Scrambled. - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive got issues with Maintaining a data signal, programs crashing, and performance issues. The phone isn't modified etall. Will an easy soft reset (pulling battery for a couple minutes)aid? And do you lose data doing this?

Verizon vs T-Mobile (data hog)

I used to be in T-Mobile and switch to Verizon because of g.nexus.... i got the phone last Monday so its been 5days playing with this phone, I've notice that it consume a lot of my data for five days and I check the built in data usage and I've already used 1.12g.. I turn off all my email ,fb sync... I don't watch video just regularly checking mail and browsing some site..I also installed the onavo apps from market to tweak my data usage.
Can anybody confirm that there g.nexus also consume data a lot.

I use less than 50MB in a day of heavy use...
But I use all wifi at home and any time I happen to be sitting in or near a starbucks etc.
It's ALL about usage pattern.

Are You In A 4G Network? You May Be Thinking Your Using A Little Bit Of Data, But In Actuality Your Doing Stuff So Quickly That It Consumes More And More.
I hardly use the lte only use 3g... my old galaxy vibrant from tmobile doesn't consume like that... but thanks for the comment.

I read in some post that opera mini is good for browsing and it use small amount of data...and also the skyfire for video streaming...

I left the Google+ instant upload on, and when I transferred all my pictures over to my Nexus, I didn't realize until 650mb later that they were all being uploaded. Now I have Google+ set to upload on wifi only.

But besides that, I seem to be using the same amount if data as I did on my T-Mobile GS2

Have you taken a look at Data Usage under settings? Isn't always accurate, but gives a pretty good example of what's doing what.

This is the first thing you need to do. The phone itself just doesn't magically suck data--it's one of your apps.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
When you got the phone and signed into your Google account did all your previous apps download? That will consume a lot of data.

This is a misconception. 4G uses the same amount of data as 3G for the same task. It doesn't matter how much quicker it is. To use more data, you have to be doing more things, not the same things quicker.
I bought a non subsidized GNex with unlimited data on TMoUSA, so I don't even worry about how much data I use.

There's a glitch with the e4gt that I think was the issue with Los

Ok so whenever I reset my ram with task manager my radio crashes and when it comes back on it says roaming then jumps back to Sprint service. It also happens when using ##3282# wether I go to edit or view clicking on evdo will crash the radio. It did this on every build since I got the phone. Its nothing major like b4 when rebooting was the only way to get back in service. Just wanted to point it out bcuz I know its not normal and never experienced it with the og epic.

Its not a glitch that is supposed to happen. When u clear the RAM it stops all apps and processes from running. That us why that happens. Actually that was used to help get rid of LOS rather than rebooting cause it resets the radio.

Ok but why does it do it when accessing ##3282# and clicking on evdo from both the edit and view option? Also mind you it did this on my EG30 firmware when I got the phone. I disagree for the simple fact my phone always did this from day one. Clearing my ram always crashed my radio on eg30 so how is that new? Don't get me wrong I believe they did find a way for the phone to not have to reboot when it happens, but that right there is not it. Its a hardware flaw..

Also let me point out that my og epic used the same task manager and clearing out my ram would not crash my radio.

+1....clearing ram does not crash my radio
sent from the near past
Clearing apps and ram from the built in task manager does not, and never has, crashed the radio on my phone.
Did any of you two that never had this happen ever had a LOS occur before the fix? I'm no pro at being a super geek but I know when something seems screwy with my electronics...

I got my phone about three months ago approximately. It must of had eg baseband on it because it immediately updated to ek02. I don't know if what I think Los is, is actually what it is. I thought it was, when you woke up the phone, you would discover that the 3g and bars were gone and replaced with a circle with a slash through it. Am I mistaken?

Did your phone suffer from LOS before the fix?

Your radio will always reset after ##3282#.. It resets to apply any changes. Just the same as after a profile or prl update.
But should not after clearing apps in task manager.

No the heck it shouldn't! I'm not even applying any changes! All it takes is for me to click evdo from whichever option wether edit or view. Mind you my screen freezes fir a short min when I do go to the evdo setting. Maybe I should make a video bcuz i'm tired of people saying this is normal. I bet the people who said they radios do not crash when they clear the ram won't experience this issue. If this is normal why the same option on my og epic which I still have doesn't do this screwy behavior?

Ok that's good to know. I got the phone on December and I never got one either. However I did experience the no signal popping up whenever I shut the phone off every once in a while. Never happened again after I upgraded to ek02. I'm just trying to get some info b4 I decide to go to Sprint and swap it out.. Now if those other two guys who don't experience radio crashes when clearing ram would let me know if they ever had LOS prior to ek02 I'd gladly appreciate it. Its just the whole thing has me skeptical..

I don't recall where I said it was... Just looking for info b4 I decide if I should swap it out. If you don't have any feedback concerning the issue I really don't see your point for the post. But thank you anyways for your input.

I have both phones, and both perform the same way. As have the hundreds that I've troubleshot in the last three years at my store.
Sounds like you have heard your answer countless times, your just looking for feedback that follows what you want, not the actual facts.
Its not a crash. It will show a crossed out circle, flash connecting to voice(the 1x icon), and reconnect to 3G. If it isn't reconnecting, you have an issue. But, it will always reset.

1st I'll start off by saying two people already said they don't have this issue in this thread. 2nd how those the 1x icon show before reconnecting to 3g when Sprint disables the 1x from all their 4g phones from showing. And lastly I am glad you experienced the same behavior on all the phones you've worked on. I however didn't have that same experience. Anyways I already spoke to my friend (who works at a Sprint store) and he assured me his doesn't do it and if I would like I can come in to the store so he can order me a new one. Which I will do...
Edit: PS how dare you say all phones do it when I have my first epic 4g in my face and it is not doing this? Smh

No data issue fix that worked for me

Hi folks I recently got the gnex and from the get go I wasn't able to connect to the mobile data network this was both pre and post update to 4.02 and rooting and unlocking bootloader when all else failed I decided to try a factory reset and that fixed the issue for me no problem since. Just sharing my experience hope it helps someone.

I dropped my Galaxy Nexus.. I think I'm paranoid or my device is damaged now.. ??

I dropped my Galaxy Nexus yesterday and I think something is wrong with it.. or I am just very paranoid.
When I dropped my device, everything was fine.. but I noticed for pretty much the whole day, I was on the HSDPA (H or 3.5G) network. Normally, when I use my data, I am on HSPA (H+ or 4G) but I don't know what's happening...
I also noticed that the touch response/detection might be buggered up. For example, if I lightly and rapidly tap on the home button, it doesn't register them. I also noticed that I keep on getting the "Couldn't sign in. There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later" error, even though I am on the internet and everything was left the same.
I am on Wind Mobile by the way and I haven't gone past 5gb of data so they shouldn't have throttled the speeds...
What's going on?? What's wrong?? I need reassurance..
I can't comment too much here but I think there's a problem with Google servers cuz I get the same login error yet I still get emails, hopefully that's fixed by morning!
Hope you get everything figured out!!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Google's servers r down?? That's unheard of... but hopefully it all gets fixed soon...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Yup that's what I just read in the nexus 7 Q&A forum, I'd post a link but I'm not on my PC.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
When I did a benchmark test, the I/O came out really low. Like really really low....Not what I really expected but I still don't know if it has anything to do with the hardware... I so forgot to mention that I am on Cyanogenmod 10 nightlies.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I had problems to with the google servers and at first thought it was my Nexus but then read a lot of other people had the same problems. But the touch issue would concern me more. I would try flashing a stock rom and see if any issues persist. But hope nothing got damaged in the drop!
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
Could the drop also damage the signal..? What I mean is that I normally get 4G data speeds but I checked again today and I'm still on 3.5G and I had download speeds of about 0.01 Mbps and upload of 0.10...again I'm on wind mobile but this sort of thing never happens....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I just tested the touch response with my nexus 7 and it read all of the light and rapid touches... whereas I had to press to get the gnex to work.. and even when I did rapidly it still didn't detect all of them as I saw gaps where the home button animation "retreated". Anyone know what I can do...?? Am I just being paranoid??
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
OK I don't k ow why, but ever since I dropped it. The home button has been acting weird sometimes... a reboot usually fixes it but I think it has something to do with the hardware... which is weird.. but I dunno.
The things is, when I press the home button, it doesn't bring me back home. It just does its animation. The icons on the buttons flash, and the notification bar flashes... am I still covered by Google to get another device?? Please help...

Slow and laggy g2

So i have a htc tmobile g2 and i have been running cm7.2 for a while and been running great but aboit a month ago it got extreamly slow and lagguly and alwase over heats with aboit 5 minutes of use. How could i fix this
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
So many possibilities I don't know where to tell you to start.... Could be hardware such as a bad battery, not as likely so I would start with some tests to see if you have a poorly coded app or if something in the framework is conflicting. Possibly something on sdcard causing issues, could be an overclock issue.... Well can you remember anything you did around this time when it went bad, coincidences are rare enough that chances are you inadvertently did something.
Try pulling a log cat to debug the issue or get an app that can track issues for you, or just wipe SD, wipe phone, and reflash
