Folks, i've swithced Roms several times but go back to Myn's Warm Rls 5 due to battery and how it operates. My question is this, since i have been using it regualry i am not able to open up documents in Word or Excel from my work or my personal email, can someone elaborate as to how i can get this to work using the current Rom i have?
thank you
Bump anyone?
You need to get an app such as quick office or documents to go. See if quick office is on your sd card under... damn can't remember what Myn calls it.... maybe removed apps or something.
I have looked under all apps, running apps and apps on SD card and i cannot find quick office, i have documents to go(not paid version) and when i open up a word document its all scrambled, the full version is $14.99 and i really hate to pay that much for an app. Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Bump, I can't find a good excel viewer that doesn't cost money either. The one I had with the stock phone was good, but I'm not sure where that is.
Doesn't Quick Office come preinstalled in the rom? If not, it should be in a Removed Apps folder on your SD card.

When looking for my first android phone, I kept reading how documents to go was the best office app for android.
I've never even heard of the Thinkfree Office app that comes with the SGS. So, does anyone have any experience as to which one is better?
Think Free Office is the only productivity suite i've ever used on any android.
I think I wont move away from that suite that easily because I feel its the best suite ever created.
I have tried and tested DOC/PDF/XLS files and the experience was awesome! 10/10!
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-qo-android-am3-jjzxj.aspx
This looks like a contender for sure!
Thinkfree office has been really good in my limited use. I can't imagine documents to go being much better
Thinkfree is the fastest pdf viewer (faster than the Adobe one, with better reflow), and the xls viewer is also the best I've seen (it can work with recursive iterations within formulas, which quickoffice cannot).
Nice to have it thanks to the SGS...
In purchasing my SGS, ThinkFree has been perhaps the biggest (nice) surprise. In viewing word docs alone it displays all text, fonts, bold, margins tabs etc etc very well. can view & save in docx file types & the degree of editing caperbilities I've found to be very thorough.
Still can't beleive this program comes free with the phone. It really is excellent. Haven't fully tried excell or powerpoint docs yet but certainly the word is second to none.
I tried out some of the other office apps yesterday (documents to go, quickoffice etc), but came away with the impression that thinkfree was still the most functional and well rounded of the lot.
Much kudos to samsung and thinkfree for providing this app to us!!!
EDIT: Actually, I just tried quickoffice 3. I'd say it's pretty much on par with thinkfree, except thinkfree can edit ppt and quickoffice can't afaik.
hey, why is it when i zoom pdf files, the texts are blur
before it's finished the progress, the texts were fine but when the progress was done, it's blur.
ps: it's only happen when i'm viewing a map pdf files, (adobe reader in pc works well but not in thinkfree)
Slightly off topic, but is it possible to have 'talk and type' style input on any of the office apps?
It would be cool to work on documents on the go without typing.
thinkfree office is more than enough for regular use..
Does anybody else have the same problem while reading PDF in Reading view that letters are really small even at the highest zoom level (100%) ?
For reading PDF Files i think Adobe Reader is much better than ThinkFree Office. In Adobe reader i can easely open a Map with 76MB and scroll and zoom very fast. ThinkFree Office takes about 2 minutes just to open the File and even in this case it´s almost impossible to scroll or zoom in the map.
For Office Documents it´s very fast and stable but for reading big PDF Files i recommend Adobe Reader.
Am I the only one who is greatly disappointed by this application?
Apart from the simple fact that the pdf viewer clears the viewed pages out of the memory even when just scrolling down a bit, or the fact that the pdf viewer is awfully slow and just doesn't load all pages (on my end it just loads one or two visible pages and lags when scrolling to a non-loaded one), it takes an awful long time to start the different components.
Also, copy and paste function was made as difficult as possible, I still find myself unable to select and copy the text on my own rather than picking one of the "selection presets", which take a few too many clicks to reach for my taste....
And maybe it's just me, but the powerpoint editor completely kills my slide layout. On windows mobile I didn't have so extremely wrong renderings.
Another quite stupid limitation is the lack of different file formats to save inside the word app (only docx, seriously?!).
This app really makes me wish my old Touch Pro2 wasn't broken...
About comparisons... I still wait for documents to go 3.0 to release.
Edit: granted, things like bad pdf reader go certainly for all pdf readers out there atm.

I don't think Documents to Go 3 will be released any time soon as the company has been sold to I think RIM for their blackberries
Problems with Thinkfree Office
Hi,
Thinkfree office looks great in the begining. but there are some basic issues I dont know where I am going wrong:
1. Throws exception when trying to open a password protected docx
2. Sometimes fails to open attachment files which opens perfectly on my laptop
Anybody knows something about it?
Does ThinkFree support pinch zoom and text reflow on the Desire? I have tested it on a Galaxy and it works AOK but I have heard that some apps work differently on some phones, and I just want to make sure that it works the same way on the Desire before I buy one.
Thanks all!
Hi!
I had a "classic" android ROM, and it had ThinkFree office application.
I installed a new Rom (InDroid 5.1), and it has no TF O.
Can anybody give me a link, where I can find it? I read two books with the help of TF O, and reading is much more difficult with Adobe reader, or Polaris office.
Thanks all!

Can you not simply re-download the app from Market?
I think ezPdfReader is faster.
...change the home key to double tap brings up all the home pages, like Sense?
...check for updates?
...save my data (Text, Contacts, etc...) from my stock ROM and import it in to my new ROM?
...move apps to the SD Card?
I have been rooted for a full day and this is all new to me. I have searched around a read a good bit. Love the forum and hope to be able to answer questions soon.
...change the home key to double tap brings up all the home pages, like Sense?
Go to launcher settings..then system settings..then Home button binding. Select option- "move to default desktop/show previews"
...check for updates?
Go to App: ROM Manager- Select Option "Check for Rom Updates"
...save my data (Text, Contacts, etc...) from my stock ROM and import it in to my new ROM?
First- I would start saving all contacts here on out to your Google. Dont save to phone. That way everytime you sign into google on your new ROM, contacts come up instantly. For text messages- I use SMS backup and restore. It's in the market. It backs up on SD card..and you can name each backup...
...move apps to the SD Card?
I had to move to SkyRaider cause I needed BT audio streaming again, but I believe when you go to settings>>applications, theres an option to move to SD card. Be careful when moving apps to SD card, as some rely on being on your phone.
Great! Thanks for the pointers. With this new ROM, I have so many options. I'm loving it.
New question...
My contacts from facebook can't be edited, converted or uploaded to google. Does anyone know of a app that will take my facebook contacts, including birth days phone numbers and email addresses, and convert them into a csv file so that I can upload them to google. I'm assuming that something from facebook is blocking this. But if I have the info on my phone, I should be able to do whit it as I see fit. With sense, you can link contacts on your phone. That's what I'm trying to get back, but keep it on goggle.

i found an app on facebook, but it failed when i tried it..maybe i took out too many options?

Check it out..good luck. I dont believe facebook will let you take out email addresses, cause privacy and stuff like that.
I did a search and found out what quick office was but if I uninstall it will there be any negative side effects to using the phone? I mean I dont edit any word documents or anything like that so it pretty much seems usless to me. But I want to be sure before deleting it lol just incase it holds the copy past formula or something. Basicly it might somehow be linked to how the phone responds to all text, text message, email anything. I am not sure and that is why I am asking.
Thanks, Thomas
Yes, you can uninstall QuickOffice without any repercussions, aside from the fact that you will no longer be able to use it
I bought Docs-To-Go last year (well worth the money if you have any need for an office suite) and QuickOffice is always in the first group of apps I delete on a new rom.
Also, having DocsToGo makes the PDF viewer kind of redundant for me, thats another app I always remove. But if you don't have a replacement then you should keep it, a PDF viewer can be very useful.

Importing Office documents is unfortunately a problem with WP7....

When life hand you lemons learn to make lemonade
Sign up for Drop Box. No there is not an official DROPBOX for WP7 yet. WP7Box and CloudFiles looks promising but still not complete.
The mobile version of dropbox is really easy to use. m.dropbox.com
It's is finger friendly and is fast. Sync your files there and you are good to go. That is what I do for WP7. I also sync with Sharepoint and OneNote but I like to experiment.
With 25GIGs for free to store info why would you want to not use it. Information is only as good as your last backup. At least with cloud solutions you are backed up.
I keep all my powerpoint presentations, word docs, acrobat files etc. No need to have them in multiple locations.
Well we have another similar thread open, so I'll close this!
Ok, i've been looking around and have found a few, but I was wondering what everyone else is using.
I need to use my phone for business, and quite honestly, the built in contacts app is lacking a few features. The worst is lacking the ability to sort contacts by company name or last name.
If you have replaced your contacts app, please let me know which one you are using and what you think about it.
Thanks!
If you're using Froyo, you can open up contacts, menu, More, Display options, then pick Sort order (and some other configurable settings).
I've tried a couple contact managers in the past.. and none were any good. I would just search appbrain or androidzoom.com, etc.
Hope that tip helps though.

Thanks, I have played with Froyo a bit, but went back to Eclair due to some issues. I was thinking of trying the latest release, so thanks for the info.
I have searched though the app stores and have found a few, but based off of reviews and lack of updates, I didn't feel they were all that good.
I wish I had the time to learn to code, I would just make one myself...
Ok...i'm off to play with Froyo
Well, Froyo does allow sorting by last name, but it does not offer any other sorting methods
Anyone else have any experience with alternative contact managers?
i have an epic, running 2.2, and using launch pro plus they have a people widget, works pretty good
Haven't had a good business contact manager since I got rid of the Treo 755p. Maybe if enough people rag on Dataviz they will port over their contacts database called: Beyond Contacts
I'll take a look at the widget, but I'm looking more for a true contact manager.
Beyond Contacts would be a promising port if they were interested.
I am surprised with all the apps that are out there that a decent contact manager doesn't seem to exist.
Have you tried Youlu Address Book?

I think its pretty slick.

pressed your thanks button by mistake, youlu is good, but doesnt have # or * buttons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been able to group my contacts into countless categories, and even put contacts into multiple categories (friends and coworkers for example) once I logged onto my contacts list via Gmail, creating my own categories, clicking the checkbox that the person applies to and then automatically gets synced it to my phone. I have to click a few times (Phone > Contacts> Groups > Google) to get into those categories vs just going directly to my list, but its still easier and almost quicker to use then when I was using ContactsGroupU on my Moment.
