I tried watching some videos on youtube, doesn't matter what video, if I use the website/video player, or youtube app, it doesn't work. I cleared data/cache/defaults in youtube and video player to no avail. Any suggestions?

So delete it with root explorer and search for any other youtube files and delete them. Then install the latest from the market.

Yes, but root explorer searches better. I think there may be a youtube file in data\app. I forget where I found it when mine crapped out.
The only thing that worked was fixing permissions in cwm. But it works now, thanks for your help.

Anyone figured out how to get this working? Mine works perfect on my Evo w deck 1.2.1 rom and my wife has an epic 4g. I looked for the vtokapp that a friend uses on his Droid 3 but it doesn't show up in epic 4g market. Any help would be appreciated

Search the market for Root Talk Installer, it contains the fix to get it working.
root 1.3 talk installer did not work for me. First it failed to backup, I went on anyway since i could just odin again and then after it downloaded it failed to copy to system. I tested root with sdx stock app remover and it worked fine.
I flashed this in clockwork from an attachment in this thread and it seems to be working, i still haven't made a video call yet though

Edit haha forgot
This is from my Evo. You will know if its working for you because it will have a camcorder icon beside all u can video chat w. Would you mind looking at your g.talk to confirm u have a camcorder?

Thats the problem none of my friends have video enabled so i can't just tell right away if it is working.
the interface that i have looks like that though and that is different than the basic one the stock rom came with.
If I tap my name i have the option to 'allow video and voice chats'

Thats strange All I did was this
Rename stock to talk.bak
try root talk 1.3 installer and fail
boot into clockwork and flash zip
reboot and talk was there and working.
one strange thing that happened in the middle after i had gotten rid of the old talk.apk i was still receiving messages and they showed up in my notification bar however clicking on them did nothing since i had no talk app to open.
edit: side note, it is dumb that talk doesn't synchronize across phone and gmail at same time like google voice does. ex: I just sent a message from my phone and it didn't show up in the conversation on gmail desktop.
I uninstalled talk (keeping the titanium backup) and then flashed it in clockwork. Nothing appeared after booting. I then restored the back up, browsed on the other thread for a while and decided to try another apk. Uninstalled talk again, flashed the second version, and still nothing. O well. I don't really need it and am fine with waiting.
Also tried flashing the latest zip from the Gtalk video thread. No joy. App works until you try to initiate a video call. Force closes.
EG22, rooted, installed busybox.

Has anyone got this to work on a stock rooted epic, all programs I've either don't install or force close when you try to do the video call.

The stock "Music Player"
I tried pulling `MusicPlayer.apk` from Calkulin's Rom but attempts to install it via that file fail
Also, the market (Play Store) app keeps failing to download/ install.
Guess I'm going to just backup/ re-flash again
If you have that apk, I believe you can just push it to system/apps using root explorer. It won't install like a market app since its a stock system app.

In one post you want the sound player and in the other you want the music player. Which is it?
I was kind enough to take the time and upload both. Extract the containers and use the files inside. I'm not responsible for your actions.
I re-flashed everything right after I was having the problem and it is all working now. Thanks though!
I can't remember which was removed but when I tried to play sounds via text file attachments it said I didn't have a compatible app for it

I'm running 2.3.6. Downloaded the version that you had to rename. Used root explorer to go to /system/app and make rw then went to bottom and renamed original YouTube app to YouTube.apk.old. Went back to downloaded folder and renamed file to YouTube.apk as instructed. Copied file from there to /system/app. Went to market and got connectbot. Started app and chose local. Did ls then cd system, then cd app. ls again and saw both just copied file and original .old file. Did su then hit allow on pop up super user dialog box. Now have #. Then I: "chmod 644 YouTube.apk". Then exit then exit then yes. Reboot phone and you (I was) good to go. Saw HD in some of the video listings. It played flawlessly but I was on wifi and it pulled all the 7 megabits bandwidth I had while playing a video. I have no idea how this will work or not on 3/4g yet.
Hello!
I noticed the YouTube app recently got an update which allows for pre-caching of subscription videos so they're available when the device isn't on WiFi, and although this works on my GNex, the feature is unavailable on my Nexus 7? I was wondering if anyone has found away to re-enable this feature, and if so, how?
Thanks!
Some custom ROMs have this feature.

Awesome - thanks for extracting the APK for me. Unfortunately it won't install? I've removed the YouTube.apk that was installed from the Play Store (I'm on Paranoid)
I get 'X App was not installed.' :/ Any ideas bud?

You're on Paranoid? I don't have a N7 but I'm using Paranoid on my Gnex. I noticed that the preloading options are display mode specific. I don't know why Google would do that but if you put it in the phone style UI it will give you the preloading options.
EDIT: Also, I believe YouTube 4.0.8 still allows preloading whatever the display mode. Probably what dude linked above. On my Gnex I had to stick 4.0.8 manually into /system/app, set permissions and reboot for it to install. But then the Play Store constantly reminds you to update it to 4.0.23.
