Short version- Can I re-root my Evo without using the USB adapter, and if not; I assume It would be unwise to try with an unreliable USB connection?
To explain my situation a little further, I rooted with unrevoked a couple weeks ago, tried a few ROMs and I was VERY happy about the increased performance and longer battery life. At some point someone told me about "calibrating" my battery, by what seemed like overcharging it, but it seemed legit so I tried.
A couple of days later my brain wasn't at 100%, my phone died and I fell asleep with it in my pocket. I tried multiple times to turn it on and watch it die really quick. The next day it wouldn't charge. Took it to a battery store where they said it completely lost power and needed some to charge. They jump started it for free and it worked again.
During all this I was waiting for two cheap batteries and a wall charger in the mail. When I put one of the new batteries in my phone to charge over night, it didn't(yes, I tested other cables). So I realized my phone's USB port was damaged, especially after the light started to flicker on occasion. I un-rooted, flashed a stock ROM and took it in. I don't have $100 for the deductible so I decided to wait till I have more problems since I can charge and swap files still. But can I root it again?
If your still s off and able to push files to the device you could load a custom recovery via hboot and then flash roms from there.
I'm S-ON
If your fully unrooted (S-on) and have 2.2 or lower stock, your methods would still be the same as before(abd push, unrevoked, etc.). If you have 2.3 stock (most recent) you cannot root it again until a new exploit is found.
What would happen if I lost USB connection while running unrevoked? I think I could get it to stay, but could it brick my phone? I think it would just give me an error and I could try until it works but I really don't know how the process works.
EDIT: Problem solved, I just ran unrevoked and my connection didn't die at all

My evo was getting low on battery and I plugged it in. I went to check on it a half hour later and it wasn't charging. I plugged it into my computer and used multiple charging cords and it still won't charge. The battery is dead now. What can I do now? I am rooted and am scared to take it in.

Just to be clear, did the phone die completely before you tried to start charging it? Or did you plug it in before it actually died, and then it still wouldn't charge, and died anyways?
If it died completely on it's own, and then you plugged it in, and it won't take a charge (no led charging light), then your battery is most likely toasted. You can try leaving it plugged into the wall charger for some time, and see if it starts charging again, but it may not. Lithium Ion batteries don't like to be drained completely. They can get so low, to a point that the battery won't recieve a charge. It has something to do with the software in the phone not letting it. I've heard that if you have an actual wall charger, to put the battery directly on that, and it may charge up again. Otherwise, you need a new battery, most likely.
If you plugged it in before it actually died, and it still wouldn't recieve a charge, I would have to take a guess and say that there might be a problem with your usb/charge port (because you did say you tried other cables already, right?, so that should rule out a bad cable)
If you have any other batteries, try one. Or if you do happen to have a direct wall charger, put the battery on that and try to charge it up.
What rom/kernel combo are you currently on?
The battery was at about 24% when I plugged it in. I plugged in and the led didn't come on. It's been on the charger for about an hr. I tried a bb charger no luck and also plugged it into my computer.
I was running CM7 RC4 with savage zen 1.0.1 cfs havs sbc at the time. I got scared that i would have to take it in when the battery was getting low so I tried to flash the pcj136 zip on my sd card but it was corrupted (good time to find outit was corrupted) but after that I flashed back to my stock rooted backup. That's what it's on now. The led still didn't come on.

Okay, so you were able to successfully get the stock rooted rom flashed before the battery died? So you were running the stock rooted rom before it actually died? Still no charging on the stock rooted rom eh? Personally, i would find a way to get your battery charged up. Either take it to a sprint store, or if you have any friends that have a hero or an evo, pop it in there and charge it up. Once you're charged up, you can then have some time to unroot and turn S on if you need to, so you can take it in. It would also allow you test a couple more things, and be sure that it's not software related. (sounds like a bad usb/charge port to me) There isn't a lot you can do without being able to turn it on.
And you meant to say you tried to flash a PC36IMG, right?
Haha yes PC36IMG
Yes now I am running the stock rooted rom. As soon as I flashed the stock rooted rom it died.
My friend has a evo so I think I'll try to use my friends battery to see if it will work. To me it seems like a bad USB port but I'll try the battery. Hopefully it will work.

Yea, as I stated above, I also believe it's a bad usb/charging port. I just think you should use your friends evo to charge your battery, so you can then put your fully charged battery back in your phone, and unroot it if you need to take it in. Just beware, that if it is a bad usb/charge port, I have heard of Sprint giving people a tough time with repairing it (its a known problem). Sprint claims it to be cosmetic damage or physical damage or some bs like that.
I thought this issue would be fixed already. I got my evo in Dec and it's hw 0004.Cosmetic damage? Wow. How is it cosmetic damage when you can't use your phone? If I do have to take it in will sprint fix my evo? I have insurance through best buy.

I have seen people reporting here on XDA, that Sprint refused to fix the problem, and insisted upon either sending it to HTC or using your insuarnce. I'll see if i can find the thread for ya to look at, it wasn't too longg ago.
Cool, thanks

I've seen more on the subject kicking around here, but the dang search is currently down. I got lucky by finding that one on page 7!
This happened to me as well. I was using my EVO (rooted to Warm ROM) as a GPS today driving down to NYC. The battery wasn't completely dead yet and I was using a car charger to the phone. All of a sudden, the phone just reset! I had no clue why. I used my brother's EVO for GPS and after a little while, his started to reset as well! After I got home my phone wouldn't charge with the wall charger USB so I used my cradle charger to directly charge the battery, which worked and now my phone is on and the usb wall charger works again.

Edit: Before you proceed, let me make clear the problem is already fixed!
Hey,
I'm terribly sorry to dilute this forum with this thread, but I really need some help over here.
Let's start of with some information about my phone. Obviously, it's a DHD and I've had it since november. It's been rooted (radio S-Off ENG H-Boot SuperCID etc.). I proceeded to install revolution HD, then CM7 and a phew tweaked CM7 mods. About 2 weeks ago, I also flashed LordModHD kernel with an undervoltscript (UUV). I tried PUV, but my phone would freeze, so I sticked with UUV. It never felt extremely hot, so there was no indication that my DHD was on the edge of failure.
I don't know if the following is relevant, but I'll post it anyway:
Everything worked fine, untill a phew days ago. I tried flashing the original CM7, instead of [email protected], but whenever it rebooted, launcherpro would force close. So I was forced to do a data wipe and start from scratch. Although this did work, I couldn't get titanium back-up to install. Everytime I tried to install it, my phone would reboot.
This didn't work out for me, so I decided to do a nandroid. Now my phone was back to normal. Actually, everything worked like it should, except for Gmail. Gmail would leave my read messages "unread", which was a bit annoying but didn't seem like such a problem.
Now the following is important:
Today I woke up to my alarm (which is my DHD) and I set it to snooze a couple of times. Then I decided to wake up and leave my DHD on the charger and go eat breakfast. Now a few hours later I came back to my DHD to read any new messages, only to find out it wouldn't wake up. I instantly panicked and tried every button combination I could think of. When I came to realize none of them worked, I decided to pull out my battery and put it back in, but still nothing happened. I tried this a few times, wiping the battery and blowing in every corner of my DHD. Sadly, none of these things would have any effect.
What can I do now, besides tell Vodafone to replace my DHD with a new one?
Tl;dr: Rooted my DHD months ago; it stopped working this morning. What do?

isn't your battery dead? or youre charger? did you try to load it from a usb on a computer?
Well, that could be the problem. I used to get 60 hours out of one charge. Yesterday I put it in the charger and also used the wifi hotspot function. It dropped 5 percent in those few hours, but I just figured the hotspot function would cause a massive battery drain. Yesterday I put it in the charger at 7%, which is very unusual for me. I almost never consume 93% on one day, but again, I figured it was from the use of the hotspot function.
I plugged it in my computer now, but it still won't show any sign of life.
Try another battery, try another charger, try turning on the charger (i know this has happened to me) Try twisting the head of the charger completely into place as this can stop the charger from getting through, try using simply the usb cable plugged into a pc / mac.
Chances are this will thread will get deleted or moved, try to keep it in the Q+A area in future, if you get it working then let ppl know so it can be removed.
Good luck.
EDIT: You can grab a cheap battery from amazon for like £6 i got one and it lasts the same as the normal DHD one, it says it's 1600mah but i doubt it is, infact i'm sure it's not.

or your dhd charging point (the micro usb) is faulty then it wouldn't charge either
Now that I've had some more time to think about it, I think the battery is indeed out of juice. It had 7% left last night, so that might have just been enough to get through the night and wake me up. But when I got to get breakfast, it must have died on me.
Now if this hypotheses is right, I just need to figure out how to get charged again.
I use the regular charger, so there is no on/off button (for as far as I can see). There are 3 components that might have failed on me:
-The charger that gets plugged in to the powernet.
-The cable that connects my DHD to the charger.
-My battery
-Micro-usb connection
I've connected it to my computer now and it still doesn't work. So we can safely asume that the charger is not the problem here.
Now how would I be able to check wether it's my battery or cable that has failed me? I have no spare cables or battery.
I could go up to the Vodafone shop and ask them to replace one of these two and see if it works. Does anyone have a better idea?
Btw, if this thread really violates the rules, feel free to move it before I get my question, but please don't delete it. You've been a great help so far, let's get my DHD running again.
Edit: OMG it just flashed a little when I tried moving around the cable. I suppose I somehow wrecked the cable in the past few days.
I guess there's no other option than to get a new cable from Vodafone.
Edit2: Yay, it works once again. I can't seem to reproduce the problem, but there's definately something wrong with one of the components that compose my juicepump.
I'll figure out what component to replace myself, thx for the help guys.
Mod's can delete this thread now.

Made my day, love it
I'm glad it seems to be fixable. I'd hate to have gone through all of that reading for nothing. Post a pic of a juicepump when you find one, just so we know.
Try checking the contacts of the cable. It is possible that it was a faulty product, just as my cable. Stable contact was missing just inside the microUSB plug. If you like mending stuff, you can try to locate the flaw by flexing the cable and checking the contact with a neede, if you don't... well, a cable is cheap compared to a new handset
I have a droid incredible 2. And of course it comes with all that horrible verizon crap bloatware. So I used adw tools to root the phone and achieve s-off and all of that good stuff. I flashed CM7 successfully. Worked great.
However... after flashing the rom; the phone would barely charge. At one point it died. So, using the stock charger, plugged phone into the wall, turned the phone off and left to charge overnight. Turned it back on about 7 hours later and had about 16% charge. So.. I thought well crap and ordered a brand new battery. The same exact issue persists with the new battery.
I tried calibrating the phone with an app from the market and I also tried calibrating it by letting it fully discharge then recharge. I also wiped the batter stats.
So I thought maybe I did something wrong. I tried cleaning everything up and flashing to a different rom entirely. Same problem persists.
After exhaustive google searching I really didn't get anywhere. So since the phone is under warranty called verzion and they are shipping a replacement. So, in order to send it back I needed to unroot and put it back to stock. So I did that. No problems. Plugged in the phone before bed, and woke up in the morning to a fully charged phone.
I really really want to root / flash the replacement phone but I don't want to run into the same problems. Can anyone tell me what might have gone wrong?
that is strange..i've never heard of that problem. try a different rom maybe

As I mentioned I did try two of the most popular/stable roms. Do you have any other recommendations?
I have a stock Verizon LG G4 that I took the MM update on last Friday. Before the update the LG G4 was my favorite phone of all time but with the update the phone is not the same.
1. The phone is getting hot when used and I do not think I am getting even close to the same battery life as before. It would never get this hot before.
2. When using the phone and charging it with the supplied USB cable to my computer or to the wall it negatively charges. In other words it shows it is charging but the battery percent still goes down.
3. I use wireless charging at night. This always worked well. The next morning it would be at 100%. Now I am lucky if it charges 10% more then when I put it down the whole night.
All the above problems did not exist until I took the MM update. One positive is I have a quick charger in my car. That seems to work fine. I used it yesterday with maps running with the screen on the entire time and it charged the phone. So it seems anything that is not quick charge is a problem.
What I have done:
I did a factory reset and did not install any apps to just try it. It did not make any difference.
With Verizon on the phone I did a phone repair which did a factory reset and then reinstalled the firmware from scratch. This also did not make a difference.
My daughter has the same phone but did not take the update yet. I used her cable and battery, knowing that they are working perfect on her phone. This did not make a difference. I also used my battery and cable on her phone it they worked perfect.
Is anyone else having these issues since the update? Verizon is offering to switch the phone out. I just cannot imagine what could have gone wrong though. The phone was working perfect. No changes or issues with the hardware. It was just the software that was upgraded. I am afraid if they just send me another phone it is going to have the same problems. But I am not seeing to many people complain so maybe it is just this phone.
Please let me know if you are having any battery issues since the upgrade? If you are then I do not want to change out my phone. If not, I will let Verizon send me an exchange.
Thank you for your input...
I wanted to report back on the problems I had after upgrading to MM.
The first full week I kept trying to charge the way I always have, wirelessly. Since this kept not working I then charged the entire night on the USB cable with the screen off.
After I did this for a few nights I noticed the phone started working the way it always did. I then tried to charge wireless again and it worked!
So the phone is now working as expected.
Better if you contact Verizon for a replacement before the warranty ends...

My HTC 10 International lost it's fast charging capability after Nougat update. After couple of months, it degrades charging. Now it's taking me two days to fully charge. Most of the times, it will not charge. I got this last July 2016. Almost a year now but the battery can't be faulty. Port doesn't also smell burned and pins are still intact. I tried different usb-c cable and 2.5A adaptor, but it's still not charging properly.
I rooted the device thinking that the custom ROM can fix the issue. After installing VIPER rom and LEEdroid, fast charging is still inactive. It started charging for 3 hrs. Then each month since I updated it to Nougat, it's taking me 6 hrs to 9 hrs to charge per day. So I installed Cleanslate kernel since it can boost charge while connected to a computer. And it did. No problem for 2 months charging from computer, it only takes 2-3hrs to charge and I'm fine with it. Then after a while, it began not charging at all. I will have to switch to Extreme Power saving and try different ports or different usb-c just to TRICK the charging. Sometimes it charge, sometimes it doesn't..
Right now, I'm trying all possible solution to downgrade it to Marshmallow since that is root cause behind all the troubles I have with this phone. But still NO LUCK. I'm S-ON and I wish I could downgrade it without paying $25 for sunshine. I tried RUU EXE file, also tried TWRP backup.. I also thought the Marshmallow firmware option from Leedroid will change the firmware but still no go. Last thing I haven't tried is loading 2PS6IMG.zip on download mode. But my hopes are low..
Do I still have any other options on fixing this phone?

I had a similar issue. Downgrade won't help you. I sent my phone to service 3 times because of that. First time they changed the motherboard - it worked fine for about 2 weeks, and back to issues. Second time at service they changed the battery - again, worked fine for a week, and same ol' story. Third time they gave me a brand new phone, and the issue is gone. I asked the service guy what caused the issue, and he said he has no idea
