Do you by chance have an older phone laying around you can check with? I assume you didn't see an error before you rooted it? Gotta be something with the phone. On the bright side after a couple phone swaps they will give you a new one
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App

I wish it was that easy. I would've returned it along time ago but the problem is my phone has s-off and in order to return it I have to have s-on and I need the SD to work so I can put back the s on

If the sd card works its the phone...time to bust out and use adb or get another sd card, use it for what you need, and then bring it back. Not only will you be helping yourself but when you bring it back say it was a gift and works fine that way the next person looking for an sd card can get an open box item. Places like best buy make a killing on products they sell anyway

Usually if its device specific they will say not to use on anything else. Send a pm the the author of that post and see what they say, or do what I mentioned in the post above yours

I used Gfree to root my devices since the method I used with my original device doesnt work for the updated G2. I tried to use gfree with adb to get s-on but it requires sd.

Well...all you can do is get an sd card and hope the device will read it.

[Q] Micro SD self deleting files. What am I doing wrong?

I just bought a 32gb class 4 micro sd card and after formatting it via my desire Z, i keep on running into a really really wierd problem.
I would connect my phone to the computer and set it as disk drive and drag/drop a group of files in it (ie. playlist file or small ringtone files) and as soon as I eject it and unplug the cable from my phone, the files are suddenly gone again.
What am I screwing up and how do I fix this?
Is it possible that my format method is wrong? if so, can someone explain what's the best way to format the card properly.
Why did you even format it in the first place?? Don't fix what's not broken...
What OS are you using on your computer?
I usually format every card i get as a habit. Don't know why, I was just taught to do that and never really thought it would hurt.
I'm using Windows 7
Try format it from your computer to FAT32
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA App
I've already done that a while back. it actually made the card read only when i put it on my phone.
I think you've got a defected micro sd mate
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA App
you mean defective. And yes, I believe so. I've contacted the seller and he's agreed to do an exchange for me. Hopefully I'll receive a new one that works by next week....

All SD cards, thumb drives, etc. are already formatted, usually FAT32, so you are wasting your time doing exactly what is already done. If you were to format to something besides FAT32, that would make sense.
haha sorry I sent this almost as soon as I woke up, hope you can forgive me ;D

Well, again, it's just a habit, but nothing wrong with it I believe. I waste maybe a few minutes doing a quick format.
But yeah, I'm sending the card back to the seller for an exchange so hopefully it's just bad luck. If not I'll have to spend more money on a better card eventhough this one is a Kingston class 4 which was unsettling....

Lol, I just correct people when necessary since the internet is usally plagued with people who don't understand the basic difference in homonyms like your and you're or there, their, they're and etc.
My correction has no spite attached to it

I use class 4, its fast enough for 720p recording and playback

That sounds about right. I wish I can get a class 6 but then again i dont trust the stuff on ebay and the stuff on other sites really show offbrand stuff that I've rarely heard of..

[Q] Unrooting Evo

My wife recently dropped her phone and has to send it in to get replaced, so now we need to unroot it. I went through all the steps of unrooting to get s-on which it now is. The only problem was when I tried to reinstall the PC36IMG.zip file it says the version is to old and cannot install. I was wondering if anyone has the link to the NON ROOTED OTA PC36IMG.zip. Or I am wondering if she downloads and flashes the update.zip file if it would it delete the superuser app??
Please help
From what I've seen on here, when it comes to physical damage to your phone, Sprint no longer cares if you're rooted, only if you brick the phone will they not honor the warranty.

Not true for me at least (Boston area). My phone randomly reboots and the usb is broken so I couldn't unroot so I took it to Sprint and they said its against policy to work on rooted phones

They have already sent her a replacement phone. I am not worried about that. I just want to return the phone without any questions being asked.

They wont care, when they refurbish the phone they are gonna update the software anyway and totally wipe your phone, erasing whatever you had on there

I would go to a different Sprint store, your phone being rooted has nothing to do with your USB port being crappy, same thing happened to my USB port, I took my phone in, explained my phone wouldn't charge (by then my battery was drained) they went to the back and brought me out a replacement. The USB is a known issue with the evo they should have replaced your phone

Yeah the fat b**** in the back of the store that repairs the phones wouldn't even touch my phone when she heard it was rooted... and when I did unroot she gave a time of 2 hours just to clear storage on the phone even though I said I already did that. On top of that they said a replacement would be available over night... two days ago. Now I'm stuck waiting

So I guess it vary from store to store. I think my store might be cool. Actually one of the techs there taught me how to unlock my old palm pre. Oh and my usb port is starting to go. Does anyone know how it might work out if you just "lost" your phone?

Droid Incredible SD Card Problem

Hello! I have been searching around the forums for this problem, and I can't seem to find it, so I'll post it here.
Anyway, my rooted Droid Incredible, with CyanogenMod 7.1, as well as my mom's Droid Incredible, stock on Android 2.3.4 recently updated by HTC, have both been having troubles with our 16 Gig micro sd cards. Randomly, after a boot, the sd card becomes unreadable and corrupted, so I had to go back to our old 2 gig ones. As far as I know none of our cards were even close to being filled, with cards at a max only being filled about 25 percent full. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Sent from my Droid Incredible using XDA App
Copy contents of both to pc, reformat them FAT32, copy content back onto each, and put them back in the devices. Note that the device is OFF when you remove and reinstall the SD.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Thank you, however I already have done this in the past, because our Droid Incredibles have a history of doing this. However, this time is a problem, because our SD card will not even be read by the computer. I am assuming that whatever important is on there is lost and cannot be recovered, although it would be great if we could. My main problem now is that because the phone or the computer (running Windows 7) cannot even know it's there, I cannot reformat. Any advice?
Can you use the phone to reformat it?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Already tried, still wouldn't do anything.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Hmm, if both run without error with the other cards, I can only speculate the 16gb ones are what's wonky.
Absent pc backups from an earlier time, I'd say the 16's get retired and the 2's put back into service.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Ok thanks. I'm going to try just buying another card from another brand.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
What brand were you using?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Have you checked it on Linux? Download a copy to a disk and boot it up. Then pop it into a card reader and see what's there. Windows doesn't recognize ext partitions, so if your card is formatted ext it may not show up.
Just a thought... Merry Christmas.
...Sorry...I was on the phone...
PNY was the brand I was using, however I am now successfully using an 8 gig SanDisk, and it's working now. You see, the reason I asked is because this isn't the first time this has happened in my Dinc, and I've been able to save it in the past, but this time I couldn't, and I was wondering if there's a reason our sd cards kept crashing. Anyway, we'll see if it was just a bad manufacturer. And I would install Ubuntu, however we only have one computer in the house, so I just keep Ubuntu on a flash drive just in case Windows goes kaput, and I need to access files.

And sorry, I hope you have a great Christmas! Thank you for the help.

I had something like this happen to me on an 8GB card. It could not format inside the phone, and the laptop was not detecting it, infact there was no option to use as disk drive. Finally I fixed it. I had to go into recovery, mounts and storage, mount usb storage. And lo and behold, it showed up on my laptop when I connected it. I now did a FULL FORMAT, not quick format. After this, I put it back in the phone and it's as good as new. Hope this helps someone.

HTC Wildfire: volume buttons & memory card error

Hi guys, I don't know if any of you have answered to a similar query on here. but I need advice.
I have a wildfire on T-mobile for a little a year and slipped on ice and cracked my screen,
T-mobile refused to replace it as it wasn't a warranty repair and I didn't take out insurance (idiot).
so I found a local store to do the replacement screen for £60.
When i picked it up i realised that the volume buttons no longer worked, and the sd card wouldn't recognise, I tried other cards and it wouldn't work either. now my wildfire can't read sd's or control the volume.
I really want to root this little gem and get rid of all the bloatware and flash a new Rom.
questions;
Am I screwed for rooting as far as the volunee buttons? I know you h ave to use them when rooting Galaxys as I've done quite a few.
is there diagnostic software or driver's that can locate the actual faulty parts so I know what to order.
I am more than confident to repair it myself as I don't trust that shop any more.
thanks for reading my 1st post on XDA

Hi Blakeablez,
First thing: you are in the Wildfire S forum. Not in the Wildfire forum which is an older model.
If I was you I would go to the store and complain about the problem they caused. You have a short repair warranty period in case you don't know.
About the volume button you will need it for entering recovery mode.
Don't know if such software for detecting fauly parts exists though...

Thanks for the reply,
Taking it back to the store is not an option I have anymore I'm afraid as it was well over 9 months ago.
Sorry about posting in the wrong forum, I'm just getting used to the XDA app.
I've come to terms that I will better off getting a donor phone or two off Fleabay. thanks

You can use Rom manager from the market, if your phone is officially supported (which I would think it is). Load Rom manager and install recovery.
When it installs the recovery as long as its 5.0.2.8 then you can navigate the clockwork recovery menus with the capacitive buttons at the bottom of your screen.
From within Rom mananager select to boot into recovery.
Try it good luck.
I would have thought that my wildfire would need to be rooted before rommanager could reboot into recovery?

Wondering if another card will.solve the problem. Anyone?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Today I got back my DHD out of repair. I had the same issue. It was a hardware issue for me. I've got replaced SD and SIM card slots. So far, I don't get any errors.
Try to open SIM card cover and look to cable on the left side of SD card slot. It could be a bit damaged as it was for me. If it is, then you get errors when the cable gets a contact with the plastic cover.
That was a problem for me and could be for you.
