It seems as if data for sprint in the Houston area is out, 3G at least. I am just wondering if it is just me, like the title says, or if others in the area are experiencing the same outages? It started a little while after lunch, maybe earlier though, I was on WiFi at the house.

3G out or very slow in central tx (Austin). I've been using 4G or Wifi.
Slow 3g in Houston, 4G connects but data does squat.

Have the same thing going on up here in Denver. I have an EVO and my wife has an EVO Shift. Both are experiencing the same problems. Started sometime around 10/10:30ish MDT.

Yep it's down here in Austin, Both my friend and I can't get on 3g or 4g on EVO(rooted) and Epic. I just rooted my phone too, I thought I messed something up haha.

I thought I had messed something up myself, I was on virus kingdom and data was working. Went back to my deck rom nandroid and data was borked. I wiped-flashed all sorts of stuff, updating prl's and profile's, lol. Then I did the verizon hack and data returned My wife just got home and hers is messed up as well, LG Optimus S.
Maybe that new network vision is being turned on, Yeah Right!
data is okay in san antonio, got on 4g earlier for a bit...some were saying all of tx but its patchy
Forgot to mention, we have an Airave device at the house and 3G works perfectly. However, the moment I step outside and walk down the street so I'm out of range of the Airave, 3G doesn't work. (South-western Denver area)
From Google'in around I see its out in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, perhaps more!

Got my Evo today - what fun! Its my very first smartphone and so far I think its great. With 4 bars on 3G I get 2.0-2.4 mbps down. With 1 bar on 4G I get about the same speed. I'll need to hunt around and see how 4G signal strength varies with position. My neighbor 1 block away gets at least 4 mbps. I guess this variability is the nature of Sprint's WiMax network?
I've seen lots of posts with people reporting statistics on time spent on/off, awake/asleep, amount of data downloaded, what apps are using what resources, etc. What tool does one use to collect this information?
You can get some information through the about phone; up time, awake time, battery use etc etc.
As far as the 4G, I think it's more of it being such a new network. Was just out back taking a breather and I can get 1 bar of 4G. 2-4 Mb pretty consistently ... sometimes it drops, pulled in 5 on a couple speedtests. The 3G though, it's weird because I'm lucky if I can even get 2 Mb. Dunno though, gotta assume the stability of the 4G will only get better. Figure I'm right on the brink even though the coverage map appears to have it bleeding out past me. In time I suppose.
Baltimore is the oldest (and I assume most built-out) 4G market area that Sprint has in the US. I was able to connect to 4G on the first day I had the Evo. Then did the OTA update. I've been unable to connect to 4G ever since. I switch the 4G radio on and wait, the icon at the top of the screen always says 3G. Am I doing something wrong? Is there somewhere else where I need to enable 4G? Anyone else having trouble accessing 4G since the OTA update?
I have also been having some problems with my 4g. I had no problems with 4g until the update.

I've had my EVO in Baltimore since Launch Day - have not done the OTA yet (rooted) and my 4G was working fine until this morning. Wonder if there is some sort of outage today.
All I get is Scanning -> Connecting to Sprint -> Obtaining IP -> Scanning.
This has happened in Baltimore and Annapolis.
Also, I have hit 5mbps download near the Beltway and I-95.
Dude!? Where in Bmore? I'm over in Ellicott City and I get maybe 600kbps on 3g or 1200 in Samsclub Catonsville and at BWI...

Oddly though I've been getting "network connection lost" and google maps just stops and refuses to download any tiles. Pandora freezes too...

I've searched the web and this seems to be the only place that 4G problems have been reported in Baltimore.

I'm downtown. This morning (7/2) I checked (outdoors) near Camden Yards and at the Inner Harbor. No 4G. Maybe its just coincidence that there's a network problem just after the OTA? I'll keep checking....
So, I called Sprint. As expected, they claimed maintenance in my "neighborhood". As I mentioned above, I've been in Baltimore and Annapolis today with no 4g. I have a hard time believing that they took out the whole area for maintenance. However, he did claim that it should be back up by 7pm.
I'm in Ellicott City and get about 4.5 on 4G and 600-1.0 on 3G.
I work right on the edge of the 4G coverage (Clarks Ace Hardware) so I'm usually at 1-2 bars. If I go 1 block east I get full reception, but if I go 100ft. west it completely drops 4G (route 144 & 40).
Checked for 4G connectivity this morning (inside my brick rowhouse, near the baseball stadium in Baltimore). I've got a weak 4G signal again - and measured 4 mbps bandwidth down. Good enough for me. I'll take some more measurements around town and see if there's any place with a stronger signal.
I spent the whole day yesterday at the harbor, 4G never connected once. Fail :/
Went to Sprint at Inner Harbor. They were getting 2 bars of 4G in the store, and I was getting none. The tech there noticed that I had turned off the "Location" switch (which allows GPS to update applications of phone's location). I did that because I didn't want GPS radio on all the time (save battery), and because I thought it would give me a bit more privacy. Tech said for 4G to work at its best - need to turn Location -ON. Reluctantly I turned it on, and now I'm consistently getting 1 or 2 bars of 4G around the Baltimore downtown area, with 3.8 - 4.5 mbps bandwidth down.
SO - in order to use that battery hogging 4G radio, one needs to turn on yet another battery sucking radio? Wow - are others in 4G markets finding that 4G works better with GPS on and Location on? Or was that tech just grasping for straws...?

interesting! Don't know if any of you have tried sensorly map... kinda sweet... it signal strength maps 4G and 3g and 1xrtt via crowdsourcing... and lets you compare coverage btw sprint/att/vzw/tmob...
But I'm worried how accurate it is due to several issues:

1) I contributed data and never saw the map update
2) data will be skewed as GPS needs to be ON for map to work - so it should report better 4g coverage than actually exists AND
3) Most people who contributed seemed to be wardriving (or just leaving it on while driving)... and from what I've read wimax isn't that good at mobile or handoffs...
If it is accurate... this is not going to be a fun 2 years... SPRINT coverage looks like ****! even compared to tmob...
Any input from anyone smarter?
btw - I'm moving to a boat down in inner harbor... anyone have any results from the water?

so im in downtown baltimore (otterbein area, right off the inner harbor), and both my wife and i just got evo's on friday. neither of us can get a 4g signal anywhere, unless we're standing literally across the street from the sprint store in the inner harbor. is this usual? is there some kind of outage right now? sprint was entirely useless when i called tech support, and i got transferred around about 11 times before being told they'll look into it and call me back tomorrow.

Make an appointment to speak with a tech at the Inner Harbor store - sounds like there's something wrong with your phone or settings. Coverage in downtown Baltimore can vary a lot with location. I'm in Ridgely's Delight (less than a mile from you) - and I've been getting between 3.5 and 5.0 mbps down.
Anybody in Northern Colorado, or anywhere in Colorado, had success in getting some 4G coverage?
I just flashed to Baked Snack from cm6 to create a backup I can use while I'm in Vegas this weekend so I could test out 4G finally and was able to connect to 4G from my basement!
Ran some speed tests and performs better than the 3G here. I actually normally get 3G speeds in the 2000's at UNC which has a Sprint tower on one of the residence halls. At my house it's rather slow, the 826 download is 3G, the rest are 4G except the wifi.
Anybody have any luck in this area?
I am in fort Collins and have not managed to get 4G anywhere around here or in loveland. I am not really checking very often to tell you the truth. I hear there are areas in denver. Did you get 4g somewhere in northern colorado?

Yes i live in Greeley, about 3 miles west of UNC and that's where I got those results from.
Ive never even bothered to turn it on before either until recently just to make sure the radio would work.
I'll keep it on during the day and let.you know how things are working.

I guess I am just going to have to start randomly testing around here. I did not think it was in this area so I have not bothered even trying that much.
Try out Map Viewer on the market (Sensorly), you can see where other users are getting Wimax 4g in your area, you can also let it track where you're getting 4g. Also tracks GSM, CDMA, and wireless connections.
Some 4g in the downtown Denver area along I-25, US 6, up and down Alameda, Sheridan and Wadsworth.
Short Sprint outage in Greeley today = 4g coverage around 36 and 47th (the only area I have been in so far speeds as tested with Speedtest.net app = 1.5 down 800 up.
I've got 4G at home now. it has been off and on, but I've got it at home and at my office.
Denver Tech Center definitely gets it...haven't tried any other places.
Clear appears to have turned on their 4G system in South Florida yesterday and I can see that they have from viewing their "solid" coverage on their CLEAR app available from the android market.
My question is.... are you guys down here in the South Florida area getting 4G on your Evo's?
If Clear is switched on, shouldn't the Sprint 4G be turned on too? I ask because I get no 4G on my phone anywhere on the east side of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach for that matter. I'm afraid my phone's 4G radio is dead...maybe from the dreaded missing RSA certs after rooting. Please let me know what you guys are experiencing down here with 4G since CLEAR switched the system on yesterday so I can make a determination if my phone is dead and have to go stand in line at Sprint tomorrow.

I was just in Ft. Lauderdale last week and I was getting full 4G signal with about 7Mbps down and 3Mbps up.

Sometimes 3g data speed is so slow it takes ages just to load Google home page :/ any input would be helpful. I don't know if it's my modem affecting the data speeds or if it's the service.
Where are you? By inland empire, do you mean the great plains of the America (Empire)?

Yes inland Empire in California. Any of you experiencing bad service? I go to school in Ontario and I get phenomenal 4G speeds. But I'm at school so I'm not always able to do what I want on my phone. After School I go home in Moreno Valley, and the service there is just horrible.. Almost to the point where I want to cancel my 2 year agreement. And I have been a loyal sprint customer for 8 years.
I live in the LA area and i get good speeds everywhere except in my house i dont get 4g and 3g is like dial up for me. Check out my speedtest below. I have wifi in my house so ehh no biggy.

Im willing to wait for LTE to start spreading in LA i still got along time before i can upgrade so in the mean time i can deal wth it sprint unlimited is why im here and no longer with Tmobile.
travel to Long Beach frequently, and my 3g is actually fairly decent. around 300-600 kbps? thats 2x faster than what im getting in phoenix... i hope its not getting bad as part of Network Vision, heading that way in 2 weeks...
I live in the I.E. and yes sprint has horrible coverage in alot of places. That's the reason I got a airwave free for my home,cuz I get almost no service otherwise. If you look at the tower upgrade thing it says my area is gonna get a few enhancements over the next 6 months. So you should check your area and see if moval or the cities/places you frequent have planned upgrades before you cancel

Ya my wife and I both get pretty crappy service in Riverside. I was just in La this last weekend and was so envious of the 4g and the full bars of 3g I had! I'm lucky to pull 2-3 bars most of the time

Yes I get good voice reception, do you mind filling me in on what that is? I usually have data off when I go home. Cause there's no point at all having it on if it takes 5mins to load just the Google home page. When I'm in Ontario I have phenomenal 3g and 4G speeds. But once I hit Moval it just takes a dump. It's very very aggravating..

I called Sprint the other day to ask what my ETF fee would be. The representative started arguing with me about T-mobiles fake 4G and how its not a real solution. I came back with two things first "What 4g? I dont have any 4g where I live. I don't even have 3g. The speeds I am getting are Edge speeds" and then Secondly "T-Mobiles fake 4g is real and tangible now. Its also faster then any 4g speeds I have ever clocked on sprint in Brea, Long Beach, Sacramento, Chicago and Manhattan. The question is, "Fake 4g Now or Real 4g Never?"
My friend has a Comet (Google it, its a pathetic entry level android phone) he is able to get consistent 2.5Mbps down anywhere in my town. Also a Coworker has the Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile. Clocking around 14Mbps on T-Mobiles fake 4g network. I never saw more then 7 on Sprints 4G, Ever.
The Airave is a joke. You essentially turn your internet into a cell tower. think about this.... you pay sprint for service that you provide yourself by using the internet that YOU pay for...... hmmm seems like a cop out for them to offer that as a fix all for their poor towers.
I use to love Sprint back in the days of the Hero. When I could easily get 1.2 Mbps down anywhere I went. I dont know if they are just overloaded in the area, or the towers are in need of some TLC but I just cant take it anymore. GSM here I come.

Ya I know what you mean. I have friends here in Moval and they have Verizon and T mobile and they get great service. Haven't asked them on the 4G service though. I did some research on the towers and noticed there aren't many sprint towers here.. They're all towards the west... :/ LA being the best spot for 4G... Wish I lived there.

I just remembered that.. I went flash crazy this month.. And forgot to update my PRL. I've always read that it's good to do that after flashing a rom. And about the modem.. I'm on El29. So far that I know it's the latest and "greatest" modem SO far.. Sorry for the noob question.... But what EXACTLY is PRL. And why should we update it after flashing a rom?
Anyone else in the South Florida area not getting any 4G service today. Edge works fine and I have phone service working but my 4G speeds don't exist today. I checked with T-Mobile and confirmed I have only used 2gb out of my 5gb plan with Unlimitted Data. I also have flashed different 2 radios and 3 ROMs to make sure it was not the phone.
I was having the same problem in Orlando this morning.. All the sudden everything started working again about an hour ago.. I think it's just a service outage or something.
In Ft. Lauderdale they were updating for 3 days straight last week. My signal read "G".
I think it means 1g service.

Not 100% positive to the slow 4g, late last week TM UN/officially launched the iPhone support in the las vegas area.
actually TM has been reframing thier 1700/1900Mhz and they now are near the 1800Mhz in areas.
What this also does is offer 3G & 4G HSPA+ to those that have unlocked iPhones
The reframe/refarming it freeing up the 1900Mhz for the LTE service

Not sure if this may slow down some service areas while they are working on the reframe?
If a lot of phones make connections to the same station simultaneously, there will be very obvious slow down. My case is the football home game day at my University when I can not have data connection at all, but voice service is still good. Because there are full of thousands of people with phones connecting to the same station
Other places like at a crowded beach will have the same problem.

Im getting that issue for 5days already. The data speed in my neighborhood was great until last Monday. 4G icon shown, but speed is almost zero. However, EDGE works fine. I dont know wats going on with them. Its very annoying.
