Hey,
I am currently having official sea15 froyo rom and I want to know the best overclock app and its settings for it to have stable performance and battery life??
Also, will continous overclock to 1ghz hurt my defy or its battery in any way??
Just read a little bit: SetVsel This is the best CPU tweaking app for DEFY, you can download it from the Market.
And the answer is: no, it won't damage your phone, 1.2GHz is still safe. You just have to find the proper vsel values for your phone.
Get vsel, milestone and setcpu and do 1 ghz but scale to 300 when screen is off if your running constant 1 ghz battery will be crap plus it will run hot all the time
Set your vsel to however you feel comfy mine is [email protected] , [email protected] and 58 @ 1ghz goodluck
at 1.1Ghz, 56Vsel is also nice and tested on my device

II'm very new to xda but i successfully flashed SyndicateROM frozen 1.10 and wanted to know what setting i should be placing in setCPU to achieve the advertised overclocked 1.3gHz and undervolted at 1.0gHz, i've read min:200, idle:800, and max:1000-1300. Anyway I appreciate the help and thanks to all of you hard at work in the Android dev community!
You'll get the undervolted 1ghz by default. If you want 1.3ghz, use it as the max.
so if i understand correctly, if i overclock it to 1.3ghz i will be undervolted at 1ghz, so as far as battery life goes, will overclocking it to 1.3ghz give me battery life of the stock 1.0ghz? Sorry for the possibly erroneous questions lol

No. You will see less battery life at 1.3ghz. If you want battery life, don't even bother with SetCPU.
Set min 100, max 1.3ghz ondemand governor. 1ghz is uv automatically when it runs at that, but with 1.3 as your max it may not spend much time in 1.0. If your concerned with battery (UV) then min 100, max 1000 might be what you want. I've been running that and I seriously cannot come up with a single speed complaint. K0 and team have done an amazing job with this thing.

is setCPU safe to use on the epic with syndicaterom? i searched the forums, and it looks like some people are having problems with it...

Hi, im just about to flash leedroids 2.2.3 rom, which can oc to 1.8 ghz with setcpu, just wondering if there are any dangers in having it at this speed? anything to be aware of ?
It might fry your device, it might not, you never know. There's no need to run it at 1,8ghz. I'd recommend max 1,2ghz for daily use though everything runs smoot at 1ghz already.
If you overclock to 1.8Ghz you will increase the risks to fry your CPU(and hence, your device will be destroyed). Lol.
Also overclocking too high can drain your battery real fast. As per Hawks556, max 1.2Ghz would be fine.(perhaps it is almost to optimal)
I overclock mine at 1.16Ghz and it is already very smooth in LeeDrOid.
You may sometimes wish to overclock it until 1.8GHz is just to show off to your peers only. Maybe through quadrants. But later on make sure you underclock it back.
Cheers. =)
thanks for the help, lol whole thing just froze while i was reading it better underclock it lol : /
OC up to 1.5ghz should not harm your device.
Take a look at ths HTC Flyer: it has the same CPU as the DHD but it's set to 1.5ghz by default.
So there is no risk in overclocking up to 1.5ghz in my opinion.

Hello Everyone
Is overclocking the defy to 1GHz is ok?and by ok i mean stable for a long time....and not for few months and then the phone is dead or something
thanx in advance
Many have been OC-ed to 1 ghz without any issue.
I'm running with 1000/52 in setvsel.
Overclocking doesn't harm unless the voltage is correct and not too much. OC to 1 GHz and see the lowest voltage that you can run stable on. Set it as the setting.
Also, CPU scales as per demand so your Defy will not run at 1 Ghz all the time, only when it requires that muscle...
And CPU's do last a long time, my 8 year old Pentium 4 just refuses to die...LOL
Running the Defy at 1000/52 and 75% with Setvsel. No problems and battery-power for full 3 days including a 6 hour geocaching trail. That's ok.
my defy can handle 1,2ghz long term, so you should be fine with 1ghz just make sure you set the vsel right, setting it too high could damage the cpu, setting it too low causes reboot, but no damage. so you can start by setting it to 50vsel, and if your phone is instable (i recommend setvsel and stability test for testing) set it a bit higher!
ok
thank you so much guys
Seriously no one knows, as no one has been owning and overclocking defy for over half year. But I think 1g is fine. Mine can easily go to 1.4g at 7x vsel, though I'm using 1.2g at 62 vsel.
mine maxed out on 1.37ghz, but im still using [email protected] theres nothing i use 800mhz cant handle, and with undervolting i can seriously lower battery consumption.
Mine is OC'd to 1ghz with Milestone overclock with no problems, and it's super fast also.
Hello people
Today I bought my new defy and I'm testing the possibilities of the device.
After some misgivings, I've made a progressive overclock and hit the 3GHz mark.
Someone has already gone beyond that and know if the device remains stable? Here it is running at 3GHz for an hour and not warmed more than 1 º C and not spent too much power. And yes, he is set to keep the clock all the time.
Did someone made this as well?
Edit: I can't post the Screenshots 'cause I'm a new user. If someone are interested in it, I can send it by pm.
I went to 1ghz and no further... you must have money to burn (or phones to burn!)
The phone didn't overheat. Even after one hour at 3GHz, the temperature did not rise more than 1 º C.
I wonder if anyone else has ventured within the limits of overclocking.
Even at 3GHZ, there's nothing gain as no apps or games need that power to run at the moment. All apps and games would run smooth even at 1GHZ. Possibility at this 3GHZ is only a fried processor if the phone won't do the auto shut down.

It's still on and working without overheating, but I noticed the needless of this clock
I'll set the clock for 1.5ghz.
What rom do you recommend to me? I'm using Cyanogenmod rc 1.5.
3GHz is impossible, over 1.5GHz CPU can't work, you can set 10GHz, but will be exactly the same as 1.5GHz
May it be 3.0ghz only on the display but no in the system?
I'm new on this phone and don't know so much about it
3GHz? Hehe!
Yes, on screen it's shows 3GHz. But, like bvbfan said, I think it's only on screen and not the true frequence of the clock.
What program I can use to check this?
I'm using CyanogenMod Rc 1.5
Im running my Defy on 1 Ghz for ages now.
Never had a problem and i think going any further will not be healthy for your phone especially when you increase the vsel over 58
however you make it happen, it is fake. simply because of no heat. it is not really 3GHz, just a number you see on screen. run Quarant and see if it is really 3GHz
The current kernel won't let you overclock anywhere above 1.3 ghz. Its ARMv7 CPU limit I believe.

Just download SetVsel from Play Store, then search in Google for Defy overclocking.
Overclocked Since 1 Year
I am using Aero Control with the following settings:
GPU freq : 266MHz
VSEL Levels:
400/34
800/44
1100/56
1300/66
Governer: Interavtive
Current ROM: CM11 by Quarx 2
Kernel: 29/7 kernel by Blechdose
It is stable. No heating issues whatsoever
i dont want to under or overclock my defy...just want it as it is !!
What will happen if i install any custom rom ??
Will it O/C or U/C my defy ?? What r pros and cons of both ??
Not every custom rom, just some.
A developer usually write if the rom will under/overclock your device.
Despite this you can always choose to disable it.
CM7 will overclock and undervolt your CPU, so you should have more battery life and notice an increase in performance/general responsiveness. There's no risk in that, those values (300, 600, 1000 - I forgot at what voltages they are) are safe for daily use.
I know that MIUI e.g. bumps up your maximum clock speed to 1GHz (instead of 800MHz).
But I don't know why you don't like overclocking/undervolting, I use setvsel for some time (mainly to save battery because I have set pretty less vsel rates and when the screen is off it goes down to the lowest value) and normally you can't break your phone unless you set it to 2GHz and let it boot from start.
And when there are some settings included in a ROM you can be pretty sure that they won't be totally bad for your device.
what abt J boogie 3 liquid arc ??

Will jboogie3 liquidarc over or under clock ??
LiquidArc is based on CM7, so that is overclocked to 1GHz as well.
But if you really don't want that your ROM is overclocked you can still install it and then reduce the clockspeed to the standard 800 MHz yourself (Milestone overclock should be able to do that)
