It might sound a bit extreme but I would repartition the SD. What you have described is a symptom of a mispartitioned SD. It very well could not be your problem but it helps you eliminate one possible cause.

Thanks for your replies, can i just ask what the comand is for unmounting sd card?
And how do partition sd card? Do i just connect to card reader and format or is there more involved?
Sorry bit of a newb at this.
Just to add the problem happened after i rooted my desire, flashed a rom and the phone got stuck in a boot loop.
I have now reflashed stock rom and rooted again.
Cheers in advance

When i try and mount my sd card in recovery i get error cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (nosuch file or directory)

For managing partitions Gparted is recommended. Delete partitions and make only one FAT32. It has to be primary. If you still get that error try "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" again.

Still no luck guys i used gparted, and reformated the sd card.
Now i cant get the fastboot oem comand to runn at all.
either get:
C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
...
(then nothing happens)
Or: an error saying failed too many links??
Anyone any more ideas, i think ive well and truly bricked it??

Try another sd card. Maybe this one is damaged.

Thanks for the help so far. I swaped the card with a friend and my phone recognised their card, but there phone did not recognise mine. So there is a prob with card.
My pc recognises it tho in a card reader, did I not partition it correctly with gparted?

Yes. You probably made logical or secondary partitions instead of primary. Both FAT and ext have to be primary. Remember, FAT first.

No SD Card Functionality after ROM Flash

Hey
i recently rooted my HTC Desire so i could have access to all of the great custom roms that this site has to offer, however along the way, after successfully flashing the defrost custom ROM, i have no SD card functionality, it wont mount the SD card, i read about and thought it might be a USB Brick, so i enter fastboot mode and enter the command they suggested to bring it back
'fastboot oem enable qxdm 0' in fastboot mode.
this then gives me this message
INFO [ERR] Command Error!!!
OKAY
Finished
i still have no SD card on the phone...
please help me, im screwed without my sd card as it has all my backup data on it including my old ROM etc
edit: got it working, somewhere along the line i must have screwed somthing up, the card got corrupted, working now

[Q] Dropped my phone - Now stuck in bootscreen

Hello guys,
I woke up too early this morning, and i accidentally knocked my phone off the stairs. It fell about 2 meters, bounced and then fell another meter, bounced and fell another meter and stopped.
Thankfully it was in a silicon case (i think that's what made it bounce) and there are no visible damages.
I picked it up, and it seemed to be working. After a few secs it went into sleep mode and would not wake up.
I removed the battery and rebooted, and i got the HTC screen, then the nexus boot screen and it stays stuck on the nexus boot.
I then entered recovery mode and thought i would try and restore my backup. I get the following message:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount /sdcard
I took off the SD card, put it my pc and it works just fine.
I got another SD card, copied a rom onto it and tried to reinstall through recovery.
I did a wipe/data factory reset and tried to install the rom.
I got the same message...
Is my Desire toast? It's only six months old...
I was running Defrost6.1 and using psfMod 0.9.7.2 as my recovery.
Any advice would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks
aalex
UPDATE
I did another wipe data / factory reset, and i rebooted.
The rom starts up, without any of my previous settings of course, but I still cannot mount my SD card.
From file manager, it seems that it is being mounted, but no files are listed...
When i try with gallery it reports "SD card unmounted or not present".
Any insights?
Drop it again, it helps

Can u mount the SD card as usb storage in clockwork recovery?
Also try to boot it up normal and
Wait till the battery dies. Then insert the SD card and try again to boot it (with usb cable connected to have some battery power) again.
Gd luck

I tried to mount as usb storage, it seems that it mounts, my pc picks up an additional drive but when i double click on this drive it just says that it cannot be read...
With your SD card in your phone go into settings then storage and unmount SD card. Then format your SD card from your phones menu and it should mount the SD card see if that worked.

Hi ste1164,
Thanks for responding. My problem is that my phone cannot pickup the existence of an SD card.
This is a typical USB-brick. I've had one a few weeks ago. You should look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639&highlight=usb+brick.
If you're new to this, it can be hard to get it working again. Just let me know if you have any problems. It took me a few hours to get it done
From fastboot via ADB, execute "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" and then reboot it with "fastboot reboot" command.
See if it works.
If you don't remember how to do the above, just search.

its not a usb brick, thats a software brick.... it sounds to me like you have a corrupt sd card, sd cards are very delecate and this can happen from a sudden impact, try formatting the card in windows explorer, obviously you cannot format your sd-ext using windows so try gparted or ubuntu to format your other partition.

Can't be sdcard, op said tried sdcard in PC and tried different sdcard...same result, must be sdcard reader or something.
You never know, might be a USB brick, just happened before the drop and was brought on by the reset...but I agree probably is hardware fault.
Is it possible to flash stock rom from fastboot without sdcard? Could try warranty repair then...

sorry i didnt notice that, could be a usb brick but like i said thats S/W related and i doubt dropping your phone could cause such an error, +1 suppose the sudden reset could cause the usb brick especially if the device was reading or writing to the sd card when it happened, could also be the sd card reader in the device has been damaged or one of the internal components. can the device read the sim card? if it dosent, could be a usb brick
Just a thought...is the sdcard reader attached by a ribbon? (never seen the inside of my desire, hope I never have to)
I'm sure I've heard of a few desires that can't read sdcard anymore, I reckon it's either attached by ribbon or it's the most delicate part of the phone.
I'm hoping it's a loose ribbon because that's an easy fix, even I could do that.
Hey guys,
Thanks to all of you for responding.
My sim card works just fine. I can make and receive calls, texts, go online via 3g and Wifi, connect through bluetooth. As far as i can tell, my phone does everythind it did before except mount an SD card. Also, the android market keeps crashing, and if i try and download anything from the net i get a prompt saying that i need an sd card to download.
So far I took the SD card and put it in my pc. I formated it, tried again but it didnt work.
I then tried a brand new sd card and that didn't work either.
However, I did not format the old card's ext2 partition, and the new sd doesn't have an ext partition yet.
Would this point to a USB Brick as mentioned above?
Would it be possible for me to flash the stock rom on the device?
Thanks once again, to all of you.

Although i don't really understand what this means, could it be a possible solution?
If yes, how would i go about implementing it?
Yes, that should solve your problem. I had the same problem a few weeks ago, but that included a malfunctioning usb, even charging didn't work correctly.
To fix the sd-card, you should run the above command using the tool fastboot, available in the Android sdk. After downloading, cd to the tools folder in the sdk and then run the command while your phone is connected to your pc in fastboot mode. Then it should work again.

Hey koenvbeek,
Thanks for the help. I think i may need a bit more of it
Here is what i did so far:
I used Nephrons guide to download and install ADB.
I then rebooted to bootloader. The phone displays "fastboot" and then when i plug it in it dispalys fastboot-usb
I then went to the ADB tools directory and tried to run the command.
I got a message saying the command cannot be run because adbwinapi.dll is missing from my system, and asking me to reinstall everything...
Clearly i made a mistake somewhere but where?
I don't think you made a mistake
Either the requested file is missing, or it can't be used by your computer. First check if the file is present. If not, google for it.
If it is present, your computer can't use it for some reason. Are you on a 64-bit OS? If you're on Vista/7: did you open the cmd promt as admin?
Yeah, nothing wrong, it's just that the API library is missing.
Download it from the attachment here, and put it in the "tools" folder, then try again.
Edit: As you can see it's in an archive, since dll attachment is not enabled here, so extract the file from it.

[Q] Desire doesnt recognize SD card

in settings/sd card&phone storage, i can see SD card
Total space
Unavailable
Available space
Unavailable
Mount SD card
Insert an SD card for mounting
Erase SD card
Erases all date on the phone's SD card, such as music and photos
The last two items (Mount SD card and Erase SD card) are grayed out.
Have formatted the card several times to fat32 through computer, where it works, using a memory card reader. But for example, the music widget doesnt say "please insert sd card", instead "no music found...." and when i go to the application then it says insert sd card, but not the widget. Also LeeDROID POST screen when vbooting states: "Detecting phone storage:microSD"
Has any1 had similar problem? Is there something i can try or is the card irreversably corrupted?
Try to use recovery from my signature, and repartition it. (using recovery)
can´t flash it. only oneclick method would be possible, but your intructions there are confusing start runme.cmd what does that mean?
It's in the .zip file, double click it...
when i click on the .img file, powerarchiver opens. and the recovery is still the same
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=661320&stc=1&d=1311252283
Download and extract on your pc to flash while your phone is fully booted (not in recovery).
usb debugging must be on (settings/applications/development)
unzip the file
If you are on Windows: start runme.cmd // Unixfreaks start runme.sh
finished
adb server is out of date, it says. then goes into a loop
seems like i downloaded something else earlier.
It doesnt find some data/local/tmp/flash_image etc files. Plus it always complaints that adb server is out of date
I'm out of ideas sorry.

Make sure you installed android sdk correctly:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK
Then turn off your phone and start it with pressed back button.
Open cmd and navigate to your android sdk folder.
Connect your phone to your computer.
In cmd enter:
Code:
fastboot devices
to make sort fastboot recognizes your phone.
If so, enter
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
Now your sd card should be recognized again.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
Have tried it several times. fastboot devices shows my device, but the command afterwardsgives me an bootloader command error
Amphor, why did you start a new thread on this same issue? I've given you 3 fixes for your problem...
The problem turned out to be something different from why started the first thread? Didn't it?
Does your PC see your card??
How did you fix your 1st problem btw?
Because i see your still getting bootloader errors ... the same errors you were getting in your last thread!?
The errors are the same but the problem is slighlty more accurate, i feel.
Computer recognizes the card both through card reader and through recovery "Mount USB storage"
Something problem with Android, because i tried it into an old LG with LG's own operating system and there i could view the contents of the card, for example. I had nothing on the card at that time so i couldn't test music playing, for example
Formatted i n FAT32 and i believe it's the only option

Tried to flash kernel now cannot mount SD Card

The phone was rooted with unrevoked3 and It was S-off. I downloaded Kernel Manager and tried to flash 2.6.35.13-gingertiny-v2-111920112.zip. Well, something went wrong. It gave the 5 vibs on reboot. I tried to follow the instructions at pvillecomp's page, but I am stuck on fastboot part, it won't mount the sd card. It did turn on while I had it plugged to the computer, which is Linux Mint, and it looks as though it did a factory reset. I am at a loss on what to do, Oh yeah, in the boot menu, it is S-ON now. Any ideas on how I can get it to mount the sd card? Thanks in advance.
Okay, I have been reading a lot, and it looks like I can't do "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" while the phone is S-ON to mount either external card or internal storage. The phone works, just no SD Card or Internal phone storage, it says Phone memory "total space: 748 MB, and Available space: 659 MB". The SD card and internal storage say "Unavailable". So, basically I have a "half-bricked" phone. This really sucks. And since I don't know how exactly it happened, I don't know how to avoid it next time.
Give this a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110865
Thanks Jack, that is one of the threads I already looked at, I can get it booted but I can't use fastboot because of S-On.
Okay, I didn't read ALL of that thread, seems that you don't need S-Off to do this, all I need is z4 root, but when I tried to download it from the web with the android browser it said I need to mount the SD card to download. How can I download the apk without the SD card mounted?
Did you you fix the SD Card issue first by doing this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
I have tried this but this part...
"SD Card Fix
Press & hold vol down and power on the phone
Select fastboot by pressing the power button
ADB commands
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot
That should fix your SD card not being detected."
...doesn't work, when I do the "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" it says "waiting for device" and stays there, maybe my linux isn't set-up with the adk correctly?
After messing with the phone some, I discovered that I still have root access and clockwork is still there, it did not do a factory reset, but I cannot get it to mount the internal or external sd. To get the phone to turn on I have to pull/replace battery, power+vol-, then go into fastboot, plug in the usb, then choose reboot, the phone will then boot up without the 5 vibes. The phone works as a phone, but that's about it. Anyone have any ideas?
There seems to be nothing I can do to get this phone working right again. I was able to mount the external sd and flash the PB31IMG for froyo, it appeared to work, but still the 5 vibes, and now I can't even boot up with the usb cable attached like before, I think it's dead. I found a used dinc on ebay and bought it. I'll keep messing with the old one but at my level I don't know if I can resurrect it.

SD card won't mount

Running ICS and my SD card won't mount anymore it happened during normal operation tried to fix through fastboot still no luck can't be seen in hboot or in recovery and doesn't show up in ICS any ideas on what could have caused it after looking I'm leaning towards hardware
sorry but i don't have a fast answer. However you should check the troubleshooting guide maybe you can find something.

Yeah I've tried the SD card stuff from there was hoping for a way to test the slot through fast boot I've tried another card no luck
right ive given up as no fastboot commands will let the device see the sd card ive gone and ordered a new sim/sd card flex card and am wondering if anyone has a guide on how to replace it or similar
right so ive changed the micro sd / sim flex cable same issue the sd card did randomly mount itself the other day but stopped not long after the sd card is working fine still in pc and doesnt matter how i format it doesnt mount in the phone other sd cards ive also tried didnt mount any ideas what could be the problem?
Which fastboot command(s) did you try / use?
Did I read that right you can read the card in CPU or card reader? I had this same issue before I rooted and was running stock happened shortley after I purchased phone it turned out that there was something wrong with the card put in different card and voila it worked. I inquired with the carrier and they couldn't give me an answer as to why it happened or what. Hopefully this provides some help

nope no luck when reinstalling stock guess its a motherboard fault and i cant be bothered to replace that so thanks for the help learned a few things
Try this
I had very simpular problem many times. Try this:
Boot into recovery, select advanced options, mount USB. Connect to pc, till you see the drive come up on your computer. May take a few times plugging in, back out of mount. You can verify it working in recovery, I just go into "install zip from sd" and see if there are files/folders. Unplug, then select to restart device.
Has worked for me a couple times, I have been doing a thousand other methods in the last 6 months. Some worked some didn't, this one has been the easiest and best results. Hope it works for you.
