Safe to root T-Mobile G2 with 2.3 update? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After getting my replacement G2 I found it had the 2.3.3 update from T-Mobile on it. I was wondering if it was safe to root with using the method from the XDA wiki or not.
Base Number is 2.13.531.8 CL56018 release-keys
if that helps at all

2.3.3 for the G2 currently isn't rootable yet. However, the guys at #g2root are currently working on it.

Thank you, I guess I have to sit and wait then =/

The only reason I would want it rooted is for dsp manager and kernel. Other than that the official release is pretty damn smooth

I wanted rooted because of Cyanogenmod, other roms when I am in the mood for it, and good root apps

Anyone please help me

Can anyone help me how to get froyo on my telus desire. Can anyone direct me to correct link? I'm not sure which to get opendesire or leedroid and what's the difference or should I wait for telus froyo this month?

Anybody ?

If you don't want to wait for telus 2.2 update, then you have to root. Here's the link to [Guide]. so, just follow the instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763558
Are you rooted? If not, you need to root your phone.
Then look at the various froyo threads in the development forum and decide which one is for you.
No one can recommend a particular rom as everyone has their own tastes.
try this link http://www.t-mod.org/?p=111
But is telus official froyo and opendesire are they samething?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
No, it's totally different Telus 2.2 update is Htc's 2.2 update but it might have telus setting or programs. Opendesire has No sense it's basically stock android and it's an custom rom.
What about leedroid?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Can they all do app to sd?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Yes, app to sd is an feature that's part of froyo and Leedroid (sense rom) is also different then telus 2.2 update because it has some features and apps that htc didn't put in the update.
So leedroid is still froyo? So first I root the phone with link u gave me than download leedroid or opendesire ? And is TELUS desire branded or debranded?

Its just a maintenance release, it tweaks some things, upgrades your radios, upgrades the kernel, and adds a few new programs. If you want this update, search the forums for the latest sprint ruu and flash it...if i were you, i wouldnt bother with it, u wont notice anything. You won't see gingerbread till sometime early 2011

Not judging at all, but I'm just telling you it is very very easy to perm root, you already have visionary too. You can use this method, it is the one I used for perm root. This version is much less daunting, and for some reason, all the XDA root guides wouldn't work for me. Consider it... once you have perm root it makes your life a whole lot easier and you don't have to worry about it again.

I thought the official gingerbread was not rooted yet on the g2 yet and visionary isn't recommend anymore? Correct me if im wrong
Plus this should be in the general thread.

HTC EVO 4G update

I have done a search so save me the bull**** about doing a search is there an update for the HTC EVO 4G I am rooted running mik ROM 3.0 and haven't had a notification about an update but I have heard rumors about an update. If there is what android version is it and will it mess my root up?? Also is there a ROM that gives me the option to lock my phone and the only way to unlock it is by voice?? Just a few questions thanx for any help

Are you looking for the latest stock rooted rom? If so I'm pretty sure u can find it in the development section. Or are you trying to unroot and go back to stock? And if your running mikg I'm pretty sure you won't receive update notifications for the evo from sprint. Not sure what your trying to accomplish man.

Also nah I haven't heard of rom that allows you to unlock by voice.

Dont worry about updates from Sprint. As soon as anything would come out, Devs work them into their ROMS. There should not be anymore for us.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Yea, if you are running a custom rom, you won't get update notifications from sprint, as you arent running a sprint rom. Just check your rom's thread for any updates.

Correct. If you were on a sprint sense rom and took an OTA, there's a minimal chance you could lose root [I've seen it happen], so as said, check the thread of your rom for updates/patches.
