Just loaded up MikG 1.04 - currently the only issue I am having is with the camera. The entire screen is illuminated black with no picture when I go into the camera app. I can get out by touching the home button.
Have tried doing a full wipe and reflashing multiple times. Same result each time.
I have done some searches - most questions are regarding a camera white screen.
Thoughts?

Strange.....I've been running the same rom for a few days now with no issues. I would suggest going to the dev's site and look for an answer there. Links to his site are on his rom thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038967
I had the same issue. Not sure how I resolved it. It was either reflashing, or wiping the dalvik.
*Update* I think this may have been a huge coincidence and I may actually have a hardware problem. I have tried 5 different roms (2 Gb, 3 Froyo), reverted the radio, etc to everything I had 'pre 2.3' and I still have the black screen. At this point I am actually unrooted, and loaded up a RUU - same problem. Figured this is the way to go as my next step is going into a Sprint Service Center and hopefully walking out with a different Evo. Everything will look crispy clean and S-on to them
Still the whole process is a big PITA.
Took the Evo in to the local Sprint store - - they spent about an hour trying to RUU the thing, finally gave up because it kept automatically going into debug mode (which 2 of the employees were in disagreement whether it should be in debug mode or not!).
End result - - Brand new (non refurb) Evo is on it's way to the store - - should be in hand in a couple days.
I have no problems with it on this build but I did on one of the early froyo builds the solution was to clear the camera data and it was fine
Good to hear it was replaced with a new phone.

True that! In my past Blackberry days I would get nothing but refurbs. Going to pick it up tomorrow. I've seen a few people have gotten lucky and their new replacements still had 2.2 on them. I'm hoping for the same since it appears there's still no way to root the new hboot 2.16. Fingers crossed!

I used the instructions/links at the following thread to get myself to stock unrooted Froyo and then did the OTA updates to the current GB release before I took it in. I originally used Unrevoked to gain root.

The actual 2.2 RUU can be found here:

hell no we won't go!
There has to be another way, I rather not have to send my phone back when I've gone this far with it, even though I dont have to take it back to the store, because they always ask me just to mail it in, I would rather find a solution to the problem. It still takes pictures but its a pain.

If you're still able to take pictures, your problem is a bit different than mine was.
If you listen to the phone in a quiet environment when you press the camera app, normally you'll hear a slight 'click' when the picture comes on. (Assuming that is the shutter opening). My black screen evo had no such click.
I picked up my new Evo yesterday...complete with GB pre-installed. :-( When I did pick it up another employee asked the one I had been dealing with if he had swapped the cameras out on the unit. After hearing that, some quick searching on XDA brought me to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884448
So it may be possible that a Sprint repair center could swap cameras out for you.

I've recently lost the ability to pull down the notification bar in portrait mode. In landscape it works. I can get it to come down in portrait by pressing the menu button then the notification icon, when it's down using this method I can raise it up or down unless I take it all the way to the top. I updated to Fresh 3.5.0.1 and the new radios/wimax/pri/nv the night before. The pull down function worked that night and next morning. I dont' think the update caused this problem since I have reflashed the ROM to a previous version of Fresh and had same issue. I have also restored a backup of a different ROM. Just thought I'd mention that incase someone else has had a similar scenario.
I did drop my phone before this happened but don't no if this was the cause since I only checked to see if the screen was cracked after dropping and don't remember exactly when the bar stopped pulling down, I have no freaking idea.
It's unnerving to have the damn thing not working..
All other aspects of the touch screen seems to work. I downloaded a multi point tester from the market and the touch sensor(s?) seems a little off at the top as to how far up it will follow my finger compared to the bottom. Caused from dropping?
My knowledge of the makings behind the screen are nill so I haven't a clue to what dropping my phone could do to the touch screen things.
Btw has anyone tried to revert back to a pre 3.7 rom with the new radio/wimax/pri/nv and have their phone run like crap? Mine sure did.
Edit: nvm, found this "you cannot run any rom but 3.70 or aosp with pri 1.90"
Any suggestions?
Sounds like It's broken. Try flashing the stock with root 3.70 Rom and wipe everything. I'm going with it needs to be replaced.

does anyone know of the mechanics of the phone as to what may have happened to the touch screen when I dropped, I do think this was the cause of my delimma. did something maybe break or somethign shift? any ideas?
No one has taken one apart yet? How disappointing!
I suppose everyone is still in the 1yr warranty from HTC and not ready to go there.
You touch sensors are messed up. If you have TEP insurance, sprint will repair it free.

This happened to me after my gf thre my phone on the ground. The Sprint Reps won't know what happened, and they'll replace it for free. Make sure it's a new phone instead of refurbished since, refurbished have a tendency of doing the same thing after some time.
Guess it's time to unroot and return for repairs, thanks
Hey there guys. I really need some help now. I've been going at this for about 6 hours now and I really just cant do it alone anymore.
so here it is...
I just got my HTC evo and I attempted rooting it. The phone was working perfectly the day before. no problems what so ever. Today I youtubed how to root your evo and i came across this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OmPcT4pcks
I followed his exact steps but it didn't work at all. I got to the part where i installed the driver, i ran the unrevoked program and it failed to root my phone. i unplugged my phone then it started going all haywire and pushing stuff on its own, the 4 bottom buttons weren't working either when the keyboard pops up, whenever i try to type "o" "L" or "m" it presses all the buttons surrounding it besides the one i'm actually trying to press. So then i went to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
that one rooted my phone just fine. However the phone going haywire was an ongoing thing. I even flashed a new rom on there and it still goes haywire.
right now i'm running this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992402
I'm really just stuck right now. I've tried unrooting my phone and getting it completely back to just normal so i could start fresh But i find the right zip file. If anyone could please help me i'd really appreciate it. Looking forward to hearing from someone. thanks
Do u have a recovery installed? I would suggest using RA then use the format all zip to completely erase your phone and flash a rom again and see what you get.

and flash unrevoked s-on first.
What happens if you clean your screen really well? Mine only pushes random buttons if it gets a drizzle of water on it or something.
the screen is really clean and it still does it. The screen does all sorts of loopy stuff. like itll zoom out like your pinching it then zoom back in. slide around from screen to screen. I flashed a new rom on there once again and its still doing it. I tried a whole bunch of the supersonic shipped roms but none of them would work. Is this phone done for good? ='(
about software entire thing is this
android version 2.2
baseband version 2.15.00.11.19
kernel version 2.6.32.17-gee557fd
[email protected]#15
build number dark cocoa lll
software number dark cocoa lll
browser version webkit 3.1
PRI version 1.90_003
PRL version 60677
Well I can recommend a few things..
1. Backup, do a complete wipe, reflash the rom
2. Try a different kernel.
3. Downgrade to PRI&NV 1.77.
the problem is your touch screen is going bad, not the root and the root didnt cause it. take it to the store, they will a replacement screen in stock.

Exactly. I had the same problem, just unroot, make sure you have s-on, get rid of anything root related on your sd card (ie soff.log), and take it in

I managed to wear a rough spot on the screen from using Swype. Apparently I text very violently and a lot. The screen looks fine but if you run your finger along it you can feel where the keyboard pops up in portrait mode is rough, and if you clean it, the cleaning solution beads around that area. I bought an invisishield screen protector and that seemed to solve my problem, which sounds the same as what your experiencing. Going to the store and getting it fixed is probably a better option, I've just had to fight with Sprint in the store on what they considered "physical damage" on my last phone, and the screen protector seemed like a easier solution for the time being.
When activating the camera on stock rom, rooter stock rom or custom rom the camera will lock up the phone, screen will turn off and a battery pull must be done to get the phone rebooted. Doesn't seem to matter the rom. Still the same effect.
Back story:
So my sister in law came to visit with her nice new shiny sgsII (t989). She got it from her friend who happens to be a tmobile salesmen in Seattle. She was told that the camera didn't work cause he downloaded something. But took it anyways (since he is her friend and she got it for free).
I thought I'd take a crack at it. Tried a factory reset. Same issue. Found that it was stock 2.3.5 and NOT rooted. Thought maybe a new camera app would fix it thinking the app would hook into the os/hardware and not the default camera.apk.... Same deal.
Last step I tried before coming here was to install a custom 2.3.6 ROM. It got to the standard camera screen but with nothing coming from the camera (black screen) and locked up before needing a battery pull.
I've come to the conclusion that her friend either tried to flash a different cameras firmware on the t989 or dropped it in the toilet OR BOTH!
What do you guys think the issue is?
Why would he want to flash different camera firmware?
I'm stumped. She is here on vacation and that phone is her camera.

how does one flash a camera firmware?
So this happens on every camera app?
Don't know how one would flash the camera firmware. It was an educated guess. From the info I was told "he downloaded something and now the camera doesn't work" is the only thing I could conclude from that.
On the Samsung Vibrant people would use alternative modified camera.apk or use custom kernels to get the front facing camera working but never seen of anyone changing firmware before.
I have tried technically 4 different apps. one from the stock rom, 2 from the market. PUdding camera and the other I don't recall off the top of my head. They both did the same thing. Which brings me to believe it is either the driver (which could be fixed by a different kernel) or the hardware. Come to think of it, it wasn't rooted when she got it. So I doubt he flashed anything. Unless he odin'd something....
Just got done talking the the previous owner. Turns out all he did was installed some official Google apps from the market place when this happened. Doesnt seem like he did anything wrong. He told me of two other issues that started at the same time as this one. Video playback will reboot the phone and web video reboot as well.
Got a workaround for the video playback: installed mx player and set it to render A/V in software mode. Not the best solution, but it works.
Online videos crash. IE any site with heavy flash. Updating flash didnt solve it nor an uninstall/reboot/reinstall.
That's where I'm at. 1 step forward 2 steps back...
Hate to do this, but..
Bump
I might have reached my phone's flash limit! lol, unfortunately my camera started acting up when I flashed an old EVOlved ROM. Had all kinds of purple/pink/green colors in it and a couple days later it only shows blank white no matter what kernel I try. If anyone knows the answer to the following questions please comment:
1. Software or hardware? Could this be a physical issue? It looks clean to the naked eye but it took a nasty fall a few weeks ago.
2. What caused it? It started after flashing a 2.2 rom but I use VR_SUPERWIPE and didn't need to flash a custom kernel (maybe updated kernel from a newer rom going back to an old release? I dunno)
3. Possible fixes? I'm open to suggestion. No insurance, had it more than a year, I can't upg until September.
I'm spam the Thanks Button for anyone with a decent suggestion! haha
Could be a bad download causing the camera to bork. First, install a camera app from the market and see if that works. If thats successful, then that tells you it is a bad download and just redownload the rom and verify the md5 checksum.

Probably not a bad download, it worked last time I used the ROM but that was many moons ago. Great idea on the camera app, unfortunately the main camera is still busted while the front facing works fine. The problem persists on every ROM I've tried since 3 days ago. I should mention the front facing camera was never an issue, just the main
The same thing is happening to my Transformer Prime Tablet... No fix for it yet...
What you might wanna try is taking apart your Evo and remove your camera and put it back in. I now it sounds risky but its actually really easy.
It's from the fall. I had the same thing when I shattered my screen. You need to get a new phone or have the camera fixed itself. I just got a new phone.

i'd take it apart and disconnect and reconnect it... see if that helps. might as well, its really easy.
Hi, I'm a new user, I tried to post on the energy rom thread but am not allowed to.
Also, googled the issue a bit and as far as I searched didn't find similar issues.
I recently bought a htc touch pro2 and flashed it with energy rom. after flashing it, the camera doesn't start (click camera and nothing happens). also i notice when accessing settings, the camera and video tabs don't display (click multimedia > pictures and videos > menu > tools > options)
I am guessing it's some setting that should be changed, but i can't figure out how to do it.
Can you help me?
thanks.

Are you sure it worked on the stock rom? You might try flashing back to stock, and then reflashing the custom rom. Might be a bad flash. Random things happens sometimes.

It worked. I took some pictures.
In the meantime I flashed again and still doesn't work.
Another thing I noticed is sometimes the windows key/button/pictogram stops working, as in, I click it and nothing happens, but the phone works fine
I also flashed it (again) with a stock rom - seems to be the same I had before having started this whole mess. With the stock rom, there's no camera application at all.
I'm definitely doing something wrong but not sure what.

If the stock rom does not have a camera app, then how did you take pictures?
Which version of the TP2 do you have?
I am wondering if you got a flaky phone.

You have an excellent point. What the original rom and the most recently flashed rom have in common is a lot of at&t icons, so I assumed they're the same.
I don't know how to identify the version of the TP2. I bought a T7373, according to the invoice. Active Sync says I have a T7377.
Somehow I believe this whole mess is my fault, rather than the phone being flaky.
It all started because the old touch diamond 2 has the start button in the bottom left corner whereas this one had the start button in the top left corner. I wanted my button back in its place, so i started digging for a windows 6.5.3 rom...

I did. Before flashing the phone for the first time.
I googled the IMEI as well. According to the IMEI no, it's a HTC Vogue (?).
Anyway, I believe I cleared the version issue, it's HTC Rhodium 100 = T7373.
I think I cleared The missing camera issue as well, meaning that with or without icon, all roms include camera.exe.
Are there any third party apps that check connectivity to the camera (or other camera.exe implementations)?
Thanks,

The Rhod100s are the bastard phones that don't work right half the time with any custom software. They are known for that.
Unfortunately you are on your own with that one. I had the Rhod400. Good luck.
I solved the problem.
Basically, these phones come in two flavors: with one cam and with two cams. The majority has 2 cams and the majority of roms are for 2 cams.
I suspected this might be the issue when I noticed in a comparison chart that T7373 has either one cam or two, also wrote a tiny app to return the exception code and message and the exception returned was "Unknown error" which I then googled and got either bad firmware or bad hardware.
In the meantime my son broke the display of the phone, so I had to fix it, and I also bought a spare stripe for the front phone, the one with the second cam, since it was quite cheap, and I had to fix the phone anyway.
Surprise. Now everything works fine.
So, the moral is, Rhodium is a very nice phone, with a good firmware, just that you need to flash the right firmware for the right model.
I'm interested in any information on how the camera is initialized, maybe I find time tomake changes to one of the versions for the less-lucky people who only have one cam.
