These guys really know how to win. That why we roll like that!
This OP will be quick and dirty as I am going on vacation. Any Xoomers around Panama City Beach wanna by me a beer, holla.
First and foremost, the Xoom Community owes a debt of gratitude to Roach from the Transformer board. He pointed me toward the
Code:
find ./ -type f -exec sed -i 's/return-void-barrier/return-void/g' {} \;
Truly the most epic piece of script. Roach is WIN in it's purest form! Thanks man, you got the party started!
OK, the goods...
Built from Verizon 3G stock image! Everybody keeps their google winning
Completly deodexed, zip aligned stock system apps and framework.
Pure stock system apps and framework for you themers and minimalists. EXCEPT framework-res.apk. It was not affected by deodex, so you can grab stock from anywhere.
As far as we can tell, ANY XOOM DEVICE CAN FLASH THIS NO WORRIES. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE COMING FROM A XOOM WITH ANYTHING BUT THE VERIZON 3G FIRMWARE, IT IS POSSIBLE YOU MAY HAVE TO DO A FULL WIPE
Example: If you have a US Wifi Only device, but you upgraded with my method to the Verizon 3g upgrade kit, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO WIPE. If you have a UK Wifi Only model with UK wifi only 3.1, it is possible you may have to wipe.
Rom Features
Packed with Tiamat 1.4.4 stock GPU. Flash OC'd gpu version is you wish.
rooted with SU and superuser, of course
Desktop UA string, CRT Screen Off Animation, Call setting with SIP, and SMS capable enabled.
Note: At the moment, with the 3g fix you will not have the SIP calling or SMS capabilities. This is because we have had to go back to a more stock framework-res.apk.
Supercircle 100 point battery mod! thanks Jewremy
Wifi Ad-Hoc mod enabled! thanks Kelvie
USB Mass Storage Enabled. Use Dinomight's Mass Storage Tool or activity manager script. I've got some truly epic things lined up for this now that I can unleash the brd|smaliBeast !
Init.d boot scripts enabled. Thanks Steady Hawkin!
Busybox built in
local.init.rc enabled in system/etc
openVPN binary and script from CyanogenMod. untested but with tun.ko included, should win. Also grabbed Wireless Toolkit binary with built in symlinks from CyanogenMod
added Quickboot, Estrongs File Explorer, and Flash Player hulufied brdizzled in data/apps. This was included so users coming from full wipe can be up and running. Feel free to remove from zip before flashing.
And i'm sure there's more but can't remember atm.
Instructions:
1) Back up your device's apps and data and nandroid to be safe
2) Put rom in root of MicroSD
3) Flash rom
4) Flash the 3g Fix if you're activated on Verizon.
5) Reboot
6) DETERMINE IF A WIPE IS NECESSARY
If your device bootloops, which is not likely, you will need to wipe
Once booted, attempt to install an app either from the Market or a side loaded apk. If the install fails and borks out, a wipe is necessary.
If it is determined you have to wipe, do a Factory Reset in Android Settings menu. At this time do not use Clockwork Recovery to wipe.
Once wiped, flash rom again and reboot.
6) Welcome to Team Tiamat Xoom Rom motoGoogEpicPwnageWinningness
If you want to have the charging light on while the xoom is powered on, flash optional update 2. This only turns the charging light on.

How to deodex HC 3.1
This is not a tutorial on the art of deodex! This is for those who already know the game but were stuck. This is how Roach showed me the trick to get HC smali to rebuild.
this is just the trick. Implement this method into your scripts as necessary.
use baksmali 1.2.7 to decode framework and system app .odex
once decoded, apply this string replace command to the output smali code
Code:
find ./ -type f -exec sed -i 's/return-void-barrier/return-void/g' {} \;
then build smali into classes.dex as normal with smali 1.2.7
This is the baksmali / smali and apktool used. After deodex, apktool ( Sangreal's HoneyTool ;D ) was confirmed working on Gmail.apk as a test.
Download Deodex apktool pack
Also included are the smali / baksmali wrapper scripts and the deodex scripts I wrote to do this job. All you script guys, don't hate cause it's a little sloppy. But it did the trick. Deodex guys, notice the trick with $classpath. Sloppy but it works.
On framework, you will have to add junit-core.jar to classpath for framework.jar, services.jar, policy.jar, and ext.jar.
On apps, they all go exept for bluetooth.apk and networklocation.apk. You have to add that long string of classpath for those, but they will go.
Have fun.
People are still trying to wipe in recovery, so i'm going to post this here:
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD/SATAN//THE POPE/THE PRESIDENT/MOTHER NATURE/YOUR MOM/OR WHOEVER YOU BELIEVE IN DO NOT WIPE IN RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET INSIDE HONEYCOMB.
As always, amazing work, BRD!
You guys are the greatest to ever win!
Win makes it a win-win
You folks rock.
Amazing!
Let the games begin...
You guys are amazing. Thanks for the hard work. It is much appreciated. This is exactly why I bought the Xoom and had to listen to all the nay-sayers. It was just a matter of time before things would explode and it starts now!

Hell yea flashing as soon as I get home from work!
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Just flashed it on my wifi only Xoom. Works great. And as BRD stated in the OP, I did not have to do a full wipe, because I had previously installed his 3.1 on my USA wifi only Xoom.
Thanks to BRD and the team that built this ROM.

+100, can't wait! Thank you so much for all your hard work!!!
I'm just going to get it out of the way and ask the dumb question, because well...i'm retarded.
SO I upgraded to 3.1 (USA Wifi Only) using your method as soon as it came out, shows as Verizon Xoom at the web android market now, so I should be good to go with the no wipe correct? Again, sorry for my retardation.
Peace
Dan
*edit* Already answered, and yep, i'm retarded. Thanks again for all you've done for us BRD, can't wait to flash it!!!
languages
does it include the languages from the judison's language pack thread? =]
Congrats to all the Devs that participated on this epic win!!!
I just cant wait to see what this will bring for future roms ^_^
downloading this now! I'm going to wipe, as i upgraded my wifi only with an OTA. Any reason why you say to do a reset in settings? or can i just wipe in clockwork like usual?
also can i flash one of the boot.img from the kernel thread? or is that not needed with this rom? and which one?
thanks

We have found if you wipe in cwm you won't be able to install apps to the data partition. Also its not 100% you have to wipe. I few brave peoples have nandroid backup and just installed without wiping.

Noob question : Out of curiosity, what does this mean "you won't be able to install apps to the data partition "? While I haven't done a full wipe from CWM on my Xoom, I have done it regularly on my Incredible when installing new ROMs. Sounds like something is a little different with CWM on the Xoom?

Yea, its a bug they are working on. It was not something that was planned. The partitions on the xoom are different then other devices. Check out the update scripts, it will blow your mind. In testing though, if you wiped in cwm, then tried to install apps your xoom rebooted.

Thanks to netarchy for scripting help, kendon with patching the stock ROM, DMzda and Lenny with alpha testing, arshad14, venter and Billias with beta testing. Thanks to AdamM for Rosie config.
Note: This ROM has been built from the OTAs, not from any /system/ dumps.
EDIT:
For Windows users struggling in the dark ages with their cmd prompts that don't understand colours:
Download this script:
http://qap.la/~ninpo/villain/testing/ll
Code:
adb remount
adb push ll /system/xbin/
adb shell chmod 755 /system/xbin/ll
adb shell chown 0:2000 /system/xbin/ll
Then give it a whirl:
Code:
adb shell ll /data/
It also accepts regular ls arguments:
Code:
adb shell ll -al /system/bin/
Enjoy!
For those wondering, Hacre is Ninpo on the VillainROM Forums.

Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
may I ask, why would this be any different from vr 10.3? they're both build from official 2.1 roms for the gsm hero. one is from europe, the other, asia. ok, same phone still.
Is it like the VR team has learned a few things from vr10 and are doing things differently in vr12 so this will be a better rom than vr10?
because vr10 is supposed to be the ultimate sense rom, no?
how can this be any better? I read the "Added" list above, sure there are some interesting things, but don't all of those things work in vr10.3? as well? maybe the cpu won't change speeds as often now, but in all honesty, will this work any differently than 10.3 did?
I finally left VR after vr10.x because I'm tired of the slowdowns in sense roms. villain superhero2 is much better to me, but oddly has some broken things (considering it's from the same rom I don't quite get it, but hell I'm not the one building the rom so I'm just happy you guys do all this hard work!
But what I really want is a sense rom where I can use whatever launcher I want (I love launcherpro right now) without having to move to a non-sense or almost-non-nense (IE: superhero) rom just to get the speed I need.
will this happen with VR12? or for pure speed is it still better to go with non-sense or partial-sense?
so many questions, sorry, rambling, but I'm confused about the big deal about euro hero 2.1 rom versus asian one. the languages were added, keyboard was changed, so the taiwan rom became the euro rom, no?
silly questions maybe? did I miss something LoL
cheers, thanks for indulging me. I'm su re I'm not the only one wondering this stuff.

I'm curious what you think compared to superhero 2.0 (which I'm on right now).
try using launcherpro under 11 beta and see how it does compared to launcherpro under superhero 2 for example.
Anyone who grabbed this recently, please redownload if your md5sum does not match:

As there was a last minute fix required right as we went live, lol typical.
To address some questions, especially from dkelley:
This is a -fast- ROM. Fresh boots finish in 5-6 minutes, instead of the 10-15 most previous builds took. From power on to usable UI is under two minutes. It is smooth, it is fast, it is slick.
We've already had alpha and beta testers comparing it to Superhero and that's with Sense. Imagine LauncherPro...
We didn't just go from 10.3 and everything prior to that with some fixes. This is built from the base HTC ROM+OTA updates with further optimisations and fixes applied ourselves.
Apart from the additional European language support, we would not release a ROM if we didn't feel it to be an improvement over what we already have available. That's what 11.9.x is here, for you to help us test, report back bugs, so that VR12 can be the best ROM we've ever released.

and....
Just go to the Application in the Setting, and clear the Sense"Default".
Then you can set LauncherPro(or what ever other Launcher)as your default launcher in any ROM.

will report when it's ready

are you sure it's not working? it takes a long time to copy thigns over to sd. when I do a titanium backup of 100+ apps after flashign a new rom it fills up app space pretty fast but after 10-20 minutes it lowers space down again in phone memory (not speaknig of 11.9 here but apps2sd in general)

No you need to read earlier in the thread where I said to check md5sums. We had a problem with the release we initially went live with (missing /system/sd folder in dir structure) which broke apps2sd.
Please check the md5sum of your .zip, it should be 8fbeb43c7d5cf970c1669b2e833c9fa0
If it isn't, redownload and reflash.
Started off with about 145mb i think. now down to 119mb only installed about 6 things so far

ah. well, there it is.
Is there a new radio out to flash with this rom? preferably one that works with a locked orange hero?

Re-Introduce Orange Glacier 2.0.0
The reason I created this ROM is NOT TO COMPETE with anyone else, it is mainly for myself. I wanted a light weight ROM that's STABLE and FAST but I also wanted to try something slightly different.
I WON'T BE Updating this ROM unless something is Seriously WRONG with it...
(I WON'T BE taking FEATURE REQUESTS and such, most can be added by yourself from various mods found in the Theme and Apps sub forum )
So here it is: Orange Glacier ?!?!?!?
Why the name:
Because ClockworkMod Recovery (3.0.0.5+) for Gingerbread is colored Orange for EXT 4 partitions and since this ROM uses EXT 4 File System (FS) as its primary FS, I decided to name it this way.
So what is in this Orange Glacier?
1. Completely rebuilt from Stock Image
2. Uses exclusively EXT 4 FS
3. Moved all optional Apps to /data/app partition for easy uninstall (including most Google Apps)
4. Rooted, /system set to RW by default
5. Deodexed, Zip aligned all /system/apps and framework files using ROM kitchen from fellow XDA member.
6. Dalvik memory boosted from default 24MB to 36MB
7. Few CFS tweaks
I want to Thank the following:
TeamSilence for inspiring me to start it all,
Pack for the awesome battery mods,
dsixda for the easy to use ROM kitchen (highly recommended to anyone interested in cooking their own ROM, it CAN'T be easier than what he provided)
Installation:
The File ==> Orange Glacier Version 2.0 <==
WARNING: The INSTALLER WILL ERASE ALL USER DATA AND SYSTEM DATA!!!
Requirement: MUST HAVE CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY 3.0.0.5+
1. Reboot into recovery
2. Wipe Cache Partition
3. Install zip from SDCard
4. Once installation is completed, select Reboot System Now
Note: Upon first reboot may take up to 4~6 mins.
The following pre-installed Apps will need to be updated MANUALLY from Market by searching for their names:
Google Search
Youtube
Google Maps
T-Mobile MyAccount
T-Mobile TV
Qik Video Chat
TwonkyMobile
Google Street
All Built-in Games (Monopoly, NFS etc)
or they can all be easily un-installed because they are NO LONGER System Apps.
History:

There's nothing special about this ROM.. It's mainly stock with the tweaks I mentioned in the OP...
stock is good for my battery i need battery more than fancy animations and all this gingerbread stuff
Sweet! Downloading now. Thanks Faux!
BTW, are there any known bugs/issues Faux?
Everything you have done is so amazing, so everything you do, we would pay special attention~~Tky Faux!!
nothing wrong basically itsstock with a few additions like battery mod and lil visuals here and there and speed up alot i dont feel no lag at all everything works idk bout ffc on qik cause my girl dont have but evrything is good to go
Well, this ROM gives me the best data speeds i have ever had. Unfortunately, every time that i reboot, it erases all of my screens. not sure why and OP says no support for this ROM. So i guess i will flash something else. It pains me to have to give up the data speeds.

He actually stated no support unless something serious is wrong. That seems pretty serious if happening to others as well. I would love to load a "de-bloatwared" stock image with good speed and full functionality. I can't wait to hear more feedback on this one.

You should probably point out that this is just a ROM that you've baked from the MoDaCo kitchen as your starting point then chucked in a *VERY* few mods.
How do I know? As well as matching MD5s for most of the content, you have a /system/app/GoogleQuick* directory, an error I made in Ir6.

I have already explained that I made the changes that I look better from Roma and other users, and I assembled a rom and I gave him a name, do not charge money for this, I do not receive compensation, and do not do it for profit , I only do it for passion.
I remember that Android is an open-source project, In computing, open source software whose authors indicate (more precisely the rights holders) allow, even encourage them free study and the changes are made by other independent programmers .
so I have not done anything wrong, but I just picked up the mods of different authors and I gathered in a rom!
Wow stop fighting over who made it and see who can make it even better. Nice job!!!!

Thank you to: Infinitybiff, XxKolohexX, ChromerSmith, Kingklick, Firerat, Cyanogen, HTC, Samsung, Google, Dumfuq, Houka420, The Entire CM Team and contributors and of course the guy that made this all possible JesusFreke. We wouldnt be where we are now if it wasnt for him.

Call Sound doesnt work when GPS is turned off - Temp fix leave GPS on
Thank you Sammydr10, for your work finding the GPS fix for audio.
USB connection of SDcard needs to be fixed - Temp fix is use mount sdcard in recovery/use Auto Mount SD app or do not switch to internal memory in CM settings, use the sdcard (which is done by default).
Mounting of emmc - Temp fix use Root Explorer
Netflix freezes - Nothing yet
Any other launcher is having FC problems
Gallery is a bit laggy at first, and may not rotate- toggle orientation/use quickpic for gallery.
When listening to music and receiving a notification, volume does not return to previous levels- Cyanogenmod settings/Sound/Uncheck Notification Focus (mstrk242 helped with this one THANKS)
When using a lockscreen gesture to open directly to camera, the viewfinder looks all wonky and green. Enter gallery and exit and camera will look normal again.
Google music will not stream on 4g it does stream over wifi- Not sure yet.
In quickpic when when attempting to rotate an image to edit it causes force close. - Looking into it.
When using a custom app on the three ring lockscreen, selecting unlock from the middle ring causes reboot: Call your phone unlock to answer then get into settings and change lockscreen preference. Three ring lockscreen does work if you leave the custom app in the middle.

Awesome! This may sound like a dumb question, but is there any way to update CWM for our phones? I just flashed the recovery.tar through ODIN, but I think that is only version 3.0.2.5.
Thanks again for all the hard work guys!
I'm glad you guys are here we really need some help thanks.

I'm super stoked to try your team's stuff. Let me say first off that I am a fan of little touches. The updater-script text is very cool and so is the boot animation.
Wow. Good job guys. Still got to wait before I can download..

How? I installed ROM Manager, is it by tapping More Recoveries? It had an error with permissions.
Wait, I'm confused. Our version of CWM is 5.0.2.6, so we have nothing to update then, correct?

Thank you. I agree it gives it a nice look.
I've started a project building an AOSP ROM for wingray for my own amusement, and I thought I'd share, just in case someone wanted a nearly pure AOSP ROM with some carefully chosen tweaks.
As far as I am aware this is a fully functional ROM, but I am unable to test exhaustively so treat it as a pre-release beta, use at your own risk, blah, blah, blah.
I don't make any promises to continue development or fix bugs.
Features:
Built from pure AOSP 4.1.1 R4 (JRO03L) source with the following tweaks:
Fixed Guava compilation errors (thanks to CM10)
Added Busybox binary (thanks to ChainsDD)
Added Superuser package (thanks to ChainsDD)
Removed cellular and tethering references from wingray build (thanks to Peter Alfonso)
Disabled inclusion of AOSP recovery in the build (thanks to Peter Alfonso)
Fixed init.d support (thanks to CM10)
Working Camera
Bigger thumbnail size in recent apps menu
To do:
Horizontal recent apps menu
Reboot menu
T-Mobile Theme Chooser
More ...
Known Issues:
May encounter an issue with Superuser forgetting app permissions. Workaround: install SuperSU.
To install this ROM, I recommend wiping System, and Dalvik Cache, and performing a Factory Reset, but feel free to try it your way.
Make a Nandroid backup first!
Use standard Jellybean gapps.

All feedback/bug reports welcome!
Well this is pretty neat, Thanks!
Glad you like it. I'm finding it quite snappy to use, even though it's not overclocked. I'll try to build in some more features as I get the time, if I can do it without losing the butteriness.
Hey thanx for your work.:good:
I wonder how this would run with a Tiamat/Eos Kernel ? Anyone tried?
Only one way to find out
Development is going a bit slowly in the last two days as I have been having trouble with corruption in my git repository.
i was just wondering if someone might ever do an aosp build for my xoom. thank you so much for your efforts, and for sharing the fruits with us!
cool deal man, i'll give this a spin and report back. so good to see others dev'ing for the Xoom! thank you thank you thank you
when looking in TB there is a system app listed with Chinese characters followed by 4.1.1-eng.zigackly.20120914.083408. What is this and can it be removed?
just like to add that first impressions go a long way and i dont normally look at the boot animation, but i did this time and it was way smoother than any other ive seen on my tablet, dont know what the diff is, but i like it
so far so good
Getting build.prop error 7 on install. Looking for Wingray in the build.prop line.
Might be a bad download? I am trying to update from CM10 and the stock update Stachre provides.

That will be the AOSP Chinese keyboard. There's a Japanese one too. Look in Settings->Language and input and you will see them as options. I believe you can safely remove them.

Could you try the download again? Build.prop should be replaced in system when you install, so it doesn't sound like a problem with where you are coming from.
MD5 checksum is 8cfdb670d42b5486f07f816f0e9a4791. You can check with MD5 checker from the play store.
If it's not a download problem, try a factory reset and wipe system before installing. Make sure you back up first.
In other news, I have fixed my git repositories although I had to redo all my work, but I am now working on a new build with improvements to the recents menu to take advantage of the Xoom's screen size. Hoping to implement bigger app thumbnails tonight and possibly a horizontal menu tomorrow.
The addition of a reboot menu is challenging. I made some changes based on the way Peter Alfonso does it and that didn't work, so I looked at the way CM10 do it and that didn't work either! I don't give up easily though. I'll take another stab at it this week. I'm learning this as I go along. Best way to learn, I think.
I'm also hoping to look at adding Theme Chooser this week.
Thank you for the md5, it matches, but still doesnt install.

thanks and looking forward to the updates!
may i suggest one or two? i like the options for things like setting quiet hours or profiles, being able to change toggles, etc. not sure how easy those would be to add in. i'm more than willing to help out and test things.

what recovery are you using and are you sure you have done a complete wipe? (factory reset/wipe data, format cache, format system, wipe dalvik)?
Im using Rogue Recovery...did full wipe, dalvik, cache and system.
Perhaps its the recovery - but that doesnt make sense as every other rom ive installed worked well.
I modified the build.prop with some more operators to see if it will accept the model name or similar instead and I get a error 6 instead.
Maybe its just my Xoom? Nonetheless, ill wait for now, and stick with CM10 - its been pretty stable for me with no reboots.

understandable. maybe try TWRP recovery just to make sure? if you have the time or are up to it?
I guess I could try TWRP, but I dont like how I always have issues with mounting sd with it...its why I stick to Rogue.
Ill give it a shot later on with TWRP to try and pinpoint the cause.
Edit: Tried TWRP and it flashed. Interesting! Thanks a bunch!
Build 7 added with larger app thumbnails in the recent apps menu. Available for download in post 2.
I'll look at what it might take to add those features, dodgefan67. I'm looking to implement the ones in my wish list in the OP first though.
I also need to get my head around merging in some improvements from the AOSP code base from after 4.1.1 r4.
The build.prop error is caused by an assert in the updater-script which checks you're installing the ROM on the correct device.
You could extract the updater-script and remove the assert, then replace the updater-script in the ROM.
It's in /META-INF/com/google/android in the zip.
I'm trying to get hold of a build.prop from a wingray which exhibits this problem, so I can correct for it in the script, but I expect yours will be fine now.
Worst case I can just remove the assert, then if someone flashes it on the wrong device it's their lookout, but I'd rather add the variant which is causing the problem to the assert.
I'm going to have to halt development on this for a time whilst I work on some stuff for my Nexus 7. I've updated build 7 so it will work with Rogue recovery. Back in a little while.
thanks for the update!
