Force close sync with Google account - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I've been having this force close issue on Google account sync ever since the latest HTC update.
" the com.google.process.gapps have stopped unexpectedly, please try again later" it will keep popping up this message unless I untick contacts and calendar in account settings. The only way to reset the account is reset phone to manufacturing settings.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I have the same behavior with Revolution HD ROM, but appears after MyBackup contact restore. I discovered that I have lot of same contact sync by google, HTCsense.com, and HTC sync, I found some contats diplicated 6 times.
I tried to delete all duplicated and keep only one of each (from 550 to 152 contacts) but the I have always google contact sync crash (I should have only 8 gmail contacts, all other are on the phone)
I don't understant what happens, still have the problem

Try deleting your account then adding it again.

You can't remove the main google account without factory reset / wipe.
The solution I found is:
- Sync contacts/calendar with HTC sync and outlook
- Disconnect the phone
- Remove duplicated contacts/meetings in outlook
- Delete HTCsense account on HTCsense website (HTC sense contains backup of contacts but you can't access it)
- Create HTCsense account again on website (to remove risk of conflics)
- Check and solve on google web gmail duplicate contacts and calendar
--> Now your Contact/agenda sources are cleaned (Outlook + google)
- Factory reset / Full Wipe and install again Rom
- Sync you phone with google
- Run it some hours and check no conflicts or problems
- Synchronize cantacts and meetings with outlook
- Run it some hours and check no conflicts or problems
- Restore SMS/MMS, call history, wakeup, missing apps via backup tool like (titanuim backup or myBackup)
-- > Now it synchronize perfect without crash
--> For me the conflict was the restore of my contacts and calendar via myBackup. I had long history because with WM, I already had lot of duplication due to the many ROM that I tried (outlook sync doesn't like time zone difference for all day events and duplicates it). I had the same problem with Android because with some Rom it doesn't recognize the source of contacts/meeting and assumes that is different one. I finished with 5 times the same contacts/meetings in my phone with google/tweeter/facebook/outlook mixed... The sync became crazy.
Now my sources are cleaned and I exported it via outlook (calendar and contacts) in pst to avoid the heavy work of removing crazy sync mixing.
Good luck

[Q] HTC Synch no work with Froyo Outlook Calendar

Ok..finally got my Desire to Froyo..have been quite happy until I noticed that I can no longer upload Calendar updates to my PC's Outlook calendar.
I can make changes on the my Windows 7 PC's Outlook Calendar and have that go to my Desire but any Calendar changes on my Desire will not synch up to my PC's Outlook calendar. There are no problems with synch'ing contacts. Yes, I used the PC Synch calendar on the Desire.
This wasn't a problem before. Is HTC Synch not 100% compatiblewith Froyo?
Thanks for any insights.
PS:
1) Tried uninstalling/reinstalling HTC synch - no change there.
2) I've also noted that recurring entries in the calendar (eg: Birthdays) are getting duplicated on the days they occur (ie: 2 entries in the same day). Also, there are duplicate contacts being produced too.
sorry i'm not going to be much help here but i agree that htc sync is unpredictable at best. i constantly have to reboot my pc or phone or both to get sync to work and now my contacts have stopped syncing. again.
you might want to search for a leak of the updated version of htc sync to see if that helps. i'm assuming that it was pulled for a valid reason but it might be worth a try ...

I also have the same behaviour, new entries in the phone calendar are not added to the outlook calendar despite being flagged as "PC Sync"
For the birthday thing, I think that it is to do with the info you have stored against a contact in their contact card in outlook, if you have a date for their birthday in the details section of the contact, then sync repeatedly adds it to the calendar for you, even if it is there already
I have the same problem. So I've moved all Calendar entries in Outlook to temporary forder, then from Desire removed Outlook account, manually deleted all Outlook calendar entries in Desire's Calendar (they have left there, despite of account deletion) , then recreated Outlook account (Calendar after all these steps synced OK), and moved back all Calendar entries in Outlook from temporary folder back to main. This solved the non sync problem.
After all I've talked with Exchange specialist. He said, that for some reason Calendar database in Desire become corrupt, and after that the syncing become unimpossible.
Ok, I've managed to fix this (I think anyway!) works for me with outlook 2003, Couple of steps:
Step 1 (optional) gets your missing items onto your PC:
In HTC sync Manger (on PC) go into "settings" then calendar, then click properties, untick deafult calendar and then when selecting the folder to sync with, create a new calendar "temp" or something
Now sync with that calendar: for me this meant that everything on my phone (including the items not uploading before) now goes into this new calendar
Now go back and revert to syncing to the original calendar (the default calendar or me) and lo and behold the missing items now sync up to that too
I thought this was everything sorted, but new items created in the phone still don't sync up to outlook....
so Step 2:
On phone, go into settings, applications, manage applications, all
then for calendar and calendar storage apps go in and "clear data", this will leave you with an empty calandar on your phone, but don't panic...
in HTC sync manger (on PC) go into settings and unselect contact syncing (otherwise the PC will overwrite contact info)
Then go into "repair" and select option for PC to overwrite phone
you can now reselect contacts to sync too under settings menu in HTC sync
Having done this, everything is back on my phone and (for now at least) new appointment items created on the phone sync up correctly too
Hope this helps someone,
P
THANKS!
GENIUS.
popkid's solution works. HTC should employ you..none of their ideas worked, your's did.
1000 cheers for taking the time to work out and post the solution!
Caution HTC Sync 3.0.5422
(Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30)
3.0 does not have the feature to do a repair - force copy clean from handset or PC.
For me, sych has resulted in a large number of yearly recurring all day events being duplicated and copied with a one hour adjustment - the new ones run from 1:00-1:00 and thus span two days.
I am back using 2.0.33 (which is not without bugs either)

[Q] ActiveSync - Failed To Create Account

Hello, we appear to have a problem:
1) HTC desire, unrooted, 2.2 Froyo
2) Exchange ActiveSync 2003
All was working fine until the Exchange server crashed. Upon repairing the Exchange server, HTC would no longer sync on a particular user account, it goes through the motions (certificate etc.) then shows you what you want to sync, then upon pressing "Finish" it comes up with "Failed to create account, please try later"
Deleted account, recreated. Factory data reset. Formatted SD card. Downgraded to previous official HTC rom (downgraded hboot of course). Upgraded to Froyo again.
None of those worked.
Somewhere on this phone is a legacy setting relating to this particular user which is not getting deleted. Question is:
Where?
The phone will activesync with other domains, other users in the same domain of the user that failed. Our 2 other Desires can sync with the user that does not work on the Desire in question.
In other words, this particular desire has kept some data relating to the user and activesync on it.
Any ideas? Or else, any other suggestions to completely format/wipe/erase all data on the phone?
Adrian.
HTC Mail App
OK, the corrupt data seems to be "remembered" by the HTC Mail app somewhere.
I installed the standard Android email app and it synced, no problems.
However, the standard Android app does not allow me only to sync the Calendar and Contacts, no emails, which is what this user needs.
Any ideas on how to delete any persistent data that the HTC Mail app keeps? Or even to uninstall and reinstall the HTC Mail app?
Adrian.
Possible Update
My HTC desire started failing to (Active)sync the calendar - mail/contacts fine. Deleted account, recreated, cleared mail app data, no luck, error syncing calendar.
Got pissed off, deleted account and went through all the applications, noting any that had any of the words Calendar, Mail, Sync or Active in them and force closed them then cleared the data/cache off them.
Rebooted phone.
Calendar syncing again.
I have yet to try this on the phone that started this thread - we are going to retore the Exchange server information store back to the day before it crashed as there are some peculiar errors happening. This may fix the issue, will keep you posted.
Adrian.
Restore of Exchange solved it.....

[Q] How do you remove the "PC Sync" Calendar?

Does anyone know how to remove the "PC Sync" calendar from an Android phone (HTC Desire) created when you use the HTC Sync software?
I've disabled it so the entries don't show in my calendar but I think that other apps (Calendar Snooze in particular) is still picking it up.
Thanks in advance.
I'd be interested in this as well.

I've a very similar problem!
I'd like to set my calendar entries (and contacts) to default to the google calendar and to stop asking me which one I want to use!
There is no direct way to avoid P Sync.
You can do it indirectly as below
1. Open you outlook and make a back up of your Calendar.
2. Delete all the entries in active calendar of outlook.
3. Start sync now.
4. Now the entries in you mobile are completely removed.
5. Change the sync option in HTC Sync app for Calendar as NO.
6. Sync again. Verify that you mobile doesnot contain any outlook entries.
It done now.
You can restore outlook from the backup and continue....
thats bad answer as we cannot remove calneder enteries from computer just to keep them on mobile phone, need some good answer for removing pc sync option to keep google calender sync on desire hd
it's not a bad answer...think again
1. Open your outlook and make a back up of your Calendar.
2 to 6 as above
STEP 7 - RESTORE YOUR OUTLOOK CALENDAR FROM BACKUP
hey listen - i synchronised very first time my desire hd with computer via htc sync and desire has extracted all mine calender enteries including old ones which i also had deleted from computer, i factory resetted my desire hd and than i stopped using htc sync tried syncing with google account which i exported computer outlook and imported in google account. but doing that ways also PC sync option is still selected under calender settings which is making ma lyf difficult by kepping those old enteries which i did very first time!!
can someone help me out with a solution to remove pc sync while using google calender, also note that i have factory resetted my device and not connecting to computer anymore but still its showing me old enteries which i connected with computer very first time. Please help me out as this is really frustrating!!
Solved
Clear calendar storage data in Settings>Applications. Delete your mail account (if you have exchange or something) and re-add. Google is still fine. Then re-sync OTA.
Another solution
Better late than never... Try: Settings > Apps > All > Calendar Storage > Clear Data. Then just re-sync all your calendars except the PC Sync/Exchange
This sadly does not work for me on my Lenovo M7 tablet. The 'PC Sync' account remains despite me clearing the calendar storage data. Is it tied to some other app?

[Q] Delete ALL phone contacts but NOT Google

Hi guys,
I seem to have cocked up my contacts through a load of synchronising and messing about.
I now need to delete ALL my phone contacts but NOT the Google contacts (because I want to import the Google contacts after).
The problem is, everytime I delete a phone contact (ie. Have only PHONE visible in contacts list and delete) it also deletes from Google (even though Google is hidden).
This is probably because they're linked contacts... but I have HUNDREDS of linked contacts, also with Facebook etc to show the photos. It took hours setting up all the links and I don't want to break them.
What do I do? :-S I'm really confused.
Thanks
Matt
PS: This came about because I'd accidentally been adding NEW contacts to Google rather than my phone. All I wanted to do was get the 10 extra contacts from Google onto my Phone also (then link them). So i exported the Google contacts to SD card and then imported them to phone from SD Card. It created duplicates on the phone (so now there's 2x more contacts listed in the Phone storage).
Did you try disabling synchronize for google account before deleted action?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
thanks. Tried and it doesn't help. I disabled all synchronisation, unchecked Contacts in the Google account... and it still deleted it.
Re-enabled sync and hoped it would still have a copy on the Google account but it hasn't, it really deleted it.
:-S
But you've the vcf file from your last backup process in your sdcard right?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
yep i just exported google contacts to SD card so I have a copy.
I just want to delete ALL phone contacts and re-import.
When I delete a phone contact though it deletes the Google contact also! And god knows what happens to the Facebook contact (not risking deleting one that's linked to Facebook)
Hej,
When you initailly set up you phone, you setup HTC sync & Google Sync by default. 1. Disable Google Sync, it will delete/not show all the synced google contacts
2. Create a Google Exchange account & sync.
3. Enable linked contacts with facebook (or you can disable facebook sync altogether as I did so as not to have duplicate entries (having mobile number of John twice)
Hope this helps
PJS
thanks for the replies guys.
I've fixed it as follows...
Deleted Facebook account.
Deleted Facebook for HTC Sense account
Deleted all contacts (also from Gmail)
Restarted phone
Imported SD card to Google
Resync'd
Added Facebook accounts
Relinked everything.
What a ball ache! :-S
Thanks again

SERIOUS PROBLEM: Google Contacts Sync generates xxx amount copy of each contact!

Hi all.
My set-up: LG G4, Lollipop 5.1, not rooted.
Google Account, Outlook.com, LinkedIn, Skype etc.
The proplem is that during my night-time, Google Contacts Sync starts syncing my contacts (to somewhere; the are NOT visible in my Google account) generating xxx copies of each contact. I have no exact timeline when this has started to realize, but by using Simpler Contacts 5.0.2 (paid version) I was able to clean that horrible mess (took overall ~5 hours with 55.000+ contacts).
Currently I have disabled all contacts syncing.
So should I:
1) Copy all my contacts to Google (already exported cleaned .vcf to my SD card) and import that to Google account?
2) Do something else, what?
What an earth is causing that!?!?
Much appreciated.
BR,
Timo
Any hints / thoughts on this?
Anyhow I will wait for overnight now to see if it still happens even that now Google contacts sync of OFF.
Additional wonder: I can not find those contacts synced to either my Google.com or live.com (Outlook.com) accounts, so it seems they to replicate locally on my phone... Which makes this even more weird.

Try delete all contacts from your gmail then syncing once with phone, disabled auto sync, if you have update your contacts, just sync via account and sync in settings--->google>your email>contacts

OK, still definitelly NOT working. What I did:
SCENARIO 1:
0) Ensured that all contacts syncs from my Phone were off
1) Cleared (= deleted) all contacts from my Google.com account
2) Started my [email protected] Contacts syncing from my phone
SCENARIO 2:
0) Ensured that all contacts syncs from my Phone were off
1) Cleared (= deleted) all contacts from my Google.com account
2) Imported the exported .csv file into my Google.com account
3) Started my [email protected] Contacts syncing from my phone
-->>
RESULT on BOTH sync scenarios:
NOTHING seems to sync to my Google.com account BUT on my phone contacts start to copy themselves... Generating duplicates, triplicates...
Syncing is working OK for other parts: various E-mail accounts, Calendar etc.
My analysis: my Phone's google.com CONTACTS account is NOT somehow connected to my account on google.com - weird...
I did NOT yet do this (advise from https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42641):
Clearing out the Contacts Storage. Settings > Application Manager > All, went into "Contacts Storage", force stopped it, and cleared the data. When I went to re-sync, Google Contacts started syncing again.
I am afraid deleting the contacts data (although the CSV file has been exported successfully).
So any further help appreciated.

Have you tried a Factory data reset ? I know it's a bit full-on and will mean you have work to do, but might help ?

Nope, not yet.
Let's see if something else can be done to fix this prior doing that.
I might even wait as long as 6.0 update.
Frustrated, yes.
