Not sure if I'll get in trouble asking this.... - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

On my INC, i had the free 3g hotspot tether hack.
is there something similar for the INC2?

Not till we get root. And even then.. Verizon is cracking down on illegal tethering. So I can't say for sure even if we will have it after we get root.

The FCC says Verizon can't do that so there is an argument. Tethering now works on the Droid X again. Hang in there. Everything comes to those who wait.

Im using Virtous ROM...Can Tmobile see if I am tethering or wifi hotspot?

I was wondering
Incorrect forum.
Answer: I believe they may be able to with how much usage, and also what throughports.
If gyou use theyre tether hotspot app then yes im sure they can tell. If you tether with some other app then all they see is data going to your phone. I dont know 100% but i will tell you i have always tethered even with my old razor and never once got a notice or complaint or anything telling me to stop

Sprint hotspot

Is sprint hot spot not supposed to work until I pay or can i use it and it will pop up on my bill .
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
If your phone is stock you have to pay to get it turned on by sprint. If your phone is rooted there is a hack you can apply that bypasses the sprint activation and it just works. Many custom roms have the hack built in so you can use the hotspot free without using a separate app like wifi tether. If you flashed a custom rom and it now works you won't get billed
Right now the hack only works on 3g.

I actually signed up and came here with relatively the same question. I've rooted this phone and can still only create worthless 'ad hoc' mode networks. What is the name of said hack? I have been unable to locate one.
Thanks!

T mobile unlimited data?

I went with their unlimited 4g data plan yesterday they told me I couldn't use hotspot anymore. So now I need to know is that feature now blocked on UN rooted phones? Because I'm running a custom tw Rom and the hotspot still works

You can use tethering aps from Google play market
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yeah it should be blocked if you're unrooted. It should redirect you to a page asking if you want to add it to your plan (at least that's what it did for me), etc... I actually still had issues tethering when I went to a custom tw rom but when I finally switched over to a cm10 nightly I no longer had issues tethering.

has been working for me for days since I signed up for unlimited 4g data plan.
I always just used PDAnet. We had a storm come through the other day and knocked out my home internet for a couple days. I had PDAnet (that I downloaded from the PLAY store) and used it to watch Netflix. Worked like a charm. Root isn't even required.
So the consensus here is that even with the (no tether unlimited 4g) plan tethering still works just fine? Or someone said that you must use firefox on the tethered pc and another said that pda.net app must be used? I'm looking to save some money by switching from my 10gig data plan but need to know that it will still tether first.

No one said you have to use anything. If you are rooted, tethering will work fine. You can't use the built-in tethering if you are not running a custom rom.
I too am considering the plan. Very interested to know the actual charges are at the end of billing cycle. Contracts usually have additional fees every month. That being said the cost of the plan sound really good. I am averaging about 10mb download with highs of 16mb with my no contract tmobile plan. It sucks on beachside but was kind of expecting that, can go from 100kb to 8mb down within a block or two. Might just be interference.
I would also like to know if calling mart credits can be added to the account or other providers credits work. Then I would actually be paying less than the price they are asking. About 5 percent less when i can find the codes that are still valid!
Please keep us posted everyone! Let us know if thier are any problems after tethering and how much are you tethering percentage wise daily. I want to cut out the cable and would just go to tethering for home if i can.
Also thinking that after sept 12th,tmobile may try to lure others into thier plans with free phones on that value plan, hope so,then can sell that phone(one s?) and get that Gnexus i been wanting to try .

tethering to PC browsers is what sets it off. If yuo are going to tether to other phones or tablets, TMO wont make you pay for the service.
But that's not wireless

Sprint WiFi hotspot

So just wanna make sure that if I have a rooted and unlocked optimus g running a custom ROM, I won't be charged anything extra for using WiFi hotspot right? Thanks for any info guys

Not unless you go past your limit. It mostly happens with AT&T and Sprint carriers, where if they somehow detect that you are using a hotspot (bit unlikely with a custom rom, but it can happen), then they will charge you.

Yeah I just let a buddy connect to it with his phone so he could use the browser and stuff. I use a lot of data as it is so they prob won't notice anything

I have unlimited, but they don't let me use a hotspot... so I use TrevE's Wireless Tether. They don't notice at all. (I have Sprint)

In one of the posts I seen before it said that AT&T and Sprint are the most common too notice someone using an excessive amount of data for unpaid tethering. How much is considered to be a lot. on average I use 120 to 180 gb a month. Have I just been lucky? I'm running rooted stock rom.
you guys just watch out cause here soon sprint is going to be shutting down what they call "server farms" running on thier new network. Not sure what all qualifies you for that class but just make sure you dont abuse it too much.

I would say you are very lucky. My step son was downloading about the same amount. And although they didn't mention tethering. They sent me a letter saying I had excessive data usage, (I have unlimited data plan) and had 10 days to stop the excessive usage on that line or they were going to cancel my account. This was on Sprint.

Well here the past month or so I've taken it easy. My schedule at worked changed so I didn't have the time for things I did. I guess I got lucky. I know that I read using a stock ROM is the easiest way to get caught. Since then I've installed the pacman ROM for my lgog. So I'm not so worried about that now.

[Q] Anyone find a WIFI tether app that works yet?

FoxFi doesn't seem to work on the Verizon version. Problem is that the Verizon version gets locked down so rooting may take a while. Hopefully someone will find one that works.
EDIT: Bluetooth tethering works, but it is a fraction of the speed. 10% at the most.
Edit 2: Been spoiled with Paranoid Android. Looks like root is required for free WiFi tether to work with KitKat devices.
I am not buying this phone until it is rooted because of this.
If there is a workaround, I am 100% buying this thing ASAP.
So... Anyone have some ideas?
No wifi tethering yet, but using FoxFi/PdaNet for USB tethering works fine for me in the meantime. Speed is fine running it that way.
Well excuse me guys but I think I'm missing something here. What's wrong with tethering? The default settings for tethering works fine with me without any other app.

Ops my mistake. I though you meant the feature in general is not working. Now I understand, it's working but with extra subscription while on Verizon. I'm not on the same network so I don't have such issue.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Regards,
Don't know if it's any use to you but on Three in the UK you have to pay for tethering or it blocks internet until you reboot the phone but I found that it can't detect the computer if you're using a linux distro. Worth a try with a live disk/pen if it's just for browsing etc.

Theoretically if you had root, do you think there's an app that would work in Infrastructure mode? I'm on Sprint so root isn't a problem but I had awful tether problems with my old M7 when it went to KitKat and I had to revert back to keep my old android-wifi-tether install working.
I'm on T-Mobile and purchased clockwork mod tether. DOESN'T work on HTC ONE M8. Would really like to keep this phone but I must have working tether, where I live my cell phone gets better service than the local cable provider!

Have you guys tested this one out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter
Works great for me on 3UK now that the new tariffs allows only 2GB of tethering. I've done over 5GB this month.

Tmobile gives you 3GB of tethering for free. They don't block the native tethering at all. After you reach the limit, tethering would redirect you to a Tmobile page. Internet services like Dropbox or League of Legends still work even though you've reached the limit. And Facebook, I believe. =.P
But I don't use any tethering apps, and I'm on Tmobile. Is there a reason why you're trying to use ClockworkMod Tether?
EDIT: I forgot, that's on their $20 data plan, the unlimited-no-throttle plan. I don't know how the native tethering works on other plans. Hmm...
