i know this question has been asked many times before but since then a lot of new roms has been released.I'm looking to install a stable gingerbread rom.I gave CM7 a try, being as good as it is...there's still a few bugs here and there. So which ROM would you guys recommend?
I would certainly recommend the Desensenized version of RCMixHD.
All the great software from HTC is still there (camera app, facebook for htc sense, music app, calendar, mail,...) but without the launcher and widgets. The rom is crazy fast and at least for me gives good battery life.
By the way, just did a quadrant run and scored between 1450 and 1500.
Oxygen is no. 1 for me (tried stock froyo, GingerVillain and Redux)
^^ Thanks .. i'll look into installing one of those
I would say Oxygen 2.0.1/2.0.2(test). I find them very stable, but I use 2.0.2 test
miui is my bet
Been using Oxygen 1.0.4 (Froyo) for a few months now and absolutely love its simplicity and minimalistic aspects. Stable and very , very smooth.
Vote RCMixHD
Starburst because of speed stability and loads of free space

I would say that aswell, if the op was looking for a froyo build.
MIUI is pritty slick, but the gingerbread release is a bit buggy right now. Expect it to be stable in a few weeks

So it's a tie between miui and oxygen but since i'm looking into a gingerbread rom i think i'll go for oxygen
Thanks for all the great suggestions guys.
After silently tested almost every single rom for Desire, I settled with Redux.
Almost no issues (except date in notification bar being not conventional for my country date type - 2011 3 25 - i hate that date format).
"Pays-ROM HD v1.1 + Z [A2SD+] [OC] " try it.

Gingervillain
Tested some and the 2 best were oxygen and GingerVillain.
At the moment i'm stuck at GingerVillain
Well, it is nearly a matter of religion
My favorite so far is the Reflex S by NEO
GingerVillan is very stable rom .. been using it for a while b4 i go for MIUI cuz i think its better and very stable also
Oxygen 2.1.3 is very stable and faster than it has been
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I tried many roms but didnt try flashing kernels, hboot and things like.
For pure Android I love Oxygen
but I want widescreen pics so I tried some Sense ROMS and I think the InsertCoin is very stable(1.0.8 stable version) and good rom
+1 for Oxygen 2.1.3
For speed, lag free, long battery life and plenty of free space for loads of apps.
Many thanks

Does it really have to be a froyo rom? If you can stick with gingerbread, you can use oxygen or devnull. These roms are from the same developer, who also programmed opendesire (adamg):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971904 (oxygen)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968504 (devnull)
Otherwise try defrost, it will also be really well on battery life.
I have been using Oxygen 2.1.4 but find it quite slow and laggy, especially when scrolling in the apps drawer. I tried installing Go launcher to see if it is any smoother but it still lagged so thats why I was looking for a really smooth rom that is fast and lag free and as froyo is official and has been for ages I thought there must be a 100% (or as close to) custom rom developed and that's the one I am looking for at the moment. Cheers for your help though mate. I'll give defrost a go.

I think that all roms lag at least a little in the app drawer. My ROM lags, I have two stock Desires here too which lag less, but do nevertheless.
Does the op look for an aosp or Sense rom?
Sense - AuraxTSense 8.4 was the best rom overall performance and battery wise.
Aosp - I liked python's rom the most, but it is no longer developed.
if you are after i very stable and smooth froyo rom i would recommend Cool Froyo DATA++ by coolexe
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998050
Which rom would you say is the most stable and fasted for the htc desire?
there seems to be too much of a choice?
any specific ones?
It all comes down to personal preference in the end.
I always preferred the AuraxTSense ROMs from Neophyte but I do not like the newer Aurax ROMs so I have gone to Ginger Villain and find it to be just great.
I've tried every ROM except the MIUI ones and the Oxygen ROM. CM7 is quite good and more than enough people enjoy it's stability, but it is not for me I don't think. I like the way GV is a customised version of it.
I still prefer the old Sense ROMs but maybe it's because I just prefer the look of them. LeeDroid ROMs are incredibly stable and fast, so I suggest to start there. His LeeDroid 2.5.0 is a great build and if you feel like a Gingerbread experience, go for the GB version of LeeDroid instead.
I originally went with LeeDroid, so I feel it is a good start for others.
Hi, to narrow it down.
I would prefer a rom based on the original rom. But with mods so that it stands out, and it runs at the phones full ability?
thnks for your reply. much appreciated.
You mean ROM running on Froyo 2.2?
Then LeeDrOiD defintiely.

So much threads here with senseless question. There isn't any rom at all, it depends on your needs. Just try it out.
Best sense based rom is insert coin a2sd or cm7. both are stable, fast with sense 3.0. Go for it.

Cyanogenmod 7 (aka cm7) is an aosp rom and so not sense based.

CM7 is a very fast and stable ROM.. its not Sense based but I think its very close to it. Use the s2e app to overcome the internal storage issues inevitable with Desires and you'll not only have a fast stable ROM but you'll also have a lot more space for apps
PS. this is the first ROM I flashed, for a newcomer its a very easy starter

Flashed cm7 yesterday. Much slower as oxygen, imho.

Using miui for a while now had no problems so far and its faster than the leedroid rom i used before.

I would highly recommend you trying a couple of the more well-established ROMs before making a final decision..
With things like this, advice and recommendation can only go so far ..
Like some of the replies above, some of the most popular ones are e.g.
CM7
LeeDroid
Oxygen
I run the ladder and am greatly satisfied.

I can recommend the AcesMod007 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113070
It's quite new, but it's a very stable and good Hybrid ROM of Sense 2.1/3.0 and gets many Updates. Besides it's very fast and saves Battery quite a lot.
Using Leedroid from its begining now on 3.0.8.2 Data++. No problems at all.
BR
MIUI roms have useful feature and very customizable. u should try them.
You will go through several roms until you find one that you like (I have had my desire since launch so i went through loads )
As far as speed goes i would say go for rom without Sense, CM7 for example.
I used Leedroid for a long time and can not fault it.
However in the end I settled for this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570
It does require a bit more fiddling than most roms, but as long as you read the guide/FAQ you should have no problems.
I have been running this rom for a couple of months and have had no problems at all.
I'm currently using CM7, but I really do miss aspects of Sense which I sacrificed in favour of improved battery life and speed. The browser on CM7 just isn't as pleasant to use, and I really do like and use various Sense widgets. I love the notification screen in CM7 with the wifi/BT/GPS options, but it just doesn't feel quite right to me. MIUI looks a bit much like an iOS for my tastes, though I may give it a shot at some point.
Currently trying to flash AceSRom007 and having my fair share of trials and tribulations with it. The actual look of the ROM is wonderful, but I may have to flash back to stock to try and get it to work.
on my desire I have installed sgbs rom...most reactive and stable
As was stated above, it comes down to personal preference mostly.
In terms of speed, I didn't notice big differences between the commonly used ROMs as a non-expert user.
I tried CM7, Oxygen, Insertcoin, Reflex, and now experimenting with MIUI, which fits me well for now
The best thing you can do, is try out a few of them for a few days, and choose that, which appeals the most to you.
You need to download and experiment. Oxygen is blazing fast AOSP rom, CM7 has more features and is slower than Oxygen, MIUI is the iPhone lookalike if you want anything like that, and there is this gargantuan selection of Sense roms which are slower but give you the Sense experience.
And when you say a "rom based on original rom", you mean with HTC Sense?
As AOSP you can try Oxygen and CM7. On the other hand if you want to stay in sense GUI try LeeDroid, sgbs and AceSmod007. I'm using the last of them and I'm very satisfied.
Hello all,
Which one of these Gingerbread Sense ROMs do you recommend based on the following criteria?
- Overall speed and stability
- Space left after installing A2SD version
- Battery life
- Inclusion of Sense 3 stuff
- Any other comment
Thanks in advance.
PS: I am a regular reader of the forum. Seen many of the "which one is the best.." threads, but haven't seen one with an in depth comparison..
I use AceSMod007 from v07, it is very fast and stable ROM with good battery life. There is many free space for apps
Sense 3 works great, no lags and no FCs.
ROM is just great, nothing to add more
I use AcesMod007 too. I love the Sense3.0 integration. I've used LeeDrOiD HD port and AcesMod007 and can tell you that while LeeDrOiD is a bit faster, AcesMod007 is better if you want Sense3.0. It's stable fast and in general just really good.
+1 to acesmod. Very fast and stable.
InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.0 seems a good one.
The best way to find out is to try them for yourself. Everyone has different taste so you won't get a definite answer. Give them a go and see which works best for you

You have two updates newer than the version you use now. Try upgrading and see if that helps. I recommend doing a full wipe while you're at it.

try Acemod v31...super smooth now
+1 for insertcoin 1.1.1 cm7r2 hboot
fastest rom for desire!
I am running InsertCoin 1.1.1 CM7r2 hboot too, no issues at all concerning speed or lags. Sense also runs smooth without FC and enough space for apps. Nevertheless have to admit that I did not yet try LeeDroid or Ace, but I guess I also will not try as InsertCoin runs perfect for me.
Just installed Ace. Good rom, smooth and bug-free (until now) but 3D acceleration is not good.
In 3D with Quadrant I have about 20fps less than with Starburst and flash streaming is laggy.
Is this a problem of all the Gingerbread roms?

It's been a while where ppl always compare the best desire rom out there... let's discuss what rom u guys recommended for everyday use... I'm currently using Oxygen rom, fast stable and hell lot of spaces, and since i'm starting to use 3G, i gonna switch to sense rom, needed sense widget and stuff, might get insertcoin rom... what about u guys?
I'm currently using InsertCoin Sense 2.1/3.0 1.1.4 and although it is great to look at, I perhaps wouldn't recommend it for everyday use as in the new version I have been experiencing some lag and unfortunately (and probably most importantly) it hasn't been too great with battery life.. although I haven't used SetCPU to try and improve it.
I would almost be tempted to go for a FROYO based ROM, but I think what you'll have to do is test a few and see how they perform for you.
I'm running InsertCoin 1.1.4 as well and I'm having a blast. It does lag every now and then, but my battery life's brilliant - I usually have about 30% left when I go to bed. I'm probably not the heaviest user on the planet, though.
I'm using SetCPU though, so that might be why. It's set to 499-1190 (smartassV2) with a Screen Off rule for 245-460. Seems to do the trick.

Use this one, yesterday coolexe did fabulous update.. EVERYTHING is working perfectly, including camera and flash.
It's Sense 3.0 ROM (not 2.1 + 3.0) and its just fast as 2.1, i was shocked when tried it for a first time.
TBH it's atm. best Sense 3 ROM in Desire section, and i tried all of them.
I'm using stock HBOOT InsertCoin 1.1.4, working well for me.
I'm using my own Rom with custom hboot

gotta agree, it's really nice and smooth rom. check it out. but insert coin is ok also

TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
I've been experimenting with ROMs for a few months now. Here is what I've found:
1) The most stable, light, low power ROM that I've used is MIUI. It has everything you need out of the box.
2) If you don't like the MIUI interface (read: like an iPhone and Android combined), the next best is Redux 1.2. Very low power, but very basic. It is basically a shell as I didn't like a lot of the stock components. I had to get a new launcher, dialer, contact manager and SMS app.
3) Sense-based ROMs feel nice until the battery dies... which happens way too quickly. The stock ROM was the most stable for me, I just wanted Gingerbread. All of the Sense-based ROMs that were non-stock seemed to buggy for me.
I'm a computer engineer, so I don't mind playing around with technology, but MIUI and the stock ROM were the only ones that I'd recommend to somebody less technical (or somebody that just wants the smartphone to work and not have to constantly look for fixes and / or ways to make the phone work the way it should out of the box) for daily use.
Yes I'm using that Rom too and can't fault it. It's fast for a sense 3 Rom.
Currently on MIUI 1.8.26.
Cant comment on the batt yet since i just flashed this yesterday but hell yeah, its fast.....

I have to say I disagree with almost all of that
It's based in cm7 so its one of the heaviest aosp Roms around.
To compare, miui xj, with my brutal stripping, I got down to 90MB bare bones. That's 30 MB bigger than dGB and 25MB bigger than redux in the same state.
Also imho, cm7 is heavier on battery, ergo so is miui. Redux is better power wise, although a miui custom kernel could help them there.
Out of interest what mA are you getting on 3g whilst idle?

I am currently on IC 1.1.4 with newest noncallrec kernel. Works fine whereas 1.1.4 had some freeze issues, 1.1.3 worked perfect for me. No lags, no freeze, quite fast. I am also not a heavy user hence my bat lasts almost the whole day.
I'm on Cool3D AceS v2. Nice rom, fast and stable. Was using cyanogenmod, but was missing sense
