Ok I have read that Wireless N was enabled by an OTA and I also read that you need to perform a hack to get it... So now I am confused.. Which one is it and how do I do it if a hack is required?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
the Wireless N hack was for Eclair. Froyo does not need the hack.

just dont think your are going to see anything close to N speeds though... it cant.
if i recalled and i dont hqve the right app installed to verify, but i think you are limited to a max of something like 65mbps. so that is a farfarfar cry from N and only slightly better than 54G.

I just want better connectivity and faster speeds than what I get now.. I am 1 wall away from my 6yr old wireless g router and my evo struggles to hit 1mbps download speeds and drops to 1 bar.. I hate it! Would be nice to get 4g like speeds on wifi... Like 3-10mbps down.. So I just ordered a dlink wireless n xtreme router.. Hope it works better than what I currently have.

Wireless N on my EVO?
Well, a WiFi connection to your Wireless N router will much exceed 3G and 4G from my experience, you will be happy. BTW: I have a Froyo EVO, just tested it, forced my LinkSys WRT350N to accept WirelessN only, connected with no issue.
Using http://mobilespeedtest.com
I get 968kbps
968kbps? Isn't that kinda slow?

Can any of you guys tell me if there is an app or website where I cam watch live.NFL games?
I have to work most Sundays and can't stand watching Tivo games. Any help is appreciated.
Legitimately? No.
The Verizon NFL app does show games, so if you have a Verizon phone that would be an option for you.
You could always stream the audio using RadioTime or whatever streaming app you prefer.
You can buy a slingbox.
There is a version of the nfl app floating around here that is great & it has the red zone channel, which is worth it alone...

I can confirm that I have the nfl app working on my Evo! ! ! Everything seems to be working! As of now! Stats videos nfl network! News! Working on wifi and 3g.. Haven't gotten it to work on 4g yet tho.. I tried once...and it froze. :-( which sucks because 4g is like 6 times faster than my wifi can get on my Evo. Not sure why tho.. My wifi should fly maybe crappy wifi chips in the Evos..

Don't think so. My wifi hauls ass at home. I'm only using a wireless g router.
The nfl app is great.
I've attached a copy for OP and anyone else that doesn't have it yet.
Hhhmm then maybe I need a new router.. I'm running one of the old linksys G with mimo routers. My wifi is getting only 1.5mbps down and I hate it.

Must be your routers... I can get upto 18Mb down on my wifi at home through my evo....but I avg around 14Mb with 1-2 bars
channel surfing dot net has games, but not all work. Several require VeetleTV, which cannot currently be installed on Android. They commonly have uStream and/or JustinTV links as well, which work fine.
I want your router? ! What router is that?

I echo the Slingbox comment. I got a Slingbox and the Slingbox app... the quality is excellent over 4G and is definitely watchable over 3G. Plus you can watch more than just NFL games on your phone... you can watch whatever you want no matter where you are. I wish I had it last year when I was on business travel in Europe...
Thanks for the advice everyone!

damn that NFL app works really good on my evo... thanks..
also, does this play live games on sunday?
I think I heard that app is just for broadcasting, the Justin TV one. The Verizon apk is the truth, redzone FTW

My tether and hotspot been kinda choppy lately. I can normally play COD online tethered to my Evo easily but its been losing connection and lagging a lot lately. Anyone having this problem?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Nope. Are u paying for the Sprint hot spot or are u rooted?. Bcuz if ur rooted, losing connection I believe is common. It's just not reliable and its slow but gets the job done when u ever possible. Maybe restarting the phone might help or check ur connection and see if that works.

Any clue why my wireless tether only let's me have about 200k down? Tried it on several devices with the same result. Xoom, desktop, and laptop. Speed test on the phone shows pretty consistant 900kbps, I can understand some loss with overhead, but less than 1/4 the speed seems a little extreme.
I'm using the pre14? API...I think. It's been really slow since day 1, slower than my hero - but I just started testing speeds today.
I'm on ee03 if it matters.

Yeah, just like john said, open up tethering, make sure the device is set on Epic, once that is done, turn on 4g, done. Wait, are you by any chance running the tethering openly or did u set a password on it?

I even went as far as setting a password "imaphonehacker" lol..because everyone at the coffee shop I was at was trying to use my Wifi instead of the coffee shops. That's why the red icon is there in my screenshot. I had 5 people grab my signal one time

If it is 4g its slower than my iowa 3g. I use tether as my primary internet for my pc at home. I kinda got the same issue 1.2mbps down on the phone, and I only get maybe 160kbps down on the tower.

Is there anyway for me to Reverse tether on my samsung epic?
I would like to plug my phone into my computer and use my computer's internet on my phone
I saw that the HTC thunderbolt had that option right when you plug it in and it was called "internet passthrough" where it uses ur PC's internet right on your phone.
Please let me know!

Buy a wifi router. Can't see any fun in having your mobile phone needing to be tethered to a stationary device just to use internet.

Wifi is not an option in my lab at work.
So it woudl be nice to be able to plug my phoen into my PC at work to get internet access on my phone that way.
I only get 1X in the lab as well...so tahts why i'd really like to get reverse tethering.
My coworker in the same lab uses his PC internet on his HTC thunderbolt.
When he plugs his phone into his PC he has additional option of "internet passthrough" which allows his phoen internet access through his computer

Not really sure what the issue with that is.
Well Wireless N is 150 mbps... that should be plenty...
There is a 3G version, works well..

N can be either 2.4 or 5 ghz -- though the claimed "150 mbps" is usually around 75 mbps actual throughput.
The epic is wifi n I use it constantly and was the biggest reason I bought this phone. was the first phone for sprint with wifi n and bt 3.0
I'm with the poster on this one. There is no wifi at my job so plugging into computer would really help when I'm pretending to work. I see a lot of discussion but nobody has said whether this will or will not be possible

Note this was removed in lh1 and newer firmwares. Even worse is that I had mine set to 2.4ghz only and that Is what was still set after flashing to lh1 which means without thus app I could never have gotten 5ghz to work.

Thanks for this gonna make a backup and try it out
Edit: I don't know if I switch it over to 5 ghz it doesn't connect to anything at all. The wifi on this phone totally blows that's about my only gripe I just use the mobile network cause I know out won't drop!
Question: is there any possible way to actually just increase the power of the wifi? Or does that need some kind of patch or something? It would be nice to use wifi when not sitting directly in front of the router
