Framework dependencies for sense 3.0 apps? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hey everyone. I am thinking about starting on trying to port over some of the sense 3.0 apps to our version of sense. (2.2?) But I am concerned that there are dependencies for the apps in the new framework. Could anyone that knows more about this tell me if there's any easy way to find out what they are? Or if there are any at all?

I believe it's actually sense 2.1. Also, the dependencies are likely to vary depending on the app. I'm not sure they will check versions, but HTC may have interfaces and libraries that are unique to sense 3.0 that some things will use and others will not.
I'd say play with it and see what happens. The worst that can happen is the app doesn't work.

Well that did no good. The changes I made- I.e. replacing the mms.apk in system/app don't stick after a reboot. I wish I knew how to install it in /data/app instead.

Well.. Tried installing the mms.apk through the package installer. But package installer throws a parse error. I watched the logcat and it seems like the problem is that we have SDK v. 8 while the 3.0 mms requires sdv v. 10.
Does anyone know how to change the minimum SDK version for the app? I just want to see if it will work. I have a feeling its located in the androidmanifest.xml..

You would likely have to change the manifest, which requires changing the contents of the apk, which will break signature. There are various tools for signing an apk, though.

Is there a way to customize the stock messaging app?

Nothing more to add besides the title. I have a black, gray, aqua theme going and I'm tired of chompsms screwing things up and handscent sucking period. The stock messaging app is white and I can't figure out how to change it. Any ideas?

See if you can push the Mms.apk from CyanogenMod. You can make it have a black background with white text and many other things.
This is going to sound like a newbie question, but how would I do that? I've pushed apks before via file manager, but never one that was from a rom.

I haven't tried it, but...
go to settings/applications and check "unknown sources" to allow software from outside the market.
get a rom that has the apk you want, rename the rom to .zip, unzip it, and pull the apk from system/app. Put it on your sdcard and install via file manager.

I got all the way up to the install park. Apparently it's the same apk as the regular messaging app (except the ability to customize it, of course) so when I got to the installation screen it asked me if I wanted to browse the apk or "uninstall". I tried uninstall so I could install the modded one, to no success (it is a baked in app).
I guess I'll have to wait til I decide to root (which really means, when a stable CM rom comes out).
Try Handcent. Its in the market..free and pretty cool.

Chomp is more stable, less laggy and consumes less battery life. My only issue with it is that whenever someone sends me a picture, it keeps bringing up the same picture someone sent me over a month ago. It sucks, but oh well. Until root, I'm sticking with it.

that is a dealbreaker for you and I switched to handcent. I would switch to stock if it could do the iphone/bubble format

It might work if it had a higher version number or a different java name... sounds like a little project for the EZ Bake oven.
or you could root your phone.

Wait, did you say your phone wasnt't rooted? If not then there is nothing you can do because its a /system app, and to modify /system files you need root.
If you do have root, you can save the cm apk to your desktop and use
"adb remount
Adb push C:/Users/(name) /Desktop/Mms. apk /system/app/Mms. apk"
From a command prompt. Otherwise you can use a root file explorer to copy the app into the /system/app directory.

Cyanogen question.

What is this dowloadproviderui.apk that Is in the system app folder and in the app drawer? I usually delete it because it doesn't seem to do anything. Can I delete the other downloadprovider.apk also or can someone explains what it's used for and im missing out on?

The download provider apk handles your downloads from the market, browser etc. Don't delete both make sure you at least have one of them. You can delete the lower case one but keep the other. To be honest I'd just leave em alone lol.
Here's a list of what's safe and what not to remove.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769528
I assume the "UI" portion is the "Downloads" app that shows up in your drawer. If you use a non-stock browser it'll probably appear empty all the time anyway. I'd assume you need the backend to it though. Don't delete that.
Thanks gurus. Any way to make it work with a non stock browser like dolphin?

Quick Office from Sense 2.0+ into CM7?

Anyway I can install the Quick Office from Sense (The free one, Im not asking for paid APPS) to Cyanogenmod? I tried the one from Sky Raider and from Official OTA, but it keeps foreclosing. I even ADB Pushed into /system/app and even fixed the apk permissions but still nothing.
I need this one because this is the only one that reads documents from EMMC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nobody?

All I know is Sense widgets won't transfer without sense and if that app is presented in all Sense 2.0 UI then it likely isn't possible or extremely difficult to transfer over.
I don't know much but providing whatever info I can to ya
It's on the Market isn't it?
EDIT: The paid one and a trial version are on the Market.
Yeah

Yeah I know I bought the paid one but that one for some reason does not read Documents from EMMC which is why I want the one from Sense 2.0 because that one actually reads it. And I tried taking it from a ROM but as I install it on CM7 Nightly #170 it wont open.

EDIT:deleted.

Nice guide, manumanfred. That's a step forward for us left out.
I'm not into modifying apks. I don't know the result of this modified files on APKs, so let me share how I workaround the "problem".
What I've been doing is use Titanium Backup to defrost these apps unavailable in my country - plus I set a schedule to defrost some gapps daily -, only defrosting won't let these apps access any content, so I use a VPN to connect to the market.
The VPN app I use is tunnelbear, but they tricked me into twitting for extra space and they didn't deliver.. so I'm not sure it's the best available.
Perhaps we can learn something from defrost?
Ok.
I have used titanium ROM toolbox to defrost apps and I use hotspot shield vpn.
I have tried to modify movies.apk but I can't recompile it and same happens with many other apps too that I want to recompile. I have to check it closer when I'm at home.

[Q] stupid question of the day, Remove google apps?

i like the factory Samsung roms after all the bloat has been removed.
but i like the aokp roms because i don't need the Google apps installed. (even more bloat IMHO)
is it possible to remove goggle apps from the Samsung base and still keep stability??
Depends on the app. If you mean removing the entire framework i would not suggest it. But if you just mean google books and stuff like that then you can just freeze it with TiBU
I would like to remove as much as possible. Google play Google services Google sync Google maps Google everything etc.
If I could find a comprehensive list that explained what every Google app was in the rom I would start freezing things and see what happens. But with out that list I'll have force closes everywhere and I'll never be sure what may be causing it.
Can be done....
Look on the CM website and search for "barebones" lists of application removal..
Basically CM did the leg work for us in determining to what level a device can be stripped and still function...
A few years ago I was running CM builds on the Aria at just over 56 meg.. and they were fast...
I used winrar to drop out the APKs as the rom didn't need resigning after the removal...but with our current recoveries and the ability to ignore signature verification at the recovery level anyway...I'm sure several other methods will work...
I briefly browsed through the barebones lists before typing this...and noticed that several areas are under construction...but lists do exist to remove complete packages up to the 10.1 level...
Just keep a good nandroid backup handy...
Happy application dumping....g

thanks for the pointers , i found a few different list of things to remove, and ill use my sgs2 as a Guinea pig to start..
find a way to dump a list of system files then start freezing and removing them.
( i even found a s4 rom script that the guy removed 800+ MB of files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307355)
ill post what i find and maybe even release a rom..
unless something happens and i don't

It'll work. ..and it's a lot of fun seeing the bloat go away. .
Those stripped roms fly. .
And with so little on the device. ..it's likely you'll only have 1 application screen. ..
Sweet. ...g
