Reverse Tethering for samsung epic? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway for me to Reverse tether on my samsung epic?
I would like to plug my phone into my computer and use my computer's internet on my phone
I saw that the HTC thunderbolt had that option right when you plug it in and it was called "internet passthrough" where it uses ur PC's internet right on your phone.
Please let me know!

buy an airrave

wifi an option?

Buy a wifi router. Can't see any fun in having your mobile phone needing to be tethered to a stationary device just to use internet.

lol 10 Char.

50MIP connection on a gigabit switch is faster than even wireless n which I don't believe these phones are capiable of anyway. 801g is terribly slow for larger files

Wifi is not an option in my lab at work.
So it woudl be nice to be able to plug my phoen into my PC at work to get internet access on my phone that way.
I only get 1X in the lab as well...so tahts why i'd really like to get reverse tethering.
My coworker in the same lab uses his PC internet on his HTC thunderbolt.
When he plugs his phone into his PC he has additional option of "internet passthrough" which allows his phoen internet access through his computer

I've tried connectify on one of the laptops here. When i turn on the hotspot my phone is able to see it and connects...but doesnt get internet access.
Not really sure what the issue with that is.

Well Wireless N is 150 mbps... that should be plenty...

There is a 3G version, works well..

Don't think the Epic has Wireless-N.. it uses the 2ghz freq, not the 5ghz band.

N can be either 2.4 or 5 ghz -- though the claimed "150 mbps" is usually around 75 mbps actual throughput.

The epic is wifi n I use it constantly and was the biggest reason I bought this phone. was the first phone for sprint with wifi n and bt 3.0

I'm with the poster on this one. There is no wifi at my job so plugging into computer would really help when I'm pretending to work. I see a lot of discussion but nobody has said whether this will or will not be possible

Wireless N on my Evo?

Ok I have read that Wireless N was enabled by an OTA and I also read that you need to perform a hack to get it... So now I am confused.. Which one is it and how do I do it if a hack is required?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
the Wireless N hack was for Eclair. Froyo does not need the hack.

just dont think your are going to see anything close to N speeds though... it cant.
if i recalled and i dont hqve the right app installed to verify, but i think you are limited to a max of something like 65mbps. so that is a farfarfar cry from N and only slightly better than 54G.

I just want better connectivity and faster speeds than what I get now.. I am 1 wall away from my 6yr old wireless g router and my evo struggles to hit 1mbps download speeds and drops to 1 bar.. I hate it! Would be nice to get 4g like speeds on wifi... Like 3-10mbps down.. So I just ordered a dlink wireless n xtreme router.. Hope it works better than what I currently have.

Wireless N on my EVO?
Well, a WiFi connection to your Wireless N router will much exceed 3G and 4G from my experience, you will be happy. BTW: I have a Froyo EVO, just tested it, forced my LinkSys WRT350N to accept WirelessN only, connected with no issue.

Slow wifi tether

Any clue why my wireless tether only let's me have about 200k down? Tried it on several devices with the same result. Xoom, desktop, and laptop. Speed test on the phone shows pretty consistant 900kbps, I can understand some loss with overhead, but less than 1/4 the speed seems a little extreme.
I'm using the pre14? API...I think. It's been really slow since day 1, slower than my hero - but I just started testing speeds today.
I'm on ee03 if it matters.

So what I want to do is log in to the wifi with my s3 then tether all my toys to the s3....
I've looked for a tethering apps but no luck
Does any one have any ideas how I can do this...
Thanks

it does work on certain laptops with only one network card, not all models though, it works on my gf's HP but not on my Toshiba.
although I highly don't recommend it, it messes with your network card drivers and I once had to format a laptop after installing it, and I work in IT so I know what I'm doing

He wants USB Tethering. I have noticed that it is actually broken on a LOT of JB ROMs but nobody uses it or bothers to test it so it goes unnoticed. You might wanna try ICS.... I don't use USB Tethering but I have seen the problem across multiple devices on JB (excluding official JB of course)
Oops thats what happens when replying to a post when half asleep. I didn't think people still use usb thethering. Anyway right now best to buy a usb wireless adapter and use the modified wireless tether for root users. Unless someone else knows of a way to usb tether that works on jb.

USB Tether app
I use pdanet for my USB tethering needs. I am currently on TBGS3 5.0 (GB08) and tested it. It works flawlessly... the only thing is you may have to pay for the full functionality, depending on your needs. The app itself is not on the market, but if you google it you will get to there main cite, where you can download the app for your computer and, utilizing the push to phone function, can install the app on your phone. Good luck, hope this helped. :good:

I use usb tethering for my laptop all the time, running rooted gb08.
If you're getting an "account not authorized" message thats the carrier.
Hotel doesn't have wifi, you can't tether from mobile data...
I don't think you have any real options, unless you can get to a Mickey D's or something that offers wifi...

I usb to my laptop because the wireless won't connect to that computer (I've tried everything with no luck) but every other device in the house will, and my phone is the only one with tethering capability. So I hop on wifi and plug and play. Unfortunately my scenario doesn't help your situation

[Q] Internet Tethering

Hi everybody,
I'm planning to buy a Note 10.1 2014 ed the WiFi-only version of course.
I was wondering: is it possible to connect a 3G-Phone (like my Galaxy S2) to the Note using a USB adapter and tether from phone to tablet?
I couldn't find a clear answer on the web..
Tanks a lot.
Yes as long as you have tether setup on your phone. That's the way I do it.

I believe you cannot use Wi-Fi tethering (whether its wireless or USB) unless the host device is rooted.

I know that it can be done from phone to computer via regular usb cable, i'm wondering if it will work same way between phone to tablet.
