Thinkfree Office - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

When looking for my first android phone, I kept reading how documents to go was the best office app for android.
I've never even heard of the Thinkfree Office app that comes with the SGS. So, does anyone have any experience as to which one is better?

Think Free Office is the only productivity suite i've ever used on any android.
I think I wont move away from that suite that easily because I feel its the best suite ever created.
I have tried and tested DOC/PDF/XLS files and the experience was awesome! 10/10!

http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-qo-android-am3-jjzxj.aspx
This looks like a contender for sure!

Thinkfree office has been really good in my limited use. I can't imagine documents to go being much better

Thinkfree is the fastest pdf viewer (faster than the Adobe one, with better reflow), and the xls viewer is also the best I've seen (it can work with recursive iterations within formulas, which quickoffice cannot).
Nice to have it thanks to the SGS...

In purchasing my SGS, ThinkFree has been perhaps the biggest (nice) surprise. In viewing word docs alone it displays all text, fonts, bold, margins tabs etc etc very well. can view & save in docx file types & the degree of editing caperbilities I've found to be very thorough.
Still can't beleive this program comes free with the phone. It really is excellent. Haven't fully tried excell or powerpoint docs yet but certainly the word is second to none.

I tried out some of the other office apps yesterday (documents to go, quickoffice etc), but came away with the impression that thinkfree was still the most functional and well rounded of the lot.
Much kudos to samsung and thinkfree for providing this app to us!!!
EDIT: Actually, I just tried quickoffice 3. I'd say it's pretty much on par with thinkfree, except thinkfree can edit ppt and quickoffice can't afaik.

hey, why is it when i zoom pdf files, the texts are blur
before it's finished the progress, the texts were fine but when the progress was done, it's blur.
ps: it's only happen when i'm viewing a map pdf files, (adobe reader in pc works well but not in thinkfree)

Slightly off topic, but is it possible to have 'talk and type' style input on any of the office apps?
It would be cool to work on documents on the go without typing.

thinkfree office is more than enough for regular use..

Does anybody else have the same problem while reading PDF in Reading view that letters are really small even at the highest zoom level (100%) ?

For reading PDF Files i think Adobe Reader is much better than ThinkFree Office. In Adobe reader i can easely open a Map with 76MB and scroll and zoom very fast. ThinkFree Office takes about 2 minutes just to open the File and even in this case it´s almost impossible to scroll or zoom in the map.
For Office Documents it´s very fast and stable but for reading big PDF Files i recommend Adobe Reader.

Am I the only one who is greatly disappointed by this application?
Apart from the simple fact that the pdf viewer clears the viewed pages out of the memory even when just scrolling down a bit, or the fact that the pdf viewer is awfully slow and just doesn't load all pages (on my end it just loads one or two visible pages and lags when scrolling to a non-loaded one), it takes an awful long time to start the different components.
Also, copy and paste function was made as difficult as possible, I still find myself unable to select and copy the text on my own rather than picking one of the "selection presets", which take a few too many clicks to reach for my taste....
And maybe it's just me, but the powerpoint editor completely kills my slide layout. On windows mobile I didn't have so extremely wrong renderings.
Another quite stupid limitation is the lack of different file formats to save inside the word app (only docx, seriously?!).
This app really makes me wish my old Touch Pro2 wasn't broken...
About comparisons... I still wait for documents to go 3.0 to release.
Edit: granted, things like bad pdf reader go certainly for all pdf readers out there atm.

I don't think Documents to Go 3 will be released any time soon as the company has been sold to I think RIM for their blackberries

Problems with Thinkfree Office
Hi,
Thinkfree office looks great in the begining. but there are some basic issues I dont know where I am going wrong:
1. Throws exception when trying to open a password protected docx
2. Sometimes fails to open attachment files which opens perfectly on my laptop
Anybody knows something about it?

Does ThinkFree support pinch zoom and text reflow on the Desire? I have tested it on a Galaxy and it works AOK but I have heard that some apps work differently on some phones, and I just want to make sure that it works the same way on the Desire before I buy one.
Thanks all!

Hi!
I had a "classic" android ROM, and it had ThinkFree office application.
I installed a new Rom (InDroid 5.1), and it has no TF O.
Can anybody give me a link, where I can find it? I read two books with the help of TF O, and reading is much more difficult with Adobe reader, or Polaris office.
Thanks all!

Can you not simply re-download the app from Market?

I think ezPdfReader is faster.

Reading Documents on Touch Pro2

Can anyone please tell me how I read documents on the TouchPro2 (I want to install some lengthy ancient scriptures) and what format they need to be in? Is there a Doc reader already installed or should I install a third aprty one, if so which?
I have few suggestions for you,
Isilo
Repligo
Foxit
Adobe Reader
DataWiz document reader
These are some of the best document readers as far as my experience goes. Google them, see which one fits your bill & thats it. Good Luck.

Adobe Reader good or not?
I'm not sure if I'm missing something or not. I've downloaded the texts I want to read, which are only available in pdf format. When I read them on the device with the ready-installed Adobe Reader, the text is too small to see. If I zoom in to get to a readable size, then the writing goes off the side of the screen, meaning I have to scroll left then right for every line. Am I missing something? Is there another reader for pdf which would allow me to edit the texts, or should I convert texts to another format, if so, which one? Sorry, but I'm new to this. Thanks for your help.
You can enable the reflow-option in the preinstalled adobe reader, so you don´t have to scroll back and forth. With a registry editor (if you don´t have one - get one!!) change HKCU>Software>Adobe>AdobeReaderLE2.5>EnableReflow from 0 to 1.
Now you´ll find the option in the adobe reader menu....
Thank you
Thank you so much michi123, just did it and it's fantastic. It's the first time I've used a Registry Editor. Wasn't too difficult but my gran couldn't do it and I wonder why such a basic need is so difficult to achieve. Anyway. I have the docs now which is great. But is there a better doc reader that allows some editing of pdf documents, with bookmarks etc for a better user experience? It is the main thing I want to use the TP2 for.

Top 3 third party applications

What are your top 3 third party applications that you would love to have on your Windows Phone 7 Series? Most used applications for your daily routines, works, entertainment, what not ... Top 3 applications that you have in mind when asked about mobile applications.
Interesting to know so we could see what users expect to have on WP7 in terms of application.
It does not have to be Windows Mobile 6.x applications. If you think certain iPhone / Android / BB / Symbian apps thats fine.
I start with my top 3:
1. Offline navigation software
- like TomTom, CoPilot, iGo.
2. Opera Mini
- I just love the speed, thats all.
3. Good Facebook client
- Microsoft has one for WM6, but I expect much better than that. I read that iPhone version is better.
I basically use my phone for calls, messages and development... being last one like the only reason why I didn't keep my cheap old Nokia phone. Sometimes I'm using weather, GPS, reading emails or google for this or that but that's all and I'm just happy that I just can do such things whenever I would need them. I'm not really a crazy apps freak....
Got to be iGo as one of them for me!

The OS comes with great facebook integration already built in, no need for an app!
My top apps are:
FPSeCE (Playstation Emulator)
Spacetime 4.0 (Graphing Calculator Software)
Pandora
I know that, but I have doubt with that Facebook integration.
Not that I am saying it is not good, but from what I saw ... the integration is split into 2 hubs ... People hub where you can see status update of your Facebook friends and Photo/Pictures hub where you can see Facebook photo albums of your friends.
With dedicated Facebook app, all those will come in the same flow of information.
Well, not a big deal really, because I am using http://touch.facebook.com via web browser (Opera Mini).

Which, IMO, is the best approach possible. Heck, I might even start using Facebook this way. Why would I need that information in a separate application? Why would I want to view photos in anything but a photo viewing app? Or where else do I need contact information apart from the contact app?
Also, this approach theoretically should aggregate information from different networks in a way that makes sense. I mean, if you are a member of both Facebook and, say, Linked-In, would you really want two separate applications to handle data from these networks?
1.Opera Mobile 10
To read 3 different newspapers each morning on my Omnia II and have all my desktop bookmarks synced OTA to my phone. Been using Opera since v3.0 or so, love it.
2.GSPlayer
to listen to somafm.com !
3. Googlemaps
Works good enough, could be done much better (font size can not be set !) and leaks 2 DC's each time you start and stop it. Have to take another look at bing maps soon
Coreplayer!!!!!!!!
IGO
BattClock (used to display battery info)
For me, if I can reduce time spent then I will choose that way.
Instead of going into 2 hubs to read status updates AND photo updates, I would prefer to just go once to look them all
Like I said, this is not a big deal because there is facebook website itself which can be accessed via web browser.
Probably because I use facebook a lot
Oh yes, the idea of multiple social network integration is nice, dont get me wrong. Probably just because of that, I would start using Twitter! Atm I am only using FB.

Top applications: 'Real' Map-reader/GPS, Ebook reader,
Well, I might not be a typical user (and actually one of the things I liked about 'Windows Mobile Classic' was that it had a diverse ecosystem, catering for non-typical users!) but these are the two apps I use most:
1) A GPS/map-reader that works with real maps (i.e. topographic maps such as, in the UK, the Ordinance Survey series)
- so ideally, Memory-Map will port their software to WP7
2) An ebook reader that can read EPUB and TXT formats
- actually this is such an important use-case for me that I wrote a program to do it (see this thread). I expect to start porting it to WP7 just as soon as the SDK becomes available.
Windows Phone 7 is a paradigm-shift in how phones operate. Apps will no longer be individual screens, but will be subsumed into the overall user interface. Facebook is the most obvious example of that. If you take Tomtom, for instance, it will be peppered all over the phone in any of the following ways;
People Hub: Select a person and then hit the menu option to navigate to their home or workplace
Calendar Hub: Select a Calendar Entry and then hit the menu option to navigate to the Location of that entry.
Bing Search: Hit a search result to be navigated to its location if it is a real world place like a pizza restaurant, for instance. Once Tomtom is installed, instead of just the one option to be directed there by Bing Maps, you'll have a second option as well to navigate there by Tomtom.
Only once you're actually on the road will you get the Tomtom screen up with the 3D view of the road. The rest of the Tomtom UI will be embedded into these hubs.
I'd expect Twitter, Google Maps, Flickr etc to all melt into the phone's UI as simply extra menu options.
I think this is largely why the App list accessible from the home screen is so basic - it won't be the usual way to start an app. Normally the app will be called from a menu in part of one of the hubs. In this way, apps will organically feel like just an extension of the phone's usual functionality. Heck, I can even see the Photos hub doing something like footprints and recording the GPS coordinates, so you can use the Tomtom menu item in there to navigate to the place in the photo!
This is going to be totally awesome. And I think it's partly why the question of "Does it multitask" isn't so clear-cut...
I use my phone as a phone and as a PDA so most of what I need is already there (calendar, alarm, agenda, Excel, etc)
1) But I have to have an ewallet. I use SPB at the moment and fully expect them to port it to WP7.
2) I also would like some ereader that handles most file types (EPUB mostly).
Could care less about the whole Facebook/Twitter thing. Just hope they don't get in the way of how I use my phone. Will have to wait to see how the interface can be changed. If I have to have Facebook/Twitter in the middle of my processes I will probably not get a WP7 phone.

Opera should be made redundant by the new version of IE contained in WP7S. Youtube will become a subsumed service as part of the Pictures & Videos hub in the UI, and will simply be another source of video from the cloud, in the same way that Facebook posted videos are. I would also imagine that the Bing search engine will return Youtube hits.
Basically, be prepared for apps to function in an entirely different way to what you're used to - they will become simply extensions of your phone's functionality - many apps will be able to avoid having their own screens at all and instead rely on the hubs to provide their input/output.

It's not likely that we'll see a version of Opera on WP7S as it's impossible to do a decent browser engine in managed code, because alternative browser makers will be the last to get access to native APIs (if ever), and probably IE will be much better than what we have now, but alternative browsers will not be made "redundant" by this. I can bet IE won't have text reflow, for example, which I personally love and severely miss when I try to use iPhone's Safari.

Making competitors (Opera must earn a lot of money with their OEM deals) redundant is just plainly impossible nowadays without some sort of "deal" made. It's really very interesting what will happen soon.

[Q] Handwriting Recognition Workflow?

Hi Folks,
One of my primary reasons for buying the Note2 (arrived yesterday, so not had much time to experiment) was the Stylus^D^D^D^D^D^D S-Pen. I'm hoping that the phone can replace my Moleskine notebook, in which I make short notes, jot down my action items, etc in meetings where I'm not chair / taking full minutes (for those, I expect I'll need to stick to an A4 pad).
Given what the device is, and who the contributors here are, I thought I'd post, to see if anyone else had the same requirements, and come up with a good working solution? If not, I'll post updates as I go along, and whether or not I find a solution which works well for me.
Ideally, then, my workflow would look something like:
Attend a meeting
Write relevant notes on the Note2 using the S-Pen
Have those notes sync <somewhere> (ideally automatically, but I can live with pressing a button or two)
Have my notes subsequently available on a desktop computer (Windows PC in the office, Mac when working from home)
Ideally have the notes auto-handwriting-recognised at a reasonable level of quality into machine manipulatable text
Other initial thoughts/comments:
I'm happy to use S-Note for this if it works well, but just as happy to use a 3rd party app, and to pay for said app if the value proposition is there.
I've had an evernote account for years, always though the concept was great, but never really made use of it. This will probably be my first port-of-call.
I'm a heavy Dropbox user, so Dropbox integration would work for me (especially since gaining the additional 48gig through purchase of the Note2!).
It would be great if the single app divided out action items and notes "auto-magically" somehow, and populated a cloud-syncing task management tool with the action items. But on this assumption this is asking too much, I think I'd be adverse to switching between two tools, one for notes, one for actions (though perhaps Multi-View would be an interesting solution here?).
Cheers!
Gav.
I'm very interested to see what your thoughts are after using it a while. I'm an engineering student, and was looking to buy a Note2 and take advantage of the SPen functionality. I like the idea of 'Formula Match' although I haven't experimented with it since I don't know anyone with a Note/2/10.1 etc.
I had the Note, and just got the Note 2 last weekend. The problem with S Note is that it only seems to sync to the PC as an image. So, you can't edit them on the PC.
The best solution I've found is using OneNote on the phone and PC. And, syncing them via skydrive.
Evernote seems pretty good, but I figured since I already had OneNote installed on the pc I'd try and make that work first, and never got around to Evrenote. It's a bit clunky though. I use the MS app most of the time, bit it doesnt do everything, so I bought MobileNoterSE and that does some things the MS apps doesn't. But neither is a complete solution.

Best options will be to use something like Google Drive, to use google docs support, or Polaris Office (free with this phone) or QuickOffice to create word documents and sync with somewhere like Dropbox.
This way you will have easily editable files, you lose the ability to do things like the formula thing and easily insert images etc, but it works perfectly for handwriting.
Experience thus far
So, my story thus far.
Firstly, I had a play using S-Note and Evernote together:
To get your handwritten notes into evernote, you export via JPEG to Evernote (note, not a problem in the short term, but I've found the Note2 keeps a copy of the exported docs on the internal storage, so if you use it a lot, it could conceivably munch a lot of your space).
Evernote doesn't (so far as I can find) do OCR on the text to make it machine readable, but it does do an amazing job at OCRing for the purpose of making your handwritten notes searchable. Because it can be a little more "relaxed" in doing this (i.e. if it's not sure if you've written "pound" or "sound", it'll index the word as both for searching purposes) it does a truly wonderful job. It almost makes me wish I'd bought a page-whiz type scanner and fired in my hand written notes over the past few years.
My initial perception of the possible value of this search facility might be enough to make me forego the machine manipulatable part of my requirement.
However...
The handwriting recognition option, replacing the keyboard, built into the phone is very good. It does, I would guesstimate, about an 80% accurate job in recognising my (awful) handwriting in tests yesterday/today (how it fares when used "in anger" vs at my desk tests, I've yet to determine). The advantage here, ofcourse, is that it can deliver machine manipulatable text directly into Evernote, or any other tool you so wish (e.g. Polaris Office as mentioned above).
And, of-course, machine manipulatable text is searchable via any one of a hundred methods or varying complexity and sophistication, as suits your needs.
Ideally...
Of-course, ideally, both would be great. Being able to write, without worrying whether or not the machine "gets it right" is a godsend. I (most of the time) can recognise my handwriting, so if offered both, I could correct where necessary.
My experiments continue!
I'm a teacher and have used the Note II for a couple of weeks. Here are my thoughts:
-I previously used a 7" tablet, a swype-style keyboard and Evernote for making notes
-I bought the Note II after playing with it in the phone shop and seeing how accurate the handwriting recognition was. I have used a Palm PDA in the past and the Samsung system is lightyears ahead of the gesture-style recognition of the Palm.
-I input text now either using handwriting recognition and the S-Pen or voice recognition (when I'm at home and on my own!). It's very possible that using the swype-style keyboard is quicker, but I find in terms of vision, seeing my own handwritten, rather large words on the screen easier to see than the smaller keys of the keyboard, so it works out quicker and is more restful for me.
-I use Evernote for all of my notes. It's amazing. An example is of me helping another teacher assess some speaking and listening tasks in the classroom - I made my comments on my Note & Evernote, then emailed them to her. I now have a copy on Evernote for future reference. I travelled on the train over the weekend and planned all of my lessons on the Note. I'll be able to share these with support assistants easily, can access them from the desktops at school, and they are all automatically tagged with the date.
-I use several Evernote widgets. I use tags and notebooks to keep all the quick-reference notes a touch away, like this week's lesson plans and my timetable. I can find other notes very quickly using the search option.
-I've toyed with writing notes in cursive using the stylus - but in the end think - why would I want to do that, since the handwriting recognition is so good on the Note and I can then edit the text later very easily? My handwriting is not THAT beautiful! If you were really attached to cursive handwriting, S-Note can save notes with both drawing on and written text, although this would be converted to an image file were it then uploaded to Evernote.
-When I have time and energy, I mean to look into Tasker to make note-making more automated, for example opening a new note when I draw out the S-Pen. I'm sure Tasker can save and open notes according to location or calender appointments (you mentioned meetings)
My only wish was that attachments like spreadsheets could be edited and saved while still being attached to the Evernote note. Instead, I used Dropbox for files such as PPT and spreadsheets.
Hope this helps!

Ooh, now, here's something I've not yet considered. If my notes could be auto-labelled based on the meeting I'm (supposed to be) in. That would be interesting.
Evernote can actually do this already. There is a setting which labels the title of your note with the current appointment from your calendar.

I have started using Papyrus...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m5vdmF0aW9uLmFuZHJvaWQucHJvamVjdHBhcHlydXMiXQ..
And Dropbox on my Note 2.
Handwrite notes whilst out at meetings, conferences, etc. Then share to Dropbox in pdf format and thus available on my Desktop when I get back to the office.
Papyrus is still under develeopment and doesn't do OCR afaik. I use my notes for my own recollection, so no need to produce keyboard text or send to colleagues.
Quite simple, but works for me.

I really Like Polaris. It's smooth. I have OSP, and it also seems very smooth and finished. Open Office, I have it, but I haven't messed with it much. I had no problems for the short time I spent with it.
Steve
All the faux-Office apps have limitations.
Some they share...
If you're adding or changing formatting to an existing document or adding content to a document originated on a PC the formatting can change and you can't see it until you open the document in the corresponding "real" MS Office app. So what looks fine in the Android app can look different when a recipient on a PC views it. Documents created and modified exclusively within the Android app tend to fair better formatting wise.
Spell checking sucks in Android. Some of the apps below offer spell checking and some don't. Keep in mind if you're using a BT keyboard word suggestion is disabled so there's no "real time" spelling support. That doesn't just apply to faux-Office apps it applies to pretty much all of them.
Only Polaris and OfficeSuite Pro natively support multiview which is something to consider if you do a lot of content sharing between apps when creating documents and projects.
Before commenting on the faux-Office apps here's an app I use when I want spell checking and either am using the BT keyboard or when the app I'm using doesn't offer it natively. It's called Spell Checker Pro. It's essentially an HTML text editor that allows you to create lightly formatted text, spell check it, and then send it to apps (MMS, e-mail, S Note) and copy<>paste it in to all others. The fact you need to create content in one place to ensure it's spelled correctly and then figure out how to get it to another place for actual use speaks volumes of Android's limitations as a productivity platform.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flipdog.spellchecker.paid
Quickoffice
Bought by Google in November, 2012. It's a nice clean app and offers spell checking. Formatting's fairly easy to apply but it's not as thorough (as many options) as some of the other apps. It's free which is a plus and Google's been working on improving it since they bought it. The major downside is cloud integration - it only works with Google Drive.
OfficeSuite Pro 7
I like this one but it's a PIA in a couple of ways. First, it uses its own clipboard so you can't copy<>paste with the Samsung clipboard which means you have to copy<>paste directly from app-to-app. If you have a lot of stuff you've got in Scrapbook or accumulated in the Samsung clipboard that you want to use in a document you're creating you're kind of screwed. It offers an optional spell checker and an add-on dictionary that vary in price. Their speller's pretty meh and sometimes makes bizarre suggestions. The dictionary integration's nice when you're looking for definitions, antonyms, and synonyms. They're kind of kluged in their implementation though. A misspelled word in a document shows up with a red underline. Rather than allowing you to spell check it, it allows you to look it up in the dictionary and then manually make the correction. If you want to spell check that's launched via an icon in a formatting bar at the bottom of the app. You can get it anywhere from "free" (Amazon App Store) to $14.99. The add-ons are $4.99. It's a very effective app with great formatting and editing options but it's not without its idiosyncrasies.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobisystems.editor.office_registered&hl=en
DocumentsToGo
This is a pretty decent and thorough app. It offers no spelling support other than what's provided by predictive text and autocorrect on the keyboard - which are both disabled if you're using a BT keyboard. So its got great formatting support but the lack of spell check is a real issue.

Polaris is a decent app. It offers no spelling support and the formatting, while decent, is fussy to use with lots of cascading menus and spinning wheels to select what you want. It has great S Pen support because of its integration by Samsung.
Microsoft RDP
This has become my "go-to" method for managing Office documents. It allows you to RDP in to your home or office PC and use real versions of real Windows products. It works well with a BT keyboard and mouse and, because it is "real" office, allows you the comfort and flexibility to do anything you'd normally do on a PC. It's free which certainly can't be argued with. The downside is the PC you're connecting to has to be on all the time and if you're traveling and there's a power failure or the PC unexpectedly shuts down your pretty much screwed. You also have to be on a Pro or higher version of Windows to use RDP. You also obviously need to connected to the Internet. I have a 3G N10.1-14 with unlimited data so that's not an issue for me. At times I'll work up a document using one of the local faux-Office apps I have installed and then open it via RDP just to do the final editing and formatting.

The bottom line is we all use productivity apps in different ways and to do different things. There's no cut-and-tried universal "winner."
afaik, annotations on ppts cannot be saved on polaris. It lets you write them but they disappear.
Office suite seems to be the smoothest, but i only have the free version (read only).
Don't forget to try Kingsoft Office and Andropen Office too, they're my favourites.
Polaris is unflexible. I got Office HD in i think a Playstore anniversary sale over a year ago for 25 cents and stuck with it. To display pdf i prefer Moon+ Reader with pdf plugin.
Quickoffice was the best solution for Symbian, ported to Android and the company finally bought by Google.

I tried this and it looks pretty good. The problem I'm having is it connects fine, but only when my tablet and computer are on the same network. Did you have to configure your firewall, and set your router for port forwarding? Do you also need to set up a static IP for this to work?

The instructions MS provides for the client are pretty piss poor and don't even discuss external access. Here's the right instructions...

i used to use ms office but now i cant anymore because cant find no crack.
hancom and 365 office wont let me use dictionary.

Full compatibility with the real Office is near impossible. Surely even for the official Office365 apps, which require a subscription.
I have an old doc file with complex layout, and tried it on many office programs and apps over the years. While it always looks the same in MS Word, no matter which version, it looks different in other programs/apps. In OpenOffice the layout got better and closer to the real thing over the years, and in Office Suite pro it doesn't look bad, too.

Can the Tab S4 run 2 windows of the same app?

One of the reason i finally decided to go Android/Dex over IOS is cuz of its multi-tasking capabilities.
However, i was wondering if i would be able to run, say 2 Word documents at the same time while in Dex mode?
And does excel run macros/vlookups etc?
Did you try parallel apps ? Not sure about dex
Does anybody know if with the One UI update in Pie this is possible? I have a Tab S3 and I may upgrade to the Tab S4 if this is now possible.
I basically want to be able to multitask with two Word or Excel documents side by side. Any way to do this?
To get split screen view go to your recents menu and tap the icon of the app and it should say open in split screen view. Thats how i do it on my Tab S4 with Android P
You can only open one instance of most apps, and one document within them.. The only app I know let's you open multiple windows in DeX is Desktop Browser.
Otherwise, you can use two different apps in multiwindow or DeX to open the same file type - MS Excel, Google Sheets, Polaris Office, Office Sheets, etc for Excel... Adobe Acrobat & Moon+ Reader for pdf's... Etc...
This is a big miss compared to a real PC desktop environment.

AFAIK Polaris office can handle two instances at same time...
I tried in stock android and couldn't get two word docs to open separately. But maybe in DeX. The ads are terrible.

Yeah, I saw the new iPad OS is able to do this and multitask with two or more instances of the same app. If we could do this it would really replace my laptop in most cases.
