Hi Everyone,
I bought a HTC Magic with 900/2100 MHz, which I just found out that it doesn't work with US TMo's 3G (1700/2100) network.
Please, does anyone have a solution, maybe a tweak or a system flush?
Sorry if it doesn't make sense, I desperately seeking for help and if there is a solution.
TIA.
Hi.
Is it possible to change the opperating frequency from 900Mhz to 850Mhz on this phone?
Is it possibe to change the frequency that the Desire uses?
I just got an HTC Desire but it apparently doesn't use the same frequency as my other phone did so I'm stuck on insanely slow EDGE.
I know this request may sound a little odd but I'm desperate to change it.
At the moment the frequency is: HSDPA 900 / 2100
And I need to get to: 850 / 2100
I saw that you can apperently flash "Radios", is this what is needed? What exactly would flashing a Radio do?
If anyone could help me here it would be GREATLY appreciated, I mean what's a smartphone without 3G internet?
Edit: I just realized that both Rogers and the HTC Desire share the 2100 frequency, is there any way I could enable the 3G on that frequency?
I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the frequencies are a hardware problem - otherwise you would probably see a lot more mods to enable every frequency possible
If rogers is using that 2100 frequency, your phone should be searching for 3g on that frequency, but there might not be 2100 support in your area, as they use 2 different frequencies to make it cheaper to roll out (so in a different area, phones could access the 850 but not the 2100)
Updating your radio might help a bit:
Radios can make your signal a bit stronger, depending on which one you use (the best radio varies per situation/person) So it could let your phone get a higher speed on your EDGE, or maybe find a nearby 2100 signal
Yes, flashing to a different radio version and its associated RIL (if available) can help to improve issues with things like battery life, Wi-Fi performance, and 3G/HSDPA speeds. Some radio versions may work better than others for you as they are region dependant. Give a few a try and observe how good/bad they each perform.

No. It's not possible.

I've got a 850/2100 HTC Desire. While the 850 doesn't affect me, I'd have preferred if I had the 900/2100 HTC Desire.
BTW, just to re-affirm, frequency the device operates on is hardware-based and cannot be manipulated with software/firmwares.

The radio frequencies are handled by the cpu and cannot be changed

how can i find the frequency info on my phone?Where in settings can i retrieve this information? Thanks
My Desire HD works with UMTS frequency 850, which means I can only get GPRS, as my provider uses 2100 for UMTS.
I know there are other variants for the DHD that work with 2100.
My question: Is it possible somehow to hack the radio firmware to make the device work in a different frequency or did HTC actually bother with different radio hardware?
Is there a 850 MHz DHD out yet? The DHD normally has a 900/2100 MHz UMTS radio in it. So it should work. Do you have 3G enabled or is your phone on GSM only?

The radio frequencies are "hard coded" into the cpu chipset, they cannot be changed. full stop. sorry
