Hello,
you are my last chance to keep my GN...
My GN stops itself without reason one or two time a day.
I have try many reinitialization, reinstallation, ... but no way, it continues to stop.
The big problem is: I can't reproduice the bug so I can not do a logcat analysis...
My question:
- Is any one else have the same problem ?
- Do you know a good monitor system which register all the events on a file I can analyze after a stop ?
Thanks in advance.

The phenomen arrives when the phone is locked and I want unlock it.
It reboots the phone as if it was stopped.
Note: the problem never appears when the phone screen is on.

Ok we need more details, did you dropt it, did the phone drink some water, from how long do you have this problem, is the battery making good contact with the pins. You did factory reset?
There is a application logcat, install the application and when you get a reset the first thinc you do after phone restarts is turn on logcat and save the log, and post it here.
Actually, what you need to give us is /proc/last_kmsg after rebooting into android. Get it on the device (most likely it will not be available through adb shell).

My phone never fall down, never drink water .
The problem is appeared there is about 5 weeks.
I think to a battery problem too but if it was the case, the problem can appear when I check the phone but no.
And yesterday the phone was on the table when the problem appear.
I had installed logcat but I think the displayed logs are only the logs from the start of the phone. Not the logs before the stop of the phone.

If you can't reproduce the reboots while the phone is hooked up to USB, I suggest installing an app like aLogcat, and setting it up to write logs to the SD Card on an interval. Hopefully you will get lucky and catch the errors that way.
You can also try pulling out the crash dumps via the following commands:
You can get it using the terminal app on your phone.
su
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /mnt/sdcard/last_kmsg
This should create a file named "last_kmsg" on your SD Card that contains last few debugging messages from the kernel. Open it with any text editor and see if anything obvious shows up.

Hello
My phone stops itself today again and I was recording the logcat but no error the hour before the phone stops...
And already no last_kmsg file in the folder /proc.
There is no event journal except it ?

Check if the battery is always pressed against the pins. My phone kept randomly turning off until I put a piece of paper on the bottom edge of the battery and it hasn't happened since

OK after 1 day the phone have not be stopped.
I think the battery problem is the root cause of these stops.
So the solution is: insert a piece of paper or plastic to keep the battery blocked on the PINs.

Have you rooted and unlocked?

Do you have Google Now active? I bet that is where the drain is coming from. Im seeing the same thing.
No I haven't rooted yet and I don't plan on unlocking and yes I have it active I don't want to turn it off though guess I'll have to suffer the consequence

Rooting and unlocking is huge if you want battery improvements. Removing apps such as google+ will help with battery drain and the ROMs we have out now also have scripts and other battery enhancements.

My battery seems to have gone down to. I might do a factory reset to try and fix it. That helped before. Also. If you look at my attached pic, your notice "peaks" in the graph. No I am not plugging into anything and yet I gain a percent here and there during the day. Anyone get this?
Also, with that pic, I don't have the bars under it showing screen on, awake times, WiFi on, charging or signal. How can I get these back? They are very useful pieces of info.
Sorry didn't mean to take over a thread. This seemed like a logical thread to post with.

Once you're rooted AND unlocked. You can't uninstall system apps until unlocked or you'll get a security error.

I have seen those peaks. The other day I restarted and the percentage in my notification bar changed by 3% immediately after the reboot. That said, I easily got 12 hours over the weekend on a single charge with decent usage.

I can't help you, but I'm just letting you know you're not alone. Mine did that a couple of times when I was on some CM 10.1 nightlies. The phone would just shut off. I thought maybe it was just a SOD on black screen, but one time I caught it flash the Samsung logo, and then shut off. I had to press and hold the power button to turn it back on. Strange indeed. I don't know what caused it, but I would like to know. I use my phone as my alarm, and if it would shut off during the night that would not be good for the morning.
You'd get much more input if you were on a Rom on xda.
This is why I won't use a few roms....jellybam, carbon....at least until there is a dev thread on it....and a couple others.
Just my two cents!

It can be the software or the hardware. My phone keeps rebooting even though I reverted back to stock.
I'm getting the same issue with the random shutdowns. I'm on PAC-man rom. The few times I noticed that it happened was when the screen shutdown while an app was active.

I have been experiencing random restarts. Sometimes on facebook. Sometimes on gallery. A few times while placing a call, receiving a call, reading a text message. This has happened across multiple ROMS, all TW based, with several kernels. Can someone help me find out what is going on? I have the complete logcat for about 1/2 hour worth of messing around trying to get it to freeze if needed. But I see a lot of errors here, so I think the problem should be able to be identified from this. I stopped the logcat during the boot up process after it crashed.
Thanks

I have manually restarted since. I think this is the last_kmsg from the last time it crashed before the one that the logcat is from. Not 100% sure though.

Its gonna have to be one RIGHT AFTER IT rebooted itself. Otherwise, it gets re-written. So wait till it reboots by itself, and boots back up, grab the last_kmsg.

Hello,
Today my phone randomly turned off by itself, and when I turned it back on, it got to the samsung screen and then went black. After I tried again/pulled the battery, it did the same thing. I can access recovery and download modes, but when I tried to restore my phone, my phone ****s off before the process can commence. Since the phone barely stays on for 5 seconds, I can't get Odin to see my phone. Please help. My phone is rooted, but I never installed a custom ROM. I'm still stock.
Try to pull the battery, then plug in the USB. You should be able to enter download mode without the restart.

Doesn't work. When I plug it in without the battery, the charging light comes on, then turns off, then the mini vibration happens. But I never get a samsung screen. Can't access download mode at all without the battery.
That did happen to me before. I'm trying to remember how I repaired it. When the battery is in, and turned on. Is it rebooting alot or stuck on the Samsung screen?

Hmm. I'm stumped. Sorry. I had the very same issue with my i777. I had the Odin screen on while I fiddled wth the USB connection at the phone until it finally stayed connected long enough to push a recovery to it. Although it doesn't appear you have the same issue. I figured I'd throw it out there. Again. I'm sorry I can't help further.

Not to my knowledge, I can still push it just fine.
There have been more than a few instances where someone would have similar issues where if would shut off after a few seconds. Most times it would reboot itself over and over, but for a few people it would just shut down.
Most of the cases I've seen, it turned out to be something keeping the button in contact causing it to trigger the switch.
Sometimes it was the button itself got jammed, others the button felt ok, maybe a bit loose, but under it it was essentially pushed in. A couple have apparently just had a bad switch or a short.
May or may not be the case here, but thought I'd go ahead and mention it.

Some people simply opened up the phone and reseated the button. Others had to buy a new button and replace themselves. Some sent it in to a repair shop to have it done for them and a couple who suspected it was an issue with a switch or a short on the board I don't think were ever able to fix it.
One guy got mad at his and slammed it on the table. After that he said it worked fine! I do NOT recommend this!!! But I have fixed stereos, VCR's, CD players, and all sorts of electronic equipment with this method! I would never attempt it with this fragile screen though!
What I recommend is that you go to a phone service centre that does JTAG, that way they can diagnose and repair the motherboard

when you try to access dl mode you get the option to continue or reboot, choose reboot and long press home and volume up, this will cause recovery to boot up (I sometimes have trouble getting it to boot with my problem without this method) then flash your rom again or flash a firmware package. this will at least get you into your rom for the time being. Then you can work from there.
