Apologies if this is a stupid question;
Can I find out what frequency the Desire is using at any time? ie which 850/900/2100 band?
Just replaced an 850/2100 Desire with a UK-originated 900/2100 and the speedtest results have almost doubled.
Just want to see if it is still using the 2100mhz network or somehow it's using a 900mhz band with better results
Sidenote: in Australia we have 850mhz desires
Does anybody have any solution on finding out which frequency the Desire is using at a given time?
Thank you

The 850Mhz is only for Telstra. If you with any other provider (3, Vodafone, Optus) you should get the EU version! If you use telstra one with let say 3 card in it, you will only get 3G when you have access to 2100Mhz network.
My Desire is telstra one and im with telstra, speed test results are better comparing to HTC Hero on 3. Im getting around 500-1000kbps better results.
Only problem is that Melbourne server is gone from speedtest.net, and now we testing connection to Canbera and Adelaide so results will be diffrent.

I live in Mexico and have a European Desire and want to change to 850 since Telcel (cel provider) is what uses.
Any help on how I can achieve this?
wrong problem explained
What I meant was for the 3G 850 band
You have to buy a new phone! The A8181 Desire does not support that frequency - you need an A8183 Desire.

Dave

Thanks for the answer dave, I was hoping there were some software tweaks.

I know I'm dredging up an old thread, but I searched and have not found a way to display which of the 3G frequency bands is being used at any given moment by my Desire. Does anyone know of an app that does this? I would be surprised if there is not an android app that does this, since it seems there are such apps for other platforms.
My Desire HD works with UMTS frequency 850, which means I can only get GPRS, as my provider uses 2100 for UMTS.
I know there are other variants for the DHD that work with 2100.
My question: Is it possible somehow to hack the radio firmware to make the device work in a different frequency or did HTC actually bother with different radio hardware?
Is there a 850 MHz DHD out yet? The DHD normally has a 900/2100 MHz UMTS radio in it. So it should work. Do you have 3G enabled or is your phone on GSM only?

The radio frequencies are "hard coded" into the cpu chipset, they cannot be changed. full stop. sorry
Hello,
I currently use a HTC Desire HD handset, so far everything has been awesome.. One problem is that the network provider I am using (Vodafone Australia) is pretty much hopeless. The alternative is to go with Telstra, however they use different HSPA frequencies to those that my handset supports.
Vodafone Australi - 900/2100
Telstra Next-G - 850
I have a few questions which I've been unable to categorically answer from other posts.
1) is it possible to flash alternative firmware for the radio?
2) is there firmware which supports Quad Band HSPA for HTC handsets?
3) What is the actual radio chipset used in the Desire and Desire HD?
I travel a fair bit around the world, the normal Australian vodafone frequencies work well in the EU and many parts of Asia, however If I do go with a Telstra frequency then I loose the roaming, hence the question about Quad Band HSPA/UMTS.
Regards,
Jimmy.
tha'ts a really good question, i want to know about that too.. and btw, who uses 850mhz frequency? wtf... =oP
Radio frequencies are hard coded into the cpu chipset, and thus cannot be changed by flashing a new radio

hello there!
is there a way to change HTC cellular frequency to 850 and 2100?
thanks!
hello
Is it possible to unlock the machine to operate at 800MHz LTE?
