[Q] Issue with widgets on HomeScreen - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Since I restored my device with titanium backup after I update (by OTA) to the 2.3.3 firmware, I have an odd issue. Some widgets slots of my homescreen are unavailable. When I try to move a widget on, instead of a green area I have a gray area, and when I drop my widget, it gets back to its previous slot.
I attached a screenshot of this problem.
Can someone help me please ?

Fixed by erasing HomeScreen datas.

How does an OTA update work?

Hello,
I'm the happy owner of an HTC Desire and I have installed a fair amount of applications, either via APKs on the SD card or via the market.
I have also configured many options and activated the "save to SD card" option.
I see that there is an OTA update available and while I'm not sure I actually need it, I'm wondering what impact this will have on my configuration of the phone.
Does it erase everything, and then I have to reinstall everything?
Or does it backup everything and reinstalls after the update is applied?
Thanks for your answers
Use TitaniumBackup to save everything then try the update, what ROM are you on and does that ROMs DEV have the option for OTA updates??
I'm on the original ROM that came with the phone, still unrooted.
The OTA updates will work fine, usually youll wake up one morning and boom its updated (personal experiance with G1)
If you have the htc sense backup to sd most of the data will be backed up to SD, ui screen settings / widgets and layours will not. the OTA will download via your data connection (and is can cost in data fees). If you do not backup to SD you can loose data, backup to sd does not backup all data and you cannot use TitaniumBackup if you have not rooted. i updated from 1.19 to 1.21 because of the random contact bug and sms issue but if you dont need to update you dont need to.
Changes reported in the 1.21 update:
- Updates bootloader to 0.80
- New radio image
- New youtube app with HQ option (1.6.20E).
- Fixed htc's weather widget (integrated into clock&weather widget) not knowing where you are (1.15.xxx just said the name of the country in some countries).
- SMS issue (from non-numerical senders) is resolved.
- fixed random contact showing when receiving operator SMS.
- fixes the voicemail bug for the French carrier SFR (short voicemail number used to call 911/emergency).
- Messages app now shows a count on the number of messages in the SMS inbox.
- calendar/contacts bug - unable to store contact's birthday - has been fixed.
- Long click on the menu button when in home screen now doesnt pop up the keyboard, like it uselessly did before.
- SMS reader does not show the little smiley androids any more - just the mere types.
- Exchange Company Address Book is now properly working. Was unable to use before the update.
- They have disabled the snooze function on the Optical trackpad for calendar events. This means that it is now possible to have the phone in your pocket without accidentally snoozing the alarms.

wont hold any settings, widgets etc.

Getting mighty hacked off with my desire.
Ok so I rooted my phone and have a custom Tom installed. Defrosts latest helping.
Every time I set Widgets or install certain apps they dissapear after a reboot.
Any idea what's going on and should I just unroot back to stock and start again?
Is the widget/app on the SD card? This will happen with some so they need to stay on the phone memory (so A2SD+ comes in handy)
Apparently the rom had a2sd included???
I will look to download it and try again. Thanks for the reply
Hi,
(First of all, excuse my english and my...noobness (?))
I have rooted my desire then installed oepndesire 4.0.36.
I had the same problem: all your applications must be installed in your sdcard otherwise they won't be there after reboot (with OD+cyanogen mod you've got an option to make it automatic).[EDIT]=>apps2sd indeed
But, personnaly, i still have a problem with applications with widgets:
i have 3 widget/icons (newsrob, juice potter...and facebook (sorry )):
These 3 apps were installed on sdcard directly, then i've installed their widget, but when i reboot the phone, widgets/icons have disappeared from screens and i can't find them anymore in my widget list; i just can make a shortcut toward the app, not the widget.
Could somone help me with this?
Thank you
[EDIT2]: It seems to work when i've reinstalled the apps/widgets after desactivating a2sd

Retaining Icon Art

OK, I've searched everywhere I can think of - so can anyone help?
New Android user, still learning. I have created a few folders on my home screen for regularly used apps (Games, Admin, etc.) but everytime I reboot I seem to lose the art for a number of them (I suspect the ones that have had updates since original install).
I can refresh them by deleting the icon from the folder and re-adding from 'all apps' - but this is a pain everytime I reboot (i.e. every morning).
Is there anyway I can stop it losing the art?
fyi: I am now on Virtuous ROM, but I had the same issue with the original Stock ROM (Overclocked) before I flashed.
Any advice appreciated.

Weird behavior removed apps

After reboot some removed apps are visible in app-drawer. Clicking them doesn't do anything, and removing them won't help, cause the reappear after every reboot.
I think it were apps I probably moved to storage, cause all the icons show SD on them.
Is this the opposite problem of icons disapearing from homescreen after reboot in a previous version of the stock ROM? Which was fixed with the latest update (4.18.401.2)

Click to collapse
Well, you can use hide apps option in app drawer, i used it, and those icons gone
Just delete data from HTC sense in manage apps and then reboot that should solve it

Unfortunately, System UI has stopped

When I use the lock icon that appears on the lock screen when Smart Lock is engaged, it occasionally pops up an error message that the System UI has stopped. This problem persists even after I've done a factory reset (wiping the cache in recovery before and after). Toggling Smart Lock features off and on doesn't help.
Although the phone thinks the error is unfortunate, I'm not noticing any problems apart from the error message itself.
If it matters: I'm using the Google Now launcher, and my device and SD card are encrypted.
Same
Same thing here. Also using google now launcher, also have sd card, only difference is I'm not encrypted.
Yes I am seeing this one too sometimes. Had to do a battery pull to shut it down (last time), never had that issue before Lollipop
